Cheap and cheerful standard pub grub.

It’s my local pub but don’t go there often enough. Whereas you get what you pay for, the Christmas lunch was good value and drinks were affordable. When I do go there what makes it stand out compared to other places in Gloucester is that the service is always friendly and genuine and this is all I want when I got out to spend money. 6/5.

Enjoyed a 3 course Xmas dinner at the Hare and Hounds which I've never visited before. The food was great value. I had brie bites, turkey dinner and after dinner mint cheesecake. The two lads serving up the food and drinks were very cheerful and helpful.

Booked a pre Xmas lunch, the table preparation was very good well decorated, the food was served hot and tasted very good. The staff were attentive friendly and professional. The cost was competitive and well worth the money. We will definitely book again next year. A lovely seasonal meal.

We had our run group Christmas meal last night in the Hare and Hounds. We had the most amazing time. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. The meal was lovely; it was hot and came out efficiently and quickly. Thank you so much. We will see you soon.

We had a lovely Christmas meal last night at this pub, such a reasonable price and actually worth much more. There were eight of us, we tried lots of different things and we were all more than happy with our choices. Rhys did the pub proud with his excellent service. It’s such a friendly pub, I always feel at home here. We ate here last Christmas too, and will continue to do so Thank you so much for a great evening ❤️

We had an amazing Christmas meal here. Great service and excellent food, plenty to choose from, pre book for the Christmas menu. The daily menu is very good too. We always have a good time here, such a friendly pub ❤️

I booked a table for three on the website on Friday , but on Saturday,we learned that one person could not join us, Today Sunday 26/10/24 we were due to visit this pub at 1pm for lunch, however, at the last moment another person joined us and brought a VERY large dog, I phoned just before we left to travel to the pub , and asked if we could change from the dining room to the bar , as we were bringing a dog, The lady on the phone was VeRY helpful, and said she would change the booking for us, We arrived and were shown to table 18, in the bar, a perfect table for us as it was in the corner by the window, so the dog had plenty of room, We orderd food and drinks, and before the food arrived, a bowl of water was brought to us for the dog, The food arrived quickly, and was very nice and very reasonably priced, Later as we had finished, a kind lady brought some sausages over for the dog to eat, I have often eaten at this pub and NEVER been disappointed

We were there to eat lunch. Fish and chips were good. So when we are doing the next visit to Cheltenham we would come back.

Amazing food at very reasonable prices. As a table of four we had the lasagne, Mac and cheese, steak pie and scampi followed by jam and coconut sponge and custard and apple crumble. The best meal we have had all holiday. The seating are is a bit tired and in need of renovation but the bar itself was clean and well organised used. Staff were also very friendly. Highly recommend

I lived nearby over 40yrs ago. Did visit the Church Cemetary opposite about 2yrs ago. To take Flowers. (PS: They didn't offer me anything to eat or drink either).

Affordable menu options and deals on most days aswell.

We come here regularly and are always served with a smile by the female behind the bar - Rhiannon. She’s very friendly and always makes the effort to chat!

Tried this establishment for the 1st with my friend was greeted by a friendly lady behind the bar but the glasses were dirty, the chair upholstery was so dirty with stains and the interior looks so tired! Sadly wouldn't return.

We went for an afternoon drink as passing on approach to the bar we served by a very friendly member of staff who quickly served us what we had ordered, Upon sitting down choosing the right seat which didn't have stains all over them ,I then noticed my glass was not clean and had dirty marks all around and upon having sip it became clear when it had froth inside this glass had not been washed in hot soapy water upon my friend also pointing out their glass was the same . I know people are trying to cut utility bills down and feel sorry for publicans trying to make ends meat ,but surely not washing glasses properly us not the way to go ,we didn't finish the drinks and left ,I'm writing this review as I've had a similar thing happen in another pub not in this area ,and having been admitted to hospital through this issue ,I'm ultra aware when out looking at the vessels being given when out in restaurants and public houses

Were passing on the the off chance and thought we would pop in. We ordered two burgers and drinks. The burgers were outstanding and throughly enjoyed by myself and my friend. The staff were very friendly and we were made to feel welcome. We stayed for extra drinks and a wonderful pudding for myself. Would definitely visit again.

