The Hunters in South Ribble

Our first ever visit even though we live in Penwortham. Very impressed although it was busy service was friendly and efficient and the food very tasty but a bit too much for Mum. Big shout out to Daryl who was really lovely. We will be back 😊

My husband and I visited this establishment on 25/01/2025 at tea time after being given a voucher for Christmas from my daughter . The carpark was full and we just managed to get a space. We entered the restaurant and waited a good 5 minutes before someone came to take our name . He showed us to our table and said we needed to order that bar. Once my husband and I had chosen what we were having he went to the bar and ordered our food and drinks. Within 5 minutes of ordering our starters came . The soup was very thick but my husband ate it anyway. I had Garlic Mushrooms , they didn't knock my socks off to be honest . Having eaten our starters the waiter who was was friendly enough took our plates away . A couple of minutes later our mains came. I had Lasagne and it came with a basket of chips, my husband had steak and ale pie with mash , carrots and parsnips and gravy. My Lasagne was so hot it burnt my tongue. It wad as tho it had been heated up in the microwave . It wasn't that nice either. My husbands pie wasn't cooked completely through properly and the steak was chewy and grissly . Also the mash was like it had been standing about keeping warm and the gravy tasted sweet. We didn't eat all our food as it wasn't fit to eat . We were done and dusted within 40 minutes . Both my husband and I were very disappointed in our meals . We were so looking forward to having a nice meal and a drink considering it was a Xmas present for us. I work as a chef in the hospital so I know what food should look and taste like. Your waiter/Waitress never came to ask how our food was or even asked if we needed any condiments with our meal. When the young lady came to take our plates away she noticed we hadn't eaten our food. She asked was everything OK and my husband replied no the pie didn't seem cooked properly and the gravy tasted sweet. Her reply back was il pass it on to the chef . And she walked away . We got up and paid . Our bill was over £60.00 which in my opinion was over priced . Wasn't worth the money and we felt it was very rushed . I wont be recommending this restaurant to any of my friends. Thanks Julie

First and last time I will visit here, raw burger and barely warm fries, return my meal waiter was embarrassed, offer refund or replacement meal, had a replacement as my husband and daughter were eating also, went with the chicken burger as replacement but couldn't eat that as was too fatty. Awful food for all of us really and will not be going back.

We enjoyed the food d atmosphere here. As a coeliac, vegan, it is nice to be catered for. Staff are always friendly. Prompt service. Would definitely recommend. The pub is dog friendly. Staff provided a dog bowl with refills of water.

Excellent pub and takeaway service. Food has been good in the restaurant. During the COVID 19 situation the delivery service and quality is excellent and highly recommended

Ryan the Manager was fantastic! We needed an open, airy space as our son was immune compromised having just undergone leukaemia treatment and stem cell transplant. We got the garden club area and Ryan and our waiter went above and beyond in ensuring it was a safe visit. The chef was also extra accommodating! It was the perfect setting to finally see extended family over Christmas and we all enjoyed a fantastic and safe meal!

As usual Fantastic! Impromptu lunch. Already booked for Sunday. Service is excellent and food quality amazing. You get what you pay for x

I promised not to write a review of last night (26/12/24) but i just wanted to get a few things off my chest. Been here loads of times and always been great, food lovely and service and ambience superb. Yesterday was a nightmare. Booked a table for 6 and got sat in the Alpine Lodge which is wall to wall TVs showing premier league matches so there was a large proportion of younger men sat watching and commenting on the match non stop. Ordered food and it literally took 45 mins for the starters then another hour for the mains. The food was very disappointing and my chicken burger thing looked barely cooked so i left it. My wifes stroganoff resembled a thai curry so not sure about that and she left that too. Ok so it was Boxing Day and a degree of waiting is to be expected but not to that degree for the overall cost. Clearly the hold up was in the kitchen and serving staff...not their fault and the delays should have been anticipated in advance. Anyway we will go back again as its the first time we have felt disappointed. Please get it sorted for next year as its a cracker of a venue.👍

