I thought it was a fantastic place to go, parking was easy and a large sign to make it very visible. The carvery was delicious and the service was very good, despite being clearly short on staff, for the amount of people.

Saved for a year for Christmas day treat. 3 course Carvery. Everything was great apart from..... waiting in a long que outside to go in with elderly people too in the cold. WHY? set an iffy atmosphere before going in. The sprouts and carrots were RAW!, not cooked atal!. We didn't want to cause our day to be ruined by asking to please cook them, so we quietly crunched through.. I just couldnt understand how they thought that it was ok to serve on a special day that cost £74. Over cooked would have been better than raw!. I thank the staff that worked there socks off with a smile. Such a shame we had raw veg.. Also not sure why beetroot ? This is a traditional English Christmas dinner, supposed; red cabbage is usually on the menu. There was one young chef on the meat why??. Poor chap, carving fast with long ques waiting patiently.. so hit and miss with portions. Albeit beautifully tender and eveything nicely seasoned...

Three of us had a fantastic carvery lunch at The Pheasant yesterday - my son said it was the best roast he'd ever had. The chef prepared a gluten free Yorkshire pudding especially for my mother, which she really appreciated. The staff were lovely and it was great value for money. This was our first visit, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

I too chose the Hake! I agree it was like the cheapest frozen supermarket fish , only mine was also dried up, as for the veg…It was the oddest combination of fish sprouts and chestnuts on top of a bed of dried up potato. Think it was probably kept warm for while. However, the staff are absolutely lovely and attentive. Especially the guy who was carving the meat he was very patient with a massive queue that we stood in for 20 minutes.

Christmas meal squashed in like sardines a very uncomfortable experience. Too loud and busy. Like a school dinner hall getting your food. I had hake , it looked and tasted like it was defrosted from the supermarket, the veg was dry and somewhat undercooked, especially the parsnips. Xmas pudding shop bought . 20 minute queue at the bar. Rubbish to be honest.

Great pub in Chippenham, attracting a complete range of ages. My visit here is usually to catch up with colleagues after work for a drink, half of the venue is just a drinks bar with a range of seating. The other half is for the carvery/restaurant. Full bar on offer, a range of lagers, ales, ciders, wines, and mixed drinks. They have a good selection of alcohol free beers and ciders, too. The carvery is a really high point. Really good value food. Definitely reccomend for families and other large groups for a reasonably priced large meal.

Warm welcome from friendly staff who seemed to be working hard to please everyone. The pheasant does try to be helpful with GF and DF requirements. The carvery was excellent with plenty of perfectly cooked veg. Sadly only a sorbet was on offer from the dessert menu. With so many vegan ice creams (which are delicious) and the wide range of plant based ingredients widely available it was a tad disappointing to watch my fellow diners tucking into their lovely desserts as l slowly sipped my drink!

Ive never really been a fan of pub Sunday roasts at any pub, but this was one of the best Mid-week evening meals I've had. Nicely cooked and very tasty Fish n Chips with mushy peas, all served hot and on a traditional plate! (The last F&C I had were from a seaside cafe in Broad Haven and was served in a wire frying basket laid on a large silver platter!) Anyway, my wife opted for the carvery and thoroughly enjoyed her meal too. With went for the sticky toffee pud for dessert which again was very nice. Only coffees and soft drinks to wash things down. The 2 young serving lads were both very polite and courteous, and didn't keep us waiting. All in all, a pleasant experience and I'd happily return for a mid-week meal again. Compliments to Amanda and her staff -×-

The Music is reminiscent of your Aunty's 50th Birthday party and the food of Iceland's budget range, although it was prepared well it had the visual appeal of a phone box (not the red ones) and lacked anything close to inspiration.. now I get that it is Pub Grub but still a little care and attention wouldn't go a miss, I honestly feel like my Chunky chips were re heated from lunch time. The food is what it is you won't leave hungry maybe depends on your appetite 😅 anyway good Beer nice session IPA on tap and the Staff even the trainee were great, if the food can match the quality of the service you will be on to a winner ✌🏼

Sorry to say but The Pheasant Carvery was well below the expected standard. Was not advised at all that you had to order the vegetarian option when placing order. So one carvery out of 4 was just the stuff in pots. Veg containers were almost empty, which meant you got the dregs. Broccoli was hard as were the larger parsnips. In general it was a disappointing visit. Staff were not very attentive, both on the carvery serving staff de and while trying to pay.

