The Psalter - Hotel & Bar in Sheffield

We went to The Psalter for an anniversary meal and we were both very impressed. It was a bit quiet (although it was a week night) but the food was incredible. The cheddar donuts are a must-have! The steak was perfect, the sea bream with fennel was delicious and very decently sized portions. Chips amongst the best I've had, again, excellent portion size. For dessert we had the cheesecake mousse which was so so good. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely week at the Palter. All the staff both in reception and kitchen were extremely helpful and friendly . The food in the restaurant was delicious , we will definitely eat there on our next trip to the UK.

We went here for Sunday lunch and the food and service were great. We can with our 1 year old and although they didn’t have a kids menu the chef made him a little toddler friendly portion of food. Looking forward to our next visit.

We often visit Sheffield for my daughter’s skating competitions - this place is a real gem, we always stay here. Fantastic food at breakfast and dinner, great atmosphere in the bar, great personal service and brand new rooms with nice beds and pillows. The staff is caring and friendly - asked about how my daughter went and let us stay a bit past checkout time with no hassle. We were both touched by how cosy and great this place is. The new owners and management are making a true effort to make this an outstanding boutique hotel and restaurant and their passion and knowledge is obvious. Very highly recommended.

Very welcoming with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Great service and a good choice of drinks supporting the fabulous food, we enjoyed the small plates approach of tasting and sharing the different dishes. Thank you, we'll be back!

The staff were absolutely lovely, especially the female waitress who took great interest in our daughter. It felt very child friendly and there were lots of gluten free options. Would highly recommend.

This place saved my life when I got caught out in a snow storm. Couldn't get home but checked in here at the last minute. The place was mostly closed but the night porter went above and beyond to ensure I was fully looked after. Room was compact but really nice, finished to a standard you would expect in a more expensive hotel. Breakfast was great, I ate far too much! Bar and reception staff really friendly and helpful. I was in a tricky situation regarding transport but reception left me in no doubt that - whatever happened - they would be there to help. Couldn't have had a better experience.

Attended for a 70th birthday meal on a Saturday evening at 8pm. On booking, there was £10pp deposit. The setting was pleasant, and there was a nice ambience in the restaurant. The drinks menu had options for everyone and catered for all needs. It went a little bit wrong as we were ordering. Starters ordered - no problem. We moved to the mains. The first 3 things we asked for weren't available as they had run out, that was pork belly, onions, and beet pudding. I understand restaurants run out, but it was frustrating and not the experience we wanted on our first visit. The menu isn't huge and so when things aren't available, it really limits the choice. We considered going elsewhere, but in reality, it wasn't possible. We ordered other items that we wouldn't have normally and made do. Starters - Corn ribs Patron peppers PFC - Psalter fried chicken. The starters were good. I think everyone on the table enjoyed them. Peppers were slightly undercooked and quite oily, but they were still tasty. The chicken was amazing. It was so juicy and the sauce was really flavoursome. I loved the corn. Mains - Beef sirloin (30) Lamb (20) Sprouts Chips Celeriac The steak was really disappointing. It was a small, thin steak and was gristly and quite tough. It was more of a chimichuro seasoning than a sauce. For £30 I thought it would be much better than it was. It was quite tasty once you'd chewed through the fat. I know it's quality over quantity , but the quality wasn't there. The lamb was good. There was more of it than the steak, and it was juicy. Chips were chips, with some cheese on top. I never would have ordered them ordinarily. Sprouts were good, tasty, and in a good sauce. Celeriac was very dry and a small portion. We obviously skipped pudding. I can't fault the staff - they were friendly and pleasant. I won't go back after a disappointing first visit.

I had dinner here recently. I really did want to like it to be able to support a local restaurant but unfortunately I was disappointed. The food was incredibly overpriced. They advertise their menu mainly as sharing small plates, yet the price for the small protein dishes is getting on for what I would be paying for a main meal (£30 for a small steak to share!). If you’re expecting guests to get 3- 4 plates each you need to reflect that in your prices and unfortunately the quality of the food didn’t warrant the price tag. Service was friendly but incredibly slow. We left before getting dessert in part because of the cost but also because we had been waiting for ages!

We went for Sunday lunch and had an amazing meal. The food was really tasty and high quality with local ingredients. One of our group has a dairy intolerance and the staff brought out an allergen menu and explained carefully what they could do. They really went the extra mile to be accommodating and it was so appreciated. Will definitely be back - gotta be the best Sunday roast in Sheffield!

Really exciting menu that did not disappoint, everything we ate was wonderful with the PFC starter and cod loin main being particularly exceptional. The service was excellent. We can't wait to return!

I'm from Doncaster stayed in this hotel for the night. Didn't need a taxi to get to hotel as the bars were just a 5 min walk away. .friendly staff all ways had a natural smile and bantering amongst them selves so you know the management are decent. .food was was really nice, complements to the chefs. .the room was really really clean. .definitely coming back next time I'm out in Sheffield.

