Visited for a family meal to celebrate my grandsons birthday. There were 10 of us, we ordered our food separately, but at the same time, however my dinner came a good 15 minutes before everyone else's. We did say we were all together, and don't understand why the food couldn't come at the same time. However, the food was very nice, it was a nice pub too.

One of the worst Sunday lunches ever. The staff haven't a clue what they're doing. My so called 'waiter' was wearing the filthiest pair of jeans I've ever seen. The table adjacent to mine was given all the wrong orders. One customer asked for an Irish Coffee and was given a large Bailey's. Two dogs were fighting in the restaurant; and my empty plate stayed in front of me for 20 minutes. The lighting was so dim that I needed the torch on my phone to read the menu. It would almost be unfair of me to go on, but the Portsmouth Arms really does need someone at the helm who knows what he or she is doing. I won't be returning any time soon, and judging by the comments I overheard from other tables, the repeat bookings, that are essential to pub restaurants, will soon disappear.

For our Christmas party this year we decided upon The Portsmouth Arms. From the very beginning the staff were on hand to help with the planning, from menus to drinks vouchers and even bacon sandwiches later in the evening. A great time was had by all. The feedback from the team has been incredibly positive both in regards the venue and the overall evening. The sausage rolls were a particular favourite. Thanks to all the team for making the party a huge success. I'm certain we'll be back again.

We've been here on a few occasions, as the location is convenient when returning to the area from the southwest, and never had any problems. Hitherto, it has even proved good enough that we would journey a little further to come here. Unfortunately, tonight's experience (28/11/24) was "we-will-never-come-back-here" bad. While I appreciate new staff have to be trained, having to go to the bar to order because the staff haven't been seen in half an hour, having to remind staff of what the menu actually includes, having to go to the bar to retrieve orders that haven't been fulfilled, and then having a dismissive "yeah, we're busy" from the senior front of house lady when these issues were raised... Never again. I'm doubtful the management of the pub even care.

Went here yesterday(17/11/24).we were a party of 21 which was booked in advance including pre ordering the main meals.when making the booking my husband asked if they could handle a large booking on a Sunday to which the answer was yes no problem.first of all they had no order for 2 of us so we reordered it then 2 lots turned up,then we were told there probably wouldn't be enough beef, that was sorted out by us changing some of our order.the food arrived in drips & drops.3 of us waited another half an hour for our food.mean while other smaller tables were being served their food.i did complain to which I was told they only had a small kitchen & only 2 chefs working.we did get the 3 late meals taken off the bill but this was a surprise birthday party for me & I felt there apologies were not meant. I would not recommend going there & we will definitely not go again.we all paid alot for our food with drinks & desserts.some of the dessert which should of been hot were cold.please don't waste your money here.staff weren't helpful at all.

From the outside this pub is a lot more than inside, it has a nice garden with plenty of tables, a large play area for children and has a beautiful thatched roof. Inside it's just an average pub. The staff aren't too bothered about being there or whether you're there or not. Ordering food and drink is by a QR code, which didn't work so we had to then re&order at the bar anyway. The food was fine, served it's purpose as sustenance on a long journey but it's fairly basic and I don't imagine too much "cheffing" goes into it. But for a total bill of around £55 for 5 people, you can't ask for much. Service was pretty quick after ordering though.

First time visiting with a client for some lunch. Sat outside and ordered inside at the bar. It took a very long time to get served and even noticed. Someone was out the back packing away and oblivious to me things and then someone else came in and got served before me which is annoying. I had the steak ciabatta, wasn't worth £11.95 and felt like it was only half a portion. £3.95 for a large diet coke, felt like daylight robbery. Nice big garden and the atmosphere is the only thing that saved my lunch catch up with a client. Would I visit again, I would but would hope someone else is paying the bill!

We booked a table for 14 including 3 children, for a family birthday do. We were delighted with the pub, which we didn't previously know. We chose it because of its having a garden, a children's play area and an affordable menu. Our experience fully justified our choice as everything was excellent and the staff's efficient service made the event very enjoyable for all. They coped well with the very late arrival of two of the party due to train problems, and the allergy requirements of some of us. We would go again if in the area (we don't live locally).

