This place is amazing! Food is top notch. The staff are incredible and they will go out of their way to make you feel welcome

Came here with the family on Christmas Eve. The food was really tasty and the atmosphere was lovely and relaxing. Our dog was made very welcome too! We were struggling to get a taxi due to the time of year, the staff were super friendly and helpful with taxis and transport solutions, they couldn't do enough to make our festive meal out special. I'd highly recommend the Mill Race and hope to visit again soon!

We had booked in advance for our Christmas eve dinner, having looked at the menus & reviews. We weren't disappointed! We had one coeliac, & one vegan in our group, so we're used to presenting chefs with a challenge, but they rose to it well, and presented us all with fantastic platters, in. Timely fashion. Being Christmas Eve, we were faced with another challenge in how to get back to our little festive air BnB. The managers, & staff, really went the extra mile, in looking after us, to ensure we got home, when local taxis were hard to find. We love this place!

Very poor service. Avoid at all costs. Lots of other great local pubs in the area. Told to leave our table immediately as another group had booked the table. Very rude staff and manager. Such as shame especially as we are locals. Will not be returning anytime soon

This pub is wonderful. We had multiple great beers and G&Ts and my steak was delicious. Lovely social atmosphere and cosy vibes. Most importantly the staff are just amazing! Every person who worked there was friendly, helpful and made sure we had a lovely evening, even got a great group photo for us. Plus a huge bonus that it's dog-friendly. Highly recommend ❤️

Food was EXCELLENT. We had the soup and roast beef which was beautiful and medium rare 😋 cooked to perfection. The roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and veg were superb. Another point which must be made was the EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE received as nothing was too much trouble and everyone went out of their way to help 😀. Bravo 👏 👍 Ten out of ten

We had a gorgeous Sunday dinner, the beef was cooked perfectly with an enormous Yorkshire pudding. Despite being very busy the service was excellent. Will definitely be going back.

Food was ok.. following the reviews we were excited to eat here but unfortunately wouldn’t come back for food.. on the other hand; the waitress/barmaid was very welcoming, was attentive to us the whole evening, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely return for drinks!

What a fantastic place! We came here for a Sunday roast after looking at several different options in the Wye Valley and we are so glad we chose The Mill Race. The service was amazing; it was very welcoming, lighthearted and friendly. The food was excellent and we all left feeling very full. If you are in the area, I highly recommend. We'll definitely be back!

Staff are so kind! Opportunity to donate to the armed forces for a cute poppy. Kid menu needs a bit of rewording. Not sure who would like to eat fresh CHILDREN PASTA! Apart from that amazing meal super good pricing so if you go here you will not regret!

Food was ok but not best I've tasted. Yorkshires a bit rubbery and beef was grisly. Lots of young servers which is fine but need better training. Poor attention detail. We weren't offered drinks on arrival, had to ask for them when we ordered our food, asked for water which was brought in a jug but no glasses, no spoons for desserts brought - had to ask. But worst was the server managed to pour gravy all over one of our party. He was very apologetic and embarrassed and these things happen but they are more likely to happen when carrying 2 plates of food with only one cloth. Invest in more cloths and you'll reduce that problem. Sadly won't bother returning.

We had a very good Sunday roast, the options were all very tempting, and what we had was very good, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was lovely, we will be returning in the future, good local produce is want to want.

Booked for Sunday lunch when we arrived 10 minutes before booked time was told our table was in use! Became available after about 20-25 minutes. Ordered starter and main long wait for starter and an even longer wait for mains. When mains arrived mine was cold had to be sent back. Decided not to stay for a desert. Not impressed, would not recommend for a Sunday lunch,

Our local place, great staff amazing food and atmosphere, Sunday lunch is a must but ring to book first. Pizza night is the first Wednesday of the month and delicious, cooked in a proper wood fired pizza oven, the fried onions and brie bites are beyond delicious. The daily menus offer something for everyone and if you need something special just ask the team.

