The New Cafe in West Lothian

Ordered a latte, flat white and cappuccino- all served in same cups and all tasted the same Cheesecake bland and not worth the money No breakfasts available at noon No rush to go back

this cafe is amazing they give u a free chocolate heart and free water! the service is mind blowing on how nice they are, I love this cafe and I'm definitely coming back!

A great little cafe, providing sit in and takeaway meals. Staff are always friendly and the facilities are kept clean. Reasonably priced and plenty of choice on the menu.

For a no frills cafe this was surprisingly good and half the price of others. Nice coffee, Mac'n'cheese was cheesy and creamy and tasty chips. 😀

The place was cold inside. There was only 1 other customer apart from my wife and I yet the lady still managed to take the order wrong. The food was the perfect temperature but had been microwaved too long, dry beans, tattie scone like a brick and the toast not toasted..We have used this cafe for years but sad to say the next time we will spend our £20 elsewhere..

Im a regular when Im in West Calder!

A first visit to the cafe since the refurbishment. The reconfigured layout seems much more spacious and lighter inside. This leads to an improved customer experience. Service was fast, my BLT was tasty although the accompanying salad lacked inspiration and would have been lifted by some vinaigrette. My companion thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, a comprehensive serving of bacon, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, tomato, black pudding, sausage etc. West Calder is hardly a tourist destination as may be the case in Edinburgh or Linlithgow and the prices reflect that by being reasonable in comparison. A straightforward offering, but a very pleasant experience which we would be happy to repeat.

Asked soup of the day he said lentil then brought chicken soup out of a tin cold coffee won't be back dreadfull

Very friendly, helpful staff. Nicely managed cafe with nice choice of food at a reasonable price. Good for just a quick drink or a proper lunch. Happy to recommend.

Best chicken curry rice and chips out all the cafes in West Calder. Nice wee place to sit in and get food . They deliver too . They also do fantastic wee cakes

A table was being cleared as we entered so we sat at it. The young lady serving asked if we wanted it wiped - it had beans on it. Food took ages, was lukewarm, had to ask twice for tea, one pit was lukewarm by the time it arrived. Staff members very young, no one in charge, won’t be back.

Lovely breakfast friendly staff can't fault it

Visited here last week for the first time in many years and we had a lovely lunch. Great value for money and great/friendly staff.

A lovely, nicely laid out cafe. The food is good and tasty and good sized portions. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. Try the Empire biscuits they are exquisite and appear to be homemade.

I called in 26th May straight off the train feeling extremely exhausted and harassed. To be greeted by some of the most friendly and helpful staff I have pleasure to come in contact in quite some time. I ordered a breakfast and a black coffee both where outstanding. They also give me information about finding a taxi when one of the staff went around the corner to see if they are available. I would highly recommend this establishment. Also just want to take this opportunity to say thank you for your help.

Very nice cafe and lovely staff

This cafe has just re-opened after refurbishment and the overall look of the place is great, there are booths as well as tables which gives the place a bit of a diner feel. I had the full breakfast which comprise bacon, link and square sausage, haggis, black pudding, tattie scone, beans and egg and also came with with 2 slices of toast. The quality of the food was very good, I polished off everything. That, along with a pot of tea was £9.50, which is great value for money. The service was also very good.

Looking for a quick bite and spotted the New Cafe. It looked ordinary from the outside but when I went in it was packed so maybe it wasn't too bad after all. That was an understatement, because the minestrone soup was extraordinarily good. I did tell the nice lady who made it. Service was cheerful and the staff very helpful.

Amazing food and even better customer service! The amazing woman who served us, didn't manage to catch her name but she had purple hair, was so friendly, bubbly and made us feel right at home. The food was astounding and everything was cooked perfectly. Honestly if you're wanting a plate of wonderful homemade food, friendly staff and a chill atmosphere, this is the place to go. The cakes are amazing too!! Thank you New cafe, we will be back!!

Not for me nor had many good experiences here.... New management seems a bit better tbf but I'd drive further out for good food

Apparently food all day does not mean all day

We popped in past here for a wee bite to eat before we went to the zoo. Staff were very nice & friendly. Food was excellent. My 11year old had a hot chocolate with all the bells & whistles, he was so impressed with it he wants to come back for another hot chocolate 🤣 My youngest had pancakes & syrup and an Strawberry ice-cream milkshake! She was in sugar heaven. Definitely be back if we are travelling that way again. 🥰

What a wonderful place that has been in business for over 100 years. They were so helpful when restricted to takeaway and will enjoy a relaxing coffee and hot sandwich now restrictions have been lifted. Well worth stopping in West Calder!

