The Old Hare and Hounds in Birmingham

Had lunch with a couple of friends. We all had the rainbow lasagne which was delicious, beautifully presented, and piping hot. The staff, Claire and Neil, were extremely friendly and helpful . Toilets were clean- always a good indication of how good a place is. It’s a great place for lunch and we will definitely be back.

Great food, lovely staff but it was so cold in there and the fire wasn't lit. Shame we had to sit in our coats! Please light the fires in winter, that's the point of visiting an Ember inn, a fireside dining experience that disappointed 😞

Updated, visited in 2024. It was not great, staff were clearly stressed and rude. We'd booked as a group and they'd clearly forgotten. Won't be back again in a hurry.

Exceptional food, good service and a good atmosphere in a busy pub.

Pretty standard suburban Ember Inn/Mitchell & Butlers The location is well placed to the lickey hills and cofton park. Decent car park Reasonable beer selection but nothing amazing for real drinkers Best thing is they allow dogs!

Lasagne was very different. Not sure I'd have it again.

Every time I have been the lady in the glasses behind the bar has ruined my experience with her rudeness, unsure if she is a manager or not with the way she acts, but the way she has treated me on more then one occasion has made sure I won’t be frequenting this establishment again.

Christmas day dinner a big thank you to the staff. We had a wonderful Christmas day from the atmosphere to the food. Staff were in the Christmas spirit nothing too much even with how busy it was however food served in a timely manner in between each course was not rushed. We had the table for nearly 3 hours. The food was excellent worth the price would go again and recommend this place for Christmas dinner.

Everything was well organised plenty of staff on so wasn't queuing to get drinks very reasonably priced my mum was in a wheelchair and she was easily accommodated and felt comfortable staff were very efficient and friendly overall we were all pleased with our Christmas Dinner

Went for lunch today as a group of 4. Ordered meal deal for 2 courses. My soup was thick and warm obviously not heated enough. 3 of us had fisherman's catch 1 had tartar 2 given mayo plus the usual slice of lemon was lime. When asking bout tartar guy said oh yes we have some now and brought some as we where finishing meal.plus pudding was nice. Overall it felt very disorganised. Also 2 ladies on bar really did not want to be there and the one that served us made us feel a nuisance shame as been before and was impressed.

This place is truly lovely in every way very Welcoming staff, friendly and calming atmosphere and to top it off amazing food all round too! place was pretty much perfect and great back ground music and lovely Xmas decorations very spacious and comfy seating too! Nice cosy areas inside and outside Will be visiting more regular as better than our usual regular place of over 10 years fancied a change and so glad we did as we’ve found a fantastic place great for a quiet meal and for our next family occasions really enjoyable evening 👍

Great serving staff. Friendly, polite and helpful. They go the extra mile. Atmosphere is calm during the week however weekend atmosphere gets much louder and wilder.

WELL what can I say about this incredible, amazing, full of fun and charisma pub. The staff are absolutely insane at their job, they blow it out the park. And when it comes to the quiz, wow it’s just the best night of my week. Jack just builds this incredible atmosphere where we can all let loose and just thoroughly get stuck into such a fun quiz every week. I would recommend this pub until the day I day and that’s the truth.

10/10 all bar staff are excellent chris natalie kieran and jay are amazing the quiz on a thursday is good aswell 11/10 pub for all -calvin klien- it’s my birthday

We had 4 lovely meals. One member of staff, a gentleman was especially helpful and nice. We shall definitely return

Really enjoyed our visit. Even though it was very busy the service was rapid and great atmosphere. Great standards. Special mention to the lady with the blue hair. Would recommend. Shame the prawn ciabatta has gone.

Had a lovely Birthday lunch here a couple of weeks ago, very nice Unfortunately I didn’t realise the parking was restricted and got a Parking Notice When I went in to query it the manager cancelled it straight away without any problems Many thanks

Buen almuerzo. Llegó y ordenó después de un grupo de 20 y aunque aconsejado por el personal del bar habría una espera no era inaceptable. Ambos tuvimos el sándwich de filete abierto de la nueva carta que era muy superior a la misma de la carta antigua. Si quieres buena comida pub a un precio razonable y un servicio encantador con una sonrisa este es el lugar para usted.

