Hope you have a healthy appetite the portions are generous. The freshly made steak pie was excellent filled with huge chunks of tender meat. The green lipped mussels were also excellent and in a beautiful garlic butter and leek sauce

We were on holiday in Hinderwell and decided to meet up with family and they recommended this pub. Food was all fine but the man behind the bar needs to brush up on his customer service. He was very rude and had a bad attitude. Very expensive for what you got. Won't we going back anytime soon. A lot of locals stood round the bar that won't move to let you pass. Such a shame as it's a lovely pub inside, just needs a new landlord or owner, the other staff were all fine and very friendly.

We called in for lunch following an earlier walk to Whitby and back, and we were so glad we did. As we had the Cockerpoo with us we called round the back to the beer garden as this was out of the breeze the sun was out. We were greeted with a external bar that served beers and took orders for food. (Madri on tap). Clean dog bowls were available for our four legged friends. Food was served in a timely manner by a polite waitress and could not be faulted. I opted for the delicious Cod goujon sandwich and my wife for a quirky 'pint pot' of scampi which see loved. We feel we've uncovered a gem of a place and will definitely visit again if in the area.

Food & service was excellent & staff very friendly. Restaurant area is upstairs. Dogs allowed in bar area where you can have a meal too. Our group ordered 6 different meals, all were 5 star. It's in an ideal spot opposite the beach with its own car park another plus point.

Came in on the off chance driving back from Whitby. Was very busy and thought we would have no chance of getting served. A young lady said if we would wait about 15 minutes something may come up upstairs. Within two minutes we were seated. My wife and daughter were very happy with their food but I was a little disappointed with mine. The chips I thought were overdone and the batter on the fish was quite mushy. Like I said though my wife and daughter thought it was the best food they had on our little trip so swings and roundabouts I suppose. The service we got was exceptional though.

Busy pub as we entered - thought no chance of getting a table for 4 adults & 2 kids. Spoke to a young lady waiting on who said there is a room upstairs - result. Table for 6 - sat down and ordered drinks. Brought within minutes. Decided to stay for lunch. Kids wanted egg sandwich - normally came with cress - no problem to make without cress - result 2. Granddaughter wanted skinny fries and baked beans not on the menu. Again no problem- result 3. Whitby crab sandwich ordered. 2 posh fish finger butties ordered. Son in law wanted cheese & ham sandwich, again not in the menu - no problem - result 4. It’s unusual to find a pub/restaurant so accommodating - you have a good set up here with brilliant staff. We are only here for a long weekend - but we will return next time we are in the area. Thank you to all at The Hart - you made our day. 😄😄💙👍💕💕 xx

Avoid at all costs unless you are local and male!! Went in to have dinner it was relatively busy but we managed to get a table. I went to the bar to order drinks. The bar man served every male at the bar including a group of 5 men, all who had arrived after me, he knew i was waiting as he was serving every male around me and totally ignored me. An elderly gentleman came to the bar after me and he also served him, he was paying with a card and the bar man snatched the card machine away before the poor man had chance to take his card out only to literally throw the card back at him! Still being ignored i decided to leave the pub without ever being acknowledged! Disgusting behaviour!

Very disappointed. My birthday treat, all the way from Sunderland. Came here 3 years ago, lovely welcome and food. Very different this time. Had to send our steaks back as very undercooked, only to have one of ours returned still undercooked. Spent over £100, absolutely disgraceful 😔

We were walking through Scarborough as part of our hike along the Cleveland Way and after walking past the Beach Huts in North, heading towards South Bay, we were on the lookout for somewhere to grab a quick meal. Everywhere seemed crazy busy, but luckily we found this place without a queue - possibly now I understand why no queue though as just wasn't great. My husband's small fish was huge! but he didn't enjoy so ate less than half. My battered sausage and chips was good/average quality, but the sausage was teeny! Still, we ate enough to fill our bellies so we could continue on our walk.

Average fish and chips. Only worth visiting for the vintage styling. Take away service with 10% added to sit in prices. Says freshly cooked to order, the wait said this the taste buds beg to differ. Good portion for chip butty however fish batter want very crisp and soggy at parts.

I can't understand some of the reviews on here. I think people should review things based on reality. This is not Starbucks, Costa or Greggs. It's not Pret, McDonalds or Burger King either. It's a facility within a charity aiming to bring alive an era before these massive organisations had taken over our society. Manned not by highly paid executives rolling out strategy to beat the competition but run on a shoestring by volunteers and a few paid employees who are providing memories for a public who remember station waiting rooms and buffet bars exactly like the Signals cafe. This NOT a commercial operation, it is part of the exhibit of the railway buffet bars of the 40'-60's when a certain Dr Beeching took an axe to the railways which provided links to towns an villages throughout the country. Review it in the context of it's situation. To the women who were on duty when my family of 5 adults and 2 children called, thanks for providing us with the food and drinks which I remember from mainline and local stations operating pre Beeching cuts. It let us pass an hour in the type of buffet which was commonplace in my young days. Also gave me an opportunity to educate my youngsters over the life I used to live in and brought much of what they had just experienced in the steam journey from Whitby. A thorough authentic experience in keeping with the North Yorkshire Railway objectives To other reviewers who were less than appreciative of the reconstruction of the rail experience pre 60's, I suggest you volunteer your time and skills to one of the thousands of charities in the U.K. who are doing their best to serve their local communities. It might just help you come to grips with life and appreciate the work others do to help their fellow human beings.
