Amazing food, a great vibe and very friendly service.

This was our second time at the Orange Bird and we were thoroughly impressed yet again. We took my parents out for a birthday meal and everything we had was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the jollof rice as a side and the aubergine. One star knocked off for atmosphere because where we were sat was next to the door and it was very loud. My wife and I look forward to dining at the Bird again in the future, and it's become a sure recommendation to all our friends We spent £168 in total including a bottle of wine between four adults. The meat options are quite expensive but everything else is great value

Went to Orange Bird after receiving several recommendations and it definitely lived up to expectations! The food was phenomenal, we had the aubergine, sea bream, chicken, hummus and peppermint tart. All were incredible, and Eve was a lovely hostess, helping us with recommendations and even answering questions about what was in the sauces etc. Can’t thank the staff enough, we will definitely be coming back! Such a lovely experience at The Orange Bird - Great service and delicious food, all made with quality ingredients. Will definitely look to return, this time to try the steak which was sold out when we went! Highlights:- - Peri Peri chicken (so juicy, a must order) - Aubergine starter (but make it a large) - Flatbreads with carrot mollasses Only criticism I'd say is in general the spice levels are quite mild (for our palette), but understand SA cuisine may not have the same punchy spice flavours as other regions.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Welcoming, helpful staff. We shared everything. All the dishes were outstanding, perfectly cooked and full of delicious flavours that wowed our palates. It’s only small so you need to book well in advance. Highly recommend it, looking forward to our next visit already!

We have been to this restaurant quite a few times now, sometimes taking visiting family & friends. They and we cannot praise this restaurant, the food and the team working there, highly enough. It is consistently truly exceptional.

A fantastic introduction to this fabulous local restaurant. I have been trying for months to get a table. I now know why. Not too many covers make this an intimate dining experience with a warm informality that puts you instantly at ease. We dined with friends and ordered the whole menu to sample dishes we haven't experienced anywhere else - the flavours of S. Africa in N.W Sheffield! Our hostess and co-founder was superb, recommending wines and keeping the yummy food flowing from starters to mains to desserts - we experienced it all and there was not a bad / disappointing dish to be found! Needless to say we will return and look forward to introducing others to Orange Bird.

Was highly sceptical about coming here due to the menu being different to anything I’ve tried - but it’s some of the tastiest food I’ve ever had. All our table was extremely happy with the food, service and drinks option. Highly recommend coming here, especially the masala fries and flatbread!

Amazing food, great service. Staff were very patient helping us choose a drink. I wish you were open more hours as I’d love to go on the spur of the moment, but if it keeps the food so good and reasonably priced it’s worth the trade-off.

This is a really warm and welcoming place with a short/seasonal menu (everything we tried was excellent). There are small plates/starters, larger “main” dishes and sides but all are good to share. We had the mosbolletjies (a sweet/savoury bread) served with whipped butter-gorgeous-before we went for a main and a side dish each. Between us we ordered the peri peri chicken, the braii sea bream, curry butter chips and a side of morogo (I think this veg dish was my favourite-chickpeas and South African greens making a satisfying, flavoursome and earthy accompaniment which I could have quite happily eaten on its own). The fish was out of this world. Incredibly light and fresh but with an, almost umami, richness that comes from the butter and smokiness of the braii. The contentment and satisfaction that comes at the end of your meal is from the range of flavours, maximum freshness and perfect cooking. Hosting and service was excellent and thoroughly attentive. Would not hesitate to recommend and we already know what we want to try when we go back.

Not being familiar with South African food, I was very pleasantly surprised. The meals were so tasty that we ordered an additional dish after the main courses just to check it up - and it didn't disappoint! We drank South African orange wine (you'd be forgiven to confuse it with a full-bodied dry rose) which complemented the food very well. My only regret was that the portions were not bigger. The premises are quite small and can be very busy. You'd expect such a lovely eating place to want to attract more people to experience it, possibly in better comfort.

