The Langton in Cheltenham

We came to celebrate my mother’s 80th Birthday, everyone had a fabulous time, food was great, service was excellent t and cheerful. Thank-you for helping make a special occasion extra special.

This was our 9th Christmas lunch at The Langton. I think the fact that we keep coming back year after year says it all - the booking process is good, the atmosphere on the day is lovely, the food is tasty and the staff is lovely and cheerful.

Wonderful staff who made my access via a mobility scooter so easy and ensured I felt safe too.

Booked our Xmas party here and wasn't disappointed. The staff where attentive, the food from the Xmas menu was really tasty and all 8 of us had a great night. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Christmas get together between friends and family. On arrival we found the 2 young gentlemen behind the bar very friendly and polite. Our meal was excellent, tasty and fresh. The staff served it with a smile and some banter. Really enjoyed the experience. Will certainly be back and happy to recommend to others. Hope Father Christmas is good to you all.

Delicious food in a calm cosy interior

Not a great 1st visit for a festive menu I would not return

Avoid 1st and last visit for a meal that was not great cold restaurant we where sat by a radiator that was off did not have the drink we asked for then choice of starters included scallops none available I asked for my festive lunch to be served on a hot plate sent it straight back as cool plate arrived with 2 slices of turkey 3 soggy roast potatoes under the meat 1 carrot 1 parsnip 1 pig in blanket 1 stuffing ball this was what was on both our plates all served by miserable staff and I think cooked by a cook not a chef avoid and have your Christmas lunch elsewhere as better places to go finally asked did we enjoy no not at a cost of £70.00 odd pounds for kids sized portions also staff looked very scruffy

Took ages to be served and then fed. The food was luke warm, the venue wasn’t very warm either. Finally my food, the salmon special, was bland. And this was in a restaurant that was t particularly busy.

Just back from another dinner at The Langton and can still taste the great food. I was fortunate to arrive early and this meant that I was welcomed by the excellent, Tom, a walking commercial for the restaurant. His customer service knows no bounds. Tom placed me into the capable hands of the friendly, courteous and helpful Charlie. Somewhat nervous about the flavour of the lamb, when I asked for Charlie's advice his description was reassuring and proved to perfect. It's great when a waiter knows the food on the menu. The butternut squash soup, the perfectly cooked lamb and the delicious Sicilian lemon tart made for a fantastic meal. This was a lovely evening in this fine restaurant. Thank you, Charlie and Tom, and well done to the kitchen team

Yesterday my friend and myself went out for lunch… live in Prestbury but decided we would head to the Langton as it has become one of our favourites. We both ordered the fish and chips… oh dear I could only eat 2 chips the whole plate was filled with bottom of the pan greasy burnt ends. The fish was not to the usual standards… we both left a lot. The young man who collected the plates apologised and said it was not their usual standards. When we came to pay… I asked if it had been fed back… the young man confirmed to the server and she kindly removed from the bill. So hope it was just an off day… lunch spoilt but I love this place.

The Langton was recommended by my AIRBNB host. I called in advance to make sure there was parking and I could get a seat, Charlie confirmed both. Lively atmosphere as there was a large group in the pub. Ordered off the specials Sausage and mash with Onion Rings a bit unusual but lovely. The food was hot, tasty and plentiful. Well worth a visit if you're in Cheltenham.

Excellent Sunday lunch: good food and good service. Booked at last minute!

