Booked a table for 2, but changed this various times as the birthday celebrations grew. This was no problem for the landlord & landlady. Service was great and the food was delicious. 2 of us stayed the night. Rooms clean and super-king size bed comfortable. Very enjoyable experience and would definitely go back. Felt very welcome. 5 *****

We visited the Harrow inn on a recommendation from our son and we were not disappointment. We had a delicious Sunday lunch that was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious! The fresh vegetables were served separately and there was plenty of it. One of the best I’ve had out in a very long time. The price was really reasonable and we were also impressed with the price of drinks. We sat in the restaurant area and all the staff were really friendly and the service was fast. The place has a really nice, friendly, country pub atmosphere and we would highly recommend you visit. We will definitely be returning soon!

Went along for the Wednesday night curry buffet. 3 starters, one of which veggie, 3 mains again one was veggie, poppodums, nanns, rice & pickles. All you could eat for £15.00. Apparently the dishes change every week. This week we were treated to melt in the mouth chicken pokoras, a really smoot mildly spiced Buttered Chicken, a rather warm mixed veg curry and a Railway Lamb curry a little warmer still. Several visits were made by all to sample all of the goodies available. Thanks must go to the cheffing team of owner Sanjay who with Bruno delivered the repast and to Jenny for her attentive bar and table service. We will certainly be returning.

Amazing place, both ambiance, food and staff. We stopped here in our motorhome. The staff were so lovely. We had a curry on the first night which was cooked by Sanjay, you can pick your strength of heat. Claire and Andy were the perfect managers. We ate again on Saturday night and I had Parmesan chicken with root veg whilst Rex had sausage and mash. Absolutely gorgeous food. Rex asked for a couple of slices of bread to mop up his gravy, no trouble at all. We will definitely return and thank you,

Took my family here, after hearing good things about the food & chef at this place.. but more importantly the variety of food on offer so would carter for me & my family.. and the place didn’t disappoint one bit.. now I can understand what the hype is actually about.. everything that was placed on our table was cooked and prepared with care.. whilst everything tasted amazing, the curry that one of my children had was amazing… !!!! When looking online for the menu I did see the harrow inn do a curry night, one day in the week,so you can sample different types of curry.. this, I have got to attend.. because if what we had today was anything to go by.. it’s got to be amazing.. My steak was mouth watering and cooked to perfection.. while the burger we had ( not might sort of meal) is something I will also try next time I’m here due to how tasty that look too.. I understand it’s under new management and with food like this coming out the kitchen can only assume they will be there for a while ! keep this standard and you can’t fail 👌 The staff were very welcoming and made me and my family feel very welcome.. keep up the good work, will see you agin next time I’m passing your village, for sure

A good range of starters and desserts and 3 real ales on. Highly recommended.

We had starters, mains and desserts all of which were very enjoyable along with drinks. Having a sweet tooth I loved my pear and blackberry crumble..delicious. Our waitress was really friendly and provided a very nice service. Its really sad to see how much hospitality is suffering in the current climate. Oh dear, this didn't go well at all. I had high expectations given the previous reviews. I used to eat here but hadn't been for years due to changes in ownership. Our starters were pleasant (I had "cheese chunks" and only had 2, which was a little disappointing, whilst my friend had fried shrimp and had about 6). Her main was the duck breast, and I had steak. This was when it started to go wrong! The food was lukewarm (tepid, even). I didn't feel inclined to complain as it just lovely to be out with my friend. When I enquired about her duck, she said it was a very strange texture, so I tried it ... it was like eating mushy pate. It had no substance or solidity at all. At this point I had been eating around the outside of my steak, saving the middle bit as this is my favourite. Unfortunately, when I got to it, I found that it, too, was mushy. The waitress had told us when I ordered medium rare that it was not available as the steak was put in a "water bath" beforehand to make it tender and so medium was the only option. I believe that she was referring to "sous vide", and when meat is overcooked by this method, it does become mushy. The waiter did relay our comments to the chef, and we did find that the charges for the meat had been removed from the bill. We still paid for our two potato side dishes which we hadn't eaten because there hadn't been anything to accompany them, but never mind. We tried to order coffee - the waiter didn't know if they served decaf (turns out they do). I asked for a floater coffee but he didn't know what that was - so I said that if they didn't do floater coffee, I would just have a coffee with cream. He came back to say that they don't have cream. I asked for Earl Grey tea, which they do have. I was then served Breakfast tea. They did then change it for Earl Grey. In the end, my friend and I had an enjoyable evening out, and laughed at the events of the evening. But, to be honest, I think it is highly unlikely we will go back because part of the pleasure of a meal out is to actually eat and enjoy the food, which didn't happen on this occasion.

