The Kings Head in Lichfield

Visited here a couple of weeks ago and I was extremely dissatisfied with the food and service. The staff were stood around the bar and appeared annoyed when asked a question. There was a mix up with our food and we asked our waitress Erin for help, she did not help, instead she went to stand around the bar and talk to fellow staff members. Would not visit again.

Great pub with great atmosphere and great staff

I would rate this establishment less stars if it were possible. I am currently trying to engage the owner through email regarding criminal damage of a genuine id card that was fraudulently damaged. I have requested an incident report, which should be completed when any id is confiscated but at present l am receiving no reply. To clarify only the police can confiscate genuine documentation and to destroy is a criminal offence.

Amazing pub it has really turned around the food it's fantastic value for money good friendly staff who are really helpful

Had the unfortunate experience of visiting here and witnessed the staff and manager being extremely rude,arrogant and downright nasty to a young couple that were already there.i actually felt embarrassed on behalf of the young couple as to how they were being treated and spoken to. Will not be visiting this awful place again

Very rude staff. Seeing staff being rude and aggressive towards patrons who basically had done nothing wrong. Definitely a pub to avoid in the future!

Shockingly bad customer service! Claimed a real ID was fake and unnecessarily escalated the situation to the point where a staff member had to be restrained from assaulting my sister in law. We have since recovered the ID from the police (who confirmed it is infact real) to find the pub have cut it up into pieces! I am very much aware of challenge 25 and that ID’s must always be checked for age rated sales, but question why the management lack understanding of how to tell if an ID is real and totally mishandled the situation with aggression and foul language. Now the ID has been proven to be real questions need to be answered as to why they cut it up and why staff had to be physically held back from assaulting a young girl who was simply asking for her ID back.

Friendly warm environment friendly staff and nice food .. Great 1st time visit

Had my very real ID taken off of me by Stuart the manager despite already serving me 5 drinks without checking my ID. Was supposed to hand it into police upon the belief that it is fake (without actually doing any proper checks) however didn’t and lied on the phone that he had, also lying that he had handed CCTV footage of us being aggressive over (which we were not at all), despite his bar lady called Erin (who’d been necking pints on the job) actually having to be held back from me, which is all you would’ve seen on the CCTV. Had to waste police time as they had to show up at the pub in order to get my ID back as he simply would not give it, again, despite saying he did. Extremely patronising, rude and lying bar staff and man, with no clue at all how to run an establishment. Save your money and stay away from this identity thief. - More lies in his reply. Just received my ID back from the police and it has been cut up into pieces, purely for the fact that he wanted an actual reason for it to have been taken off me- when initially there were NO cuts or snaps just a tiny bit of bending. We have a police reference number and will be taking this further. PS. you’re supposed to challenge 25 BEFORE serving 5 drinks to a 19 and 20 year old. PPS- if you DO take ID off of someone, you’re supposed to hand it into the police, if not, this is identity theft.

Very dead bad customer service do not recommend

The manager of this place needs to learn some basic customer care skills , customers should be treated equally and with respect, customers are your bread and butter! Terrible experience when visiting this bar and l will be taking this matter further

Really pleased with the service and the food. Excellent value for money and really good friendly atmosphere. This is one of our favourite pubs but the first time we've had food here and will definitely be coming back. Brilliant staff.

Nice carvery we visit on occasions

I like the place , veteran myself. But the last couple of times have been. Have been disappointing . No food left even though the lunch time menu and place was empty, but that could be because they left due to lack of food. Mate had a burger he didn't like it said it was worse than a field burger and tasted like it was off the savers deals in Morrisons. The staff were just stood around chatting and asking mate said they keep looking over here and laughing. He suffers with CPTSD combat stress so is hyper vigilant. Think a bit of customer service training better quality food and it could get itself back to how it used to be. A pub where veterans are proud to bring friends too.

I don't write many reviews, but I just want to say what a great pub & friendly staff - we were there for a 25th birthday party on a very busy Saturday night with a superb live band - our children are all now grown up mid 20's but have various special needs. It was really nice to to see how they could just enjoy a good night out and also the friendliness vibe overall of other people in there. Thank you for a good night & it's a really impressive old building too with loads of character.

Good food, good beer, good service, lovely pub

Well what a lovely surprise! We came in thinking it was a chain pub and expected chain pub food. Well we were wrong. I got a bacon and cheese burger which was scrumptious! Cooked to perfection , even the bun was toasted just right. We weren’t entirely sure if the chips were proper chips or came out of a freezer they were that good! We are going round the shops now then calling in for a dessert before heading home.

