The Old Crown in Coventry

Our 2nd time there and welcomed by Sharon like she'd known us for years. A very warm and friendly lady who can't done enough for you. The food was top quality again. Lots of it, hot, fresh and tasty.

My biggest advice: come with an empty stomach and make sure you book! The carvery here was insane (in a good way XD). It was busy and we overheard the host say that it was fully booked all day. You get a choice between gammon, pork, beef and turkey. The veg is self serve. The price is really affordable and all the staff are incredibly friendly - the atmosphere is really joyful. Shout out Dan who gave us a friendly and warm welcome - he said we will be back...I don't doubt him now.

I took my Son there for lunch as he visiting from Winchester and never been before. He thought it was fabulous. The food was fantastic and the service top notch. He wants to bring the family back and eat there , I've been a few times and I love it I would recommend it to everyone. Thankyou

2023, I was there for the 1st time for xmas dinner with my knitting group. Lovely food, attentive and friendly staff, good prices. Definitely worth going there 2024, Well we went there again, and once more we were not disappointed. Thank you for the lovely food and attention

The waitresses here were giving mean girl vibes today. Particularly the one with brown hair. Served us the wrong size carvery tickets and then stared at us when we were getting our carvery and changed our order size. After we’d eaten, it took her 20 minutes to collect our plates, when she collected them she didn’t ask us if we wanted any more drinks or dessert she just walked off. We were then sat waiting for another 40 minutes while the waitresses went to other tables asking how their food was and taking drink and dessert orders and we were ignored. The waitress who’d served us initially was even stood having a full blown chat with one of the tables while were waiting. The table next to us had their dinner after us but were eating their desserts before we were even asked if we wanted anything else - we were NEVER asked and in the end I had to actually call over to the waitress for the bill. When she gave it us she told us to pay at the bar. When we got to the bar I asked if usually people are provided with card machines at their table and was told yes. Whilst we were at the bar the waitresses were stood together in a group staring at me as I told the manager what had happened - you didn’t intimidate me girls sorry. We left without ordering dessert and will never be back.

Felt very uncomfortable here due to some of the waitresses. They were staring at us as we got our food, never checked on us throughout the meal, took over 20 minutes to collect our plates, and we waited over 40 mins for the bill - which we eventually had to ask for. When the bill came, the waitress came over, gave us a receipt and said “you pay at the bar.” We had seen them bringing around card machines to other tables around us, so confused, we went to the bar and asked the lady if this was the custom. She said that this wasn’t the case, and they should have let us pay at the table. We were actually going to order dessert but we weren’t asked and then we just wanted to get out. Won’t be back.

We booked the Christmas meal for 8 of us. As always delicious food, hot and big portions. Staff are amazing and work so hard, they make you feel welcome and very helpful. We have been many times for lunch and dinner and the food is always great.

Food and staff were excellent but the food was not hot could not finish my meal as it was cold we were told not to touch plates as they were red hot, sorry they were stone cold, such a shame not as good as last year xmas meal. Sorry pub was cold not pleasant.

Booked room upstairs for 34 for Christmas dinner, meals were excellent, staff exceptional room well decorated couldn't fault it

Four of us arrived and were shown to our table that was had Santa hats and Christmas crackers waiting for us,we had pre ordered our meals and the service was excellent as always he starters were very good. both the Turkey and the beef main dishes were excellent complete with a huge sharing bowl of seasonal veg.and extra gravy if required,the Christmas pudding was lovely and they followed that with mince pies.The staff at the old crown always do their upmost to make you feel welcome and to cater for any special dietary needs.

I also was one of the ladies with the choir, what a fantastic night we all had! The staff were so welcoming and so well organised. The food was so tasty and red hot considering we were a big group. Thank you all for making it such a special night. We will be back!

Had a wonderful evening at The Old Crown, early Christmas celebrations for Belles of Three Spires chorus. Could not fault the food or service made more special by the fabulous Sharon.