I’d wanted to dine at the Langton for a long time so decided to book a table to celebrate my 30th birthday for around 12 of us. I felt disappointed as no one made reference to the fact it was my birthday and the staff didn’t seem overly friendly or knowledgeable. My partner informed the waitress he had a fish/seafood allergy and said he’d be ordering the chicken anyway. However, she still gave him a tablet and told him it would let him know which dishes he could have and then left. But, it was no different to the regular menu, as the options included fish dishes such as a prawn starter and prawn/crab linguine dish? When drinks were ordered, someone asked for a Malibu and coke to which the waitress was unsure if you served it. So instead we ordered bottles of wine, beers and 2 soft drinks for the children (a coke and a lemonade). When our mains came, no one checked back at the table, mine and my partners half rotisserie chicken was very dry which was disappointing. I left most of the chicken because of this but when my plate was cleared, the waitress made no reference. I was feeling a little let down by the whole experience so far so I decided not to comment as I didn’t see the point. When we’d finished our mains we debated ordered desserts. Some options sounded really nice and I’d been excited to try one. However, after a lack of communication from the waiting staff and already feeling a bit disappointed, we decided to just order desserts for the 2 children and have the birthday cake my partner brought in instead. My 8 year old niece then said she felt unwell so I moved her drink to pour her some water. When I went to move her drink, I could smell Malibu. There was still some drink in the glass so I tried it and it was indeed, a Malibu and coke. It was then we all realised she had been served Malibu and coke, not a child’s coke which we had asked for and what was handed over and stated when given at the table. I honestly couldn’t believe it and do not understand how this mix up had happened. After speaking to the manager who confirmed it had been put on the bill and was a Malibu and coke, she was apologetic for the mix up and stated that a disciplinary meeting would take place. 20% was taken off the bill but we all left feeling confused, disappointed and underwhelmed by the whole evening and what had happened.

Tasty pate on focaccia bread followed by lamb steaks. Charming service.

I have just had a most pleasant evening at The Langton, What do we want when we visit a restaurant? Its' quite simple: great food and equally great service. The Langton succeeds. Chelsea and Tom made me welcome, treated me with friendliness and courtesy and demonstrated all that is good about table service. They were attentive, helpful and charming and knew the menu so well that they were able to help my decision making. The special, a delightful rotisserie chicken dish, came highly recommended and it lived up the descriptions. This is definitely an establishment to visit. Tony Kiely

Cannot fault the food! Delicious

We had a lovely Sunday Lunch, it’s was very busy but it was a welcoming environment. Fire in the bar area lots of people chatting and enjoying drinks and Sunday lunch out. There is some work being done on the exterior of the building but it had no effect on our comfort where we were sitting. We were on a weekend break in Gloucester and had this place as a recommendation. The food was exceptionally good and good value x good amount choice on the menu and we were asked it there were any diet or allergy restrictions. It was a wet and windy Sunday but there was good parking and the garden area wasn’t being used but on booking it would appear that in better weather outdoor dining is an option.

What a lovely experience we had,this evening, the meal was excellent alongside the desert choice , the member of staff Tom, had excellent manners, polite, and friendly, excellent service, we will be returning some time soon

On this, my first visit, I was stunned by the internal beauty of the building. The external building works are cleverly detached from the interior. I was greeted, and subsequently looked after, by Tom who demonstrated customer service at its best. He was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. His service was impeccable and this was matched by the three courses I selected for dinner. All were prepared, presented and served perfectly. Tom's wine knowledge was impressive. I am so glad that I decided to take a night off from the hotel where I was staying, just for a change. I am now checking my diary to book again. Thank you, Tom, for your excellence.

Very poor menu choice four items requested and not available. Ordered a side of Nocellara olives, sadly served cheap option of jar olives not even fresh. Standards have significantly slipped since visiting last …. Shan’t be going again. Much better options elsewhere.

Stopped in for lunch. Wonderful old building in a nice setting, although it was currently going under reformation. Certainly worth a visit.

We’ve been using The Langton for a while and it has become a firm favourite. The food is excellent; the service is first rate, with the staff being very efficient and so friendly at the same time. The decor is nice, comfortable seats in the bar area and the restaurant always looks good, very inviting. As I said, the food is excellent. I can confidently say that it is the best steak in Cheltenham. I have the fillet medium/rare and it is absolutely perfect every time. Starters are good and the desserts are too. It’s a lovely place, plenty of room even when it’s busy. It’s got a good drinks selection, and it’s not expensive. In all, 10/10 every time.

