The Nook Cafe in Wirral

We visited here today, the food was very well presented and delicious. I had bacon and poached eggs on toast, the eggs were nice and soft/runny, the bacon was tasty and the granary bread was great too. The prices are reasonable too.

Tapas night on a Friday was great - would definitely return. The steak dish was fantastic!

The Nook is a consistently good independent cafe which is run by a very hardworking team. The food is excellent whether it's breakfast, lunch, Friday evening tapas or at the occasional supper clubs. Prices have certainly gone up as they have everywhere but that's to be expected. I don't go as often as I'd like but I'm delighted to support them whenever I can and will continue to do so.

Came in with my partner and both had the eggs Benedict, eggs were cooked perfectly by Ste! Thought it was great value for money. Also great is dog friendly too.

Visited yesterday with friend and our three children, got rude vibes from the short haired female staff member. Assumed she was stressed so didn’t say anything. Foolishly visited again today with husband and son, sat in window where there was a rude sign telling paying customers that if we ignored their orders to not let children’s shoes or dogs on their precious, presumably outrageously valuable cushions, paying customers would be asked to leave. We took our son’s shoes off (which we would’ve done anyway having just been in the park) and sat down. We ordered some drinks from the less than friendly same woman from yesterday, clearly not in the best mood again. We sat in the window and unfortunately (whilst sat down) my 2 year old son managed to spill his hot chocolate, mostly over me with some on a grey cushion and seat. We tried to clean it up as best we could with napkins. The young male staff member brought our breakfast over and I apologised and asked for another hot chocolate, stressing that we would pay for it. He was fine with it, as any sane human would be- accidents happen. Then the short haired woman came over and instantly hit the roof and flew off the handle at us, shouting at us about how “these things cost money!!!” referencing the cushions and pointing to the rude sign. I calmly explained that we’d apologised to the other staff member and that “accidents happen”, but she proceeded to shout in our faces, saying that “maybe you should look after your children then!!!”. It was at that point I’d had enough so I asked her to cancel the rest of the order and that we’d be leaving. My son cried his eyes out until we managed to find somewhere more accommodating and cuddled him until he calmed down. Absolutely aghast at such behaviour, could not believe my eyes when she let loose on us. Completely disgusting behaviour, wonder how she’d have reacted if an adult had done the same and not an innocent child. If you don’t want spillages from time to time, maybe ban children completely or better still, go and work somewhere where you can shut yourself away and not be customer facing, as judging by some of the other comments on here, it clearly isn’t your forte and that’s putting it lightly. Disgusting.

I don't come here often, but am always delighted when I do. The food is so tasty and flavoursome. The service is polite and friendly; and the environment is welcoming and spotlessly clean. Thanks for a lovely lunch!

Unfortunately we picked the wrong place for us to eat on our 1st visit to West Kirby.. I don't like to leave a negative review on small businesses but unfortunately the unfortunate replies to my answer when asked" was all OK" when coming to pay and my reply was no sorry the toast was wet and soggy, no apologies other than their reply of "I will let them know" fully charged which is fine but then to have the short haired lady (cook) come out to scold me about Welsh rabbit being made with cream and it's the juice that makes the toast soggy .....I could not believe the response....if you are a cook who makes Welsh rabbit you'll know 😉...no juice no soggy bread ...I totally understand the recipe is made to each cooks style and I appreciate that.but it was the staffs response that perturbed me more ... The teapot was so stained the inside lids were terribly stained and so was the small milk jugs on the outside I know dishwashers aren't great for removing tanning stains but once a week a good scrub and hand wash would clean them nice and sparkling....I did not complain about this and I was more than happy to pay my bill..I'm a small business owner and I know what it takes to make a customer feel welcome and happy and the attitude on the day we visited was extremely poor unfortunately... It maybe different on another day but we can only review our visit and unfortunately we will not be revisiting..

Service was slow ,ordered the chicken burger which was nice enough but didnt merit the £9 price tag,just some chicken pieces and a bit of lettuce...no chips or sides,wouldnt go back there

Great place for a bite to eat and quality coffee. Staff are helpful, friendly and super efficient. Plenty of choice on the menu, good quality fresh ingredients used throughout too it seems. We'll be back soon.

Lovely brunch but I hate that a service charge is added to the bill so you have to proactively remove it.

I’m not satisfied with the waffle i ordered! It supposed to be crispy on the outside and soft moist on the inside, rather i got a very crispy waffle through and through almost like eating a waffle cone. Vanilla ice cream also very small in scoop. Cost additional £3 for an extra waffle! Not worth it! The lady staff who served was nice and looks like the 1 kitchen staff is struggling with orders as there was 5 tables to be serve with 2 staff. Feel sorry for them

We had the Tapas on Friday. The dishes were all flavoursome and very enjoyable.Owner's recommendations were good! We drank the recommended White Rioja which was good and had a lovely sherry with our puddings.