The kids meals are a good size . Perfect for me as I'm not a big eater and plenty for my 12 yr old son who would normally eat and adults meal but the kids was plenty x

We had lunch here yesterday, choosing this after looking at reviews. The choice was great, a 2 course lunch menu for £10.99 with a lovely choice of dishes. Daughter had chicken burger with chips and I had a BLT ciabatta with chips, all delicious, freshly cooked and served on warm plates! Puddings were delicious, staff very pleasant and it was a great experience

The Sunday roast is delicious Sharon is a credit to the pub and made my friend Ted on his 88th birthday feel very special all the other staff very friendly and helpful great pub

Came for my parents joint 75th & 80th birthday.Sharon & all the staff were exceptional & the food was amazing!! Couldn't do enough for us,brought our parents birthday cake out & had all the restaurant singing along.Thanks for making our night very soecial!! Will be back very soon xx

Having been going to the old crown since moving to the area during covid we have been regularly getting a takeaway roast each Sunday. Usually it's excellent and that's why we keep going back, however were not ones for eating in. After having supported the business through covid, the engery crisis and cost of living squeezes today we've been made to feel totally unappreciated. Went to collect our regular to be told they aren't doing takeaway today as the restaurant is too busy. Made to feel like I was the problem for not eating in or booking a table. Has totally blown the years of what I thought was goodwill built up. The food isn't even any cheaper to take away and I even offered to pay extra but was looked at in a way that made me feel worthless. Very upset

Husband booked a table for my birthday, first they didn't know where to seat us, they had next to no food available on the menu we were given a sheet of paper with a list of what they had left, we wasn't made aware of this and it's now too late to go elsewhere for a decent meal so my husbands plans for my birthday were ruined.

Our regular local "feeding trough"! Just been back yet again and it's still just as good as ever. Been many many times, never had a bad meal, or service. Great chicken tenders, liver, spag bol, lasagna, filled baked spuds, steak ciabatta, sirloin steak, etc etc etc. Great service from Sharon, Sophie and Holly. Mon-Fri 2 course lunch for £10.95! Also a good function room upstairs.

Quality food withcpolite and speedy service, reasonably priced drinks, lovely atmosphere... went in for my girlfriends birthday today and what a lovely place, i'll be back for lunch tomorrow.

Visiting the area on a weekend break. We had the days special (shepherds pie) and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive. We liked it so much we returned for dinner again the following night and had another lovely meal.

The Old Crown provided a buffet for the reception after my husband's funeral. There were about 50 people & were given plenty of room to seat all of the people attending & the buffet provided was excellent & priced very reasonably. Highly recommended as a venue for parties / funerals.

The food is nice and there is plenty of outside space.

Went for a meal with family (11 of us) and I must say the food was excellent and come out at the same time and there was no complaints and al orders were correct - everybody enjoyed their food, the portions were good and the service was great - it’s the first time I have been - and I will definitely return for sure.

Lovely pub, amazing food and sunny pub garden

Stopped off here on whim as we were driving from York to Southampton. For the same price as a sad burger meal at the motorway services we got to huge huge main courses and drinks. The food was hot and tasty and huge (did I mention the portions were HUGE!) And the staff polite and happy.

Lovely, friendly staff and good home cooked pub grub. Excellent value for money and big portions. Nice beer garden if the sun is shining with a little playground for the kiddies.

Dining out can be challenging when needing gluten free options for Coeliac’s disease. We rang up and the host went to speak directly to the chef to ensure that we could be safely accommodated for. We felt reassured from the conversation on the phone and the fact they had a specific gluten free menu. Craving burgers we were not disappointed. Gluten free bun, gluten free burger and delicious chips (they have a separate chip frier which means we could have all the different types of chips). Excellent service. Top quality food. 100% would recommend and cannot wait to be back. Thank you

Been here quite a few times for Sunday carvery which is lovely, however the last couple of times haven't been so good. The mash potato was frozen or powered, the roast potatoes had herb rosemary on them which I don't like, it's not giving people a choice, please no herbs and proper mash. Otherwise its lovely.

We had booked for 6pm but had not been told or realised Crown fest was on, so we had a bit of a long wait, but lots of apologies and a complimentary round of drinks was acceptable plus they were raising money for Zoes place we had a lovely meal came to just over £70 food all mains and a round of drinks so we gave a tip up to £80 to go to the fundraising ❤️👍😊

Plucked The Old Crown from a list tonight and based on other reviews retried it out. Stunning food. Highly recommend the tandoori chicken and the pork belly main courses. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Clearly a favourite amongst locals too. A great choice for a fine meal.