The venue was for a private function for a wake following the funeral of my stepmother in Cheltenham. Obviously quite an upsetting time with all the family present. We had travelled 7 hours, and had to bring our dog as it was school holiday season and we were unable to get dog care at short notice. The website said it was dog friendly in the bar, but not the restaurant.Our dog is well behaved. We felt reassured that it would be ok only to be told we had to leave the private function room as that was not dog friendly! All the family were happy for our dog to be present, it was very hot so we couldn't leave him outside in the car. No members of the public were going to be in the function room I really felt that the management were uncompromising given the circumstances and the situation was very upsetting for me and other family members. Buffet food and drinks were satisfactory.

One of the best Sunday roasts I have had in ages. Every element had flavour. Chicken fell off the bone. My wife had to stop me from drinking the leftover gravy from the jug.

Came in for a couple of drink with friends, staff was very polite and overall a very nice vibe to the place, I will definitely be coming back!

I Had the squid and rib eye steak which was good, however my wife is a vegetarian and chose the margeritta pizza, she had to send this back as it was nothing like a margeritta, i've ever seen in my life, mainly tomato with a sprinkling of cheese, it took 15 minutes to replace, so i'd finished my main meal before it arrived

Had a lovely meal there. Price to portion was excellent as was the quality of the food. Great welcome and service and the restaurent has a very sophisticated decor.

The food is excellent and the beer is always chilled. The staff are all lovely as well. Very friendly atmosphere.

Very nice place for a Sunday roast

Visited in early August 2024 - two of us dined, and then had drinks out on the terrace. The food far exceeded my expectations - both the scallops and the lamb were superb. They were very conscientious regarding my food allergies. The service was very good. One minor hiccup re: them swapping my vegetables for some other vegetables (allergies!) but this was resolved fairly quickly with the minimum of fuss. And... they have ample car parking including a good number of disabled parking spaces. Will definitely return!

Fabulous Sunday Lunch out of the terrace! Beautiful surroundings and great food. Perfect sticky toffee pudding from the comfort of the inside lounge.

This was only my second time here but won't be my last. I met with a friend for lunch as a convenient mid-way point. We were given a warm welcome, and it was obvious that someo0ne had actually READ my online request for a table by the window. The food was superb, (I hope you still have this scallops on the menu when I return), delicious and beautifully presented. Even when I inadvertently managed to smash my wine glass, it was cleared away with minimal fuss and the wine replaced, gratis. Thank you! Such a great experience that I thought that a gift card for your establishment for my daughter's birthday would make an ideal present. I cannot recommend you highly enough, and have already made plans for my friend and I to meet here in future, and suggested to another that we also need to come. Hubby is on standby to bring me back in the next couple of weeks, too. Thank you and your lovely staff for a very pleasant lunch.

My partner and I held our intimate wedding reception in Langton with close family and friends. We are so grateful for the staffs that catered to all our needs and they honestly made the whole thing as stress-free and flawless as possible. The only disappointment I have is that I forgot to take the 3 ladies names so I can provide exceptional feedback to their service. They were amazing! Thank you Langton for making our wedding reception perfect! All our guests loved the venue, food and the ambiance ❤️❤️❤️

Just visited and was pleasantly surprised to see such a varied menu and a great selection for Sunday roast options, we had the trio of roast option and it was without doubt the best Sunday roast meal I ever had.. presented beautifully, huge portions cooked to perfection, beef, chicken and pork insanely tender and great crackling.. bread sauce was delicious and the roast potatoes were to die for... and all delivered to the table minutes after placing the order...fantastic place, fantastic food fantastic staff...

Smart venue. Welcoming, attentive staff. Huge menu with plenty of choice. Good kitchen delivering well presented tasty dishes. Reasonable value at its price point. The menu is too big, with too many choices to be realistic. Makes it impossible for everything to be fresh or even frozen. Would prefer a menu half the size, which would still be lots of choice, with more focus on the most popular and effective dishes

Beautiful place although under scaffold right now, once inside you forget that. Great service, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Will be returning.

This was our first visit. We needed a lunch venue equidistant from east and eest of England, to meet up with relatives We were a party of 6 including elderly parents. Enjoyed everything, great service, enjoyable food, lunch set menu was a well priced. We especially liked being able to have a small dessert with a coffee as part of the set menu

Visited for lunch on my birthday, although actually it’s always our first choice for a good, local meal out. Great service & lovely food & cocktails today with a table in the sunny garden.