5 of us ate starters, mains and desert. Delicious food and more than enough. With drinks all round under £150 so very good value. We will be back.

Had an exceptional small plate / sharer meal at The Psalter last night. You can definitely tell the owner / head chef knows what they’re doing, the quality of each dish was fabulous and the service was excellent too. They’ve done a great job with the renovations. We will definitely be back - our new fave!

Fantastic bar and restaurant since the new team took over. Really enjoyed every dish - hard to pick a favourite, and all were great for sharing. Fantastic value for the quality and deliciousness!

Stayed recently for a gig at the arena. Really lovely staff from start to finish and the room was perfect. All areas were clean and beautifully furnished. Modern lovely decoration. Bar area was lovely and the vouchers were a great bonus (provided by the hotel for 2-4-1 drinks). Great breakfast.

What a fabulous hotel... deluxe dog friendly double room is great... very modern and full of tech. Staff are great too... highly recommend!

I stayed overnight at The Psalter while visiting a friend in Sheffield and I had a very positive experience despite the short stay. The check-in process was very quick and easy. I stayed in room 3 (Deluxe King), it was quite pleasant - spacious, bright and cosy, it truly felt like being home. All the essentials were found in the room, with also an informative guide while you’re at The Psalter and in/around Sheffield. Also, there was a complimentary drink to redeem at their bar. The bar is equally as nice and it’s a place I would’ve visited more if I had stayed for longer. I wish I had opted to check-out later in the day but it’s something I’ll definitely consider should I stay here again. Thanks to all the staff - you were all friendly and approachable 😊

Rooms modern and well equipped. Good shower. Room on the small side. Welcoming staff. Free drink on arrival and complimentary water in room.

Had a really nice stay the room was lovely comfy bed spotlessly clean only downside was pillows were a bit lumpy but it was no big deal slept like a log definitely stay there again

Didn't stay as hotel guests. However we did make use of one of their function rooms. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs for our fathers wake. A beautiful space, where we had the option to be catered or self-catering

I only stopped off at The Psalter for a meeting - so no accommodation or food - but what was very evident was how welcoming & smiling were the staff; everybody from reception, bar, chef & maintenance staff all said 'Hi' & smiled. Very noticeable & very good!!

Good hotel, located away from the bustle of Sheffield while being close to everything around in Sheffield. Rooms are clean and hygienic, the bar is well stocked and really cozy. And most importantly the team is extremely courteous and helpful.

There is Yoki Social Table restaurant. It was perpect Korean food. Price is reasonable. The staffs are friendly and lovely. All the food our family ate was great.😍

Great offers on drink (BOGOF) from sunday-thursday make this place a must visit. Pizzas were also lovely. Not the best laid out bar but a great undiscovered place.

Stay was very pleasant, and service was always high. Parking and facilities are highly recommended. Coming from outside UK, I recommend bringing adapters.

I stayed at the psalter last October after a friend's wedding and it was honestly fantastic. Kaz, the housekeeper, couldn't have been more amazing. 10/10 amazing service.

My husband and I stayed at The Psalter for 12 nights while visiting family in Sheffield. The entire staff was excellent! Even before we left the United States, Megan and Eleigha couldn’t have been more helpful by accommodating our schedule changes and answering all of our questions. The rooms at the hotel are all different, with some being larger than others. If you have questions about a room or have particular needs, I’m quite sure Megan and Eleigha would be able to happily address your concerns. Upon arrival at the hotel, they welcomed us like old friends. Plus, any requests we had during our visit were promptly taken care of. Charlie, Katie and Johnny in the bar area provided drinks and lively conversation. While Kaz and her housekeeping team always had a cheerful hello, while keeping everything spotless. We have traveled a lot and I have never met an entire staff who were as professional, yet, at the same time, as warm and friendly as this outstanding team. On our next visit to Sheffield, we look forward to returning to The Psalter, our home away from home.

Good range of beers - proper ones. Very reasonably priced, as well, which is unusual for a hotel. Rooms really swish. Fancy coffee machine in ours. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Car park a bit tight. But a really lovely experience for our family gathering. Would highly recommend.

A cracking little hotel. All rooms were newly refurbished. Bathrooms were great. Staff were helpful and polite and even had little touches like bottled water in rooms and free drinks vouchers for the bar. Would recommend. For the price its a great hotel!

Myself and our entire family had a wonderful weekend celebrating my Grandfather's 90th Birthday. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. It was a very comfortable stay and the ideal place for a family reunion and celebration.

Clean room with everything clean and tidy. But the rooms are rather hot and the beds are very hard. Just below our bedroom window was a refrigeration fan with its bearings worn so could not leave the window open during night. Consequently I did not get any sleep.

Unfortunately this establishment has absolutely no regard for its neighbours, Loud music is regularly blasted out late into the night, which puts me off returning to what could have been a really handy local pub.