A wee bit expensive, but nice home made food

My and husband went there the other day thinking to order a coffee and cake while waiting for car from local garage but we end up with soup and a sandwich combo! Omg what a combination it was! So taste and delicious - fresh made vegetables soup and ham and Brie sandwich and beef sandwich were amazing and so fresh! Staff eye polite and helpful with ordering. Well recommend! Thank you for our lovely unexpected lunch.

Sadly the hot breakfast food was all pre-cooked meaning it was 'warm'. The tea was quite weak and also not that hot. Topped off with a cup very much in need of being replaced. However the cafe itself appeared clean and tidy enough and a nice place to sit out of the rain.

went in for a breakfast with my grandson, food dry, service was shocking, the tea pot was spilled on to our table, food expensive. interior is very dated and could do with a make over, I am contacting health and Safety due to very messy service area,grave concerns.

Opens nice and early can get to take away not expensive and very quiet little cafe friendly atmosphere and I have never seen it without people in the whole 15 years that a lived here and in polbeth does tea coffee rolls sandwiches all-day breakfast take a break and watch the world go by in this little warm welcoming cafe friendly members off staff has been there for many years and it is still running solid

Brilliant breakfast great coffee super music - what's not to like?

Probably not much of a review this one, but on a quick visit to West Calder I had half an hour to kill, so went for coffee in the New Café. Pleasant, friendly service from the two ladies on duty and the latte was excellent. Pleasant décor and the café seemed popular with the locals too. Friendly service and good coffee, boxes ticked.

I live getting paninis from here, my favourite is sweet chili chicken. They do great milkshakes and cakes here too. Haven't been in a while though

Waited 10 minutes to be served in a unprofessional manner, waitress very rude no personality. Food was greasy tasting of onions/burgers even though we did not order these items. Bacon undercooked chips were 2.50 for tiny portion. Food portions are very small also for the price they are charging! If you are wanting a greasy spoon then this is the place for you! Works out to be a very expensive meal for poor quality dining. Will not be back

Decent selection and the food was pretty good. Had lunch with the kids and we always cart games with us to play when in cafes and restaurants. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Food was timely and it was a nice enough place to hang out for an hour. Would defo come back

Good food with a surprising range of choice, excellent coffee in a decent size cup, friendly, helpful service

The food in this place is great - stovies, macaroni cheese...all the home comforts! And the cakes (especially millionaire shortbread) are delicious! My wee boys like when we sit up by the big windows and they get a good look at all the cars/lorries going by. Plenty to keep them amused. The staff are lovely - really friendly. And the prices are really reasonable. It can be a bit dark inside, as I guess it is North facing - but you get a good feed, for a good price, from some nice people.

Went for breakfast which was fine, thought somewhat unremarkable. The quantity of food was good, but Mr Microvave must have been put through his paces before it arrived at my table. Very friendly staff however, unlike the elderly individual fronting "Thistles" across the road. They could come over to The New Cafe and learn something about customer service.

Always tasty meals and lovely staff

My pal and I had lunch here on our way home from visiting the Scottish Football Museum. Great food, good prices and service. My macaroni and cheese was the best I've had in a restaurant for a long time. I will be back.

Lovely little shop with great coffee

We decided to quickly run in here as we needed something quick for breakfast. We got a link sausage roll and a square sausage roll which were not up to much at all. The quality of the sausages were awful and I only ate for the sake of eating food and having paid for it. This cafe has been open in the village since I can remember and I think this is maybe the second time I have eaten here. I can remember going in when I was a child, my memory of the inside makes me think the decor hasn’t changed and certainly after my experience with the food recently I know the food isn’t up to much. I pass the cafe in the morning where the pavement is at the side/back of the cafe are taken up with the lunch time sandwich vans being stocked which cater to businesses throughout that day. I hope the quality of the food in these vans is better than what I saw on offer inside the cafe and ate at the weekend. I wish I had gone with my instinct when I saw the greasy breakfast selection and decided just too eat at home. It’s a shame I’ve had this experience from a local business. I hope it is just the breakfast food which is poor.