We had another excellent meal with generous portions in The Harrow in Wanborough last night. There was plenty of choice on the menu with great value for money and it really makes a difference when the landlord is also the chef and has a passion for food. I had a Porterhouse steak which was cooked perfectly and was so tasty, followed by a Harrow Mess, whilst my wife thoroughly enjoyed her Cajun chicken burger with Tornado fries followed by ice cream with homemade cookies. All absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and quick and all of the staff were friendly and chatty. There was a lovely atmosphere and we were made to feel so welcome. The couple who took over the running of this pub just before the pandemic struck done a great job at reviving this charming historic village pub, particularly in these challenging times, and it is well worth a visit.

I have been visiting this pub for most of my life and have therefore seen many different landlords/landladies come and go. The couple currently running this gorgeous country pub have been there since the beginning of the year but the changes and improvements they have made in a short period of time, and in the face of the Covid lockdown, have been outstanding. I visited yesterday evening with friends and it was our first meal there since the new couple took over. As I said, they have made many subtle changes which add up to a wonderful ambience which is equally matched by the delicious food that was served. Vicky, our server for the evening was an absolute delight, smiling, charming and attentive, returning to our table at exactly the right moments to check if we were happy with our meals (we most definitely were) or to replenish empty glasses. The landlady and landlord (who is also the chef) also appeared at intervals with a friendly greeting and to ensure everything was running smoothly. These folks definitely lead from the front. I opted for the beer battered cod with a side order of chips, which is kind of my go to meal. I have to say it was the best I have ever tasted. The batter was cooked to perfection as were the chips and peas. My more adventurous companions chose different items from the menu, a hard job because there are so many wonderful sounding dishes, and they were equally as enthralled with their choices of the Cajun chicken burger and the haloumi burger.. Next time I will definitely be stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring the other wonderful dishes on offer.Oh i forgot to mention the drinks. There are four other pubs near by, but by far the landlord at The Harrow keeps the best pint in the village and there is always an interesting selection of real ales, keg beers, lager or cider to choose from. If your taste is for wine, gin or whisky you will not be disappointed either as they have an amazingly eclectic selection on display behind the bar. If you are visiting the area or live locally I can throughly recommend you visit this lovely traditional pub.

The Harrow Inn in Wanborough is one of those pubs that has been around for years but has seen plenty of landlords come and go. The new landlords have certainly made their mark with nearly every part of “front of house” updated and returned to what the Harrow does best - a country village pub. That said, the food is anything but pub grub. An extensive menu is mirrored by quality and service. My wife, son and I were early eaters so the upper bar was quiet. Service was friendly and efficient. Drinks orders were quickly taken whilst we looked over the menu. It is always a good sign when you struggle to select between a range of dishes which jump off the page at you!The wife and I had steak whilst our son had the fish and chips. Portion sizes were good whilst the quality was excellent - the steaks wouldn’t have been out of place in a London 5 star steakhouse. We had no room for desert although the double chocolate brownies seriously challenged our resolve!Considering the size and quality of the dishes, the bill was more than reasonable. More than in a typical pub? Perhaps, but you get what you pay for.Overall, a great evening and we’re looking forward to our next visit already. Definitely one to recommend.

My wife treated me to a birthday meal yesterday in the Harrow. This long established pub has recently changed management, their youthful staff were very attentive and eager to please. My wife ordered Jerk Slow Cooked Pork Belly (£10) while I chose Beer Battered Cod (£10) from the extensive main's menu, both of our dishes were superb but neither of us could do justice to the generous proportions. We didn't realize at time of ordering that there was an exact identical menu available for "Smaller Appetites at £6 each. Their dessert menu selection is quite small but we doubt many diners would have room for puddings after clearing their plates. The Harrow has a nice cozy atmosphere which we highly recommend.

