A really nice cosy alehouse. A very comfortable place to sit and enjoy a beer. On a cold winter’s evening waiting for a train I had a pint of Lancashire Blonde. A really good beer at only £4.60. Brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff.

Max was very welcoming and accommodating to our slightly drunken group celebrating a friends birthday. He went above and beyond. It was a quiet Sunday and he’s have been well within his rights to turn us away but he was fab. A credit to the establishment!

Saturday 1st January 2022 I visited this Lancaster up market micro pub This pub had one of the best ranges of Hydes rail ales on hand pump This pub was refreshingly pleasant inside, and the clientele was really nice Saturday 19th August We again came into this great real ale pub Great atmosphere Saturday night it was packed A 1 roomed gem The real ales were localish brewed, and the ales on were well kept This pub is handy for train station and The pub is well worth a visit Staff is good to boot today as well Saturday 30th November 2024 Tonight, we again drank in this fantastic real ale pub, the pub is a real gem, it has a quaint easy going feel to the place a grand choice of hand pumped ales good staff and a CAMRA DISCOUNT. This pub is a credit to Lancasters' real ale scene

Stumbled across a Blues jamming session, awesome!

The jailors barrel has become one of my favourite spots in Lancaster. The staff are friendly and they have a great selection of drinks although I always have a moretti. I still need to try the food.

Lovely little pub I actually like it. But the ale is Far to cold therefore it has a chilhaze and loses some of its taste. It's actually as cold as the lager. Just saying.

Nice pub with a cool selection of craft beer/cider both on draft and bottled. Old and atmospheric building with what looks like Georgian and Victorian features. Friendly service and a 10% student discount. Would recommend.

Nice surroundings, log fir, good choice of beer & wines but one of the more expensive pubs in Lancaster. Jan 2024, changed hands apparently, owned by Hydes. Not impressed, pint of bitter and 330ml can of stout £9.60. Two pumps both Lancaster Blonde, 2 other bitters and the last 2 pumps nothing.

Really disappointing experience this time. Went in on Friday at around 5pm. Don't know if the bloke serving was the owner or not but he had a really bad attitude, was incapable of any conversation and made us feel uncomfortable the entire time we were there. Got a mere grunt when I left and said thank you. Very strange behavior from someone who works in a pub. Not exactly cheap and can go other places for a cheaper, friendlier pint of Guinness. Also had an attitude when we pointed out that the Guinness head was huge and asked for a top up. Such a shame as previously left a 5 star review from a visit a while ago. Won't be going back in a hurry.

I love this pub. Love sitting in the window watching the world go by with a glass of shiraz in hand.

Lovely pub. Peaceful. Staff were friendly. And if you're not sure about a certain ale or Lager, the bar staff will be happy enough to give you a little free tasting sample. Brick and wooden decor and a short walk from the train station.

Such a calm and stylish bar. The beers on offer are extensive and great quality. The barman was really friendly and clearly knew his stuff about the drinks on offer. We luckily had a thunderstorm during our visit, so had to stay for a few extra rounds of drinks. A must visit if you like good quality beer and a comfortable, stylish vibe.

Called in for a quick drink. Plenty of choice of beers etc. Service good, Not busy at our time of entering. Enjoyable.

Gone down hill a lot since the Robert gillow days. Basically no beer selection anymore which was the best thing about it.

The bar staff are not keen on doing their job and helping the customer whatsoever. They are limited to a T with their options and even though they are able to make cocktails such as the Bloody Mary, they are still persistent in not pleasing the customer. I would recommend going to any other place to get your money’s worth instead of this place.

Great for ale or beers a city centre bar near train station excellent bar next to sights this bar gives you the style of lancaster enjoy...

Good range of beers, of which I had the Amber, well kept & served. Taste was typical of the style. Decor sets the tone for a casual, hipster slightly retro feel. Early evening so place was quiet but ambience was relaxed and laid back. Will definitely visit again.

Friendly place , great staff good beer, attractive clean & tidy venue and had good entertainment the evenings we visited . Not a lot more to want from an evening in the pub

It’s rare that I write a review, especially while I’m still sat in the place. Exceptional service, Sam served us and we were blown away by her knowledge, how personable and caring she was. A clear passion and care for her job, very impressed.

Excellent location right by the train station. Staff are excellent and seem to be knowledgeable about the superb range of beers. Well kept cask too. Not tried the food but it looks great.

Always a pleasure to visit. Has a homely feel to it with eclectic furniture plus a good selection of beers. Poorly paid staff means a high staff turn over.

Lovely warm and inviting traditional pub with a grand range of beers to delight you. Upstairs room for groups and small events. Lovely staff. Good vibes. Recommended.

Really cool place. No wonder it's nearly always packed. They have the best bartender in town there. Occasional live music. Very cosy and just cool.
