Wow what an amazing afternoon we had on Saturday 21st December. The staff put in so much effort for the children to meet Elsa and Father Christmas. Great atmosphere, good food and fabulous staff. Who could ask for more. Special mention to Paul and Mark who can never do enough to make sure your visit is memorable.

Very nice lunch slightly let down by the "hand cut ,skin on chips" actually being ordinary frozen chips. Lovely decor and helpful staff.

We booked The Boat House for a wake for my lovely Nan and where so impressed with the communication, service and food that we booked again for a family meal to celebrate what would have been Nans 90th birthday. Catered for 12-15 of us, some of us fussy too. The communication was great we pre ordered and we all knew what we where having and if we wanted to add or change anything that was fine too. The food was great quality, hot and served in a timely fashion. The service was amazing, patient with us and couldn’t do enough. It was an absolute pleasure and we throughly enjoyed it. I’m sure Nan would approve too! We will be back and thank you all of you who made special

Visited today for first time and we thoroughly enjoyed a roast beef dinner, best I've had in ages. The dogs also enjoyed their roast dinners which were free for a donation to Makants Greyhound rescue. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating and we will be back for sure

The hubster and I had a fabulous Sunday roast here today. We live locally and decided to walk along the Bridgewater canal to try out the Sunday Roast. We were met with a warm welcome and a freshly cooked fabulous meal. The meat was plentiful, lots of fresh veggies, a great Yorkshire pud and lashings of gravy! The meal was reasonably priced too along with a good red wine. Big thanks to Mark and the team who were all lovely. We highly recommend and we are looking forward to a return visit!

Stopped in after visiting the Lancashire Mining Museum; a good canal side pub with a classic food selection. Would be amazing in the summer time.

Oo...lovely people.. Saturday 5.00pm, disappointing risotto pea soup with tiny sea bass fillets. It was all tasty but too expensive for the portions. Very small chips for the chicken and slaw and corn ribs. About 16 chips. All too mean for 18 quid plus. ..Sorry guys.. ×

Great Pub! I Went Here Yesterday (from the time of posting) And The Service Was Great! The Staff Can Merge Sides And Mains Onto One Plate If Requested. The Staff Are Nice And Polite! And The Food Was Excellent, I Had The Cheese & Bacon Burger With Chilli Chips (you normally get skin on chips alongst your burger but you can ask for chilli chips ( 50p+)) And Trust Me It Was Great! I'd Recommend This Place :)

What a joke!!! Arrived at 3.45pm to be told they wasn't serving food outside as only one chef in. Not a problem. Went to the bar at 4.55pm to be told stopped serving food at 5pm by the useless articles behind the bar. No sign of this anywhere or even told by the manager who we'd spoken to when we arrived but happy enough to take money for our beer. A place we've been to for many years and definitely will not be revisiting.

Great pace, good decor, friendly staff who went above and beyond. The food was good and well priced and they are dog friendly. I recommend a visit if you're in the area and I'll be back again

Average pub grub. Bit disappointed after high recommendations. Parking very restricted at busy times.

A nice atmosphere especially sitting in the sun outside. Good to see the outside structure still there which I built about 20 years ago. It won't be another 20 until we return. Lots of nice people enjoying the ambience.

Roasts were served without stuffing but we were only told when the food arrived not when we ordered

Our second visit to this lovely pub. Super friendly to the dogs..including dog biscuits. Everyone, staff and customers, stopped to give them a fuss. The usual drinks menu and nice food on offer. The standard pub restaurant options plus a few different options I've not had elsewhere. Only marked a star off as one of the meals was bought out a little while after the others & we had to ask where it was rather than been told there was a slight delay. Another was missing an item from the plate but it turned out that they had misheard and had substituted for something else. When settling the bill this was removed without having to ask. None of this would prevent us from returning as the rest of the visit was lovely.

Had lunch here today with my mum and dad and daughter. The lunch menu is a bargain and is a good sized portion for lunch. My garlic chicken wrap was very tasty and well filled with chicken and salad. The 5 oz gammon was cooked to perfection and the fish and chips were tasty too. Not feeling like a big dessert we were going to have Mini dessert and hot drink. This was not on the menu due to restricted menu due to staff shortages, however, shoutout to India who made us a mini cheesecake and mini crumble herself. My dad was in his element drinking Black Sheep Bitter. Above and beyond with customer service. Can't wait to visit again.