A beautiful historical pub in the centre of Lichfield. It has undergone a refurbishment and considering its age it was lovely and warm and inviting. Staff are friendly. 4 drinks was the cheapest round for us in Lichfield as they do a real ale deal on a Monday. They also sell fantastic crusty cobs. What else do you need. Perfect 👌

Had a excellent time here yesterday, the pub itself, while small, is fascinating and loved all the Staffs Regiment memorabilia! Staff were friendly and accommodating and there was a good choice of world lagers, ciders and a fair but small selection of real ales. We had a prawn cocktail and kids Mac n cheese as we only popped in for a snack and the loo, had to wait a little while but it was Sunday carvery so understandable. Just wish my prawn cocktail came with a slice of bread and butter but I guess I could've ordered one had I known it didn't come with one. Portion size was great. Definitely worth a visit while in Lichfield!

I live in Spain and therefore can only visit whenever I'm with friends and relatives in England. I thoroughly enjoyed the carvery meal . The choice was of meats and vegetables was very good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The ambience was pleasing. I would recommend this pub. My only complaint was my difficulty to access the Wi-Fi!

It's quirky but in a good way, it has this feeling your somewhere different and yet it feels homely. There's a good diverse choice of food and drinks, and most off all seating. You can sit inside and yet still be outside so fresh air galore. Overall a nice and good experience.

Had a lovely lunch here in early August. The food was fantastic and you could tell that care and attention had been put in to making the meals to a great standard. The ingredients were of great quality which really makes a difference when you compare to other pubs in the area. I look forward to returning soon.

Held our wedding reception in the function room, Dave looked after us from the day we first enquired and through out our special day. He catered for our menu choices, the food was excellent for a large group with vegetarian and vegan options catered for. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. Dave went over and above averting disaster, when he sourced and replaced our table balloons that had deflated overnight before we were even aware there was a problem. Our special day went well, our guests were looked after and enjoyed the venue as much as we did. We are grateful to Dave and his wonderful team for all their hard work looking after us. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and a good selection of drinks. We always make a point of calling in when we are visiting Lichfield.

This was our second time visiting for the popular Sunday carvery. There is a wide selection of vegetables and a generous portion of meat. One thing I would say is the beef in particular had become a little dry under the heater. Other than that a very tasty meal with plenty of gravy.

This is a friendly, historic pub with good and very reasonably priced pub-style food. The dining area is spacious and decorated with memorabilia relating to the Staffordshire Regiment, which has its origins here. I haven't been to any of the evening events but it sounds as if they have an interesting programme of music and spoken word events.

Good pub. Only fault as a regular visitor is the large amount of glasses always on bar areas and tables during busier times. Staff very helpful but a glass collector is definitely required as not a good look and makes me question the turn around and cleanliness of the glasses as shelves have little glasses to choose from off the shelf

My mom and stepdad used to run the Kings Head from 2000 to 2007 I believe so it’s a place I love and have fond memories of. I visited The Kings Head on 13/07/2024 with my mom and she is now disabled but also has fond memories of running the pub. It’s developed into a great place to spend time in and remember all the times we spent there as a family. Keep on building the good work you are doing there. Well What can I say about this pub and the staff want in for one drink as I was passing and the bar staff made me feel like I was at home being a new person in a new place I was quiet and not my self but then I got talking to this one barmaid Alex and she made me lighten up and and the conversation was flowing I would definitely be coming back just to see her and finish what we was talking about got to get to the end off everything I would give her more then five star if I could she is a great influence on new customers and make the experience Worth it and enjoyable to drink

We visited the not long ago for lunch. The food was absolutely beautiful. The lovely lady who served us was called Alex. Her service was perfect, everything you would expect from a little pub like this. 10/10 recommend.

Such a lovely pub in Lichfield with a great atmosphere! Food is 10/10 and service was really quick. Staff are all really friendly, special mention to Alex and Stuart who were super friendly and even gave us a great deal on the multiple rounds of shots we had. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Just the best pub in Lichfield for me … so glad the new owners have taken it over and are using their vast experience to bring the pub back to life after a long time where it had lost its way … the team are exceptional (without a single exception) … I simply cannot recommend this place more highly (and I’m a fussy bugger) … well done Dave and crew … a great job brilliantly done

Could not recommend this pub enough. The landlord was very generous and accommodating with a request I had put to him. Being in the industry myself I can see this is a top notch well run venue with excellent staff. Sunday lunch looked superb. I will highly recommend to all my friends and family. And hope to return in the future. Thanks again. Xx

Me and my friend were looking for food but they had stopped serving. Barman went out of his way to recommend local restaurants and even pointed out the directions, he was lovely 🙂 will be going back

First visit here we had the two meals for £12 which was very good value. The place was very busy but we didn't have to wait long for the food to come out. We plan to visit again next time we're in Lichfield.