We had not been to this pub in a long time but as there was a family birthday we decided to give it a go, we all ordered our food and it came in good time, i had ordered the liver and bacon, sadly it was too fatty and i could not eat it, i mentioned this to the manager and she was very good and apologised and asked if i would like somthing eles instead which i did , this was brought out as quickly as possible as by now the rest of our party were almost finished , they did not charge us for the meal and we were satisfied that it had been done with NO fuss and a sincere apology . We did however check our bill just to make sure and we found a few mistakes which we brought to there attention and this too was sorted without any fuss, thank you, we hope to go back again soon.

We were really impressed to start with, the manager was able to fit us in last minute on a Saturday evening, the decor was nice and the fireplace was great! We even met the really cute pub Labrador puppy! Before ordering we asked the waitress (who did seem very polite and nice) whether the Camembert was vegetarian. My partner is a strict veggie and a lot of cheeses aren’t vegetarian. The waitress asked the chef and came back to us with the reply of ‘I’m really confused but the chef just said it was from cows....’ this was a bit awkward and did make us both feel a bit embarrassed and like the chef was taking the mick... I’m sure this wasn’t the case but it did make us feel a bit uncomfortable. We ordered different starters, and were looking forward to them until the bread board arrived. This was was supposed to come with oil and balsamic vinegar but just arrived as bread and butter. We asked for the oils/vinegar but the waitress said they ran out. I was a bit annoyed we weren’t told this beforehand..... we wouldn’t have ordered any starters had we known this. The mains were really nice and they knocked £2 off the receipt for the lack of oil/balsamic but really I don’t think we should have been charged for that starter. We wouldn’t have ordered it if we’d known. Bit of an odd one, friendly staff but we left feeling a bit awkward.Perhaps it was a one off.

We popped in here after the Cally Arms was full. A lovely fire greeted us, which was a welcome treat in a dank day. The menu was concise, with hearty options to choose from. All of it appeared to be homemade, the scotch egg and garlic bread we had to start certainly were, as were the fish cakes for main. We booked Sunday lunch at the Harrow based on the high tripadvisor scores. Maybe they were having a bad day, but we found the food somewhat less than average quality. My 'roast' beef was a massive slab of meat which appeared cooked on both sides, but rare in the middle. I fail to see how this could have come from a slow roasted joint. I think it was cooked to order like a steak. My wife's pork was tender, but the skin around it was soft, floppy and inedible, not removed and crisped up? My horseradish was homemade and good, but the apple source straight out of a jar! The roast potatoes were anaemic and probably boiled then deep fried. We didn't bother with dessert.

Seats a little uncomfortable and clearly a well used bar area. Wasn't sure what to expect, menu really varied and sounds unexpected. Decided on the deli board and pork tenderloin main which came with a ginger sauce. Was really tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. Slightly odd accompaniments, a sort of veg platter for all mains - regardless. All edible but not necessarily matched to ALL the mains. Kids menu really good value and varied also. Called in for lunch en route to the motorway. A lovely old traditional pub with beams, thatched roof and an assortment of rooms/seating areas to choose from. We both had roast beef, served pink (you can usually expect a 'good do' if they ask you how you want your beef to be served) and we were not disappointed. The portions were huge, there were about 6 different types of vegetables, the Yorkshire Pudding was done properly and the horseradish sauce was made from fresh grated horseradish, not out of a jar. Service was efficient and the staff were really friendly. The only downside was that I had to share my beef with a very imploring 19 year old puss cat, who could have charmed the birds from the trees.....

We took a group of friends from out of town here for dinner and had one of the worst meals ever. We were left to find our own menus, go to the bar for our own drinks and find a waiter- and it wasn't even busy. The majority of the food was very badly cooked; tough and grisly steaks with hot plates but luke-warm food and the portions were far too small - and all at over-inflated prices more akin to good restaurants. Ate here recently with extended family and had heard good reviews about the new owners. This is a lovely traditional pub with a very rustic feel to it, no frills to the decor. As such, it feels a little cold and unwelcoming compared to other local establishments that have invested in their interiors a little more. If you are a traditionalist however, you will much prefer that it has been left alone - there aren't that many 'old school' pubs about these days. Food-wise, the menu offers a reasonable choice and the quality of the food was excellent, between us we ate burgers, fish and chips, bubble and squeak and the chicken pie. All beautifully fresh and well cooked. We had two slight grumbles though - for the prices, the portions were rather small ( apart from the pie) and we had two 'big lads' in our party who left disappointed and needing a snack later on! Secondly, some menu options were offered on boards not plates when they didn't need to be; burgers serve well on a board but I question the logic of serving fish and chips in this way. Slightly petty of me perhaps some but the small portions and trendy boards don't quite match the rustic, traditional atmosphere of the pub. Not necessarily a bad thing as the food is very good, but worth a mention.....