My partner and I went for breakfast, as we used to go regularly when the venue was Hardys, and was always delicious. We sat in the window seat, and we were welcomed by a sign on the wall informing us the dogs and children's outdoor footwear were not permitted on the window seat, and if the 'polite' request was ignored, we would be evicted. Nice. I decided that the chorizo hash with eggs sounded lovely, but as I struggle with drier foods, I requested a side order of hollandaise. My partner ordered eggs benedict. Our drinks arrived and my partners latte was luke warm. However, the thimble full of milk I received for my pot of tea, was red hot. As we know, heating milk changes its composition by releasing lycopenes and melting the sugars, making it sweet and creamy, great in coffee. Not in tea. Anyway, whilst trying to work out how to stir my pot of tea without a spoon, the short haired cook bounces up to our table, hands on hips (we will call her Karen, as I don't know her name, as she didn't introduce herself) I am abruptly told that I am not permitted to have a side order of hollandaise with the hash, because, 'it is Karen's favourite dish on the menu, and I am not allowed to ruin it by the addition of hollandaise. It is a spanish dish, so I can't have hollandaise.. If I want hollandaise I had to have eggs royal, benedict or florentine.' I am not 17 year old Demi from the Leasowe Karen, I'm a middle aged Nursing Manager. I was so shocked, I was speechless. My Partner argued that it was my choice of what I wanted but she aggressively stared him down until I agreed to forget the sauce. I felt like a child being told off for not doing their homework in a timely manner. Then the food came. My partner had 2 small muffin halves, with one slice of over cooked bacon, one poached egg was completely solid, other not far behind, topped with a small dollop of hollandaise on each. No garnish, and not particularly nice. My ' hash' was, as expected, very dry. Potatoes and onions on the bottom Topped with 2 fried eggs, again 1 yolk solid, with a scattering of chorizo over. A very large dusting of smoked paprika. It was reasonably tasty, but very dry, and I'm sure, would of been delicious with a bit of sauce to moisten it. If, Gordon Ramsey, holder of 16 Michelin stars told me that I would certainly not require additional sauce with one of his dishes, I would take that. But not from Karen, the thoroughly objectionable rude and threatening breakfast cook from a cafe in West Kirby. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

Probably the nicest sandwich I have eaten, amazing service catered for my coleiacs very well, pointed out alternatives, quick friendly service and very informative about allergies, definitely recommend to any one concerned with allergies just let them know.

Over priced, over cooked, 50 pound for 2 full englishs, drinks, and 2 kids breakfasts, although no kids menu, or kids prices, will not be coming back service was friendly thats about it. In response to the owners comments, i stand by what i said, over cooked and over priced. I ate it because i didnt want to waste my money, when asked how it was i said " it was alright" as didnt want to be rude, then when i was told it was £48 odd i honestly felt sick, which led to my negative review. Wont be coming back and won't be recommending 👍 Oh yeah and i ordered 3 extra items as 1 sausage, 1 egg and 2 bacon is tiny for for price so ordered an extra egg, piece of bacon and a sausage which was £2.50 more? Then my girlfriend requested to swap her black pudding for a hash brown, and got told it was going to be 50p extra! How petty. *Also correction * 1 coffee * 1 tea and *2 hot chocolates is not 4 coffees and hot chocolates *

This is a nice place, but struggles due to the flat atmosphere and standard surroundings. The food is good, the service is fine but it isn't competing in terms of character and attraction.

Been numerous times for the tapas on a Friday evening. Always great!

First time we've been, chorizo hash was recommended to me (I'm coeliac, so on a gluten-free diet), two words - bloody lovely!! My wife had brie, cranberry and bacon toastie, which she really enjoyed too. Plenty of choice food and drink wise, nice atmosphere, great food knowledge which was very reassuring for us. As Arnie (sort of) says, "we'll be back!"

My wife and I went along for the Friday evening tapas (after we popped in for lunch earier in the week and liked the food). An excellent meal of home cooked, tasty and authentic tapas. Really enjoyable and thoroughly recommended.

The Nook was very cost, immaculately clean and well presented. The young man serving was polite and attentive and made every effort to serve us professionally and warmly. I had the burger with hand cut chunky chips and my wife had a full breakfast, we finished with a scone with butter, cream and jam. The food was all fresh and I think almost all made in the kitchen from scratch. We couldn’t have been happier with it.