Arrived to a very quiet pub. Starter came out quickly as it was Nachos and this was very nice. Long wait for the mains which were bland but passable however in one of the mains (ciabatta steak sandwich with salad and chips) in the salad was what can only be described as a tiny caterpillar crawling on it. The staff offered to do a completely new replacement, which we accepted however when it came back the markings on the top of the ciabatta which we had made to identify it were still there when it returned and the only replacement was fresh chips! I think the staff must have been crazy to think that we wouldn’t notice that we were getting the same meal back. We won’t be eating there again!

Very disappointed, beef roast was terrible, the meat was probably the worst beef I’ve ever had, wafer thin and brown very well done ( when it stated it comes medium rare) we couldn’t even chew through it or cut through it as it was so tough..we had a table at 12:30 so it wasn’t as if it has been sat there all day.. we then spoke to the waiter and explained the beef was so tough we couldn’t cut through it, and it was quite disappointing, he went away and we thought he was going to get us a fresher cut of meat or complain to the chef and resolve the issue but he came back with a steak knife and walked away.. we found this shocking but also quite funny at how bad the service was.. we decided to not complain again we thought they may take some money off the bill as the beef was un edible ( the rest of it was quite nice)but they didn’t offer a discount, so we paid in full but definitely won’t be coming back.

Been going to both Hall and WoodHouse pubs near me for years, Portsmouth Arms and Holly Blue, both are great pubs with super service and nice atmosphere. The food though in both pubs in my experience can only be described as consistently dissapointing. And I've tried and tried experiencing their efforts at least a dozen times in the past couple of years. Not once has it even been better then ok. Always something wrong with them. Always disappointed and leave wishing we hadn't given them another shot. Take today's meal ... it's making me gip thinking about it. Starters were BBQ chicken wings and chicken goujons. The goujons were ok, at least they were hot, still probably not as good as a serving of Bernard Matthews Turkey Twizzlers cooked in the oven at home but just about edible. The chicken wings however yuck yuck yuck - god knows how they cook the chicken, biting into them one could only assume they were boiled or steamed with such an unpleasant slimy texture, some of the wings had a fishy taste to them, the wings alternated in temperature, some hot and some luke warm, perhaps they where microwaved I don't know. Then to top it off a standard grade barely ok BBQ sauce is lathered over the top to mask the aboration. Awful. Then the main course, it got worse. Kids Fish goujons and chips was great, clearly they'd been freshly deep fried and looked and tasted super. Unfortunately the beans accompanying came out in a ramekin looking about as dry and shrivelled up as if they'd come out of Tutankhamuns coffin. Next up was Macaroni Cheese, billed as being gooey on the menu - it wasn't, it was dry, clearly overcooked and weirdly the portion size was tiny, I had to ask if it was off the kids menu - it wasn't. Then steak and ale pie and chips, chips were ok but the pie again all dry and crusty.....on the inside! I then had Sunday dinner, probably the worst Sunday dinner in the 45 years I've been on this planet. Absolutely I would of preferred to sit down to an Iceland £2 microwavable TV dinner - certainly would of been more succulent and tasty. The roasties were damp, the meat dryer then gandhis flip flop - every bite I had to swig down some lager to help it go down. Yorkshire looked nice but had no taste and texture like it's been made yesterday. This was all presented in a what can only be described as a lake of beetroot and gravy soup, it was horrible. Hall and WoodHouse wake up, you've got an affluent and captive growing market surrounding your pubs. I know not one person around here that speaks kindly of the food you serve. It's such a shame cause both pubs and service provided are great it's a travesty really that the food is like it is. You are missing out on a goldmine, all you need to do is make high quality freshly prepared food and I'm sure you'll get all your covers booked out every night. Aim to be a Fat Duck instead of settling to be a poor man's Harvester.