Lovely place Shame the food didn't quite meet expectations. Shared my disappointment with the management and they were very good at dealing with the complaint. Overall a good experience I will certainly try the food again.

Party of 5 for a meal last night at 7pm (3 August) really nice meal great service and staff very attentive. Been a while since we have visited and we definitely recommend and we will be visiting again soon. Many thanks to the staff.

Food was great, service was friendly but really slow, maybe we hit it at a bad time. After our food order came out about 5 more orders came out all at once, so maybe the cook just got back from lunch lol. Overall, good ambience, food was great, nice beer garden and outside seating along the canal.

Has a deal of £10 for a small lunch and a pint - great value. Service is good, could pay a little more attention to the non-regular paying customers. Atmosphere inside is a little flat, although I can’t say I’ve ever been in the pub when it’s been really busy.

The old boat house is an excellent little pub settled in canal bank. Perfect for a drink after a walk. Beer garden/ canal side seating is great in the sun, but also in the milder weather due to the out door heaters. This is definitely a new favourite. Neck oil £6.10.

First time eating at the pub and the food didn't disappoint! But for me star of the show was the lovely young lad in the red shirt! Warm welcoming, polite and even joined in on winding the kids up over the canal

Visited here today for the first time with my partner, my son and our 9 week old puppy bluey, can I just say what an amazing place it is, it's dog friendly, the food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced, the staff where so lovely and they all loved our puppy bluey he got lots of attention even from all the people that where in there to, they also gave him some treats which he loved thank you so much and we can't wait to come and visit again 🙂 (highly recommend)

Very sorry to rate this so low , it was recommended for Sunday lunch by family and friends , we had Sunday lunch but we were very disappointed, we don’t eat out often and so was looking forward to this , the beef was far too overcooked roast potatoes were soft , was hoping for crispy, veg wasn’t great , and gravy was very bland ,,, to be honest the whole meal was bland , the surcharge was £8 on a £57 bill , we paid it but won’t be going back for food,,, ashame really because it’s a nice pub

We went to the Old Boat House after a friend’s recommendation. Staff were friendly enough, food was very nice, but considering it wasn’t or didn’t appear that busy, the service was slow.

Went with friends at the weekend for a meal. Service was good but food left a lot to be desired for the price. One meal of steak pie was inedible as the pastry was rock hard. Management apologised but didn’t offer a replacement or discount. I had one fish cake small salad and a child’s portion of chips. My other friend had the chicken tikka which was ok. Only soft drinks and felt ripped off when the bill came to £75

Not been here for a while. Went for lunch today with my husband (we celebrated our engagement here in 1986!). Had a really yummy lunch today. Great atmosphere and service too. Thank you. We plan to visit again very soon 🙌🏻 💖

What a little gem on a summer day. Great outside dining adjacent to the canal. Friendly staff and excellent menu (I enjoyed the venison and bacon pie). Good selection of beers, and it won't break the bank. Dog friendly, too.

Lovely sunny day, it was busy but the service was fantastic. Garden area was full yet the staff still found time to speak to people and ensure any dogs had water and even a free doggy biscuit or two. Highly recommended

Popped in after a long walk along the canal, very nice location and would of stayed longer and made an afternoon of it if my wallet would of allowed it very expensive drinks so 4 stars.Possibly return if along the canal again, £3.50 a pint just up the road

I visited with my family Sunday evening. As soon as we went in, staff greeted us making us feel very welcome. Emma served us and what can I say! She’s bubbly, funny and very helpful and efficient. A real asset to the Boathouse. She looked after us really well and ensured we had a great Sunday roast. We would recommend to everyone.

Great day at the Boathouse with lots of great entertainment....Best of all were The Monkeymen......unfortunately the band had to stop short of the full sets due to torrential rain....hopefully they will be back there soon....

A realy nice meal with excellent service and an excellent cider to wash it down. The 2 courses for £16 is great value.

