Really rude and poor customer service. Went in for a bite to eat today, asked if they had room for two people and were told bluntly ‘no I don’t’. We thought the guy was joking as seats at the window and end of a table feee. Bloke just walked off and left us standing there. No option of waiting for a table, nothing. Safe to say we won’t be going back

We called in for breakfast on a blustery December Sunday morning. The staff were friendly, cheerful and accommodating (unlike me on a Sunday!). Breakfast was excellent, and all from local suppliers. A couple of minor substitutions were no problem. I'd definitely go back and see what else that have on offer.

I’m surprised this place rates at time of writing as only 4.3. It is a straight 5/5 for me and my wife and kids. Perfect food for a slightly chilly November day. Views of the sea area bonus even in this grey climate. Burgers and fish and chips finished off and happy folks all around. Perfect

Nestled right by the sea, The Lyme Bay has mastered the art of combining incredible food with an unforgettable atmosphere. The vibe is warm, relaxed, and inviting. The staff is not only friendly but incredibly attentive - striking the perfect balance of being present without hovering. The outdoor terrace boasts an unobstructed view of the sea. Space heaters and a cozy wood fire pit add to the experience. The Lyme Bay goes above and beyond with thoughtful touches like blankets and hot water bottles, so even a chilly day or evening can be enjoyed in comfort. The music, a well-curated mix that suits the setting, just adds to the overall great vibe. The menu caters to all, with fantastic vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Their gluten-free fish and chips and in-house-made fish fingers never disappoint, and dietary restrictions don’t mean compromising on quality or flavor. Each dish is crafted with care, and you simply can’t go wrong, no matter what you choose. Whether you’re wanting a leisurely breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a drink by the fire, The Lyme Bay will leave you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal.

Large party with a pre booking but reminded of the 2 hours sitting on arrival which always irks me. Service was quick and easy and food took about 20 mins to arrive. We had two Plant burgers which were not very warm, 3 fish finger sandwiches, a smash burger and steak sandwich. Fish fingers are goujons and quite chunky, nice fish but in a door step of sourdough which made them a challenge. Smash burger was very good. Drinks all good but my pint of Gem (ale) was initially heard as ‘pint of gin’ which would have been interesting! Overall it was ok, nothing special and service not included so need to add at the end. For the FF sandwich my advice to Lyme Bay would be to use a brioche bun instead of sourdough (your welcome)

Seated a walk in table for 5 on a Sunday so we were lucky to get a table. Staff were friendly and we were served quickly. Menu looked good we all ordered food for lunch. Couldn't fault the quality of the food however some of portions sizes need to be reviewed. Ordered the haddock burger of the specials £16 and someone else ordered the fish finger sandwich £13. Whilst I couldn't fault the taste and quality. The fish finger sandwich was by far the better meal its a huge sandwich there was more fish in the sandwich which also had chips and side salad compared to the haddock burger with just chips. So I was a little disappointed in this as I paid a premium for a special and I should have gone for the cheaper alternative. No complaints with the linguine or the smash burger all very happy with the food.

Staff really friendly and the location is great! £28 for a hake that was a smaller than a salmon fillet from a supermarket (attached). We complained and were told it’s an expensive fish and that’s how it comes. Would I like a free drink as a gesture of goodwill ? I declined. Fair enough if the dish was priced accordingly.. £28? We ate here on our first night in Lyme. This place has a lovely setting overlooking the bay with lots of outdoor seating for nice evenings. There was a good selection of food which included gluten free options. I opted for the gf fish and chips and hubby went for their burger. Both dishes were tasty, but nothing special. Portion sizes weren’t on the generous side for the price paid - my fish and chips was £18. Service was good at the start, but then became very sparse as (I assume) more people needed serving inside. We eventually went inside to pay as no-one was coming out to see if dessert menus were needed. Not sure why the loos are painted completely black with poor lighting - not a nice experience going to the toilet here. Nice location, but don’t think it’s worth the price paid.

The Lyme Bay a declining restaurant in a declining town. On entering we were frowned upon by the chef, behind the bar in his whites, changing beer at a pump, not the friendliest welcome in the world, he obviously is a chef behind the scene for a reason as greetings is not on the top of his menu. What is on the menu, or the one outside is seagull sh!t, a few days old and caked on, more of it covers the windows looking out, to what should’ve been a great view of the sea. Perhaps the staff might realise that an eatery covered in seagull sh!t is not the most appetising of places. So we decided on just some tea, and when ‘front of house fella’ appears he also frowns when we just ordered tea, telling us that we may have to move in his half full restaurant as more deserving customers may arrive, which he would then award them our table looking out at the beautiful seagull sh!t infested view. 'Yes sure' we replied, thinking it was THE most unfriendly greeting in any restaurant in recent years. Looking more closely around 'The Lyme Bay' it becomes startling clear how dirty the place is, filthy in fact. On the bar an ancient tub of pickled gherkins, grey and insipid, bordering on rotten, were they for real, or is the whole place decaying? However, tea was adequate, if you don't mind it served as hot water and DIY teabag, prices reflective of surroundings. The young waitress friendly and helpful, the only redeeming feature of 'The Lyme Bay'. Shame as the location demands a far better place than this.

I’ve raved about this place before so need to refresh that enthusiasm I have for almost every aspect of this location and the eatery that has become our ‘go to’ choice when in Lyme. ‘Light lunch’ choices abound with simple - almost coincidental - dietary requirements catered for. Much to be said for the location and sea view terrace which also provided weather protection from the elements during these changeable April days. Friendly, warm and accommodating unhurried service. Notable too that the billing does NOT take for granted inclusion of a service charge - which we were only too pleased to ‘tip’ as gratuity for a very pleasurable visit. Top tip for the finger finger sandwich - simply delicious

What a lovely vibe! We decided to go ‘outside’ for the view and we’re sat relatively cozily for a miserable day, with the sides of the outer cover down. We were offered hot water bottles and blankets, which was a nice touch. Our toasted sandwiches were delicious, very filling and certainly a cut above your ‘average’ toastie. The chips were really special too, crispy and hot, probably lethal, but worth it. It was our last meal out, of our holiday and really was much more of a treat than we were expecting. Thank you!