From the extremely efficient lady who took our booking over the phone right through to the quality and value of the food our experience has been 5* excellence. A very busy venue, decent free parking, a superb booking system and staff that other venues must be envious of this was a quality experience. We were a party of 8 including a baby and a couple of the party had special dietary needs. Kesia was our dedicated server and she met us at the reception and escorted us to our table and was 100% attentive throughout our meal. A mix of al a cart and carvery meals well timed on delivery - plenty of first rate food. I did note whilst I was at the venue that post the Pandemic a lot of customers seem to be out of the habit of leaving a tip which is a shame as excellence of service throughout an establishment like the Phesant certainly deserves recognition. Thank you.

After a few years since lock down we finally managed to get back to the Pheasant. And, oh how disappointing it was. In days past, alot of days, I used to run the Original Carvery at the Cumberland Hotel in London. To give you an idea of how busy we were, the restaurant seated a maximum of 100 customers, and we regularly served 500 customers in an evening, so my comments come a point of view with masses of knowledge and experience. So, we arrived at 1pm anticipating a lovely lunch as my treat from my wife. The greeting was pleasant enough, but considering the place was about 1/3rd full I found it strange that, I assume was the manager, had to refer to the computer to get us a quiet table. So we sat down, and waited and waited and waited for someone to take our drinks order. The Mrs is vegetarian, so her nut roast had to be pre ordered before we went to the Carvery to get our meal. Absolutely no problem here. Less than 5 minutes later, a different young lad came to our table saying that we should go up to the Carvery, with our little plastic tokens to get our meal. Great, we thought, we were both hungry, and I especially was really looking forward to eating the excellent food I remembered from our previous visits. We queued happily but the line wasn't very long as, as I've already said, the restaurant wasn't very busy. Our turn came, and my wife presented her token for her nut roast. The chef, who wasnt in chefs whites this visit, asked if she had ordered the nut roast. Obviously we said yes, but her meal hadn't been ordered or warmed up yet. He was very apologetic and advised her to get her vegetables, and he'll get someone to bring her nut roast to our table. Me being the greedy guts, had the large plate. Plenty of meat, but only beef or gammon to choose from, as when we there before. Plates full, we went back to our table, and this is where things started to go downhill. The meat was utterly tasteless. The beef was seriously overcooked, and i think being kept hot in a steamer. The brocolli and cauliflower cheese was seriously overcooked, and the cauliflower cheese lacked any actual cheese. At no stage did anyone approach us to check if we were enjoying our meal. I needed to go to the toilet, and in the meantime my wife asked for the bill. Now, according to the menu, the carvery is charged at £13.00 per person, Monday to Friday, so we were a bit curious her nut roast was charged at £14.00. I know that it's only a £1 difference, but in these strange times, every penny counts. We called the manager over and she agreed that the menu should show the price for ALL the meal variants. She, however, insisted that the price was £14.00 and now became shirty about it. We confirmed that we were only prepared to pay the Monday to Friday price. Her words to this were "I will allow this concession this time, but the next time you come, you'll have to pay full price" We have both come from the service industry and have a combined experience of over 75 years. I found her rude and completly out of order over just £1. We will NOT be returning, not just about her attitude but how poor the food has now become. I have to reiterate that the Manager was absolutely out of order, rude and arrogant. How was she not to know that i was the new CEO, checking out some of the restaurants?

We haven't been at The Pheasant since lock down so was really looking forward to an amazing experience again. How disappointed were we. For those who don't know my background, I used to manage The Original Carvery at the Cumberland Hotel. Our highlight was serving 500 customers in one evening without a grumble from anyone, so my observations of the Pheasant comes from alot of experience. On arrival, the restaurant was fairly quiet, but still we asked for a quiet table. The Manager had to refer to her computer!! So we were sat at our table, waiting to place our drinks order. Our server was busy to wondered why he got us but more on the Manager later. We ordered 2 Americano with hot milk and a pot of tea for the Mrs. The Mrs being vegetarian also ordered a nut roast. Even before out drinks had arrived, we were invited to go to the carvery but another waiter . So, like good little customers we obeyed. We queued behind 4 other customers. Our turn came, we gave our little plastic tokens over, and the Mrs requested her nut roast. The chef looked confused and asked had we preordered, and said of course. He went into the kitchen and came back saying it was nowhere near ready. We had wondered whether there had been enough time to the chef. He said, please choose your vegetables and he'll get someone to bring the nut roast to our table. I was famished and wanted the large plate. All good so far. Got my veg and we went back to our table. There, waiting for ys was our drinks. A pot of tea, and 2 Americanos but only one with milk. The food was very average, I would actually say poor. My meat was utterly tasteless, the Yorkshire pudding soggy, the stuffing was like a bullet, the broccoli totally overcooked, the cauliflower cheese was probably the worst I'd ever eaten and completely devoid of cheese. At no point were we EVER asked if we were enjoying our meal. While I was in the toilet, the Mrs asked for the bill. On the menu it said that the price of the Carvery varied during the week. Mon - Friday.......£13.00 Saturday.............£13.50 Sunday................£14.00 So imagine our surprise when the Vegetarian option was billed at £14.00. Now I know it's only £1 difference but there was absolutely no indication of an increased price. The Manager came over and agreed that the menu should show the correct price difference but was insistent that the cost was £14.00. We calmly explained that we were not prepared to pay the inflated price. The Manager, very reluctantly, said, quite rudely I might add, "on this occasion I will allow a concession" and as she walked off said "but next time you're here it'll be full price" Her attitude was horrendous and, still, at no point, did she ask if we'd actually enjoyed our meal. Sadly to say we WILL NOT be returning and, sadly we cannot recommend The Pheasant Carvery