We have been visiting the Harrow for years now and the food is the best it has ever been. The staff are so friendly and you never feel anything but relaxed and comfortable. They do a fantastic mushroom burger, as we are vegetarians it's so refreshing to get a decent veggie option and they also make a great Cappaccino.

Best Vegetarian burger (mushroom) ever, somebody has really thought this one out, gone to trouble to produce of such a tasty dish, this is the other extreme to what most vegetarians are offered, and put up with sadly (why) a deep fried beany tasteless mush wedged between an anaemic bap.

Went with my family (and their dog!) for a relaxed meal and was not disappointed at all. Food was absolutely delicious and love that they make their own artisan breads too. Service impeccable and so friendly. This is my third time here and each time it's been top class. In winter they have a lovely fire which contributes to a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Well done Vicky you're doing an amazing job!

We have been frequenting The Harrow for many years and have seen owners come and go. The current owners would have to be the best yet. Food is fantastic and the ales are always top quality. Great local vibe and welcoming for families and dogs.

We live in the village but this was our first visit for food. It was Sunday so my wife decided to go for the Roast Beef and my son the Burger, I had the Brisket. I know good food as i work in the industry and the Brisket was top drawer food..taste, quantity, and atmosphere in one. Vicki is always friendly as are the staff...great place...don't miss it

I booked a table for 10 for my mums 60th on Saturday 28th March. We was lucky enough to have the whole restaurant to ourselves and the open fire :) we all had a good night celebrating. The harrow Inn also caters for gluten free customers and i would recommend the gf fish & chips. My finace enjoyed his 10z rib eye steak cooked well but at a costly price of £23! The staff were friendly and let us decorate the table and put up banners. We even had fountain candles in our cupcakes! The Harrow Inn is a gorgeous county pub with beams, open fires, romantic setting and homemade baked bread! I would reccommend.

We took some friends who were visiting us to this pleasant country pub expecting a nice lunch. After a long wait for a plate of bread and olives we were asked if we would like a bit of time before our main course. It was another very long wait before our food finally arrived. The Ploughman's was sparse with watery homemade chutney a tiny slice of cheese, apple, gerkin, lettice, ham and bread no butter. The hake meal was miniscule and the dumpling and beef meal although tasty was small, no potato and the leek and carrots were chopped so small they were hardly noticed. Thank goodness we ordered some chips and there was a dish of veg which saved the meal. I was so disappointed with the vegetarian choice. I would not recommend this.

We have made this our local as we love the atmosphere, the great food and great beer. We have visited several times since August 2014 and we have never been disappointed with the quality and standard of food and service. The staff are very friendly, very welcoming and what is most important for us is that the pub is dog friendly in the main bar so we can take our beloved Border Terrier Charlie with us when we visit. There is another restaurant that you can use, very nicely laid out, The main bar has a lovely inglenook fireplace which is lit during the colder months and there is plenty of seating to enjoy a meal or just a beer. There is a good selection real ales on tap and of course the usual lagers. Accommodation is available if you wanted to stay a couple of nights and take in the sights and sounds of rural Wiltshire, I thoroughly recommend this lovely inn,

I now eat here regularly and find the food consistently good. There is always a warm welcome from the landlady, who keeps the best beer in the area. Trust me, I've tried all five local pubs! If you're a CAMRA member you will love the Timothy Taylor Landlord (my personal favourite), Gem and Otter. Sunday lunch on 25 January 2014 was simply superb. I had beef topped by a huge Yorkshire pudding, cooked to real Yorkshire perfection (I used to live there) with a plate of perfect veg. My son had fish and chips. He was surprised when it came on a wooden platter but soon got used to it. He loved the mushy peas and potatoe wedge chips (I nicked a couple - delicious). Despite the place being very full the service was fast and very friendly. This is a very special establishment in my view.