Sunday lunch. It’s always been good in the past but was a let down today. My wife and mother in law found that the Yorkshire puddings were very leathery and difficult to cut. The waiter did his best and got another equally leathery one from the kitchen. He then said: ‘it’s the way that they are cooked’ before offering a sharp knife to help cut them up. On the bright side: the beef was very tender and the horseradish was lovely

Excellent food, lovely young waiter who I think was called Will and lovely landlady. To the people who have stolen her wine glasses in the past, come on bring them back. Fabulous atmosphere, have eaten here twice now and would not hesitate to recommend and look forward to visiting again.

A great pub with a good range of local beers and ciders. Last time we ate there it was lovely. Definitely worth visiting.

Lovely group meal for a significant birthday - lovely food, friendly service and a warm atmosphere.

We stopped here for lunch after an exhilarating walk in the forest. The Mill Race Village Pub is on the main road in Walford. It is a fairly large establishment with an airy dining room. It was quite busy on a Friday lunchtime with at least 20 people eating inside. A smiley lady named Gosia took our orders. We had Steak Frites, onion rings, fried egg with Peppercorn sauce and one Steak and Ale pie. All food here is cooked to order from scratch with seasonal local produce. Therefore it takes 20+ minutes for the food to arrive but it is certainly worth the wait. The steak was cooked just right and the peppercorn sauce was thick and spicy. The steak and ale pie was steaming on opening the crust and was very tasty. Accompanying rosemary carrots, beans and braised red cabbage were good too. A homemade sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream sprinkled with crunchy caramel honeycomb was simply divine. No wonder so many people were having their lunch here.

We were recommended to visit The Mill Race whilst on holiday, so glad we stopped in for lunch as the food and service were brilliant! Staff were friendly and chatty, very helpful. Great gluten free options available. Had steak frites and the steak was cooked to perfection. Our only disappointment is that we stopped here on our last day, if we knew how lovely it was we would have come again for a dinner.

We just had Sunday lunch at the Mill Race, and can honestly say it was fantastic, they were very busy but still made time to make us feel welcome. the food was excellent (exceptional gravy) and very good value considering the quality. I would absolutely recommend The Mill Race and hope to go again while I'm here on holiday. Ali & Matt

Delicious food and amazing waiting staff.

We visited here with a group of 16 and it was fantastic! We pre-ordered our food due to the size of the group but on the day several people changed their minds. The wonderful staff couldn’t have been more adaptable and kind to make sure everyone was happy. The food was as good as you’ll find at any pub anywhere in the country. High quality, perfectly cooked and delicious. Would 100% recommend.

Beautiful, we had family stay over from Cheltenham the previous night for a party and they wanted to have Sunday lunch with us before they left. The food was amazing! And the mother-in-law was impressed so congratulations on that achievement! 😄

OMG 😍 The team at The Mill Race - Walford, Ross on Wye. Have done themselves proud once again. The food was absolutely beautifully cooked with an explosion of flavours that all complemented each other perfectly, Fresh local produce at its best ! The staff where working there socks off as where the kitchen team all working well as a team it was seamless. The service was brilliant even though they had two new waitresses on you wouldn't have known, the pub was warm clean and comfortable as always, and well I think this is absolutely in the top 2 if not the best Sunday dinner in Ross and I'd go as far as the uk Nice one Team Mill Race.

What a totally brilliant and lovely pub. The staff were so welcoming and every little detail has been thought of. The food was delicious too - couldn't have been better. We are a family of 4 with young children who charged about a bit and felt very welcome and like nothing was too much bother - what a great place.

The food was lovely just a little sparce for the cost, a bowl of seasonal veg would have made a big difference, beef shin needed more sauce. Staff were very friendly, great atmosphere. Shame they ran out of baileys ! Would recommend a visit

Don't know why we couldn't put drinks on the tab at the start, Tab was for the food, but had to pay for the drinks as we went along. Then late comers had theirs put on the tab and from then on it all went on the tab Why??

Only stopped for a quick lunch on a Tuesday. The restaurant area was very busy but, as we were only having sandwiches, we sat outside. The service was friendly and the beer was good. A decent choice of sandwich fillings.