We were given a voucher for a meal here and had not been for a few years as had gone downhill. However we were very impressed with the service, one lady in particular went out of her way to help us. I cannot eat spicy or fried food since having my gall bladder out and usually have plain chicken or baked cod, no batter, with a salad but nothing on the menu like that, but she offered to do it when I explained. My husband had the cod and chips and he said it was excellent, only problem a large portion and couldn’t eat all the chips😢. He choose the ice cream and cookies dessert which looked yummy. I had the small dessert Brûlée and coffee . We then asked about taking home the trio of desserts as still money left on the coupon, for tea and they adapted that for us as difficult to do the brûlée to take home. Can’t thank them enough. Really enjoyed our meal and impressed with the service we received. Would recommend. Thank you for all your help.

We had a very nice meal here. I had a chicken liver parfait for my starter, which was delicious, and cod and chips for my main course, also excellent. The batter on the cod was wonderfully light and crispy, and the chips were top quality. Mrs Maximus had the fillet steak, which she tells me was also excellent. The service was a bit ad hoc. The staff were perfectly friendly, but clearly there weren't enough of them and they were struggling a bit, and a couple of times we had to ask for things twice as it became apparent that they'd forgotten the first time round. It was quite rowdy and we found it difficult to hear each other speak. To be fair, that was on a Friday night, perhaps it's quieter if you go mid week. One plus point is that there is plenty of free parking if you're getting there by car.

We were recommended to look at the Langton for a small family and friends lunch to celebrate our wedding - and we weren't disappointed. We met with the staff to discuss what we were looking for and they couldn't of been more helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The venue itself is stylish and well laid out - there was an annex area off the restaurant which accommodated our party perfectly and provided a well laid out, private area. The menu choices were varied and excellent - our guests provided us with their selections and we provided the Langton with a pre-order 7 days before the lunch. There was a variety of selections but all the food was of very high quality, came out piping hot and at the same time. They were very helpful with the arrangements - setting up our tables with flowers and place settings. On the day, the staff were warm and welcoming - we received excellent, efficient and friendly service from all of them. The food itself was amazing and all our guests commented on the high standard and how much they enjoyed it. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Langton - 10 /10 for us!

Very nice Sunday roast and fish & chips. I visited the Langton with my wife and father-in-law. We all said our lovely our food was and the venue was nice. Staff were great, friendly and quick.

We had an excellent birthday party today with 14 of us in a room on the side with real coal/wood fire! Food was great and service by Kym was super. Definitely be back.

The interior design and colours make this place look beautiful! The outdoor area is lovely the food great and the service was great too.

I used to go there and really liked the restaurant up to 2 years ago but the portions are getting smaller and smaller. The service is too slow. Atmosphere is strained with overhearing other people’s conversations. A bit of music could help? Not going back.

The building and the restaurant look great, and the £100 for 3 courses and wine for 2 people was very good value, with a good selection on the menu, and the quality of the food was great. It was a bit of a shame it was so empty, so didn't have much of an atmosphere.

A delicious late lunch yesterday - goats cheese and beetroot starter, fish cakes and mini desserts and coffee to finish. Every element tasted excellent, the food came quickly and was attentively served by Uga, our Lithuanian server. The ambience was very pleasant. Would definitely recommend, and plan to go again!

Disgraceful service! I ordered two glasses of wine and paid at the bar, took my drinks outside and the bar man came shortly after with his card machine saying really loudly ‘it’s not free mate!’ After i opened up my online banking and showed him the transaction, he stormed back off only to come out 5 mins later to say ‘sorry, it hasn’t updated on my key card!’ £18 for two small glasses of Gavi! I’d like to add I come in every Wednesday pretty much Not impressed, won’t be back!

The place looked great and the staff were excellent. To top it all the food was delicious. Couldn't fault the experience.

Really lovely pub in the heart of Charlton Kings. Food was excellent and the surroundings are clean and stylishly decorated. As two of us are coeliac we were very impressed with the range of options available. Staff were very well informed of the allergens and were extremely helpful. The food arrived quickly and was beautifully cooked, we had the burger (adapted with gf bread), belly pork with scallops and the non coeliac had a delicious looking cod and chips. We will definitely be back!

