The Old Club House in Argyll & Bute

Such a beautiful location with lovely staff but unfortunately the worst meal ever. If a chef cannot make macaroni then it's a big no from us. Pasta and water would have been more apt. Feel sorry for the waitresses working there having to serve such bland inedible food. We are not complainers but felt the need to. The waitresses were so lovely and engaging but even they could not make up for the inedible food. Will definitely not return

We ordered food for 5 and waited one hour until our food came service very poor when food arrived the chips were soaked in oil and the cheese was very plastic would not recommend

There’s a few poor reviews here so I thought I’d share our excellent meal. We booked ahead on a Sunday evening. Easy by phone. It’s a place obviously popular with big golfing parties and we are a couple. Two waitresses serving. There were some big parties in but we were seen to promptly and served well and very attentively. There were a couple of things off from the menu but we find Sundays often like that anywhere. The choice though was more than adequate. I had the Cullen Skink as a starter and then the bacon steak. Both were excellent. Lots of lovely chips and a tasty side salad with excellent slaw. Liz had the venison burger which was also very good. Too full for desert. The restaurant itself is comfortable and pleasant. Well worth a visit.

We were staying in the Ugadale hotel for a few nights and went to dine at the Old Club House. We didn’t think booking a table would be necessary as it seemed quiet with many free tables. The welcome was disappointing - ‘Abby’ seemed annoyed that 2 guests had arrived from the hotel for food unannounced. The service was terrible, we were told to order at the bar and ended up sitting outside in the cold as ‘no tables available inside’ despite 2 tables lying idle? Abby was rude and far from welcoming and this made us feel as if we were a trouble dining in the club house. There are approx 10 tables in the bar and this seems too much to handle for Abby and her two waitresses. A properly trained, capable and interested supervisor/manager would make this club house a wonderful experience! Based on our visits this week we wouldn’t want to return.

Absolutely the worst meal I’ve experienced in Campbeltown/Machrihanish.. chips not cooked properly, mash disgusting, pizza was Chicago town pizza thrown in microwave… avoid at all costs!

What a fantastic little spot. A charming build with a classic look of a pub inside. The food was amazing and obviously home cooked. Service was lovely. The place is linked to golf and has the most amazing views overlooking the sea and golf course.

After being here before for a meal and enjoying it we came back. Well think the owner or chef must have changed. Menu very poor. Not much choice. I opted for souo as I seen other food coming out and it looked awful. Chicken was cold, veg and salad soggy and chips were half raw. What put me off was when I went to the loo the the chef was picking food off floor in to plate. Thankfully we had our food at this point. Definitely avoid as it’s cold, and staff look fed up. Shame as it’s in a lovely location. With correct management and staff it would’ve been a lot better.

The location is beautiful - the exterior of the building is attractive - and then you go in! It is dark, dingy, and really not welcoming. The menu is short which might not be a bad thing but to say it is basic is an understatement. There is no wine list and the staff member taking drinks orders could not remember the two red wines available. When a couple came in and wanted a bottle of wine meltdown nearly followed. The food was okay but really did nothing to enhance the reputation of Kintyre as a culinary destination. Overall this has to be one of our least enjoyable dining experiences in many a year. The owners need a new approach to bring this place to a decent standard. Avoid would be my recommendation.

After a long beach walk we decided to stop off for lunch. Our two dogs were made most welcome receiving gravy bones! We both opted for the Clubhouse burger and chips and shared a portion of onion rings ! The burger was flawless ! Onion rings weee thick crispy ones ! No room for dessert so we opted for a rocky road cake to take away ! 10 out of 10. For food and service !

The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, the lady who served us was very friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is lovely! We were lucky with the weather and the location is stunning, we'd definitely recommend it.

Enjoyed our lunch. My husband had fish and chips which was served hot and was nicely presented. I had goats cheese salad which was enjoyable. The interior is slightly dark but the view was stunning. Pleasant young waitress. Toilets clean. Would happily return.

We took a friend and her two children here as we’d eaten there dozens of times and were quite happy with the food and the service. We were looking forward to their haggis nachos and chicken tenders but discovered they were not on the new menu. The food took an age to arrive despite the place being relatively quiet. The chicken burger was returned immediately as it was tasteless and bland. Two burgers were eaten, due to hunger, but were tasteless. The remaining burger was cold and raw inside. The Chicken Tikka? was okay. The chips were lovely and the staff kindly moved our reservation from 1830hrs to 1730hrs. There has been a considerable hike in their prices since last year. I left embarrassed and won’t be going back.

Popped in here for a few drinks after a walk around campbelltown before going back to the campsite for the night. Originally we were only having a drink but the table beside us got food and looked amazing so we grabbed a few menus , the food was amazing and the portion sizes are a good amount and filling , would highly recommend if popping in for a drink or for dinner

One to avoid. Service, standard of food and general ambience is very poor. Such a shame as the location is excellent.

Staff were very welcoming and attentive, food was lovely, curry, burger, haggis nachos, salt and pepper chicken were all fantastic. Lovely views out to the beach. Would definitely recommend.

The power had gone off when we turned up for lunch but Adele and the kitchen staff sorted us out with some sandwiches which was greatly appreciated. Had them outside enjoying the beautiful setting.

Great food, served with friendly and helpful staff. Nothing spectacular on the menu but everything was done very well. Breakfast was great (better than a 5 star hotel we stayed in the day before). Large portions and great value.
