Warning ⚠️ Do not waste your time trying to book here, called direct and encouraged to using Agoda. Money was taken from the bank then message came saying due to technical problems booking not available, spoke with Lisa who confirmed on site who confirmed problems since last manager did moonlight flit and no login details for the Manners. Also told no breakfast and full refurbishment due in January. No refund and manager put us down as no show. Not impressed and don't waste your time or money here. Mark

We walked along the street in Bakewell to The Manners for an early evening meal on a Thursday. It was pretty quiet inside with one couple eating and two or three people in the bar. The young woman behind the bar was doing a good job of serving and asked us to find a table, have a look at the menu and order at the bar. Despite being quiet the pub felt welcoming and was nicely lit with an attractive wall design. There are rooms, apparently, as for most pubs in Bakewell. The menu had some good pub standards but also some more interesting dishes. No fish & chips, for once but I might have missed that! We ordered a butternut squash risotto for my wife and a trio of sausages with bubble and squeak mash and peas for me. We commented later that the food was excellent. Everything was well presented and really tasty! Full marks to the chef! There was a dessert menu which we were offered but neither of us had room after our main course. Oh, I don't drink Robinson's beers very often but Unicorn was a pleasant pint. All in all a good, 4-stars of a meal! Good service and really nice food. We'd come again, next time we're in the area. With so many pubs doing food in Bakewell, the standard seems to be pretty high. Thanks Tom everyone at The Manners! Nice pub!

Jack provided a warm welcome, and the food was exceptional. I would have awarded a five-star rating across the board, except for the lack of breakfast service and the inconveniently high placement of the bathroom mirror. Despite these minor issues, we will certainly book again. The morning cleaner suggested reserving room 2 next time, as it features a full-length mirror. While the property could benefit from some minor renovations, we were informed that a refurbishment is planned. Definitely worth a visit and stay

Changed bedroom as bed broke when sat on it and television did not work. No side lights either. No problem thankfully as the second bedroom was fine. Luckily no other guests were using it as there are only two bedrooms. Meal in the evening was fine for me but my husband's portion was extremely small. More like a child's portion. Disappointed overall.

Unwelcoming and Disappointing Experience – Avoid This Place !!!! Our experience at Manners Restaurant in Bakewell was incredibly disappointing. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, getting a table was surprisingly difficult, and the staff seemed completely uninterested in welcoming us. We were warned of a “long wait” for food, which felt more like a hint that they’d prefer if we left. After finally being seated, we had to wait over 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order, and that was only after we asked. We couldn’t order drinks at the table, and even a request for tap water took an hour – when it finally arrived, it tasted terrible, as if it hadn’t been properly filtered. To make matters worse, our food experience was abysmal. My friend’s pie was ridiculously small, and my hamburger was easily the driest I’ve ever had. Our appetizer was brought out with the main dishes, and no cutlery was provided, with no indication that we’d need to get it ourselves. It felt like a series of blunders that left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed. Overall, the poor service, unfriendly staff, and low quality of food make this place one to avoid. I would not recommend Manners Restaurant to anyone.

After reading some decent reviews we decided to have dinner at The Manners earlier this week. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. All three members of our party ordered something different and each meal was poor, particularly the pasta which was completely tasteless. All the food lacked seasoning and was very overpriced for what it was. Such a disappointment, we would not recommend to others.

Rating is based on eating at the pub. I believe there has been some recent changes to ownership. The menu has an average selection of food. I was not that impressed by the cost to quality ratio, I have paid the same price for far superior food and would have expected either better quality or cheaper price for the food provided. The food itself was ok, some in our party had burgers and all the buns were hard. I am afraid I could not recommend the food. The pub itself was pleasant and the selection of beers etc fine. Staff were friendly and would go for a drink here.

The Manners is a nice pub with friendly locals. It's recently changed hands. The last time we called the management were in the process of setting up the kitchen, so we just had a drink. This time the kitchen was closed because the chef was off. Hopefully when we return they will have employed a second chef. If the food is as good as the beer and service, it will be five stars.

I recently went here for dinner when visiting Bakewell for a short stay. I chose The Manners based on the good reviews, this was a mistake. The food is very mediocre and certainly not worth the price, I can only assume they are charging a premium due to location. I won’t go into all the food had but an example, a fishcake starter for £8 consisted of a couple of cheap supermarket fishcakes on top of some greenery, no home made produce here. The ‘infamous’ steak and unicorn pie, the filling was fairly good but the pastry top was like cardboard. It was accompanied by lumpy mash potato and a boat full of brown goo which was gravy, apparently. Everyone’s meal in our party of four was distinctly average and extremely overpriced. There are better options in Bakewell.

We were looking forward to such a well reviewed pub. We arrived and the barman barely greeted us. Fair enough, we can cope without an overly warm welcome. It was warm so we thought we’d eat outside. The cushions were stained and the tables sticky. A lovely server came out with the smallest, grubby little sponge and tried to clean it for us. Sadly there was little difference. My husband had a beef pie. Nicely presented but the gravy was like jelly, and appeared to taste and look like granules, which would have been OK were it not for the consistency. He describes it as brown gloop! My BBQ Rack of ribs £18) was nicely presented, and tasted fine. Sadly it was luke warm. We did however love the skin on fries! Made me realise how a welcome and attention to the simple things make all the difference. Judging from reviews, we MUST have caught them on a bad day.

Went for an impromptu lunch here today (1pm ish), received a friendly welcome by young woman behind the bar in a very quiet pub/restaurant. Menu was small (which I generally prefer) but the prices seemed quite high for what was on offer (£18 for a cheeseburger with chips) but thought it could be really good so gave it a go. Food arrived in good time but it really wasn’t great at all. The plate was really badly broken (the rim had massive chips all round the edge - should never have seen service) The cheeseburger itself wasn’t bad but the brioche bun was very crispy, the actual chips (the ones made from potato, not the ceramic ones) were very chewy and tasted like the oil they were fried in could have been past its best. We mentioned the above when asked if everyone was ok. An apology was given. In total £45 for a cheeseburger, chicken burger, 1 pint and a coke seemed incredibly over priced for the quality and experience. Sadly not somewhere I would be able to recommend.
