The Quills in Medway

Sadly Quills has gone downhill in my opinion. Owners were rude and patronising. An additional charge of 70p for oat milk in a small coffee is ridiculous. When I raised this, the owner firstly told me that ‘I was wrong and that was for 2 coffees, darling.’ so I showed her the bill showing an additional charge of £1.40 to which she replied well it’s written on the menu, you should have looked!’ I was then told rudely by her partner that Costa charge an additional 99p for oat milk which is not at all true. I happily paid my bill which included an additional £1.30 for a wrong order but didn’t want to make a fuss as the waiting staff are always great and the mix up wasn’t really an issue. It’s a shame when business owners aren’t willing to take on friendly feedback from local customers.

Poor show for Xmas set meal Quills. I’ve been before and your main menu was good but your Xmas set meal was really poor - food was not freshly prepared all bought in - prawns like Iceland with a dip, pork loin was very synthetic and poor quality with no taste whatsoever, the pork wasn’t what I expected. The waitress was good though but food quality and cost horrendous!!

We booked a table back in October for a table in December. Received confirmation at the time of booking. On the morning of the meal, received an email “confirming our reservation from 7 to 8.30pm” This is a Christmas meal for friends who don’t get to catch up often and never would we get through a 3 course meal in hour and half. We had lots to catch up on. The restriction was never stated when we booked so be cautious, if they think they’re going to be busy and get more footfall for whatever reason, your table may be restricted. We contacted Rowlands in Gillingham, which is our usual go to for a meal, they had a table amend their meal time and could fit us in and we had the table all night. Meaning plenty of time for 3 courses, drinks and a good catch up.

Work Christmas meal 1st time we went there won't be the last definitely worth a visit. Food was hot when it arrived, considering there were 20 of us

Lovely meal at Quills yesterday evening. The burgers were deeeeeelicious! Had a really great meal and the staff were fab! Max served us, he had great banter with my husband Harry! 😅 Fab team, will definitely return, such great food 🥰 xx

Went there for our Christmas meal - very disappointing - To be totally honest, I don't think we've ever had a worse Christmas meal in all the years I've worked. What was wrong? It was sold as a Christmas Meal - no Christmas crackers or Christmas decorations Although the restaurant had been advised of who had ordered what, the food just came out with the announcing what they had to see who would grab it. The salt an pepper were presented in the containers they came in from the supermarket - all very down market. Unlike the promo photo on this site where the burger looks amazing, the starters were budget, bought in and simply deep fried / heated. Presentation was poor. I'd estimate that the starters would have cost them under 50p per serving. Main course - I didn't realise you could make a pig in blanket (note one, not pigs) that small - it was literally one inch long! Portion control was very varied - one colleague received only one slice of turkey - I had two Brussels sprouts. The restaurant even charged if wanted any extra gravy. To be fair, the dessert was nice Would we go back again - definitely not.

Normally it’s really good here, but we went as a girls night last Friday and it was horrendous,. We got an e mail telling us to be on time or lose table, so we got there dead on time and got completely ignored, When we finally managed to get someone to stop so we could tell them we had a table booked, they told us the table wasn’t ready and we’d have to wait. They made us wait by the front door by the bar for 20 mins and no one acknowledged us, We asked if we could get a drink while we were waiting and got told we couldn’t as where we were standing was in the way and we can’t drink there. We said that it was ridiculous to make us stand here, not allow us to have a drink and table not ready for 20 mins. The Manager totally ignored us and left the bar staff to take all the slack. Once we finally got on table we complained again and it was totally ignored, and manager still ignored us. Staff were very obviously getting stressed with people complaining. Food was nice but very expensive for the amount of food we got. Surprisingly, the manager can speak, as when we were leaving he said ‘thank you ladies’ in a very jolly voice, Shame he couldn’t speak when we got there and left to stand around for 20 mins and wanted to speak to him !!!

From the start we were made very welcome here at Quills. The service was excellent and extremely accommodating. All our wishes were fulfilled. The food was of the highest quality and the prices reasonable. We really enjoyed the evening and felt very comfortable. I can recommend the restaurant with a clear conscience

Went there for a cheeky little meal after we had met some friends and must say the food was absolutely on point was very good service and the food was delicious

I love coming here for my breakfasts and lunches. The food is on point and just right for my speedy breaks from work. The staff are always nice and remember my preferences. They are timely and consistent. I would recommend Quills in Rochester High Street. They never disappoint. Cheers guys.

Absolutely brilliant, I had the big one burger. It was beautiful. All the burgers were well seasoned and super tasty. All food came out hot and tasting exactly as I imagined. Brilliant service. Would definitely recommend if you want a family friendly restaurant with good food. I didn't get any pics, as soon as it came out it looked so good, I just tucked straight in.