We've eaten here several times and never had an experience that was anything short of excellent. The food is fantastic, tastes great, well presented and the menu changes a few times a year. The service is always great. It's a small venue, but doesn't feel over crowded or cramped and the atmosphere is relaxed. Thoroughly recommend - it's popular so book in advance or check for cancellations if you can't wait!

Went for a birthday dinner here, and we both really enjoyed it. The restaurant itself is small and cosy, all service was friendly and the food/flavours were both pretty unique and really memorable. The sea bream and morogo in particular were great. Would definitely go back to try the things on the menu we didn't get around to!

The food was wonderful and the staff were so friendly, the only let down was feeling a bit rushed. As soon as we had said no to the dessert menu, the bill was brought over to us without asking and shortly after they brought the card machine over. We were there for about 1:15 in total and spent quite a bit of money, so it felt like we were being hurried about. This was a shame as we were having such a lovely time and really enjoying all other aspects. I would definitely recommend for the food but not if you want to spend a quality time over a meal and a few glasses of wine.

One of the true delights of living in Sheffield is discovering lovely little eateries who offer food and value in equally excellent measure. Orange Bird is one of those places and it's easy to see why you have to book well in advance. A small but varied menu (photo hopefully attached), reasonably priced drinks (including South African Castle Lager) and a few surprisingly good sides made for a truly lovely dining experience. Notable: Starters... Mosbolletjies & Mother in Law Madame flatbread. Sides Spicy Peanut Morogo Smoked Jollof Rice Mains. Lamb Sea Bream Ok, they changed the menu fairly frequently so there'll always be something new to discover. Service was lovely and human without being at all stuffy. It's lovely.

A very delicious experience! Don’t think there was a crumb left between us. We had a great time celebrating a special birthday, we wanted to try everything and we nearly succeeded but a few dishes left to try so will definitely be back! I think the peppermint pudding is still on my mind…

Updated this as it THE best food you can get in Hillsborough. Still the most exciting addition to the Hillsborough shops. The cooking is never not perfect, the flavours are always amazing. Still love it!

First time at this restaurant with a group of friends. We tried a lot of different things between us and were all very impressed with the quality and flavours. The menu was short - just four main course options - a lamb, pork, fish and vegetarian dish - with some sides but we felt this was a good thing rather than stretching the kitchen. Anyway, I could have just eaten the starter of flat bread with carrot molasses all night! Service was really friendly and the person serving us made a particular effort to accommodate a friend not wanting anything too spicy. Place was buzzing, even early-ish on a weds evening which shows its popularity. Definitely recommend a visit.

Food is just gorgeous, one of my favourites in the whole of Sheffield. Would love more vegetable sides eg grilled tenderstem broccoli but that's only a slight thing. But absolutely recommend!

Went for lunch on Saturday and had such a wonderful time. We arrived a little bit early but were shown to our table straight away. The food was all delicious and came very quickly. The service was lovely and the restaurant had such a cosy and homely atmosphere. We hope to return in the future!

Highly recommended by colleagues of mine, I booked a table for the anniversary dinner of me and my partner👭🏻. The food was really delicious! The ingredients are very well matched and superised us with some fresh taste. The seasoning is just right and does not overshadow the original flavor which I appreciate a lot. Btw, the tablewares are lovely, too. Service wise, we got served to the only cornered table which we have to sit by each other instead of face to face. As the only two Asians in the room, we felt a bit in the situation of 'Asian Corner' that Asian diners was segregated to one part of the room away from the other guests. Of course, I think it was just an unintentional act. We asked twice politely that if we can move to one of the other two-person tables available, but refused by the owner for reasons like those tables will be combined for bigger group later and other people booked for two hours which is longer service time than ours. Despite the fact that these two reasons above contradicts each other, we accepted the seat and choose to respect the difficulty of managing a successful restaurant.

