The Peckham Pelican in Southwark

For a bar, they make some STELLAR pizza and cake. Seriously, the food here is comparable to specialised pizza restaurants and bakeries. Drinks are made fast and efficiently with a relaxed atmosphere. Great hangout spot for friends. I recommend getting an English Garden as a drink here.

The Pelican is an amazing cafe/pub with kind staff and a great atmosphere. The bagels are delicious and the food selection has been expanded recently with some tasty soup of the day and baked goods. All remarkably affordable. Great quiet place to work during the day, and a lively place to share a pint during the evening.

Very small beer selection. Beer was served lukewarm and flat, worst pints I've had in London for a long time. I had to wait at the bar for a while, being the only one there, as the 3 bartenders were chatting. They all saw me but carried on chatting. Odd mix of tables and seating, often hard to find a seat and often have to share a table with others, but the atmosphere is decent. Chief redeeming factor is pints are ~£5, but it's not quite cheap enough to make up for how bad the pints were. Would not recommend. Did not try the pizza, but they only have a food hygiene rating of 4.

It's not a up & coming business area based on history drama challenges riots crime shootings etc?! The Area has i challenges every day based on news coverage? Take away some of the business that are run down?! Look on top of the roofs of business that sell food items!

I went there once, it really seems a cool place. I just had a couple of beers (very good) and I do not think they serve any food. Nice if you want to have some beats with friends in a relaxed and young environment. Ps a pint goes for 5 £

I agree with the "artsy" comments, and I am a bit undecided on whether the place is purposely like that or just neglected, but either way, it did the job. Prices are definitely not neglected, fyi, but not more expensive than any other pub in the area either. There are some food options which I did not get to try but those seem to be priced all right. The outside area is a nice touch for those rare summer days when you actually can actually sit outside but at 22:00 you will be asked to move inside.

Pelican is a really great place to come and work if you want a laid-back vibe with cheap drinks and food. It’s not for everyone as it has a studenty vibe and it’s not going to serve you hipster-grade coffees or brunch, but I like this.

An absolute essential part of South London

Always enjoy the White Russian cocktails here, and they’re a decent price. Pizza is good too, but the ‘artsy’ vibe that they’re going for is more just dingy and unkept, thanks to the ripped sofas and dirty bathrooms. Staff appeared dismissive too. Besides this, a nice place to hang out in the summer.

Best pub on earth. Gives the opportunity for artists to show artwork on its wall space. Come and find out for yourself why so many students from next door Camberwell College of Arts come here to chill after uni.

If you wanna wait 30 mins for a sandwich, this is the place to go.

The vegan chocolate cake was truly awful - weirdly salty and not soft at all. Had a lovely cup of tea but the cup was chipped in a chunk-of-the-lip missing way, not in a cute way. The general vibe is okay, very hipster but the sofas were way too ripped up and for a place that charges £6.40 for a bagel, they should definitely have more than just filter/caffitiere coffee as an option.

My friends and I frequent this spot and decided to visit for our friend’s birthday. He had brought a bottle of wine with him. We were there for a few hours, having ordered multiple drinks and pizzas when the manager approaches us and sees the bottle of wine on the floor. Rather than asking us to pay a corkage fee, which we would have been happy to pay, he decided to dress us down over not supporting a local business and accused us of being disrespectful then confiscated the bottle until we were ready to leave. Needless to say, this kind of killed the vibe for the rest of the evening. Bit of a shame as we usually enjoy this bar. Apart from that, the rest of the staff are always very friendly and the food and drinks are very nice.

Been going there for years and it's still as good as always.

The Most hipster place you’ll find in Peckham.

A lovely venue, great quirky coffee and bagel shop. Friendly staff and tasty ingredients. They also help out with the charity "South London Cares", that's how I found out about them. Definitely support them. The bagels are always freshly prepared and very tasty, and although I've never had a cake from there, the people I'm with have, and have only good things to say about them. Disappointed the eggs are gone though :P

Decent spot for a pint, the IPA was top shelf and reasonably priced. Just wished they stayed open later than they do.

There is definitely room for an art focussed hangout spot in this area- but the whole point is it should be unpretentious. This place is not welcoming, the staff are surly, vibe is a bit dingy. A shame because it has potential to be the kind of place you could lounge and work in comfortably. Also don't expect anything to change because they have some of their worst reviews framed as a mark of pride.

