Lovely staff, lovely food. Where ever i go i compare them to this plaice, and can't wait to get back to some properly cooked chips. They don't skimp and you definitely get your moneys worth. I only hate it when they have their Xmas break( a well deserved break). I go almost every week. Wish I could cook them as well as they do.

I’ve tried the rest now stick with the best. This is the best around and is always busy with regular local returning customers. This is for good reason and well earned reputation. Always spotlessly clean. I travel over 5 to this establishment passing many inferior fish & chip shops along the way. Top quality products all cooked fresh to perfection. Staff are both efficient / friendly and enjoy a bit of banta. Go give it a try if you appreciate quality fish & chips you certainly won’t be disappointed ! Always have specials and line caught fish… regularly have local rock / huss. Portions are large and value for the quality you are getting. Cash only…. Thanks and keep doing what you do so well. I asked where was the best fish in Hastings and was told. Took me time to find as not from the area. To have this comparison is a proper compliment. The best fish and chip shop in my home town and known the best too. Mr light house matches. Damn good fish and chips. Priced well considering in camber double and not as good. Oil changed regularly as my other fav. Chips and fish this your gem find. Was mine. Review took ages as couldn’t remember the name of shop. Friendly staff and anytime that way ! Not have breakfast so can enjoy the love made with food. That is different. My new fav chippy. And matches my all time fav for over 30 years. The owner has dimples too. Bonus.

Both the cod and the haddock were excellent, fresh, firm and cooked to order. The chips were probably the best I've had from a chippy, golden and crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Portion sizes are generous. My wife had the OAP portion of haddock and chips and couldn't finish it all. I had the large cod (there was an XL on the menu) and the smallest portion of chips on offer but couldn't finish all the chips despite their quality. That's not something that happens often! The owner was very friendly and chatty. All in all, a great experience.

First and foremost absolutely amazing service, the staff couldn't have been more helpful or kind. The food was delicious, had a couple of different fish, a chicken burger, chips, and a handful of sides and it was all amazing, and at a price you can't complain about. Can't recommend it enough.

Fish and chips is my favourite meal and coming from Yorkshire, I'm pretty demanding, as there are a lot of excellent outlets in Scarborough. When I lived in London, early 70s to early 90s, I found the overall standard very poor and the only two places I would use, in North London, were The Sea Shell in Lisson Grove and Toff's in Muswell Hill; both a fair drive away. I have recently moved to Ore, near Hastings and was happy to read good reviews for many fish and chip shops in the area, but I had some reservation that they may have been judged by 'London' standards! I needn't have worried, if The Lighthouse is anything to go by! Lovely fresh fish in a tasty batter, which although a bit thick for my personal taste, not sufficiently so to warrant a mark-down. My only 'complaint' is that the beautifully-cooked, crisp, medium portion of chips I bought, would have been more than enough to feed three people and I love complaints like that! Icing on the cake is that the service is also very warm and friendly. The Lighthouse is also next-door to the New Chop Suey House, Chinese takeaway, another great find, so I feel a bit like moving here was like dying and going to Heaven. Can't wait to try some of the other highly-rated fish shops in Hastings, although I'm a bit inclined not to tempt providence and stick with The Lighthouse.

My husband got a takeaway last night he placed his order was disappointed when he got him to find that the chicken fillet burger was missing which was for me and was charged for but all I had was chips which were very nice

Best chips I have ever eaten. The wife and I are vegan so like don't like places that cook the fish in with the chips. But here they are cooked separately. Owner was super friendly and very proud of the quality of his product and shop. And deservedly so. Best chips ever.

I like this place. The staff seem to like people so they actually seem pleased to serve customers. The food is amongst the the best I think I have ever had from a chip shop. The portion sizes were good. The food was cooked with obvious pride. The fish was awesome. I definitely recommend to anyone visiting Hastings. Also, if you are at Shear Barn park this is not only your nearest fish and chip shop but also an excellent one. Enjoy!

Very chilled out and friendly plaice. The fish was delicious, batter was crispy and fish was melt in the mouth. Good portion sizes and plenty of salt and vinegar. Would definitely pay a visit again.

Best fish n chips not only in Hastings but the only place I’d go now for a treat. Chips are homegrown and so tasty. Fish is crispy and freshly caught. I’m lucky to have this round the corner!