We chose this pub because it advertises Pet Friendly and Family Friendly, but this is not true. We were a large party of 6 adults, 4 teenagers and 4 younger children plus one small dog. The party split in two with 2 adults and the younger children sitting separately from the rest of us. After taking our order we were advised that the beer we had bought the 16-year-olds could not be consumed with the meal due to Green King's policy, although the law states otherwise! We were not shown this policy. Later on, the woman who appeared to be the glass collector, very rudely told us that the dog was not allowed but that we could all move to the bar. However, the teenagers were not allowed in the bar area! The barmaid joined her and stood there with her arms crossed in a very hostile way. Neither showed any customer service skills or manners whatsoever. In the end, one of our party (who was also registered disabled) was forced to eat outside with the dog. Shocking! During the meal, the glass collector returned and accused us of "allowing your children to run riot in my pub". She was referring to the younger children with the separate party. They were not running riot at all. Again, no customer service or manners. The food splatters on the walls were off-putting, the whole place needs a good clean up and some of the staff need to be trained in customer service. Green King is not well represented by this establishment! The food was ok and the guy who served us was friendly enough but overall, this was not a good experience!

Nothing was too much trouble, ordered the two gammon steaks with two fried eggs with salad instead of chips. The Gammon was delicious and will definitely order again. Well done.

Walked in and immediately walked out again. Tables were all dirty with food all over the floor. Made a booking for 4 but tried to seat us on a table for 2.

8 of us came for monthly lunch meal out and we were all throughly pleased with the food and service we had and hope to make a return vist soon

Not impressed by the service at all. We waited to be seated and were only approached when we stood in a ‘specific’ spot after being moaned at by bar staff. When ordering, three members of staff were behind the bar, all acknowledging me standing there but was only served after I scoffed in disbelief that nobody would take my order. The food was good for the price, peas were not cooked and there was significant oil on top of the eggs - if you are looking for ‘cheap and cheerful’ then sure this place works but I wouldn’t recommend it due to the lack of service and long wait time.

Go to this Green King on a regular basis. Several friends and I have lunch. The food is very good and always hot, and the service is friendly and quick . I would definitely recommend this place

Excellent value for money, good pub food and a warm welcome. Easy parking.

Treated my wife to Sunday lunch. Absolutely fantastic value. Roast turkey and beef lunches were delicious with plentiful vegetables and heaps of tasty gravy. Two meals and two drinks for £14 and super service as well. Exceptional! Highly recommended.

The hare n hounds is really good they got some very good deals and very respectful staff members and the food is nice and there’s loads children can eat and it’s just different ranges. It’s good for a birthday meal and stuff like that. Very good I do reccomend.

As part of the Greene King chain, you know what you're getting here. The food is great quality for the price point and we have no complaints at all. The build your own burger menu item is an absolute steal! The service was good, staff were helpful and the food was brought out quickly, piping hot. Dogs are only allowed outside in the beer garden, but there are generous amounts of tables and umbrellas available.

Food very good price( promo night on Weds) cheap drinks which is a bonus! Be advised......book as it gets very busy! Even though a 45min plus wait for food as they had a staff member go sick, The Chef of one did a cracking job! 👏 Plus the Bar Team done a thorough job in explaining the delay,but that didn't put me off my dining experience... they deserve praise as well! GreeneKing need to have more community sports bars like These as its bodes well for everyone! 😀

Pub could do with a Refurbishment but service is First Class !!! Greene King IPA £2.50 a pint….. and what a Fantastic Beer 🍺 it is !!! Definitely worth a visit without fail. 👍👍

Limited menu but very good quality. Some interesting choice of cask ales. Good sign for the food : long waiting time despite a lot of working hands and lot of locals. Obviously the locals do like their local!