Cute little bar. Unfortunately when I visited they didn't have the gluten free beer (stock issues) but usually they would have daura damm. The prices are reasonable, the seating areas are comfortable and they allow dogs. I've heard they also do great live events. The pizza also looked delicious! Also there are gender neutral bathrooms.

Bagels are nice. Only filter coffee though, which was a bit mediocre. And the place doesn't have WiFi. Some of the furniture's also going beyond "hipster-y" and just into plain "scuzzy" too. The staff seemed bored and distracted. It looked like they didn't have much to do.

Had a birthday party here - reserved a few tables at one end of the bar. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good selection of drinks and communication via email was prompt and easy. Would highly recommend!

A good venue to hang out with friends for a chilled weekday evening, or sit and read, or bring a laptop and get on with work for several hours. Wifi can be patchy, ....as can their customer service. My favourite moment was when they had no more clean cutlery, and they suggested I pop next door to buy my own.

One of my favourite places in South London. Very chilled out, nice music, friendly staff and good food on small menu. Really cheap too. Would recommend for evening drinks or catch up with friends. It is rugged for sure, but doesn't claim not to be. Always enjoy any time there.

Great pub that’s popular with locals and students. Famous for its 2.50 cans of Red Stripe but also has delicious pizzas in the evening and hosts a vegan brunch pop up on Sundays.

Favourite spot in Peckham! You can come here to have a coffee, a bite, a drink; to eat, study, work, socialise, attend an event since the organise lots of nice things. It’s cool and has its own aesthetics. Definitely a nice place to go anytime during the day or the week! There’s a small outside sitting area too, which is nice, especially if you smoke. Quite cheap in my opinion and as far as it concerns the menu, there are lots of vegetarian/vegan option with Sunday’s brunch to be strictly only vegan! Check out their happy hour deals too!

We came for a drink and sausage roll snacks which were great. However, the kitchen area didn't seem to have an extract fan so the whole place was smokey and smelt oily which does not bode well with wanting to wear your clothes for the rest of the day..

Cheap booze and nice atmosphere

Nunca estuve en un lugar tan sucio en el Reino Unido y no puedo creer que tenga permiso para servir comida. ¿Todo sucio, toda la vajilla astillada, inodoros sucios con lavabo para lavarse las manos en la habitación principal? 2 camareras, una con el pelo largo suelto, que inevitablemente termina en nuestra comida, sin disculpas ni sorpresa. No había nadie allí, una chica ocupada la otra en su teléfono, el piso estaba lleno de hojas y tierra. Se ve sucio desde afuera pero adentro es peor. Es un accidente en cuanto a la salud solo esperando que suceda.

El Peckham Pelican es un gran espacio frente a la South London Gallery. Es realmente acogedor con muchos sofás desgastados y muchas mesas y espacio para trabajar en su computadora portátil. El ambiente es sin duda lo más destacado. Sólo tenían café de filtro y una selección muy limitada de bocadillos tostados. El personal parecía aburrido y sin inspiración trabajando aquí. Pero aún así calificaría este lugar por la comodidad del lugar real.

I had a brunch here last Saturday with my sister who is a veggie. As a meat eater I was pleasantly surprise with how tasty the breakfast was. I have to mention that the sausages were delicious. The vibe is chilled and very cool. A little cold in side so take a jumpy. Lovely quirky stop for a norning chat ***

A very nice place near Camberwell university, great place to chill and work if you live around Peckham, its affordable and the food is pretty good, their Pizza is great, The staff are nice.

I am a regular at the Pelican. I like the atmosphere, the fact its quiet during the day and that the coffee is cheap. The customised bagels are a must. Its also a good place to go for a few drinks in the evening. The staff are friendly, and you absolutely don't get the feeling that they want you to clear off the moment you have finished your drink.

We came here for a party recently, it's a pretty large place and cosy. Games available, which was really good as an ice breaker. Prices fine, food looked good. Small table of itailians nearby raving about the pizza. Shut earlier than I expected, maybe 10/11?