The food,wine cocktails and dessert was top drawer and very good value for money. Service was friendly and fun even during a busy period. We will dine with you again

Party of 18 guests (17 adults and 1 baby) attended for a celebratory lunch. Could not fault anything really - food, drinks, service and location were ideal. Only comment would be that the Yorkshire puddings that accompanied the roast meals weren’t the best - too crispy but we didn’t mind as the rest of the food was absolutely perfect. Thank you all and to our waitress Kim. We had a great time and will definitely return.

Very enjoyable mini family dinner for 16. Tor was very helpful arranging everything beforehand and the day of the event. Then our server, Damion, was extremely attentive to everyone's requests without interrupting us every 5 minutes. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely evening served by Kym ,we think couldn’t read the writing 100%, but 100% on service and care. Attentive but not in your face food was excellent and enjoyed the setting and ambiance of the setting. Looking forward to create the excuse for the next visit. Also I thought really reasonable on pricing for what you get. We’ll be back.

Food was cold and veg overcooked and soggy. Cauliflower cheese was really just mashed cauliflower - little to no actual cheese? Very noisy loud table of children directly behind us but the rest of the restaurant was fairly empty. Could have been placed elsewhere. Disappointed as a lot of people have recommended the Langton to us, however we sadly won’t be back again. In and out in 40 minutes - felt very processed.

A very big thank you to Tor and her team for making my son's 50th birthday 'do' so memorable. The food was excellent, service was attentive , and everyone had a fantastic time. Thank you once again xx

Wow, I don't think I've enjoyed a roast dinner this much in years! We arrived at 8pm on a Sunday for dinner as we were visiting the area, and was really surprised to find a roast dinner still available on the menu. I ordered the roast beef and my partner had the fish and chips. I was a bit dubious ordering the roast,as it was so late and thought it would be dried up, but oh my god, it was really delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection and really tasty, I honestly could not fault it, and neither could my partner. I haven't enjoyed a dinner like that for years so would throughly recommend and compliments to the chef, thank you! 😊

A good variety of food. The king prawn, crab, chorizo and scallop linguine was very good. Also the steak and ale pie. We would return again.

Not a place I will be visiting again. The flowers on the table were all very dead, crinkled daffodils. Surely someone should have noticed. They must have been like that for days. The food was ok ish. But potato dauphinoise sat in a gloopy sweet plum sauce was daft. The gravy was cold and I sent it back and the edges if the meat were dry and hard. Pudding was good though - sticky toffee pud with ginger ice cream. I would have liked to have had a g & t which wasn't all ice and all the tonic in.

It was very good, special shout out to Damien our server he went above and beyond making sure everything was ok for us.

Is was my first and last visit It was a joint birthday for two family members they had a plate with a few strawberries and a happy birthday in icing sugar Minimal effort made which was a theme throughout the evening I really expected better for almost £350 for 8 of us with a £30 service charge The host was nice but the service was very slow I was ill after the meal and other family members felt nauseous. I really enjoy good quality food and service the Langton provided neither .

I booked a table well ahead of time to celebrate my sister’s birthday. I stated that it was a birthday celebration and also asked to be seated in the most comfiest seats in the restaurant due to my sister’s mobility issues. On arrival there was no recognition of the celebration or the request for the comfiest seats (I knew from a previous visit they had different types of seating). Instead we were seated at a table with the least comfiest seats and had to ask for one to be brought out from the other part of the restaurant so my sister was too uncomfortable. A helpful staff member did this willingly. (Thank you 👏) Service was swift but the food was mediocre at best. The vegetarian options were limited and the fish served with my sister’s fish and chips was soggy inside - maybe due to the fish previously being frozen? Either way it wasn’t great. As a pescatarian, I was disappointed to see that the fish cakes had chorizo in them so that was off the menu for me. I went for the tempura prawn sandwich which was no more than average. I had chosen the Langton because we have been there for a celebration about 18 months ago and had really enjoyed it and the food had been fabulous at that time. Unfortunately we were let down this time particularly by the food and also a little by the lack of recognition of the celebration we had gone for and this led to the whole experience becoming a little flat. We decided not to stay for dessert, but instead to head home for some home-made birthday cake instead. I’m really disappointed that I didn’t organise my sister’s birthday at a different venue and I’m sad that her day wasn’t as special as It could have been. Unfortunately I’m afraid after our experience this time we definitely won’t be returning to the Langton again any time soon.