Came here while on holiday in upper seagry, went because of the star rating and reviews and closeness to where we were staying but can’t understand the good rating?! Food was awful, you get what they call all the trimmings with your roast, which is a large Yorkshire which was all crunchy and disintegrated when you cut into it, the sausage had a hard chewy skin and was mushy on the inside and the stuffing was bland and resembled the toughness of a golf ball. Meat was fine but only got 1 measly slice (I had the beef) the potatoes were ok but all the veg options were badly cooked. All watery and over cooked. The cauliflower cheese just tasted of cauliflower not a hint of cheese and the gravy was so bland just gravy powder mixed with water. All the condiments table was a mess sauce spilt every where and so was the serving area. One positive I have is the young waiter, he was friendly and efficient, we gave him a tip

Lovely place to spend a bank holiday lunch. Staff were friendly, swift and attentive. Food was excellent - I had the carvery, and couldn't fault the amount of food on offer! A huge roast dinner and a coke for under £20 was excellent value - thank you!

We got the carvery and it was delicious! The roast beef and gammon were melt in your mouth good. There was a good variety of vegetables as well, all though the roast potatoes were a bit soft. It’s also dog friendly, which was lovely. Amazing staff that were very kind and polite. Highly recommend.

Disapppointing. First visit for Sunday roast. Good service, but average food. Meat slices modest size. Very limited range of vegetables, compared to other places. Drinks quite pricey.

The food was outstanding, you don't need to have a large plate as the standard plate is more than enough. The staff is very friendly and I would go back there next time I go to Chippenham. Highly recommmended.

Bit dead inside the pub. 400 quid for a buffet that consisted of chips and sandwichs. Not impressed.

The Pheasant has a gluten free menu, which was an important factor for one member of our group. The carvery provides a wide variety of vegetables and represents good value for money. The only criticism I would make is that there were only two types of meat to choose from. The staff, as usual, were very helpful and friendly.

Lovely old inn in lovely old town, everything dating back to before Columbus discovered a new world. Walked in, sat down, broke the chair. Well, my son is a big bloke, I'm a big bloke. The chairs are perhaps a bit less than sturdy. Waiter whisked it away and we gingerly sat down again. We went for the three starters plus bread and olives as a light lunch. Pork terrine Fish bites Sumac squid All very good. A very nice low alcohol cider (I'm driving) I went to find the loo - it's upstairs, and a bit of a fierce staircase. I actually had my back to the proper staircase and went up what must have been the servants stair. I dare say if you had restricted mobility the ladies could be used. Unusually I had cash , but they prefer you to pay with the card. Not a problem for me, but I was a bit surprised

Went here earlier this week, started off really nice, the atmosphere was great and the staff was friendly. Me and my significant other ordered food, starters and mains, the starters came out fast and was nice, however we then waited quite awhile for the mains, witch was ok at first however when they arrived they wasn’t good, my significant other had a fish and chips witch they did enjoy however my “mega mixed grill” was far from mega, the steaks was way over cooked (well done) and the chicken was so dry you’d think it had been left out in the sun for hours, dispute this we was still going to have desert until it took the staff over 10 minutes to clear out plates even though we had stacked them on the edge of the table to show we was done with them. This was also a very quiet night with only 2 other tables in the lounge eating. Made the whole thing just feel awful, which is a shame given how well it started won’t be coming back.
