the KEG & GRILL in Birmingham

How can you charge 8.85 for poppadoms. when they ask for 3 poppadoms each and get three little baskets with 3 small bits in. Absolutely shocking. Staff just laughed. 3 poppadoms is 12 by the way not 3 triangles

A small group of us visited on 29th December. Friendly and very helpful staff, the boss went out of his way to accommodate our requests. We only ordered a curry and roti/nans each but all of it was delicious. Would definitely visit again.

Nice bar with relaxed vibe, sports on tv and good Indian food. Definitely worth a look.

Advertised as open but closed on a Friday afternoon. Need to update their opening hours. Wouldn't waste your time in case it is closed. Very disappointing.

Una respuesta realmente decepcionante a los problemas que tuvimos con nuestras comidas. Pedimos 4 tuberías, 2 lados para compartir, patatas fritas, arroz y nan. Teníamos un vegetariano con nosotros y pedimos 2 Saag Paneer, ambos de pollo y que nuestra amiga vegetariana comió un pedazo de lo cual era extremadamente molesto para ella. Cuando se lo planteamos al personal, nos dijeron que el gerente vendría, cosa que no hizo, fue un tema que es totalmente inaceptable cuando siempre se deben considerar los requisitos dietéticos. No somos un grupo para hacer un escándalo y pacientemente esperamos a que el gerente viniera pero no hay alegría, recordamos a la camarera y luego también explicamos haber probado todos nuestros currys que uno era incorrecto, pedimos 2 kormas y uno probó si tomates, y no coco en absoluto, el otro claramente era un sabor korma, es un sabor bastante distintivo, así que la diferencia era obvia, la cocina claramente no presta atención, el gerente todavía no vino a nuestra mesa. Mientras recibíamos una disculpa, solo de la camarera, continuamos esperando al gerente. 2 comidas arruinadas deberían haber sido quitadas de la factura como pedimos, x 2 curry y el Saag incorrecto para ser eliminado, que era justo como 2 comidas fueron arruinadas, nos dijeron cuando finalmente caminé hacia el gerente, que él ordenaría los artículos con descuento, entonces se nos presentó una factura con 15% de descuento. Obtener dinero era claramente más importante que resolver nuestros problemas que estaban justificados. Servir carne a nadie que come carne no es la señal de una cocina concienzuda, ten cuidado, y no esperes que te cuiden aquí cuando suceda. Si el gerente hubiera sido justo, este examen no habría sido necesario. VEGETARIANOS CUIDADO.

I love the wrap chicken tikka which perfectly rich flavor and texture .with the Gajar halwa with had a great blend of carrots milk and sugar which add a sweet but pungent flavor to it overall. The looks and view of the place was great with area to play pool or darts and great lighting.

This place is amazing. I came here with one of my friends and the food is top-notch. The service is great as after ordering it took 10 minutes for us to get our food. They are also very polite. The atmosphere is ok but on rare occasions is packed with people wanting to meet up with family's which I don't mind. Overall, I'd give this place a 4.9 out of 5. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Went to Birmingham for the first time and ate at Keg & Grill. Popadoms were in bits; the 2 dips were awful; our main meal came whilst we were eating our starters and we had to ask for fresh plates for the main! The Kingfisher lager was flat. Only 2 other people in the whole time. Not a good experience for a big city! Never again!!

Used to go to the Keg & Grill in it’s old location often and really loved it. New location is a massive disappointment. It reminded me of a 6th form common room. Pool table & juke box are a big mistake - was a group of rowdy drunk lads playing pool and singing loudly to the songs they’d put on the juke box. Food was nice but not as good as it used to be and prices have gone up. And apparently you are expected to eat poppadums without a plate?! Sad to say this but I won’t be going there again

I came here with a group of my friends and family about 20 of us for a get together for his pre wedding party , and considering how busy and packed it was they was still able to get a table for us 20 people and rearrange tables for us . The service and staff was outstanding and amazing and really welcoming also I’ve been to many bar & mix grill places and this probably has to be one of the top 10 by far in Birmingham that I’ve been to . They have a really good selections of beers and ales and also ciders , and quality selection of the spirits from top spirits to standard classics , also a great mix of shooters . I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves a mix grill and curries the flavours of each one honestly is spot on all thanks to the amazing chefs .