This was a great day. We invited friends to join us at the Old Crown for Sunday afternoon food and drinks which turned out to be a brilliant day. The Upsiders band were playing who were brilliant. The food was great and the bar service, particularly from Ann-Marie was exceptional. I couldn’t speak more highly of the occasion. Highly recommended.

Came to the Old Crown to celebrate a birthday and enjoy a Sunday roast. There was a large group of us and the service was excellent, food was great and they was lots to do for everyone. A good selection of beers, and nice beer garden with play equipment for the kids and a few areas set up with big screens to show sport (the Olympics were on, I imagine they show lots of football and major sports).

We had lunch today as a family in the garden area. I ordered from the lunchtime menu as it seems good value for money. I actually never expected the quality to be so high. I must admit the Thai fishcakes were AMAZING, absolutely beautiful and very tasty. Shall definitely be coming back and will probably order two!

This was our first visit and they were very busy. We are both disabled and walk with sticks and there is no provision for disabled parking, infact the parking is horrendous. The food was OK but nothing special and you couldn't hear what your partner was saying because of all the screaming kids. Sorry but won't be going back

Went here on recommendations & absolutely worth it. The rib-eye steak was one of the best I've ever had. Only thing we didn't really rate were the steak sauces - wouldn't bother with those again. Will definitely be back. Sharon - best server!!

Although very busy, and not prebooked, the staff were super friendly and accommodating. They found us somewhere to sit and we had a large (even though it was classed as a medium!) Sunday carvery. Great value for money and Sharon was a super hostess making us feel really welcome.

Today was an amazing day made extra special. We were accommodated fully and Sharon was the most amazing hostess. She was so funny and just down to earth and wonderful. Super strong traditional English fish and chips. A great service from the boss Sharon who gave us excellent and excellent service. It was delicious. Especially the beer with the 5.5%. We'd love to come back.

Service was good but unfortunately the food didn't match up. I had the pork belly, which was overcooked and not that much of it. The mash and greens were nice and was very hot too, and plenty of to be fair. Sticky toffee pudding was lovely, though it did come with custard vs ice cream which I ordered. Still ate and was nice though.

Tried in April and waited 1 and a half hours to get our starter. Not happy.. Thought we would give it another try for my 70th birthday yesterday. WELL. !!! Waited for 45 minutes for the meal to arrive. I ordered the liver for a change. BIG MISTAKE. After 45 minutes it arrived virtually RAW. Looked ok, BUT Couldn't eat it. Complained to the waitress but no one from management even came over to apologise. NOT GOOD SERVICE or FOOD UNFORTUNATELY. 2 FAILURES on the trot. 😔 😟

Visiting Coventry for the first time and this place seemed highest rated near to where we were staying. Having visited I can see why. Service was great, food was amazing! Literally one of the best bar meals I've had for a while (and I have quite a few lol). Highly recommended!

I came for a carvery a couple of weeks ago with my Grandma and my little girl. My grandma is in her 90s with dementia and isn’t steady on her feet but the ladies that were on shift were amazing with us, so so helpful and kind / patient. It was very busy (good sign!) but the carvery was great.

Super friendly staff and amazing food! We came away for a short break and wanted to go out to dinner for out last evening. We were absolutely not disappointed! We hadn't booked, but they managed to fit us in. It was very busy as they had a quiz on, the atmosphere was very welcoming. The fish & chips were the best I've ever had, and I come from a seaside town, so expectations were high! 10/10 would recommend! Sorry I didn't take any photos, I was too busy enjoying myself😅

The food and service is absolutely fabulous. We arrived nearby by narrowboat and when we called one of the staff took time to give us accurate directions and when we arrived Sharon took care of us all (and helped me select gluten free food). The food itself was delicious and fresh and full of flavour. Thoroughly recommended 😋😋😋

Went with friends last night for a meal. Excellent choice of drinks and the food was amazing. Nothing heated up , all freshly made and cooked. Had the steak and Guinness pie which was the best I had ever had. Massive thumbs up. Highly recommended. Will be booking again without a doubt.