Fantastic location but expensive

Been today with my wife, mum, sister in law n nieces.. Had the fish and chips and pint meal deal.. What I was expecting and what I got were too different things.. I was expecting an actual portion of fish and chips.. I wasn't expecting a slither of fish, handful of chips and tea spoon full of peas on a saucer.. Plus I couldn't have the beer I wanted as part of the deal.. So not very good really Following up from the owner's response.. Please don't insult me by calling me 'David'.. My name is 'Dave' as it clearly states at the top of the review.. We wasn't explained anything about portion sizes at all

Visited for lunch. Chose from the lunch menu for £10. Drink and a small plate. I have the vegetarian sausage with mash, onion rings and peas. It was delicious. The onion rings were the best I have had. Finished off with ice-cream. That was delicious too. Great service and super friendly.

Been to the Boathouse a few times mainly for a drink or popped in when cycling on the canal. First time we’ve had a meal since the new owners took over and we were well impressed! Fabulous atmosphere, traditional pub classics menu. And dog friendly too! George was greeted with treats and lots of cuddles! What more could you ask for! Will definitely be back!

The staff are always friendly come here alot especially in the summer when cycling always top service, in the summer a lady let us fill our Warter bottles up when we had a heat wave

Not the cheapest pub grub in the area, but the food was excellent, and full table service as well, so in all a very enjoyable experience. Will definitely recommend and return ourselves soon

Ideal lunch date venue. The pub has a very cosy atmosphere and the garden area is very pretty. It wasn't the ideal weather for sitting outside today, but I can imagine it would be great in the warmer months. Service was excellent and the food was fresh. I will definitely book again.

Food undercooked! And staff very unpleasant when trying to return it. Tea and coffee served luke warm, white foam on top suggest that water has not been boiled to appropriate temperature to brew tea. Not for us.

Food was nicely presented, hot and tasty. Service was prompt and very friendly. Good value (we ate from the evening set menu).

Lovely pub. Really good vegan food. Good atmosphere. Very clean. The only thing I was disappointed with was there only a small choice of vegan sweets. Apart from that, we will carry on visiting the establishment.

Fantastic pub. We have eaten here many times and the food has always been excellent. The whole team here are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Dog friendly and an all round great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

The order was incorrect. The portions were significantly smaller than usual- I have been here many times before. The attitude was appalling by the member of staff when I informed him of the incorrect order and portion size. Customer service was absent on this occasion. Due to his behaviour we left and went to another local eatery, this highlighting the huge difference in customer care and professionalism. Also, your response to this review speaks volumes. I am fully aware of what menu I ordered from. Yes the portions, even for this, were smaller than usual. I am surprised at the lack of acknowledgement and apology for your sarcastic and aggressive attitude/demeanour at the time.

Paul and Mark did a fantastic job for my Partners Mums funeral. Food was great, Paul and Mark were amazing and did a fab job. I would definitely recomend!

We had a fantastic lunch here, and the great thing was the staff couldn’t do more for my wife who has a gluten intolerance (see burger picture below). I had an amazing venison & bacon pie with mash and seasonal vegetables. They have some Timothy Taylor cask on and I had a pint of Boltmaker with my lunch. I finished it off with some Sticky Toffee pudding which was one of the best I’ve had for a long time. I highly recommend this little pub on the canal. They have a large outdoor area which is amazing in the summer. It’s always a great reward after a nice walk down the canal.

Nice venue, next to canal. Staff were very polite. Had a couple of minor issues with food orders which where resolved promptly. Manager was very helpful.

Was very quiet just leading up to Christmas. Everything was wonderful.

Well what can we say. Menu 1 saying fish chips must peas. £9.95. When got there it had gone up to. £13.95. 2 drinks £7 67. Buy same 2 drinks 1 hour later. £8 67. Service charge extortionate. They didn't move glasses until we where going. £8.95 for 6 prawns and a bit of wilted lettuce. So called prawn cocktail. The prices they charge is disgraceful. Never again. Spent £231.

Visited this with our LBGT walking group. Lovely atmosphere. Drinks and food all thumbs up from everyone. Staff pleasant and warming. Decoration nice and also dog friendly which is a huge plus. Clean and plenty of seating. Plenty of parking and beautiful Christmas decorations. Good music and tvs situated around. Nice outdoor seating space. Highly recommended