We wanted to stay but was a last minute booking, they couldn't accommodate us as although they had rooms they were not made-up. Very frustrating

This hotel is decent given its location (not too many options in Sheffield) and quality. The room itself was tiny and we were provided with two fans to keep it cool. The bar downstairs is alive and happening - great place to meet friends. One major downside of this hotel is the fact that there is no lift. My husband had to carry each of our bags to our room through all those stairs that undulate. All in all, a comfortable and clean stay.

Had this booked for me for one night. Price was ok but room is tiny, can't walk around the bed. Yes finish is ok as new but lots crammed in. Bathroom even smaller, need to sit on the toilet at an angle. No need for fancy dodgy Chinese mirror.. went for dinner and was told only food was pizza but no meat available for pizza. Funny as it was Wednesday and on the table a promotion showing starters and bar snacks and seasonal menu. Also said quiz night every Wednesday which I think the person turned up for but left.. also some beers run out.. had breakfast in morning that was very nice took a while but strangely they had plenty of meat so why nothing night before? Staff were good and friendly, maybe frustrated nothing was available.

I first visited The Psalter (and Roslyn Court Hotel) in 1979 and have always liked the place. Large bar with good selection of drinks (Abbeydale brewery) in a large, open plan area. We sat outside on a glorious sunny evening. We will return, it being a 10 minute walk from home (and a 20 minute walk back!!).

Warm welcome (which started a couple of days before with a lovely phone call asking me if I had any special requests...) Smart room, brilliant breakfast... chilled, friendly staff. All good.

Really lovely hotel with beautifully designed rooms. Very comfortable stay and a delicious breakfast. Handy USB charging points by the bedside, and funky art work throughout. Would stay here again!

Had my 50th party at the hotel. Charlie the manager and his team were fantastic . Amazing bar service on the night and the room for the party was a great space. Would definitely recommend. Several people stayed over and found the rooms and service to be great.

The service was fast and the staff were excellent. The food exceeded my expectations, but this was not even the best part of this place because it is dog friendly also it is a great location next to the Peak District and a quick walk to town and they do quiz nights on Wednesdays which me and friends will be going to. Both of the owners were really friendly as well, we had a nice talk about Santan Dave and Kell brook. I highly recommend this place and will be going here all the time. From Max&co

Stayed at the Psalter Hotel and Bar for a few nights whilst down on a training course. I swapped to this hotel from the hilton, I didn't not regret it! The staff on reception are polite and very attentive. Booking in was no more than a few minutes. From walking into the hotel to been taken into the room took less than 5 minutes. The rooms in this hotel are all slightly different with comfortable but qwerky decor inside, they have wireless phone changing ports either side of the bed, along with USB ports which is a nice perk. The rooms are spotless, 10/10 for hygiene and cleanliness. The beds are comfortable, never had any issues with sleep at all. The bathroom and shower have a very high luxury finish, immaculate inside. I only got to experience continental breakfast as there was no chef in the mornings I was there. There was still plenty of options, and the staff will make specific coffees if requested. The food on the bar menu is lovely! The burgers (I tried the buttermilk chicken with extra bacon and cheese),is definitely one to try.. Overall my stay in the Psalters Hotel was great and I would definitely be staying here again!

Great bar and staff. Cosy. Mixed feelings about the room. Tiny. Overpriced. A member of staff said they never used that room. I know why. I'm short and my legs came over the end of the bed. We are looking for a place to say regularly in Sheffield. I suppose we could try another room?

Good place for a crafty little beer Morretti on draft, reasonably priced and staff friendly and helpful.

Visited for a night for a show at the Lantern Theatre (less than 15 minutes walk away - well worth visiting). The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the room was nicely decorated and well supplied with fluffy towels, good quality soaps etc and tea/coffee. There’s also a good Wi-Fi connection. The room wasn’t the biggest, but it was comfortable, clean and warm. There’s bus stops very nearby (218 service from Sheffield) for we non-drivers.

Great hotel while I was working away. Food was great, room was great, connor and ben behind the bar were brilliant and the staff showing me ti my room. Bug shower, very tidy bathroom and the food was superb. Way better than other mainstream hotels. Great stuff.

A group of us had a meal with drinks and then we did the cocktail masterclass with the lovely Charlie. The food was excellent and something different from the normal. The staff were all really lovely and friendly and the cocktail masterclass was a real hoot and well worth the money. The hotel is bright and beautifully decorated and we shall definitely return

Had a lovely couple of nights here, Friendly welcome from the staff, great room, well furnished with lovely shower room on top floor, no lift but no problem. Evening meals were excellent, great bar with good choice of beers and wines Very nice heated outdoor sitting area. Bit of a walk into town but well worth it,,

Recently stayed for a single night. The hotel is modern, clean and run by nice staff and the location was great for our needs - however it's as if the mattress in our bed was replaced by a piece of concrete slab, it was so hard that neither of us got any decent sleep and rest after a long day of travelling around Peak District. It felt as if sleeping on the carpet would've been a better option. Really disappointed as everything else was great.