Stopped by for an enjoyable- if messy- sausage sandwich at lunch - friendly laid back staff brought me plenty of napkins. Would go back for evening performance and dinner.

The pizza here is very tasty and it is a nice roomy space but I find the atmosphere is lacking a little and the food service can be pretty slow with an unwillingness to accommodate. Not an unpleasant experience but just not it for me!

soggiornavamo all'hotel Peckham Best Western, e abbimo cenato una sera in questo locale vicino l'albergo. Molto particolare lo stile industrial. Abbiamo mangiato la pizza, non è come quella italiana, ma è comunque molto buona! :)

We spent a couple of hours in this very hipster cafe which, to give it some credit, was fun thanks to the trivial pursuit that my partner and I cheated our way around until we eventually drew (no surprises haha). But seriously, only 1 member of staff smiled the entire time we were there. Polite or cheerful disposition were clearly not very high up on the job description at this place. Good food - devilled cheese on toast with chorizo and DIY bagel with good fillings were particularly delicious. We had cafetiere coffee (not a fan of filter) which was freshly ground and made so tasted good. Service with a smile did not happen, nor did any sort of customer service actually, it seemed like I was an inconvenience to dare approach the desk to order. Menus are limited so I had mine nicked before I could order. Food good. Board games good. Coffee good. Atmosphere average. Service fine. Staff attitude dismal.

With intriguing decor, a wide range of customers and great individual art on the walls, this place was cosy and lovely with the most amazing cheap and delicious pizza!!!!

Me paré aquí una pinta rápido después de haber reservado en el hotel peckham de al lado. El Pelican es un moderno, de hormigón, muebles, etc. lugar de reuniones/pub con una gran variedad de cervezas y vinos. Hay un horno de pizzas en constante uso de detrás de la barra, así que un montón de gente eran aquellos argumentos. Me gustó tanto que me alojé en una segunda pinta!

Lo recomiendo, si estas buscando un sitio tranquilo donde leer o trabajar es ideal, la comida es muy buena y barata en comparación a otros sitios de Londres, buen ambiente y buena música. Ideal también para venir a relajarte con tus amigos. No lo dudes, pásate.

Quirky pub, reasonable prices and the pizza was delish! Made at bar in front of you, choice of toppings. Sat outside on warm evening, bags of character.

This is a hard one to review as the food is great and the beers great to. Maybe I'm too old or too unfashionable for this place but I don't really go for tables made out of scaffold boards or eating at a wallpaper pasting table either. I'm sure if I was 20 years younger I'd think this was the coolest place around.

For foreigners visiting London is an interesting place to eat in a normal place or to have dinner near your hotel or flat also for a London citicen.The furnitures, carpets and pictures delay your turn off time maybe half-century. The food is nice but nothing really special. Just take it eassy...

The staff just couldn't be nicer. Best eating out experience of my life!!!! I go here for breakfast lunch and dinner. Personally I don't care for espresso based coffee so this suits my needs just fine.

Fui con mi pareja a cenar, ya que nos alojábamos en un hotel a escasos metros (Hotel Peckham Lodge).Pedimos una pizza en la que se elegían tres ingredientes de unos cuantos, a añadir a la base de tomate y queso. Mi pizza llevaba verduritas, champiñones y queso parmesano. La pizza de mi pareja llevaba chorizo, aceitunas negras y champiñones. Las hacían en el momento en un horno de leña, la masa era fina y los ingredientes de buena calidad. Estaban bastante buenas y costaban 8 libras cada pizza, bastante barato para ser Londres.El local era bastante alternativo y acogedor. Tenía zona de sofas, mesas largas altas y mesas bajitas. Era buen sitio para conversar y trabajar con el ordenador ya que había wifi. Muy recomendable.

I've been here a few times for coffee or herbal tea and each time I say I'll give it another chance but it's just run out of chances. There is no atmosphere but I can cope with that. The tables and chairs often need a good wipe, I can even let that one go and it's proper London prices but that's just to be expected unfortunately. The coffee isn't great but the fruit/ herbal teas are really good. The staff are never that friendly, no pleasantries and they always appear busy even when there is no one being served so grabbing attention is sometimes a little awkward. They have a mug wall where you choose your own mug, could be cool but everytime I have been in, the first 3-4 mugs I have picked have been dirty with tea marks and bad staining. I just find this a little lazy. Either wash up better or buy a decent dish washer. I won't return, there are far better places within walking distance and I shall have to forego my fruit tea.