Our Christmas dinner here was wonderful! The staff were very cheery but worked very hard. The food was hot and tasted so nice. Drinks were bar service but there was no queue. I’m sure we will be back next year

Very shocked. I am a local resident living 100 metres from the Hunters Walked in the pub at 10.20 pm on Christmas eve to have a family drink with my son and daughter home for Christmas. The pub called last orders at 22.15 on Christmas eve; I suspect they wanted time to prepare for their expensive Christmas meal tomorrow at the expense of their local, regular customers. Not impressed by their response or their approach to local residents especially when we can hear their live events in our house. The Hunters is now off my list of visits and I will no longer be recommending the pub to my friends and colleagues. It is no surprise local people are deserting the pub in droves.

Best meal Ive had out in a while. The Sunday roast was to die for. Can't wait to go again.

Been a few times now. Hunters caters for just about everything. Great food, great service and a great atmosphere.

We attended the "Brunch with The Grinch" event today and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. Our 5 year old loved every minute of it. The pub was very well decoratated throughout for Christmas. Very tasteful. Even from the car park you noticed the effort that had gone into it. We were welcomed into the pub and shown our seat where our son had his own little packed lunch box which he loved, Christmas crackers on the table, tea and coffee available for the adults. All the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and well presented. The event coordinator was very pleasant and friendly explained how the course of the morning would run and made an effort to speak to everybody. The atmosphere was very impressive everybody was in good spirits and you could tell everybody was having a good time. We ordered our breakfast from a menu which had fantastic choice and very appropriate for the occasion and when the food did come for me and my wife I was more than impressed with the taste, presentation and quality of the food. (We have eaten here on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed it) While the adults were eating the Grinch and Cindy Lou were floating around from table to table entertaining the kids making an effort to approach every table and child which was priceless and made the experience whG it was in my opinion. After the adults had eaten there were party games for the kids which was great to watch them enjoying themselves and a treasure hunt which enabled the adults to participate in with their children. Snowball fights and a dance off competition followed and then the opportunity for photos with the Grinch and Cindy Lou while the kids were presented with their own certificate. Me, my wife and my son absolutely loved the whole experience from start to finish and we could not recommend this enough. It certainly got us all in the Christmas spirit a few days before the big man himself comes. Thank you so much for an unforgettable days and memories that will certainly last a very long time. See you again soon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great pub for any age group, lots of parking, disabled entrance. This pub looks amazing, decorated inside and out for Christmas. Food is good quality and cooked lovely. Had beef lasagne, would definitely recommend. Approx £16 I think. Parents absolutely loved black pudding starter. Desserts were also lovely. Presentation lovely too, lots of space inside, it's very clean, But advise you to book at busy times. Very popular!! Well worth a visit, staff very friendly too.

The food was good however several people in our party ordered the same roast meals and some received potatoes and some received none, some of the veg was undercooked and some wasn't. We also ordered desserts and after 20 minutes of waiting we were told it would still be awhile. Had it been less busy I suspect the service would have been much better

Lovely attentive staff. Fab food bit more expensive than average pub food but worth that little extra. We will be back.

Such a shame they’ve spent so much on Christmas decorations and let the food quality be so poor. You pay nearly £20 per person for any meal offered on the menu and at that price it should at least be nice. The staff are super friendly when you enter and then avoid you like the plague once you’ve ordered food 😂 the table next to us left most of their food and that table was left uncleaned the entire time we were in there. Another large table that had already finished their mains when we walked in were still sat with the same dishes in front of them when our food arrived but they were waiting on deserts which ended up being cancelled due to their wait. You’re honestly better going somewhere else than eating here. At least you might not feel as ill as we did the next day 🙂

The food was excellent, but I had to ask for our sweets on the festive menu as they seemed to have lost the food order, but on the hole, we had a great evening

Sunday the way it should be nice bar ,great food ,exceptional service ,....there's a lot pub owners should visit and emulate

This pub used to be great, now it’s overpriced with rude staff. My friend bought a burger, with a side dish and a coke, £27 - got ask to move from a table that wasn’t even reserved, probably due to regulars needing the booth as it was games night. Didn’t even ask us in a polite manner. Dreadful