Large family group of us 18 in total came in for a meal,member of our group phoned & booked a table so they were aware of how many of us there was.Looks nice from the outside but the inside is like an old knackered pub with a snooker table & TV's showing sports.We arrived at 8pm but our main course did not arrive until 10pm yet people came in after us & were served.My mum wanted a plain chicken breast which was pre ordered yet did not appear.The chef did not seem to understand what a plain chicken breast was!.A male staff member that worked there was run ragged up & down the stairs with food when it finally appeared 1 dish at a time with gaps in between each person receiving their meal,I did offer to help.....Shocking service really as there was only 1 chef working & although we did get numerous apologies & 15% off the bill I would not recommend this place.Came all the way from NZ for a curry which was nice but service let it down & some family members said their food wasn't the greatest.This place was recommended to us as well but it was such a let down.

Bad food. Was old food heated up. Dry chewy and very bad taste. We didn’t even finish and just left.

I recently visited this place and tbh it was nothing that I expected . The ambiance was not organised and the food was also not up to the expectations.

Fabulous wraps and masala chips - had a peel at the next tables curries -they also looked brilliant, lovely friendly staff. Hopefully this place will get as popular as their old premises - it was a bit lacking in atmosphere due to lack of customers - well worth trying and I’m sure it will soon be a must go to place.

Popped in here for a Mixed Grill, and the food, service, and beer were all decent. The food was that good, we surprised ourselves by finishing it all off and not taking any home with us like we normally do. There was that traditional desi pub ambience, but it was surprisingly quiet for a city centre eatery. I was there from before 7pm to after 8pm on a Thursday evening, and in that entire time there were only two other customers in there, who were just having a few drinks. I rang them a few days beforehand and I was assured they use meat which is NOT produced in accordance with any religious faith.

Nice little pub and grill. Food was quite good 7-8/10. Friendly staff. Atmosphere slightly bland but clean. There are some pool tables and slot machines present as well.

The food was just absolutely incredible!!! Went with 2 other friends and ordered a lot of things to share including the large meat platter, lamb, chicken and paneer curries, all these were just so delicious But the absolute star of the show was the 'Vegetable Samosa Chaat'. The only reason I gave the atmosphere 3 stars was because it was a quiet Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, everything was perfect. Highly recommend!!! Will be coming back next time I'm in Birmingham.

This is my favourite place to Dine, the food is exceptional 👌 and the staff go above and beyond to make your visit as pleasant as possible.The staff have great interaction with there customers and there's always a happy vibe to walk into.

Someone used your number to call me saying they are 'Josef from o2' , I queried him and he cut the line after a few minutes. I knowof your establishment so just warning you about your number being used in some sort scam though not sure how.

Sampled the veg mixed grill platter and was very impressed. Very tasty indeed. *** Went to sample the food. The Saag was lovely and flavourful and the meat grill platter was also good. All in all, a nice mid week treat. *** Used to be Jungle Bird before it closed permanently and saw that it’s now a new place so got curious and popped in for a drink. Didn’t eat so can’t comment on the food. People are super friendly though and love seeing a selection of beer on draft that you don’t tend to see elsewhere. A chilled place to hangout and watch a bit of sport. Will 100% come back to try the food.

In Birmingham for the weekend and google places to eat near our hotel. So we gave it ago and we weren’t disappointed. Lovely friendly staff nice warm welcome . Great choice on menu at a great price . Food was well presented and tasted amazing and huge portions. Definitely recommend and returned when visiting again

Not too busy on a Wednesday night. Took work colleagues here from out of town. They loved it as they hadn't seen mixed grills before. All gave glowing reports. I had chicken balti which was a bit spicy for my taste but enjoyable all the same.

Nice desi clean desi pub. We had high expectations of the food based on the reviews but we were underwhelmed, especially with the nice aroma coming from the kitchen. The chicken tikka and chicken in the curries were dry and made it unpleasant to eat. And the garlic naans while were delicious were £4.50 each and same with each portion of rice of which I would had said this was more than London price.