At 2 o'clock on a Tuesday afternoon you get a good idea how good a pub is. The lunchtime rush had passed but the staff were as attentive as you could wish without being in your face. We pushed our luck and chose to sit at at Table 13. it was clean and dry, as were the tables around us, no debris from the earlier visitors. Tracey took our order for three Hunter's Chicken which came promptly and was ridiculously tasty. Mine got washed down with the well kept Old Speckled Hen ale, my guests enjoyed the Merlot and Chardonnay. A lovely lunch in bright surroundings for little more than £30 all in! It would be daft not to go back.

Been coming here regularly for a few years with my family. I can honestly say we’ve never had a bad meal here , always so delicious , I thought it’s about time I wrote a review as we are regular visitors , great choice on the menus and very reasonably priced. And staff are always welcoming and friendly , food is always quick coming from the kitchen too .

We spent a great Sunday afternoon watching the EPL. Friendly service and had a nice lunch. Would recommend for a pleasant afternoon.

Faultless steak plus extras, speckled hen beer gorgeous. My wife had a similar meal which again was remarkable. Considering how very busy the pub was the service was friendly and genuinely cared that we enjoyed our stay. The fact that the pub was so busy no doubt reflects how the service is appreciated. Will will be back!

The food is always lovely and excellent value for money. The staff are most friendly and it is a very handy place for a dinner after work or when you got the grandkids they get well treated with a ice cream that they love

Good place to watch sport. Range of beers and drinks are kept well. Service has always been friendly and efficient on my visits. Food not bad and well priced. Sometimes can be a bit loud for me, but that's something a lot of customers like. My only gripe is that tables can be left unwiped for a while longer than I think acceptable (not the only pub which has this issue).

Went for a family meal on a weekday evening before an event in the area. Service was efficient and the food arrived quickly. Really good value for money and definitely one to come back to if we are in the area again.

We were celebrating a brthday and meeting family from various places up to 100 miles away .There were 11 of us ranging in age from 75 to 9 and a variety of menu choices. The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb and the service excellent. We would certainly come again and can highly recommend the venue for avisit.

Three of us have had a lovely evening tonight. We chose the festive menu for our get together, it was a pre booked & pre ordered food. Lovely starters of prawn cocktail & chicken strips, followed by roast turkey with all the trimmings and then Christmas pudding & chocolate fudge cake. The staff are amazing and attentive, they were very busy too. An excellent visit, just what we’ve come to expect from Sue & her team. ❤️

Swearing, shouting and all round just bad atmosphear. For some reason you cant stand at the bar and everyone books table so you have less choice of where to sit. Would not recommend.

My friends and i have just had a Xmas lunch. prawn cocktail to start, lots of prawns. Turkey with all the trimmings, excellent value for money. have not had a bad meal yet. congratulations to the chef.

Superb meal. We selected the 8oz rump steaks. Both done exactly as requested. Superb meal and very friendly and accomodating staff. Meal a bargain with 20% discount voucher. Lovely warm and cosy seating area. Many thanks!! 👍🏻

Food is hit and miss. Things vary depending on the day. For example one day the chips were soggy and awful. Another time they were crisp and fluffy. Staff were helpful but didn't seem keen. In need of a makeover.

What a lovely friendly pub and restaurant. The staff are SO friendly and smiling, and the food is always top quality and served piping hot with generous portions. Rhys, Becky, Sue and Dean were our staff helpers today, and each one of them was super friendly. A real gem!

This must be the cheapest venue for seniors to eat in Gloucestershire. A great choice for the money, two courses for £5.49, three courses £6.49. Not huge portions but you wouldn’t expect it for the price, sufficient for most seniors though. Good quality food, well cooked and tasty, exceptional value.

Yesterday Sue and her team hosted our wedding reception and evening entertainment. The attention to detail was absolutely outstanding. The food was out of this world. Sue and her team worked tirelessly to ensure it was a day my wife and I will never forget....