Fantastic pub service and food were excellent, highly recommend. We had the two course Christmas festive meal, Christmas turkey sandwiche was absolutely delicious . We visited the artisan Christmas markets which were really good some great purchases lovely stalls

Ordered a steak sword, the meal took 40 minutes to come. When it finally arrived the waiter dropped the fries and cutlery. The meat on the sword was not the best, quite fatty and only warm. For almost £30 I would expect an enjoyable meal. Also £6.40 for a pint, we are in Preston not London. Will not be returning

My mum and I visited The Hunters Pub earlier today in Lostock Hall, and I can genuinely say it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in years. The food was absolutely delicious and clearly prepared with care. The staff were outstanding; they went above and beyond to make my birthday special and nothing was too much trouble. The friendly and attentive service truly added to our experience. I highly recommend The Hunters Pub to anyone looking for great food and warm hospitality. We’ll certainly be back and will be recommending it to all our friends and family!

Great place lots of choice, somethings a little pricy but still great

Just had the Sunday lamb roast dinner, lots of lamb and tender. Huge Yorkshire pudding. Nice to see parsnips. Mash, carrot and swede plus broccoli. Very tasty. This pub has a great atmosphere. We just wish it was our local.

Me and the mrs came for lunch food was amazing! Sat in the moulin rouge hut that was fun shout out to ryan for being great! Few different menus to choose from great selection of beers too!

The Hunters is a very special place to us. It's our escape from life where we can kick back and chill in a more grown up, yet relaxed atmosphere with great food and welcoming staff.

Excellent food. But had to order from a screen (think McDonald's) but it was a good experience. It was like ordering a takeaway to be delivered too the pub, weird but a good time. 5 star from me.

Had lunch there and could ended up losing my kids or anyone from my family who went for lunch there. 24h later from 7 people 5 of us ended up really seriously ill vomiting and diarrhea and 3rd on we still not well.

I went to the Hunters on a date with my partner. The food tasted so nice, and it was fast service. However come 2 days later, me n my partner both food poisoning from the starter we shared. Both of us have never had an illness so severe and painful. If you go, I would recommend not getting a starter, or simply not picking the nachos as a starter, trust me you’ll thank yourself.

Excellent all around. Good menu selection, very wide selection of ales, beers etc. Lots of seating with lots of booths but also open-plan seating. Clean toilets and most of all great helpful and attentive staff.

Food is expensive and chain quality. Service was really good, the guy that serviced us was really theatrical and welcoming. The atmosphere is really lovely, it's a nice place to sit with friends

Best roast dinner I’ve ever had! I’ll be honest, I always avoid eating out on a Sunday, because quite often you only get offered a roast dinner menu, and nothing beats a home cooked roast - however this Sunday we met with some friends at the hunters pub - and I took the plunge and ordered the Gammon / Roast after seeing some photos that they looked good on Facebook! Firstly the roast looked exactly like the photos online! Thick pieces of ham piled ontop of turnip mash , topped with a massive home made Yorkshire pudding, accompanied by home cooked veg and a delicious parsley sauce - the meat was cooked to perfection and served with a generous portion , every bite was heaven. The pub had the fires roaring which is a lovely touch this time of year- we ended the meal with a ice cream from the ice cream parlour at the end of the counter, I noticed the ice cream was extra tasty and then realised it’s because it was wallings ice cream which is local too - and good quality. Couldn’t fault a single thing- credit to the chefs!

I came to hunters for the salt and pepper September menu, I was really looking forward to it since I’ve not seen them do this before. However, I was very very disappointed to find our starter, main, and side had NO salt and pepper flavouring on at all. All of the food was plain and it was like they had forgot. The service is always a bit laxy every time I have been, as was this night. There was no asking how the food was so no time to complain and they was even talking about turning the lights off whilst we was sat eating.. in which they did turn them down so we could barely see our food. The girl that brought the food over had no idea which burger was which and what starter she had even brought over. The establishment itself was way too hot to be eating. Overall, I was very unhappy and I have had no response to my two emails sent, not even an acknowledgment.