Visited on a Monday evening. No real atmosphere, very quiet, except for the pop-punk music channel. The food is a touch more expensive than other desi-pubs, but there's better ones in the West Mids.

Everything on the mixed grill was overcooked, the butter chicken had 0 taste and everything was overpriced

Wow food and service were brilliant. No sticky tables, yay. We haven’t eaten such authentic Indian food in a long time. Good wholesome quality food. Would recommend any day of the week. Slightly strange pub like atmosphere but don’t let that stop you…. The food is fab.

Very quiet for a Saturday evening and it felt like a social club, a bit bland, bright and basic but the food was delicious.

Booked to go with family based on recommendations and reviews, hadn’t realised they had actually moved premises. Food was mediocre at best but the new venue is awful, a brightly lit cross between a sports bar and music venue - commentary from tv and music from jukebox both blaring out in competition with each other, absolutely no atmosphere in the place will not go back nor would I recommend this place to anyone

Disappointing!! Went to the original Keg & Grill a few times so decided to try the new location (under new management). Firstly, the menu on the website is different from the one given in the restaurant; no lamb chops included with large mix grill!! I therefore ordered a large boneless mix grill and a couple of naans. The kebabs were bone dry as were the chicken pieces. Also, the tempura battered prawns seemed an odd addition to a mixed grill. Upon raising concerns with a waitress, the chef came out of the kitchen to have a chat and in fairness he made a new portion of lamb kebabs to compensate. While the replacement kebabs tasted 100% better than the original ones, my concern is I was initially given a platter not fit for human consumption. Furthermore, to charge £3.25 for a plain naan and £4.50 for a garlic naan is a little steep. Needless to say I won't be returning to the new Keg & Grill and will stick with other more trusted value for money establishments.

After two years as a Regular going to the old Keg & Grill that we loved, we decided to try the new location. Prices are much higher than expected, pilau rice = £5.50 = WOW and food quality has definitely dropped. I have zero problems if the food is good but here was 6/10 with a oily after taste. The staff were amazing, 5* no question but to charge those prices you need to lift your food game as competition is huge in Brum.

Great place, great food, great atmosphere

Extremely disappointed after reading such great reviews. We were a big table and it was evidently clear staff were struggling with how busy it was. Wrong food orders, food dropped on the floor (I know accidents can happen) and waiting over 30minutes for the bill despite asking 4 times. One poppadom split into 6 small pieces cost £3.95. When it finally came to paying the bill, they tried to charge us £354. Fortunately we had already worked out that our bill was under £200. The man said he would go and check and miraculously came back with a bill of £180. Almost half the original bill. The reason was that they were busy so the bill was miscalculated. 1st time on reviews I've ever written a bad one but was extremely disappointed with the service here.

I ordered a drink on a Saturday afternoon. The place was mostly empty. Staff kept coming over asking if I needed anything else before I finished my drink, and they were clearly implying that they wanted me to leave.

Service 10/10 Drink selection 10/10 Food was so close to being great. Was more pricey than most desi style pubs but I understand they're in a prime Birmingham location so rent etc must be high. The mint yogurt was horrendously artificial. It tasted like toothpaste. The mixed grills and the curries were decent It's unfortunate that they very nearly have a vegan mixed grill, but for some reason choose to use dairy to coat the soya tikka rather than a dairy free milk? Would bring in much more business if vegans could get a mixed grill in the city centre! Missing out on a money maker there. Paying the bill as a group was also very complicated as everything comes up on your bill as "veg main, non veg main, veg starter" etc so a bit tricky to work out who's had what. With some tweaking this place could be amazing. I hope they take my comments constructively

Very poor service in the keg last night. Yes they were very busy but they hadn’t staffed up enough for the bookings they had. We didn’t get a lot of what we ordered and one person didn’t get a meal at all despite reminding them 3 times. Shame because it used to be wonderful 👎 also the prices have gone up considerably to a point where it’s not good value even though the food is good.

excellent service and big portions! We came just after work so was quiet, right next to New Street station and theatre.