We had such a wonderful evening at The Mill Race! The staff were so helpful, the food was gorgeous and we were able to celebrate a family birthday in a relaxed and happy way. Big thanks to Gosia, Ashley and Julie for being brilliant!!

My husband and I have just enjoyed a superb anniversary meal here. We could not recommend it highly enough. Wonderful

A great place to eat a reasonable size menue choice ( langasteins were completely sold out on our visit) 4 of eat together with bread and oil balsamic dip along with garlic and oil starter mains Kofta, hunters chicken, local 8 ounce ring sausage, and 8 ounce gamon with 2eggs all with chips and onion rings. Mains were so plentiful no Rome for sweets. If we are in area again will definitely re book a visit. Would recommend to all when in the Forest of Dean area.

Booked online fast and easy service was superb friendly the food was good the only thing that let it down was the roast potatoes as they were what I would say the aunt Bessie ones very thing else was homemade so I personally don't understand the potatoes not being and honestly if they were home made fresh it would be hard to find a better Sundays roast as all else was delicious

Lovely sat in the sun, think they were a little stressed, service was a little slow, but there was a lot of people socially distanced. UPDATE 27/523 still a great place. Food very good, nice out in the sun. Staff also great. Making a real effort running the place.

Lovely little wedding venue. Staff where friendly and helpful . Food was well presented and good portions. Nice little beer garden at the rear of the building with plenty of parking.

Stopped here after Malvern Spring Show and they found room for us. Had a fabulous steak just as I had requested, staff were fabulous and couldn't have been friendlier.

Fantastic country pub, wonderful hospitality, really great food - everyone in our party of eight were incredibly satisfied with their meal, clearly thoughtfully prepared and cooked. The puddings were lovely. My only slight negative comment would be the coke was fairly flat, but this is a minor issue and we were given a replacement. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wishing to have a pub meal with family or friends. 👍

With a combination of picturesque venue, friendly staff, and fantastic food, this is one of our favourite places to spend an evening. The new menu is just as fantastic as the summer one, the prices are very reasonable, and there are great choices for those with alternative dietary needs.

Lovely staff, but the place was lacking in atmosphere. Food was overpriced for what it was. We had heard good things, but it did not live up to expectations.

After a lovely day on the river wye, we came to this place. Food was cooked to perfection! I had the beef burger which was pure beef and fresh veg, my partner had the chicken breast which again, cooked perfectly. Really polite and friendly staff who were always on hand. Exceptional! Possibly the best pub meal I've ever eaten, even the chunky chips, and we usually hate chunky chips, were perfect. Crispy onion rings that tasted of onion and weren't just a stodgy mess. Wonderful beef in the burger. Do yourself a favour and go out of your way to experience the joys of the mill race.

We visited this delightful local restaurant mid week and were greeted by friendly staff. We were a party of 4 with very different tastes but we all chose starters mains and desserts from a great menu! Delicious and unusual starters, salads and good risotto and dressings, seasoning etc. we finished with ice creams and sorbets just perfect for a summers day! Definitely the first visit of many!!

10/10 experience. We booked online which was super fast and easy. Staff were all super friendly even making a fuss of our little dog and giving him biscuits. The food was delicious and excellent quality. One of the best meals out we’ve had in while. Highly recommend!

Excellent recommendation by Alastair Sawday. We had a delicious dinner starting with Caesar salad with anchovies followed by pan fried hake with prawn bisque melt in the mouth spring greens and new potatoes and finally amazing vegan chocolate torte with raspberry sorbet. The landlady, landlord and their team were friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and effective. A delightful evening and we will aim to return.

Very expensive way to buy grease. Worst meal I’ve had in months. Including my weetabix breakfasts. £17 for a Wetherspoons-style burger. Great beer though. And nice waiters

Nice pub with good beers. The food was good but the only thing I didn't like was having my meal served on a wooden chopping board with the chips served in a metal bucket and the remoulade served in a little pot. There is nothing wrong with a plate and there would be less washing up.