Quite disappointed on food quality with comparison to the Holy Blue nearby, which is under the same group. It is my fault to expect the tortilla chips was served under the carne and oven-cooked, but the truth is it is just served separately and missing from the beginning, and the carne looks cooked by microwave. We had ordered a mac and cheese, it seems very small and microwaved as well, not worth it's price at £11.95 The food was served really fast like 5 minutes.

Not a problem if there was a genuine issue, but being told 'it's just been really busy' - surely that's to be expected on a Sunday? It did seem to me like a lot of people were waiting for food but we received no warning about any delays. 45 min after ordering I had to get up and find a waitress who didn't seem to have an idea what's going on with our food. We then waited another 10 min before it arrived. The food was just ok (after nearly an hour wait I would eat anything anyway). I am not sure if this is standard in this place but 55 min wait for food without any update is not acceptable. Please train your staff to communicate with customers. A warning about the long wait would have made all the difference.

Although in the same Badger chain as the Holly Blue this really is not a very pleasant experience. Bar staff are more interested in their trainers than serving. Lots of smokers. Outside tables are various angles that mean your pint slides off.

Not brilliant really. I have eaten here a few years back and it was nice. My lunch was fine but others in our group had burnt food. Also my Husbands burger and chips was the same size as my Sons childs portion! Most portions were pretty poor. It also took a very long time to get the food. Obviously sadly short of staff like everywhere. We will not be back.

Used to love eating here but the menu is too restrictive for special diets and now the dinner sizes are too small. The food is not up to standard with too much cost cutting, would have more taste with microwave meals. Hall and Woodhouse need to try harder.

Portion sizes are laughably small. I thought I ordered a kids meal. We sat out side and the plates were not cleared from our table for over 2 hours. Great pub, lovely location but the management need a boost.

Good beer and large beer garden. Country style pub with thatched roof and heated outside area for the chillier times of year. Reasonable prices and great roast dinner.

Food was poor. Service was even worse , waited half an hour for our dessert order to be taken and went to the bar to give it to the bar staff. Waited another half an hour and cancelled it in the end and asked for the bill.

Visited here for lunch today as it's our local but in recent times we have opted for the Holly Blue. We should have gone to the Holly Blue today too. They run the same menu but the standard of food is not. Today we ordered 1 of the Club sandwich (no mayo or butter) and 2 ham and cheese toasties (but one as a sandwich with no mustand mayo for toddler). Nice & easy. After paying I was told that the club sandwich is mixed chicken mayo. Menu says "Toasted Club Sandwich: crisp streaky bacon, succulent chicken breast, tomato, shredded cos, mayonnaise, on sliced white or wholemeal bloomer, skin on fries" and this is what you get at the Holly Blue. It doesn't say chicken mayo. Staff really couldn't have cared left and as a result I ended up paying more for an alternative as they aren't selling what they advertise. I ordered a chicken burger (no mayo) and the girl came back after I'd ordered to confirm it had BBQ mayo and was that ok....... obviously not as it's mayo - proper hard work! The Ham and Cheese sandwich came out covered in mustard mayo and was sent back when it came back out it came out with no butter just ham, cheese and bread - £6.75 that cost! No apology. This pub has massively gone downhill since the former manager has moved on and we won't be returning.

delivery driver couldn't find my house so he parked nearby and I had to walk, which is mostly fine, but subway screwed up my order too, what was supposed to be one of the custom meatball marinara subs was just the extras I ordered and not the actual samwitch filling, hoping I get a refund but don't know how to report it and ask for one

Came here with some friends on Tuesday and was kindly greeted by two of the staff. Throughout the night I thought service was great and made me want to come back for a drink another day

Update: Popped in for a lunchtime drink today. Lovely pint at a reasonable price but £14+ for a large glass of Rioja is a bit steep. If you want two glasses or more, but a bottle. Lunchtime visit. Nice pub just off the A33 but in a village location. Reasonable size car park. Good selection of beers and larger (Youngs pub). Food is good but the menu lacks any real low-carb options for diabetics. Some veg/an options. Excellent service both at the bar and seated. Large beer garden with tented area if it's a bit damp outside. Pub is popular, esp. at weekends but you can book tables online (advised).
