The Highwayman Hotel in Cherwell

Disgustingly dirty, ensuite was filthy, floor built up with dirt in the corners, toilet seat heavily stained, shower screen not cleaned from previous guests, tile grouting heavily stained, bottom of door frame rotting. The room itself had an underlying unpleasant smell, paint peeling off the window sill, mould on the ceiling by the window, heavy dust and grime residue above the headboard. The manager was using the room next to us and had his TV blaring until 2am and I had to knock on the wall to get him to turn it off, so hence a sleepless night. Evening meal was substandard, just frozen peas and Brussels advertised as seasonal veg, the fried eggs at breakfast were rock hard, so.... They have a manager who can't manage, a cook who can't cook, and cleaners who can't clean. We had booked for 3 nights but left after just one night, and the owner didn't address these complaints at all, he wasn't bothered as they'd already been paid and we never got any money refunded. The manager did make an appearance at around 10-30 the morning we left, but appeared a bit hungover and not interested in us leaving at all. We have spent a few good times here, it's a shame that this wasn't one of them. We won't be going there again.

Nothing fancy but the rooms are ok and comfy, surrounded with fabulous nature and walking distance to Oxford airport

Lovely comfy stay ( in car park in camper van via #BritStops ) - very secure (goose on guard keeping people in order), nice canal walk before satisfying breakfast with very friendly staff

Very friendly, good price and dog friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and great central location. We loved the pies and canal walks.

It is not that pricey and so you should simply expect basic accommodation.

Great rooms, good shower, foods nice and price was great, nothing negative at all and for a bonus plenty of parking which is nice when you have a van. Recommend to anyone looking for a room

Music every Friday night. Friendly staff, good beer 🍺 Canalside seating with nice views.

Lovely room. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate kept stocked. Loved being near the canal. Didn’t eat here. Good location for Oxford, only a short bus ride away and for Blenheim Palace.

usual b& b fully booked so chose the highwayman instead & glad we did. very friendly staff, handy setting by the canal, safe car parking, fairly basic but big clean twin aspect room with fab shower & wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

Amicable staff and a lovely view. Everyone was quite attentive and hospitable. Music sometimes did travel through the walls, but I actually loved the vibes. Stayed in a deluxe double room. Would definitely stay again.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Appalling, absolutely no assistance, I rang the hotel and couldn't get hold of anyone on my way to warn them I'd be late, AND again when I arrived just after 9pm and it was all locked up and I left a voicemail. Nobody ever called me back. I missed calls from them because I was driving but they didn't leave a message AND why on earth wouldn't they just leave a message or send a text with instructions for a late check in? Basically it's like stealing money, and I think their attitude that they put it in the fine print and so they don't care says it all. They left me in the lurch without being able to stay there, but charged me anyway.

Pity for the cleanliness, I loved the place but got so disappointed by the mess that I've found... Nice Staff... Good prices.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting food is also amazing I went last night and had the steak and Stilton pie all home made and really testy even the veg was gorgeous highly recommend