I'd not been here for 18 months and was looking forward to it. Sadly, compared to our previous visit we felt things had definitely deteriorated. The service was ok as things were pretty quiet when we arrived. The menu is poor if you're a veggie, but we made do. The carrot and coriander soup was actually very nice, but the mushroom starter could have used a few more, er mushrooms. As the mains menu was so poor my wife had a sandwich, which wasn't terribly nice. My celeriac was ok if rather lacklustre. All in all a very disappointing visit as the food on offer is of the same standard as you can get reheated in any pub, so I doubt we'd bother going back.

I really don't like to write less than great reviews but this time I feel I have to... We went to celebrate my husbands birthday but unfortunately it was a bit too disappointing... I'll start with the good things: the servers were nice and apologetic and the food taste wasn't amazing but wasn't bad... Now the bad bits: the worse of it was the waiting time... the service was excruciatingly slow... the servers were apologetic saying they had a big order, but I don't know where the order came from as the restaurant wasn't that full... as I said before the flavour wasn't too bad but the lamb was quite chewy which surprised me as it's one of their specialities and one of the most expensive dishes on the menu... the deserts took the most to come and the cookie from the kids menu and brownie were both burnt... at that point I didn't make a fuss as I just wanted to get out of there... Unfortunately it was a first and last for us...

I usually get very good service at this restaurant, however i visited on saturday the 9th March, The guy who hosted us through was lovely and got us our drinks, we then got told our server would be over but we were waiting 30 mins and no one came over, I asked a lady (new,broken english, brown - she was mainly just cleaning tables) if she could get our server over so we can order, However she took the initiative and took our order herself, she was ever so polite and very well mannered, she said it was her first day, she took our photos for me and my mum, asked if everything is ok with our meal and got the bill and did the payment for us. Only advice is to maybe ask for gratuity or explain how it works rather than just putting the card reader with the tip option in front of your face especially considering i didn’t actually have a proper server and have had to ask for everything. However i left cash tip which i hope she kept for herself as she was very lovely. Couldn’t fault the food at all.

We had dinner here with family and friends - 6 adults and a child - (need to be able to select both options, Tripadvisor) to celebrate 4 birthdays. We had the most fabulous cocktails, and chose to have the "wine and dine" menu, which was exceptionally good value. The food was very good, as were the wines; starters and main courses were absolutely delicious, although the pavlova that some of us had for dessert was reminiscent of an over-hard shop-bought meringue! The service was great too - with one lovely (blonde) lady gifting a bunch of daffodils to our 3 year old "birthday girl" for International Women's Day as a particularly nice gesture. We all had a fabulous time and will definitely be back, and recommending to others. Thank you, all at the Langton, for giving us a splendid evening.

+ Great atmosphere, location, kind staff, good roast. - The celeriac was really bad. I was offered a replacement, which was at least hot. As it was a special occasion for us (my daughter's 18th), I didn't want to complain again, but the recipe is just poor. A roasted celeriac steak should be at least roasted, right? It was half raw, and even after only eating half of it, it gave me awful stomach ache all evening. A celeriac needs to go in the oven for at least 2-2.5 hours! Went for a family dinner to celebrate a birthday. The staff were very friendly and provided good service. The food was delicious and lots of variety to choose from.

We didn’t feel that we were made to feel very welcome on this our first visit, nor during our time here. The food was acceptable but the service a little slow. I cannot think of we are likely to return.

Nice vibe for a drink on a Friday early evening, but way too expensive for a zero beer!

Food was good Had to wait for my drink I think it had been forgotten Over Charged on bill as we had Valentines Special and this was not taken into account it was a good job that I noticed this but it should not have happened
