The Kings Croft Hotel in Wakefield

Stayed here two night’s in November for a wedding. As it was only me, I booked a single room. The room was much smaller than expected with very little room to move around and the standard of cleaning was poor; the room is in need of a deep clean. There was what I can only presume was a combination of months old dead skin cells, dust and debris on the carpet in front of the skirting board, other people’s hair, urine and dust on the back of and around the toilet and orange mould in the shower. Hard standing parking is not adequate. On the day of the wedding there was also a conference being held. Guests at the wedding were asked to park in a field located beyond the hardstanding car park. This was not too bad on arrival as it was daylight, however navigating a slightly uneven field in heels, in the dark was not great fun… it was also extremely difficult for our elderly relatives. The majority of staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only exception to theirs was the female laying out the tables the night before for my sister’s wedding; she was unprofessional approaching me in the bar, concerned that there was no table plan, did not know how to set the tables and asking me for the table plan? I had no part in planning this wedding and on contacting my sister, the table plans and arrangements had been sent to the hotel months prior to the wedding. They sifted through their emails and recovered the plans. The positive that I can offer is that the food was delightful, the grounds are beautiful and the close proximity to motorways is very convenient.

We had a funeral tea there and I can recommend highly the staff were amazing...so thoughtful and kind

Went for the Christmas Day Dinner and it was great. Very friendly greeting and shown to our table straight away. Food was delicious and well presented. All staff were smart and courteous.

It was the festive afternoon tea.

Haven't stayed there but been for sunday lunches and to tribute singers. Really enjoyed them brilliant.

Lovely spot and delicious food for our Boxing Day lunch. Update. Not quite as good this year, but the beef was faultless. Would be very helpful if they took drinks orders at the table.

Went to a party, great atmosphere.

The staff are friendly and accommodating. My daughter & arrived when there was a very large party happening with music playing till midnight. We were offered a bungalow instead of a room in the main building. This was very much appreciated as the music was loud. The room was clean and spacious, there was plenty of free parking and a great breakfast.

Went fot entertainment which both times have been good .the food is lovely. Staff need to know the prices of drinks as I was charged £6 for lime cordial and a bottle of cider then I was charged £8.80 for the same drinks. I have been twice now to tribute acts and the prices always changes throughout the night

Booked a room here while attending a Christmas party function. On check in we went to allotted room, on opening the door the stench of sewage was overwhelming I spoke to reception who offered to move us to a different room which was much better. The annoying thing is I overheard the guy speak to maintenance over the phone who said this was the norm for the area where the room was Why on earth are these rooms let until the problem is solved We certainly won't be staying over again

Good food, great entertainment.

Came for my 65th birthday . The waitress was lovely and would say the service was 100%. The let down was the food .

I attended my department's Christmas party, organized by my bosses. Fantastic atmosphere, world-class service, extremely nice and friendly service. The perfect place for such a company party. Delicious food. I highly recommend it.

Cannot believe a hotel like this does not serve baby Guinness shots the most popular shot around, loss of revenue wont be back

Lovely place, but expensive drinks.

My daughter married at King's Croft a few hiccups the night before and lack of heating at wedding breakfast but overall they had a great day location was good staff and service great our master of ceremonies was brilliant and the bar man on evening was good I was a little unwell and he kept me supplied with water would recommend

Service amazing from start to finish , food excellent rooms clean and comfortable.

We love this hotel but on this particular visit we just went to the Craft Fair which is held each year. The staff are always pleasant and food is excellent.

Looking forward to staying there again

Enjoyed a very nice meal here, with our Bowls Club. The food was excellent, and the efficient and friendly staff were great.

Lovely quaint hotel, it as history, the room we had was lovely, & the staff very friendly, they do lots of theme nights here, we will be visiting again.

We booked this hotel as we were visiting a few local places and it seemed like a good location which it is. When we first checked in we were given a room for 2 adults when there were 3 of us so we were frantically looking around this small room for another bed. We went back to reception and got another room straight away with 2 single beds and a sofa bed, all had a comfortable night sleep, bathroom was wet room style which is handy, and breakfast was ok-good, maybe because we were slightly later for breakfast it had dried out the bacon and scrambled egg which made the meat hard. Great options for breakfast you won’t go hungry. Friendly staff, great steak night menu made much more pleasant but the man who served us (who has family in the south) Nice high views of surrounding town from our room. Domestic staff were great, keeping the room stocked up with tea bags and doing a great job keeping the place clean and tidy throughout our stay. Thank you for a great stay!

Went for a tribute to Billy Ocean, he was great the dance floor was full !! Tge food was amazing too.

Lovely Sunday roast, a bit more up market than the normal.

Rooms are ok, the shower was brilliant. Some of the staff were lovely the rest shouldn’t work in the hotel industry. As for the 4.30am wake up from the fire alarm and everyone waiting outside for no member of staff to come out and let us know it was a false alarm or apology for it happening.

I only came in for a funeral wake so did not see much of the hotel, just a bar and a function room. Nice location and pleasant environment for us mourners.

Attended a wedding here yesterday. What a fantastic day! Food and drink was lovely, staff were great and attentive. The prawn cocktail, beef dinner, cheese board, hog roast and breakfast was really good. Our room was nice and clean and had everything you could need. I forgot to mention we’d be using the sofa bed so we didn’t have any bedding for that, they soon put some in the room when I asked. We had a great time, would definitely recommend the food and to friends as a wedding venue.