Visito la Liebre y los Sabuesos regularmente, pero esta fue la primera vez desde que se introdujo el nuevo menú. La lubina con curry de garbanzos era excelente. Muy sabroso. Muy agradable servicio de Daisy que sirvió la comida, y Sarah y Natalie en el bar.

Very nice food and very friendly staff.

Vino a cenar con unos amigos el martes por la noche tuvo una cálida bienvenida encantadora. La señora detrás de la barra Sarah era un diamante absoluto tan amable y servicial. La jovencita que sacó comida a la mesa Daisy fue muy atenta y se aseguró de que todos estábamos atendidos. Complementos a los chefs la comida era deliciosa

It was a lovely time, the food was wonderful and Natalie and Emily behind the bar were so welcoming and kind, they even remembered our drinks order! All in all a great experience I can’t wait to see them two behind the bar again they were so quick and fun

Food is good arrives quickly. All of the Staff are very nice always welcoming and friendly,especially Claire and the gentleman unfortunately I don't know his name. Perfect for a relaxing lunch.

It's a old pub modernised it's clean not to expensive plenty of room.

There was not many in there. Found it relaxing to sit and talk as well to eat. The meal was nice and drinks too.

First visit here after our daughter recommended it, it won't be our last visit. We went on a Thursday which is two steaks for £17 !! I think we went with the idea in our head that two steaks for that price they'd be ok!! We were wrong!!! Absolutely beautiful meal we couldn't fault it. Steak cooked to perfection , chips lovely, we thought it was a lovely meal. Service quick and efficient, staff really friendly. A fab pub 👍

Warm and lively atmosphere. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming- especially the lady that brought us our food. Food was tasty and piping hot, if we wasn't so full we would've ordered it again is was so good Definitely going there again

Nice pub sat outside with our dog as it was a lovely day. Like the small table inside for the dogs including Water and a list of extra food which can be ordered for the dog. The human menu needed more light bites eg jacket potatoes or sandwiches. We ordered some sides which came in good time and was enjoyable.

Went with friends late afternoon. Ordered the Sunday duo-chicken and gammon. The roast potatoes weren't cooked and not fresh were frozen, cabbage not cooked. Gammon was a thick slice of bacon and bland as can be, I got chicken leg which wad poor quality not much meat on it. Bearing in mind I've eaten here many times with no complaints. This has put me off ever eating here again. Have they changed chef's, so disappointing 😞

Natalie served me at the bar with a wonderful smile and impeccable service and Aidan brought my food over and was so welcoming.

It's an Ember Inn, so you know exactly what you are getting, but this is my go to place for great food at a great price (especially with a blue light card and using the loyalty card - if you haven't got a loyalty card then get one! Freebies and discounts come regularly!)

Had a birthday cellebration for 7people, staff were polite and good humered, food was excelent. Only down side was by the time we,d organised all the meals and qued to pay it was a good half hr into our timeslot so by the time we got our food at 8.15 which is not a critacisum that took up quite a bit of our slot, then a waitress came over at 9.30 said we needed to leave as the is a rule no kids after 9pm. Well we werent told about this either when booking, when we arrived, whilst at our table until wed ordered a sweet for kids, we had a cake with candles which was served a light and we were very greatful the young blonde girl even joined in singing happy birthday

Posh fish and chips was supposed to be cod but it was haddock. That was the only thing that was wrong. The staff are lovely so to you all, a big Thank you.