We come in pretty regularly in a group. We quite often get one of the private huts and the service we get is outstanding. Really took care of us last Friday. Special shout out to Jordan and Hazza (Daryl)! Absolutely cannot fault the lads. To be honest all the staff are brilliant. Love the food too!

We were supposed to hold our wedding reception here, but they let us down three weeks before. The worst part about it is that they didn't care. They had ruined our big day and there was no proper apology from management, which I think was disgusting. The food was good and the venue was nice, but sadly, I will never return. It's a shame because my family and I used to go regularly. It's okay if you just want a meal, but definitely do not book any big events in the outside cabins or garden room.

Unnecessarily expensive. A local pub turned wannabe restaurant. Reasonable food however the price of the beer and food is enough to spoil most appetites. I’d rather walk the 3 miles to Wetherspoons.

Recently went here for my birthday meal with my family - we had the fish Friday- best fish and chips I’ve had in years! Jordan and team made couldn’t have looked after us any better, made my birthday extra special, and made my mums day when Jordan referred to her as my sister 😂

I have not been to the Hunters Pub before. I thought it was very good. We sat outside as it was a nice day. It was very busy, but the food and service I thought was first rate. I think it is well worth a visit if you are hungry, thirsty, and in the area.

Love this place, so chilled & relaxing

For the price of a Sunday dinner as it was, I expected better, from ordering at the bar we waited nearly 40 minutes for the food to come out and ended up having to send one of the meals back as it was cold. It was returned looking like it had just been put on a new plate with fresh gravy under the overcooked chicken. Couldn’t fault the pork or beef but the Yorkshire puddings were very oily on the bottoms. Disappointing as was highly recommended.

For a pay at the bar restaurant it was OK, I had the lamb which wasn't as pink as I'd of liked and the roast potatoes weren't as crispy either. But the others at my table liked it that way, I'm just a snob. As I whole though decent sized plate, very fully. Good note, pigs in blankets are gold star level

The best place to go if u take your quizzes seriously but not enough to be stuck up And boring. Come here on Wednesdays for drinks food and quiz and it’s always A Highlight. Place is so different compared to anywhere else and the staf are young but run the show so well

At the pricier end of pub food, I was expecting a bit more. My gammon, while tasty, didn't wow. No complaints, just slightly average. The Hunters has turned into a pretty huge place, and was very busy midweek. Good atmosphere and nice friendly service.

Fab food, good choice of menu's, something fir everybody . Speedy and lovely polite service. Will be back again for certain with family members.

Scot and Vickie were great, set up and decorated the garden room for our sons 21st. Attentive staff, very friendly and helpful and superb pizza’s. Everyone had a great time and would highly recommend The Hunters.

Quite expensive, but what a place... Food gorgeous, staff friendly and attentive, decor fantastic, drink selection good, beer garden large and attractive, TVs for footy big and plentiful - even a row of private beach huts! Highly recommended - probably the best pub in the world...

Literally two staff working when the pub was really busy. Waited at least ten minutes at the bar to order food and drinks. Absolutely disgraceful portion size on the Gammon that cost £19. Chips were undercooked and in edible. Will not return as I was very underwhelmed and disappointed overall

The best place ever coming from a southern guy from Alabama that says A LOT! We are hunters back in the USA and this is an AWESOME place. Jordan, Ryan, Lewis, and entire staff were wonderful. We LOVED being in the New Orleans cabin suite it is exactly like the city. We couldn't have picked a better place for a Sunday Roast. If I could give a MILLION stars I would. Perfect place for sure. You'd be DUMB as Hell not to come here.

The starter we had was delicious, loaded nachos & halloumi fries, was so looking forwards to our mains, but the mains I was extremely disappointed in, my husband had hunters chicken he said was lovely, I had scampi, the problem I had was the chucky chips were barely warm,& there was a lot of scraps if fact I only ate 1 of them the rest I left, i was so impressed with the Starters but then just as disappointed with my main!