Couldn’t care less about their guests actually getting any sleep or even care about replying to the issue being raised

We had a great time at kings croft hotel. We went for the themed night two course meal very nice the group ok we stopped in the cottages really surprised how nice they were we definitely be going back

Had the 2 course lunch today and probably the best food I.ve ever tasted..service excellent and with a genuine smile.

Staff are friendly, the hotel is in a nice setting, restaurant food is good, and functions seem to be what this place is about. Just ensure your room isn't in the main building (or is one owned by the purple chain and save a few quid) if you want a good night's sleep.

Wonderful sparkling clean beautiful decorated rooms and wonderful staff who cannot do enough for you The food was lovely and arrived hot lnspite of the fact they had three weddings on that day.

Beautiful wedding venue, a great choice of rooms, and the grounds are stunning. Staff are really friendly and helpful, and will go out of their way to accommodate you. Lovely food, perfect service. Would highly recommend.

Drinks far too expensive. £10 for a pint of tetleys and a pint of lager!

Lovely hotel in amazing grounds, great value for money.

Very popular place for weddings, other celebrations and funerals. Nice setting outside and parking available. Maybe the inside could be updated a little bit but it is still very nice. I could not give the rooms a rating as I have never seen them. I recommend..

Lovely traditional hotel with good entertainment and good food

Function room was tidy and well equipped. Laid on food good. I only visited for a function, so no comments from me about accommodation.

Was a simple over night stay but it was absolutely fine.

Another great night out. Excellent food and even got my raw vegetables right. My prawn cocktail was a tad small. Could have been a little more for me, but again the prawns were tasty. The chicken was delicious and moist. The crème brulé hadn't set properly, but that didn't spoil it. But saying that it was excellent. The people serving us all did a brilliant job and everything went without a hitch.

Fabulous location for a wedding as we Attended over the Friday and stayed night in roomy plush room ,Great food and quality wedding! I'd recommend to anybody,you won't be disappointed!

Attended Sunday afternoon for the Robin Williams event. The food and the entertainment were both first class. We will be back.

fantastic place for a wedding lovely service.Food was gorgeous. Bar prices abit high but good service rooms and cleanliness of the hotel and rooms was to a high standard nice comfy bed over all very nice and I'd recommend it and I would return.

The service was excellent, I stayed here for 4 weeks for work. The bungalows were everything I needed to stay for a business stay. The food was amazing, and I can't stress enough, being able to have a beautifully cooked beef roast every night... I nearly did not try anything else on the menu. Very friendly staff also top notch team. This venue does cater to a lot of wedding parties and funerals, which means we had to change location for dinner from the main restaurant to some rooms near the bar, but the communication is on point so no issues or confusion. The location can get windy, but the view is breathtaking, looking over and beyond.

Excellent place to stay and eat

Our daughter had their wedding here on good Friday and it was excellent. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very clean and comfortable. The staff were amazing, they were eager to help and went out of their way. My only issue was that when we originally booked the venue we were promised a small quiet room for some guests to sit in who are either elderly and confused or adults and children with autism who get distressed with a lot of noise and people. This didn't happen so some guests did struggle. Otherwise I cannot praise the venue high enough. How they managed to serve everyone together with such beautiful food which was hot, is beyond me. Delicious food, drinks served promptly by cheerful staff. The whole day was wonderful. The night porter in particular deserves a medal. What a fantastic member of the team. Many thanks to everyone.

Went for a tribute themed day to see Jersey boys really good value meals were fantastic the band were really good drinks a bit dearer then most hotels

This hotel doesn't care less about the local residents that live close by. This is due to the loud firework displays they do for wedding events. I've now written 3 letters to the manager, complaining about the hotel being a serious noise nuisance towards the local community, and so far I still haven't received a letter of apology from them. The sooner this hotel stops doing firework displays, the better it will be for residents who live close by. Anyone thinking about having a meal in their restaurant, then just stay away. Because in October 2023, I had a meal in their restaurant, and the cutlery was dirty. Had to complain to the manager about this. Which by the way, the manager was not helpful

Room was very clean,bed was comfortable, was there for a wedding, food was nice,price of the drinks was high.

A beautiful location and bar. Didn't use the rooms as was attending a gathering.

I found the experience very pleasing indeed and very surprising as I and my wife need wheelchairs. Their cottages are very good and we had a pleasant stay.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and the foods lovely but the service specifically Kieran I’m pretty sure his name was he thought it was funny to pull my moms hair “as a joke” she’s 98 years old and it really hurt her

Stayed on a Sunday, wanted an evening meal around 8pm but the restaurant closed at 5pm. Very quiet, olde world atmosphere. Fantastic venue for weddings with its stunning grounds and function rooms. Stayed in a bungalow for something different but was put in a disabled access room but being over 6 foot I more or less had to kneel down to get to the sink but plenty of room. A nice stay but disappointed in the meal situation,. Wouldn't stay again.

I took a group of twenty for a lunchtime event . The afternoon went well and everyone agreed that it was enjoyable. The service was good, considering the number of people attending.

Went here for Sunday lunch with family, so didn't stay in any of the rooms, the food was delicious and hot, beautiful place with fantastic grounds, will certainly go again.