Great atmosphere, great drinks. I love the in place in general. Outside was really nice even though the heaters didn't work. But I also didn't know how to work them so it could have been a personal issue and I didn't ask, so I don't down that part. I loved everything else about the place. It's so cute. It's great for a date night. A friend's hang out. I thought it was great.I played a couple of card games.It was awesome. P s the food could be good, but I never tried it

Poped in for a light lunch, we had an open steak sandwich, the steak was cooked to perfection, staff were friendly and welcoming, also a dog friendly pub

There is only one vegeterian main meal option compared to the multiple meat options. This restaurant is not inclusive for vegeterians or vegans.

From start to finish an experience that I would not want to repeat. My first greeting at the bar was at best unfriendly from a young lady who gave the impression that sh5did really want to be there and had no real interest in serving me. Five hand pulled ales at the bar; four of them off or not working just about sums it up. It's noisy to the point of having to shout at each other and background music which is way to loud just adds to the unpleasantness. It scores two. One for good food at a good price and one for very friendly staff with that one exception. Finally, as I went to pay at the end, the aforementioned lady (whom by now ihad found out was the Manager) rudely pushed her own staff away from the till whilst they were serving several in a queue to get access the till herself and take someone else's payment. She obviously doesn't welcome the "grey pound".

A brilliant and classic pub - it's my go to place for a drink! Great prices.

You can tell its dog friendly, which is why we didn't eat in there. Not to clean, Rickety furniture, regular patrons were very loud and intimidating. The only complimentary thing I can say the bar man was very pleasant and helpful.

Had a very good meal, well cooked and quality ingredients, only downside was the wait, arrived with about 6 people waiting at the bar and only one person serving. After placing the order for food we had quite a long wait for it to be brought to the table, but it was good ;)

Natalie and Emily great servers. All the staff very friendly too including Aiden, Harry and Keanan. Never a dull moment.

Myself, my sister and our mom and dad had lunch here on Thursday. Colleagues were welcoming. We ordered food which consisted of Posh fish and chips, haddock and chips and chicken tikka masala. All of these came out together, looked and tasted delicious. Shall definitely visit here again on a lunch time.

Really liked our impromptu brekkie after walking the dogs (food and staff were lovely), what I wasn't so keen about was the amount of rubbish and pieces of broken glass in the beer garden. Not ideal when you're looking for and need a dog friendly pub 😔

Food awful, seems this chain has totally given up its food quality and standards, all local pubs now serving the same low quality,bland . unrecognisable food- such a shame as a few years ago it was decent pub food - cant recommend any food - we have tried most options .Service and staff fine .

Lovely pub here all the time helpful staff always served with a smile, Sarah in particular goes out her way to ask if we are ok hows the fam etc.

Great beers and good food , for the dog lover and walker its a very friendly and tolerant establishment. Good range of ales too .St Austell brews are one of my favourites you can't always get them in the Midlands .it's an every weekend thing for me .try the hot waffles with fruits of the forest with ice cream and syrup.

I only give the 4 a food as I was expecting more steak on my open steak sandwich and the peppercorn sauce had while peppercorns in which aren't nice to bite into

Food took over an hour to arrive and even ice-cream took just as long

Tried the chicken snitznel off the new menu and it was delicious.

Been here many times but can honestly say I was disappointed with the food this time

Sunday afternoon and one member of staff serving behind the bar! 2 out of the 4 meals good. One meal cold and the other completely the wrong order. Come on Hare and Hounds you can do better! Such a pity it was always so good. The 8 people behind me waiting at the bar also not happy. So disappointed as this was a last minute treat for my sister and brother in law before heading back to America. We jumped into the car and went to The Country Girl for dessert, coffee and a couple of more drinks. A warm welcome there and great service.

Sorry for the bad review but I have no choice I made a inquiry for a table for 16 on line and the message said someone will get back to you it as been 36 hours and nothing I've rang 10 times over the last 24 hours and no one picks up left 2 messages and we still have no communication What a shame and they say pubs are struggling 😕

Ordered dinners and sweet, through just eat, they said it had been delivered, but it wasn't to us , called and pub said not their responsibility, so I got no food and no cash, great won't be using this again !

Value for money solid meals, Sunday lunchtime fed wife kids and granny for under 100£.