The Peckham pelican is pretty close to where I live and I can say that it is the perfect place to go when you wanna meet your friends and have a pleasant night but also when you just wanna have a cup of tea playing scrabble. The environment is warm and familiar and the staff is good as well. I'm Italian and I have to admit that they do a really good home cooked pizza! I love this place!

Staff not always very smiley, food good, tea in a mug, artsy, warm atmosphere nevertheless. Just hope the front door would close properly as not great in the winter!

I've been to The Peckham Pelican a couple of times now and it always serves great food with a chilled atmosphere. The menu is varied, the service is quick and the portions are very generous (too generous if anything!) Would definitely like to return and check out the evening menu.

A common place for me to do work and hang out. Can get cheap decent filter coffee here (although I wish they would use thermal flasks rather then leave it on the heat American style) and the place has a really nice chilled feel to it. Would recommend for a visit for sure

Visited the Peckham Pelican as it was recommended to me by a friend as a quiet place to sit and work.Peckham can be busy and hectic, but from the second I walked into the Pelican I felt calm and at ease.It's a beautifully chilled open space with tables chairs and sofas. A kind of arty relaxed vibe, with people busily working at laptops and looking chic. Plenty of plug sockets and free wifi too.I had a cup of tea and a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, which were both lovely.Highly recommended as a quiet hideaway, or as a space to catch up on work.

I had read about this place online and I imagined that it'd be good. Not really.It took me five minutes to catch the waiter's attention despite the bar being empty. No smile, no hello, no thank you. I asked if it'd be possible to order some pizza to take away. "Yes, but we have run out of cardboard boxes". "Ah. So... how should I carry it?". He just stared blankly. I didn't give up so I suggested that, since we were staying round the corner, they put it on a plate and I could bring it back. Nope. Aaaalright. We'll eat in, then.Place the order for two pizzas. They said that they'd be ready in 15 min, but took them 30. No "here you are / enjoy your meal / whatever" from the waiter when the pizza arrived. The pizzas were very nice (very very nice), but quite small, specially for the price.We left and there was no bye or thank you or anything. Seriously, IS IT THAT HARD TO TALK OR SMILE?!I wouldn't be back. Just because of the staff. I don't need them to be nice or friendly, but polite. No politeness, no coming back.

Nice relaxed atmosphere. It's quite cool that they have a selection of board games that you can play while there. It can get quite chilly. Pizza was very small but expensive.

From the outside it seems like another hipster bar and brunch extravaganza in Peckham. Unfortunately it is no more than this. In fairness, it does a reasonable bagel and is one of the few places in London to find an orangina. 'Customer service' was not a trait highlighted in the bar staff induction and seems to go amiss every time I have been. Although the bar staff look super cool so that's ok...? Not bad for a quick drink but could definitely use more work on the smiles and happy demeanour.

We had just landed after a 34 hour trip from Sydney. Stumbled across this when our hotel room wasn't ready! Cool little place, really chilled and laid back. The two guys working were nice and the breakfast was awesome! Really enjoyed it.

This place is very well set up for students with very cheap pizzas and reasonable priced beer. Not worth traveling for but great for when you can't be bothered to cook!

Can someone tell the staff to smile. The women behind the bar were more interested in each other. Another staff member outside chatting on his phone. Nobody interested in making their customers feel welcome.

Been here a few times now, usually for some event or other. Most recently an Independent Label Fair. Always a relaxed vibe and a mixed crowd. Good place to escape for a coffee or beer or two, with nice homey touches, like the pick n mix mug shelf and home-made cakes/snacks. The outside area's great in the Summer.

Been past dozens of times, went in the other day with some friends. Staff stood at the counter talking and ignoring us until they were good and ready on more than one occasion. No espresso coffee offered in favour of cafetière coffee for a silly price. Food, again, overpriced and underwhelming, rock hard toast that cut my mouth up. A perfect example of an 'all style, zero substance' by-product of London gentrification. Wouldn't recommend; much better options on offer elsewhere in Peckham basically.