Come here often for the live music. Always a fab atmosphere. Reasonably priced drinks. Great bar staff.

A lovely historical pub with friendly staff. Went in for Sunday roast. The beef was a bit tough but all the trimmings were great, excellent ale. Enjoyed the atmosphere and decorations very much! Will definitely come back 👍😊

Great traditional pub in Lichfield - always a port of call on a bus trip over! New pubs come along but can't beat the old ones.

Didn't have food but went in for a few drinks and it's looking good pubs been refurb and more people in as well, service good also all table chairs full and this couple moved over so we could sit excellent

The place was busy but we managed to find a table,( albeit a high one which I'm not keen on). Warm and comfortable inside and friendly bar staff. We had the lunchtime offer which was good value, and the chicken in the hunter's chicken was massive! Will go back if visiting Lichfield again.

This is a lovely warm and friendly pub, a perfect place for really good drinks, with a friendly welcome from very nice staff and has a great atmosphere. Sadly the lunchtime food was less impressive as far as we were concerned but I guess you get what you pay for, it’s very budget friendly, so maybe we were expecting too much for the price, and not everyone would agree with me as the place was packed on a Friday lunchtime with happy diners. We really like this pub but would probably drink there and eat elsewhere nect time.

Planned visit due to military background. Ordered food and waited, and waited, and waited. Other customers walked out. Finally our sandwiches/toasties arrived. They had obviously been warmed up via the microwave and were a real test on the teeth, due to being rock hard. Had we not already waited over an hour we would have sent them back. Totally disappointed will not return 😕

Worth a look, has a comprehensive range of items

Why only two stars? Well everything was very good apart from I don't like being fleeced. Beer - £3 pint including 49p duty Pepsi Max - £3.60 pint - no duty Pepsi Max - £2.70 1/2pint or £5.40 pint - no duty I call that a complete rip off, and whilst I otherwise had a nice time I don't think I'll be coming back on a regular basis to be gouged like that. Edit. Thank you for your reply. I will be contacting Marston's. However, can I ask if you will be talking to Marston's yourselves to express an opinion on the prices or are you happy with them and think them fair?

We came with friends 6 friends for our Christmas Lunch. We all had a fabulous time. The staff were very attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious and so much of it. Plus the price was so reasonable We will certainly go back and need the thank David and Paul plus the bar staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

Worst meal I have ever had in my life today 29th Nov. We had the steak pie Chips and gravy. Supposed to be short crust pastry . It had obviously been microwaved to warm it up. Pastry was as tough as old boots difficult to cut with the knife Peas cold and half the chips were Luke warm. Hubby complained to the bar Maid who said she would speak to the chef. No feedback from her what's so ever just walked past us to the bar to resume her work after coming from the kitchen. So hubby said on the way out no answer then from the chef she totally ignored him. Would never go there again for food and I suggest no one else does either. It was total rubbish. X

Lovely evening in a relaxing atmosphere. Very good customer service and a good variety of drinks at a reasonable price.

Didn't eat here, I'm afraid, but we did go for the live music... which was brilliant. They played a massive variety of music to cater to every age group. Plenty of Staffordshire Regiment memorabilia, which I found mega with being a "Stokie".. Great crowd of people all enjoying their night.

Called in for a bite to eat, on a visit to Lichfield, with two hungry children and was far from disappointed. The staff were friendly and professional, with nothing being too much trouble for them. They were very clued up when I asked them about allergen information, as my Grandson has a peanut allergy. The food was lovely, plentiful and came out hot and served on warm plates and very reasonably priced. After lunch I asked if there were any baby change facilities, to which I was handed a key to the disabled toilet. Inside I found an extremely clean and tidy room which was well equipped with what was needed. Thank you for a great experience. We will definitely return

This establishment should stop serving food, the worst burger of my entire life, on top of that they dare to call it the king burger...

Great food very reasonable prices. Always piping hot with a lot to choose from. Sell my favourite beer too, Neck Oil