Would of been lovely to have a hot drink included in the breakfast, the price for what you get was expensive but the food was top quality. We had a taste card I wouldn't pay full price for it. Staff were great too

A very disappointing meal. We ordered calamari and halloumi fries(quite small portions for the price, given its frozen food. Main meal: chili con carne with rice, whilst portion was fine, sadly once again it felt more like something that came out of a tin to be re heated, taste was acid ( vinegar and tomato). I ordered the halloumi fajita and whilst the hot plate was a nice to have, once again the salsa and the guacamole were definitely not made prepared or made on premises. Service was also mediocre, whilst our waiter was pleasant, the guacamole and cheese nearly ended on my lap.they forgot to bring water as we asked. For £60.00 I’d hope much better.

We have visited a number of times over the years and always had a good time, whether as a couple or as part of a large family group. As well as being a great place for dinner, they also do a really good breakfast (with a decent vegan full english). There are a number of vegan options - including a couple of very nice desserts (not just the usual sorbet!) The staff have always been friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend 🙂

Went after visiting Rochester Cathedral, we were a bit early, but welcomed in and sat down. Great friendly staff and service, food excellent and good value. I recommend if you're in Rochester. Probably book first as popular

Since the refurb the prices have increased, and believe portion sizes have decreased. No longer good value for money imo. Especially true for some vegetarian options, £16 for some fried mushrooms in a tortilla is very expensive.

Great food, decent choice for the weird vegan in the group (me!) and a firm favourite with my whole family. Came in for a birthday meal for my husband. Lovely service from Folo even though it was really busy.

UPDATE*** would like to reiterate from the mangers very bad response to a last review from our Sunday breakfast. Please don’t be so rude and obnoxious with your comment saying if you put your egg in the sandwich it will be dripping. When the review clearly says the egg was on the side of the plate as we pointed out on the day. I know what egg looks like and what dripping butter looks like. So your comment really isn’t justified. And you don’t say to a paying customer where is she? Manners don’t cost anything. You say where is your friend. And don’t just assume we haven’t paid before leaving. You all really need to brush up on your customer service instead of getting your point across without listening to the customer. There was 3 of us and neither was happy with your food so this isn’t on one person’s review. You must be able to respond to negative reviews in a respectable way, without trying to make out the customer is a liar in what they are telling you. No need for another sarcastic reply. Thank you Came here Sunday for a breakfast and to be honest it wasn’t great. A bacon sandwich with egg on the side was absolutely dripping with butter and I mean the bread was soaked and all coming out of the bread. To which one guy said well it’s your egg when 3 times we said no it’s here on the side. 2 breakfast was cold. Very dry no taste. £10.50 for such a small breakfast is ridiculous. 2 of us waited outside whilst the other went to the toilet to which our waiter said where is she has she paid the bill. I mean who speaks this way. Who is she. Have some manners and don’t be so rude. Firstly is obvious the bill money is on the table. And secondly your don’t say to a lady. SHE. Very rude.

We were a large table and the service was brilliant, the staff really seemed to care and enjoy what they do. Very attentive, especially to the kids. The food was lovely and the restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be returning!

The food is pleasant. They also have a gluten-free offer and are particularly helpful about it

We were served by Fola, who was polite, friendly and very helpful. Our food was good, and enjoyable. We shall definitely be visiting again.

I visited here on a Saturday night with friends and enjoyed a lovely burger which was amazing!! The staff were very friendly including and attentive especially Charlotte was very friendly. Would definitely recommend

They have a new bar and the restaurant has been decorated. We had an excellent lunch - halloumi burger, cheeseburger, Bolognese. Good portions, very tasty and we cleared our plates. Good value too. We had a really good lunch.

We popped down to Rochester for a girls lunch, we all had different meals, each was really nice (easy to adapt for an allergy) options for vegan, gluten free etc including the drinks, the atmosphere was really relaxing, we didn't feel rushed or pressured, the staff were really friendly, would definitely go again

I ordered a delightful chicken and waffles with bacon which was reasonably priced, especially as this dish is not served in many local places. I was served by Ronnie who catered to our needs thoroughly. 5/5 would come again!

Had a lovely meal with my son and his girlfriend. There was a great atmosphere despite it being a bit quiet (it was a Monday). My steak was perfectly cooked and my son loves his chicken and waffles! We were served by Ronnie and Fola who were both extremely friendly, polite and very efficient. Will definitely go again..but maybe on a Tuesday as I noticed when we left that there’s a dining offer on steak on Tuesdays!

Massive burger without the bun keto..... Bloody brilliant

Good food with halal chicken options, nice atmosphere and great service... Only nit pick would be provide more in drinks and less ice.