We've been multiple times to orange bird and are always impressed. Amazing food and service, and they were very accomodating for the allergies in the group.

Delightful venue with charming hostess and a view into the busy kitchen. The menu is not extensive, allowing for the kitchen to focus on a smaller number of high quality dishes. The food was delicious and offers a blend of South African-inspired classics as well as more playful fusion plates. The caramelised aubergine and the bitterlekker sorbet were particular hits.

We are 4 veggies and had a wonderfully imaginative and tasty meal here. Lovely efficient service and welcoming atmosphere.

An absolute joy of an experience. From the atmosphere and smell on entry to the lovely warming service, it was ana amazing evening. Whilst not wanting to pick out a single meal, the masala flatbread and aubergine dish were both incredible. Some of the best plates of food I have had in recent memory. Thank you and bonus points for the washed milk punch.

Fantastic date night venue. Both of us really enjoyed the food, the menu was not 'busy' and the result is food which far exceeded expectations. Wine list was great, very interesting orange wine on menu which I do recommend. We had olives and a masala baked flatbread with molasses. Which was delicious. For mains we ordered the lamb curry and half peri peri chicken (very different to nandos). You order the main as a plate and you need to order your sides separately. The curried chips were sensational, best chips I've had in memory. We both had dessert and they were lovely I had the miso malva pudding which I would describe as a sweet pudding not a million miles away from sticky toffee pudding, but at the same time very different. Genuinely impressed with the service and the vibe of the restaurant. We will be back again and I suspect I'll take clients here in the future. Different and not something I've come across before, but different in the best possible way. You need to check the menu as I went about a week and a half ago and the curry has been rotated out, the menu can be downloaded from their website.

I went with a friend to celebrate her birthday, so good to see somewhere buzzing mid-week! We’d heard great things about the food so asked the staff to pick our dishes for us. It was incredible! Every dish was delicious. The atmosphere was great and the setting lovely. Brilliant, brilliant place and team.

Visited with my niece to celebrate completion of her masters. She loved the sweet soft bread and I loved the flat bread with carrot molasses. The sea bream was perfect and I don’t know what they do to make the aubergine taste so good. Another fabulous meal.

Had a meal at The Orange Bird yesterday evening. My first time. My wife's second. Just perfect. Service was so good. Small dishes were so tasty and my pork main was tender. Couldn't fault a single thing. Looking forward to another meal there asap. I would highly recommended this place for anyone, and everyone, to share in a perfect evening out.

Blown away with the food. I went for the veggie aubergine: it was unexpected in texture, full of flavour and super filling ! Can't wait to visit again and save a bit of space for the puddings ! For veggies: run don't walk !

This is my favourite restaurant in Sheffield, which is why I now choose here for any special occasions & take people here when they come to visit me. I’ve never had a dish that hasn’t been super tasty. This occasion was for my Birthday & so I saved room for dessert which did not disappoint. The service by Anne and the team was super friendly and helpful as always. I’ll continue to recommend this place to everyone who asks me about where to eat in Sheffield :)

Not just a meal, but an out of this world experience! The Orange Bird is an outstanding restaurant in the heart of Hillsborough. Serving up unique flavours, every bite better than the last. I've visited it a couple of times now with a friend and can't wait to come back again. The bread starters are melt-in-your-mouth incredible. Peri-peri chicken is cooked to perfection and the miso malva pudding is a showstopper. I have never tried anything like it! Service is friendly and efficient and I really like how stylish the restaurant looks. Very chilled playlist in the background too. The Orange Bird is a must go.

Excellent everything - friendliness, speed of service, food quality, atmosphere. I cannot wait to go back. Best meal out in Sheffield, by a very, very long way. Every dish we ate was absolutely exquisite, but the malva pudding with the stout ice cream was outstanding. The orange wine was also a real find. Too often somewhere you've been recommended and have been waiting to try can disappoint, but this place surpassed expectations which were already high.