They're the best fish and chip shop in the town and the banter amongst the staff and between the owner and the public is worth an admission fee. John also has a Christmas tree farm and they're also pure quality. Both businesses are cash only which I love. What can I say apart from the best chippy ever. Everytime we have chippy tea we come to you. Tonight my partners fish was the size of a whale fabulous for the the price, i had spam fritter AMAZING and my daughter had fish cake she said 10 out of 10. Whatever you do to your chips keep doing they are the nicest we've ever eaten. The man who served us was friendly and welcoming will always return.

Came here on the recommendation of long-time Hastings resident with high expectations, and still came away impressed. Wanted fish and chips, but noticed there's also a good selection of burgers here. Dishes are sold as "medium, large, and extra-large" sizes, and those are accurate descriptions. Prices are very reasonable. Carla and John were working the counter, greeting what seemed to be lots of regulars ordering in the shop or picking up phone orders. I asked him about the "battered burger," and wasn't quite sure if it sounded delicious or just weird. Turns out to be a bit like the American diner dish "chicken fried steak" minus the white sauce. Fabulous! So all the items we got were wonderful. The fish were all perfectly cooked, with nothing greasy about them. Same with the potatoes - among the best chips ever. My only suggestion for improvement involves opening a branch in coastal Southern California.

5pm on a Friday night so was very busy as expected . Didn't expect the large cod to be mainly batter . It was far too small. Generous portion of lovely chips . Sausage in batter was OK. Not going to lie , was so disappointed with the size of the piece of fish . Its expensive to buy these days . It was definitely a small . In fact it was like a pensioners portion . Edited review as there's not an option to reply to the chip shops comment.. I don't need to come to talk to you. I was merely saying our large fish was very small . I did say the chips were lovely and sausage ok . What's there to talk about ? You was very busy . No doubt it doesn't happen often . However on this occasion the fish was very very small .

A great Fish and chip shop. Be warned though it is takeaway only ( not sit down) and the fish and chips are cooked to order. John the proprietor knows what he is doing and the fish is superb quality and cooked to perfection. All in all a great fish and chips that deserves great success.

This is the best fish n chip shop by far, the food is amazing, especially the chips I don’t eat meat/fish anymore and was so pleased I could still come enjoy a full meat at my favourite fish n chip shop as they do veggie battered sausage, plus other veggie options ! Staff are always friendly even when busy

We live 10 mins away from this chipie but this was the first time we’d tried it as we usually go down to the seafront. We only had chips but they were perfect but what we loved most was the friendliness of the staff. We didn’t have cash so they let us come back the next day to pay. Also found out they do gluten free and it’s properly cooked separately. Ticks all the boxes. We need to support our fish and chips shops as they are struggling with the cost of electric and gas not to mention food prices. Lots have closed already (though not in Hastings so far).

Really lovely fish and chips - perfectly fried in light crispy batter. They kindly stayed open for us when we arrived right before closing, and fried our fish to order which I wasn’t expecting and made it extra delicious! It’s always hit and miss finding a decent chippy near the coast, we found this one as it was on our way back to our caravan site and had good reviews. Food was freshly cooked so had to wait 10 minutes but that’s a good thing, delicious chips and fish. Only gripe I had was parking was a bit difficult as it’s a busy road, but most of the other customers parked on double yellows outside and appeared to be normal for locals to do this. Very tasty food and polite friendly staff. 👍🏼

Chips was hard, fish was very greasy, curry sauce was like water. Cost was £35.35 for 3 lrg cod, 1 lrg chips, 1 sausage, 1 battered sausage, 2 curry sauces and a portion of onion rings. What a rip off!! This used to be by far the best chippy in hastings don't know whats happened but I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

This place serves the freshest fish you'll find anywhere;- in fact my wife refuses to eat takeaway fish from any other source, because it just doesn't compare. All the ingredients are fresh every day, including the oil;- you never get that old oil smell or taste in this establishment. Portions are generous & keenly priced too, with a wide variety available on the menu. Do yourself a favour & get your fish & chips here, your taste buds will thank you!

Thank you Lighthouse. Excellent meal as always, especially today's Huss - enough for 2 days for me. You kindly cook fish without batter for my husband who is a Coeliac. Not many places do that. Your astonishing memory man is amazing. I just don't know how he does it at such speed with so many customers' orders. You all work so hard.

We used to get fish and chips here all the time But went in tonight and totally wasted £16 on the worst fish I have ever eaten or attempted to eat !! Grey and yellow inside Obviously not fresh. And the batter was really greasy and tasted wrong .The chips were OK Good reviews I saw previously Maybe fresh is for regulars