We were attending a gig at the O2 academy and wanted somewhere to grab a beer and a bite to eat before the doors opened and so after looking at plenty of reviews we booked here and I am so glad we did. The Keg & Grill is situated so conveniently for the O2 (5min walk if that!) and is right next door to the Alexandra Theatre. Firstly, it's a really smart city centre bar, sport on the box (if that floats your boat) loads of beers on draft and really attentive staff. Most importantly the food is amazing, think pub grub but with authentic curries, the menu is not huge but that doesn't mean it lacks choice, it is a curry restaurant and doesn't try and to pretend otherwise and it was amazing. We shared a Paneer Tikka starter which was beautifully cooked and flavoured, served with peppers and onions (kebab style) served with dips. Mains were Punjabi Lamb and Bhindi Dupiaza which, the portions were really good, not too big and wasteful but certainly enough for two goes! We asked for medium spiced and they were spot on with the spice levels, the staff were keen to make sure that it was cooked to our taste and followed up to make sure we were happy. Our sides were Masala Chips and Pilau Rice, both excellent twists on curry house staples, really tasty, well cooked and generous portions. We have 2 beers each and came way with a bill for £65 which in the middle of a city centre I thought was really good. The staff were lovely, the place is really nice, I can't speak highly enough of our experience, if you're on a night out in that part of town or indeed want somewhere new for a few beers and a curry you can't go wrong here, bang in the middle of the city, loads of parking nearby and the train station is a 2 min walk away. Enjoy!

Great food with a good selection of drinks. The new restaurant next to the Alex Theatre is very handy for central Birmingham. Same nice people who look after you very well and Sky Sports as well!! You must try the Soya Tikka as a starter and I can recommend the Lamb Madras which is one of the best I’ve ever had. The grills are very good with a selection available for most tastes. Proper Indian food using fresh ingredients.

Outstanding food, 10/10. Service was very friendly. Shahi paneer and veg mixed grill were some of the best we’ve had anywhere. Would recommend to anyone looking for good Indian food in Birmingham!

14th August 2023. Interesting I haven't had a response to my review dated 8th August 2022. Has anyone else had an experience where they were given a corner of a piece of paper as a receipt? Visited on the evening of Monday 8th August 2022. We wanted to eat in a desi pub which we had recently heard about. Only had one real ale on which was ok. We had a fish plus a mushroom starter. The fish was a bit plain tasting. The mushroom and broccoli was nice and spicy. We had a fish plus a chef special curry. Both were ok sadly there wasn't an option to select different strengths. A bit of an odd one was when I asked for our bill the young lady who served us gave us two corners of a piece of paper. On one was written 34 and the other 58. It was pointed out our bill was £58. I asked why hadn't we been given a bill. She said they normally do. I paid our bill of £58 by credit card. A very odd one. I don't have plans to revisit.

This is a diamond of a pub with a quite unusual twist. Great beer in the true pub atmosphere , but all the bar food is Indian themed and very good quality. The bad news is I believe they are being forced to close down. I hear they plan to reopen a new outlet in the same name, so look out for them. Highly recommended

Thank you for making our friends from Stratford upon Avon experience of their first grill memorable. Grill was great different to the normal same taste everywhere else. They are now sold on grills and searched local grills near their home

Strolled here from the Mariot Hotel for scoff, it was quiet but table service in a lovely old fashioned pub. Very happy with the curry, came slow enough to be mostly cooked from fresh. The pilau rice was very nice. Can fully recommend.

I came here with a group of friends as it was one of the closest pubs to our hotel. From the outside it looks like a pub as does the inside once you’re in. However the menu was entirely South Asian (curry) and was without a doubt one of the best curries I’ve had. It was authentic and had great taste. The fact that we went 3 times in our 5 night stay sums up how great we thought it was, especially the vegetarian dishes. Recommend the saag and daal makhani. Advisable to book in advance. Still can’t work out how I was in a curry house that was in fact a pub watching sky sports. Brilliant

After a pint at the Craven Arms we popped here for a mixed grill and veg curry. It didnt disapoint. Friendly staff and tasty food.