Food was good and there was plenty but be prepared to pay around 20 quid for dish like burger and chips

Just had a fabulous birthday party for my mums 80th. The food was lovely and all the staff were fantastic. A special shout out to Ryan and Jordan who made it all extra special and went the extra mile. Thanks guys. Highly recommend and will deffo be back xx

Wow.. what a lovely place, lovely food, lovely staff and a lovely atmosphere. Outside, there are different boothes of different themes you can sit in if you wanted with a TV in there and heating. It just a fabulous idea. We went in the Peaky blinders booth. Loved it. Food was amazing and the staff are so kind and genuinely lovely people. I recommend this place 100%

Had a fantastic evening with some special friends in one of the themed huts. All the staff were friendly & helpful. There were a lot of families enjoying the evening in the outside area and well behaved dogs are also welcome with their owners.

Got takeout. Garlic bread was greasy and not nice.

I went last week for the quiz which was brilliant. But I can’t help thinking the whole venue is overpriced. £4.10 for a bottle of Coca Cola and then I spent £17.25 on hunters chicken. Could not fault the fries lovely and tasty but the hunters chicken was too hot - the chicken slightly dry, and due to the heat all the cheese melted off into the watery sauce. The BBQ sauce needs to be much thicker and was lacking in taste. Would expect better for the price. Will definitely return for a quiz but probably not food!

I’ve come to hunters quite often and really enjoy the food and the family love coming for the Sunday roasts, however on this occasion we had ordered food but when it arrived and was very clearly not up to the standard that I’ve seen there as parts were stone cold and other meals were burnt. So I went inside and got hold of a manager (I think was Matt or Mark) who came out with me and saw our meals and was instantly apologetic as it was clear the meals were bad. He very quickly brought out completely fresh meals which were amazing even for their usual high standard. As we was on our way out we was able to pick up a few deserts to take home with us as an apology and even at home they tasted great. 😁 Will definitely keep returning as 1 bad experience was easily made amazing.

atmosphere was amazing and very friendly staff however the food is a little over priced for what it is, i got the hunters chicken and it cost £17.25 all i got was microwaved mash and a small chicken breast and bacon. it was nice but for the price i was expecting something higher quality and with another side perhaps.

We came here after Go karting for a works party for food and drink. Spoke to Vicki to get us booked in and reserved the garden club for us all, great service. Ryan took care of the team and was very helpful. Food was fantastic, overall we had a great evening, thanks a lot

I don’t think we will be returning, food was tasteless and not up to standard. My partner ordered cheese and onion pie and the pastry was soggy like it has been microwaved. Veg and mash served with it tasteless and bland. I ordered mushroom stroganoff… came out nothing like I’d ever seen a stroganoff before and tasted like absolutely nothing. Pretty much a waste of £50.00

Wow. From start to finish the service was magnificent. The food? Goodness gracious what a delight. Vicki was really helpful on the phone and even though we were a bit late they were very accomodating. Despite our tardiness Hunters went above and beyond to provide a magnificent experience. Ryan was really hospitable and was there from start to finish with literally any of our requests even after the bell was rung. What a champ

Not been since the last euros and whilst the decor outside is superb the main menu is now far from reasonably priced. Would of tried the street food outside but it was closed as would have preferred that menu. Will try again as everyone has their off days. Staff where lovely though

I've been here a couple of times for family celebrations, we were well looked after with good service.

We had never been here before, but was going to view a house in the area and wanted to get some tea after it and check out the new potential local. Being a veggie, I had a quick look at the menu before the viewing and saw they had cheese and onion pie, which I really fancied. I can’t eat egg, so rang and asked if it contained it. Shannon answered the phone and said she’d check for me. She came back and said it had egg in it. I said it was a shame as I’d really fancied it. After the viewing she rang me, and said she’d had a word with the chef and that he would make me one without it. I couldn’t believe she went to so much trouble for me, no-one has ever done that. When ordering, I asked to speak to the manager, to tell them how pleased I was, and they said how she had explained it to the chef and how he had been cracking on preparing one for me from scratch. It was really tasty, and the staff were all so polite and friendly, even saying they hoped the house viewing went well. I was really impressed with the food and the staff and we thought the cabin area was great too. We are definitely going back soon.