We booked a table, no need, and it was nicely laid out, staff were welcoming and friendly, even supplied a pair of glasses to read menu. The four of us ordered different food, I ordered sirloin steak with salad and chips, my husband had the burger with chips, friend ordered fish and chips and partner ordered the tiger prawn and leek. I had asked for my steak to be medium rare and to er on the rare if they were not sure, it came medium to well done and quite tasteless, I mentioned this to the waitress who seemed not in the least worried or interested. The Chips (and everyone of us agreed on this) were simply dreadful. ? recooked yesterday jacket potatoes or similar. The fish was lovely and the burger great. Tiger prawn and leak dish minimal to say the least , but good taste

My family and I decided to go out for a Sunday lunch. We usually go to the same place but thought we would be brave and venture to a new one. We live in Swindon and didn't want to drive too far so went for one of the villages. We ended up at The Harrow in Wanborough. There were 5 in the party including one 3 year old. The childrens menu was varied and included home made chicken nuggets! The little one had sausage, chips and beans. Three of us went for the pork with the last one selecting beef. The portions were large with roast potatoes which were crispy and fluffy, large Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy. The veggies came in a dish and consisted of carrots, cauliflower cheese, savoy cabbage, peas plus carrot/swede mash. The server informed us to give them a shout if we needed more veggies or gravy! Every vegetable was fresh and prepared perfectly. We did leave room for pudding which were also all home made even the ice cream! (all 7 flavours). One sticky toffee pudding and one sorbet plus ice cream for the little one. The atmosphere was spot on and the service was great. Just as we were leaving our little guest was presented with a lolly for eating all her dinner. We will be back!

What a choice of a place to celebrate my 70th. A family do of 24 people, we were welcomed with open arms. A small room was excellently prepared for us so we could sit easily together. The room has a small bar so we could order drinks with ease. The menu has a superb list of dishes.

We visited the Harrow on 2nd January for a belated New Year celebration with friends and having visited twice before for lunches we were eager to try an evening visit. On arrival we were shown to our table by the friendly staff and settled in for the evening. At this point I feel it prudent to point out that our table for the evening saw the night out with no pressure to rush despite the Inn being pleasantly busy. We all ate a selection of starters and main courses with 3 out of four taking on a desert as well (I let the side down here as I was pleasingly full by the end of the main course). Locally sourced ingredients were used and prepared and presented in excellent fashion. The staff were very friendly and extremely passionate and knowledgeable about each dish on the menu. The atmosphere was nice and the In felt like a home from home.

This was the first time I've visited The Harrow and unfortunately it will be my last. I had family staying with me over the festive period and decided to take them out for dinner. I ordered the fish and chips. Sorry to say, but couldn't eat it. It was served on a chopping board, which in itself is off putting. The cod was very greasy, which makes me think the fryer wasn't hot enough. The batter very anaemic. The mushy peas inedible. This main course cost around £11. I would definitely recommend finding an alternative in the area.

Visited here on 19th Dec 2014 - service was friendly, welcoming and the waitresses were bright and bubbly. We all started off with the artisan breads with olives, oil/balsamic vinger dip, these were tasty. I ordered the gammon, egg and hand cut chips, was very much looking forward to this, but I was disappointed.....My egg was burnt underneath, my gammon was over cooked as it was quite difficult to bite into and was dry, and my "hand cut chips" well they were extremely disappointing, basically they had boiled the potatoes and served them as chips, it is like someone almost forgot to fry them off or bake them in the oven. My mum had the steak, with mushrooms and a sauce, she said that her mushrooms were luke warm, and my Dad wasn't impressed either. So unfortunately, we will not be visiting here again.

Ihave eaten on more than a few occaisions in the past and enjoyed the food but tonight was a disaster. Most restaurants have double and even triple cooked chips The Harrow has brought this to a new level with half cooked chips, add to this burnt fried egg with dry overcooked gammon not a pleasant evening meal at all.

We had a lovely evening and meal at the Harrow Inn. The atmosphere was brilliant, a very welcoming and friendly traditional country pub. A good mix of locals and visitors and certainly no 'outsider' feeling at all. The food was amazing, all home made and outstanding quality, highly recommend the scotch eggs and piccalilli, best we've ever tasted. The home made burgers with bacon jam were perfect too. Most definitely worth a visit.

Called in here late on Sunday for lunch, so happy they were still serving food at 2pm. Staff very welcoming, small selection of beers and ales on offer. A number of tables had reservations on them but we were able to find a free table. My wife and I chose the roast beef as the waitress had said the beef is always rare, and our son chose the beef burger.