Watch out for the short haired cook, fly's off the handle very easy, walking past and saw her scream at a postie, because he left the door open for 2 seconds while delivering, very hot tempered

I decided to take my fiancée their for a change so the skinny hot chocolate is lovely and yummy and the lemon tart was lovely and soft so the lady was helpful in the cafe giving us good services in my life so I shall be back with my mates again

We waited nearly 40 minutes for an all day breakfast. When it arrived it was the smallest plateful of food I've ever seen, it looked like they had used one mushroom between us. Such bad service, a total rip off for nearly £25. Never going back there.

The Nook was a lovely place to have something to eat, Me and my friend both Loved are Fish finger Sandwich and a Side of Hand cut Chips so Delicious, Atmosphere was lovely and Staff were all so Nice, Will definitely visit again.

Lovely little place with great food and attentive staff, I’m glad it was busy and didn’t mind waiting a little it was worth it and locals should be happy to have a lovely place like this on their doorstep.

A good, local neighbourhood cafe. There is lots of competition and sometimes people might not get to The Nook. It serves a mixed menu of sandwiches and all day breakfasts. Have had lunch and brekkie here and both have been good. Staff are friendly and whilst not the cheapest of places the food is always good quality.

Nice food and excellent service

Called in for lunch after a bracing walk on the beach. We had built up quite an appetite! Greeted warmly. Ordered two flat whites, then chose our food. Coffees arrived promptly, were hot and tasty. I had chips, eggs and chorizo, it was absolutely delicious, I didn't leave a scrap, in fact I even pinched a bit of toast from my Husband's breakfast to mop up my plate! My Husband ordered a full english and everything was cooked just to his liking. Will definitely go back.

Disappointed with breakfast. Very long wait. Bacon way too salty. Other customers’ dogs barking at each other. Staff not over friendly. Actually told us how to pay for service when paying on card machine. Won’t be back.

Went today for a little late lunch And whilst we got what we ordered I wouldn’t rate this establishment much higher than average Ordered a BLT and got literally a BLT on an oval plate no side salad no crisps nothing And a chicken burger on a side plate The side order order Of chips for £4 was ??????????? Totally Embarrassing Got about 12 Chips in a peanut size bowl (small chips at that) Tea for two was tea for two usually get more than two cups out of a teapot But not this teapot literally got 3 small cups out of it and at the price of it (feel robbed) Would I come back is always something I ask myself (look at previous reviews) Well this Is categorically a BIG no In todays modern society They need to up their game and provide a good service and better food There’s better, much better places to eat in WK In fact so much better this place would rank low At a reasonable price £23.50 for not a lot wasn’t good value Seriously up,your game I hate to knock local business because in todays world it’s hard but please take a look at local competitors and up your game don’t rip off your customers with average cuisine Parkgate tea rooms is so much better and cheaper Sadly didn’t go there today Lesson learnt

Hmm not much on the plate for the money charged.

Came here for a catch up with a friend with my 4 month old baby. It didn’t feel too small to accommodate my pram despite it being a small establishment. The staff were great - they took our drinks orders and were happy to wait for food orders whilst I fed my daughter. I ordered the coronation chicken salad which was delicious! Even tasted nice cold which tends to be the case with a baby! They have baby changing facilities when I asked, the woman even offered to help set up the nappy changing station. I would recommend this cafe for it’s beautiful food and kind hospitality, well will definitely be going back! Thank you x

Food good but major ongoing argument in the kitchen, including offensive language, ruined the experience.

We called in here looking for something light, as neither of us was really hungry - ahem! The place was light, bright and very clean, and extra points from me for having paper towels in the loo. So my ‘something light’ was egg and chips and my husband had the full English breakfast, all breakfast items being available until 4pm. The lady in charge could not have been more friendly and attentive and the food, freshly made, was delicious. And do you know what else was delicious? The tea! Sounds silly maybe, but it’s the first pot of tea I think I’ve ever enjoyed with a meal out. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing Tapas. We had a brilliant birthday celebration for our friend. Every dish that came out impressed everyone, and our gluten-free and vegetarian friends were very well catered for. Very highly recommended!

Well - that was what my husband said as he enjoyed his full English! I had egg and chips - a simple dish, but it was one of the best I've had in ages. Oh - and a hot chocolate with all the triimngs - and that was jolly good as well! Lovely people - excellent service.

Went here for breakfast on Saturday morning. Friendly lady. Good selection of breakfasts to have. Went for a full english which was delicious and I always appreciate the effort to send it on a hot plate. had a homemade banana milkshake as well on a whim rather than coffee which was also delicious. Been in many of the West Kirby Cafes and this one didn't disappoint.

Menu outside, lots of tempting choices, well priced. Licenced, with a little courtyard at the back as well as pavement tables at the front. Food and service excellent, staff pleasant and could not do enough for us. Delicious food!! Will definitely be paying a visit again soon!