Pleasant location food good but on payment of bill realised that the 'optional' 10% service charge was a done deal, without having been given 'the option.

Every time with the kids meal despite it saying it comes with chips they forget evertime so now my son only has a box of chicken bites. Second time this has happened. Food is lovely but its very annoying as nothing you can do to get the food replaced

We went on a warm day, beautiful old building but unfortunately no air conditioning and no windows that could be opened so it is very stuffy inside, which kind of made us rush our meal because we wanted to get out into the fresh air

Nice Service and Joyfull Ambience..

I took my bestfriend here for her birthday. Such amazing service! So so polite. The food was insane, not too pricey either. The gentleman serving us heard it was my bestfriends birthday and before bringing the bill sung happy birthday and brought over a complementary brownie. Was such a beautiful thing to do and it really made our night! Thank you for a wonderful meal!

Visited whilst staying in Rochester for the weekend, this place was a blessing 🙂‍↕️.. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast.. I have no words to describe how good it was 😋 If I was to go back to Rochester I'll definitely be coming back here 😏

Nice restaurant. A lot of different things on the menu. Staff was very friendly and hands-on. I had the mixed grill and it was honestly one of the best I've ever had. The meat was just right. Big portions too. Would recommend.

Delicious breakfast, friendly service, glad we visited

Overpriced, microwaved breakfast. You will be paying £15-£20 for a breakfast with microwave re-heated sausages, re-heated bacon and unseasoned mushrooms. As well as this the coffee is weak and poorly made. Also, I would suggest to Quills that you close when you are doing works on the building as there was a hoover and a drill running the whole time we were sat eating. Avoid! We won't be coming back.

Absolutely wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was truly top notch, some of the best we had in Rochester. Would definitely go back!

Food is ok, but could be better

We had pre booked a lunch as we had a tight window of time. All food arrived in good time and was spot on. I would certainly return to The Quills when in Rochester again.

Really disappointed to be saying this but I think the food is overrated. We were so excited to come here for fajitas but it was mainly a let down. Let start with the positives. The sticky chicken wings were to die for. Would eat several portions given the chance. The cocktails were also very nice. The staff were lovely and accommodating and a joy to chat to. The fajitas however were a real let down. The meat to veg ratio was just awful. No where near enough meat for the almost £20 you're paying. The sauces (guac and salsa, and also cheese sauce on the nachos) looked the same as what you get from wetherspoons, just very basic. And literally like a teaspoon of mozzarella cheese. We made the most of it but for the price we were expecting so much more.

Went here on a recommendation but sadly it was an underwhelming experience and probably wouldn't come back. The food was quite mediocre in both quality and quantity for the prices charged. If you are in a higher tax bracket or beyond I'm sure the price is not going to be an issue (for some). But for the average income and in real-terms quality for the price - this isn't great. I had the halloumi salad which was a fairly small bowl with some supermarket bread and lurpak tucked on the side (lurpak isn't even real butter, check the ingredients). As for the positives, the drinks were well presented and the atmosphere was okay.

Being going to Quills for many years . This visit was very disappointing as portion sizes were shocking . Had fajitas and not enough chicken to barely have 2 wraps . Had to leave 2 tortillas as nothing to put in them . Ordered large chips and it was a small side bowl with a handful of chips . Grated cheese was a sprinkle enough for one fajita. Bill was £75 for 2 , 2 small meals and 2 rounds of drinks .

Had such a lovely experience dining at The Quills on Sunday, was served by Ray she was lovely! Food was amazing, ordered the vegetable tagine, tasted extraordinary!! Definitely recommend going here 10/10

The smallest portion of everything! Ordered Fajitas, the tortillas were the size of a saucer, I had half a breast of chicken, the smallest portion of cheese not even enough for one wrap and a large portion of chips that you could fit in a tea cup! Oh and you have to pay extra for soured cream! The prices haven’t changed though, more than just accommodating rising costs! Will never eat here again

Very very busy, great food & service

Had the best birthday at this lovely restaurant , the food is amazing and our waitor Daniel was very friendly and efficient , the Manager was also very welcoming 😀 and they all came and sang happy birthday 🎂, this wasn't our first visit and definantly won't be our last !!!! Doughnut 🍩 burger is a must but tikka kerbab was just as good , Thankyou see you when we next visit from Norfolk 😀😀😀

Lovely ambiance in the restaurant, great staff and food. We ate sausages with pulled pork and mash. For dessert lemon tart.

Really lovely dining experience. Food was lovely, good portion sizes. Kids menu had a large variety. The service provided by Yulia was phenomenal, very polite and couldn’t do more for us.

The coffee is superb, the food is superb, the service is superb, in fact, it's simply the best restaurant in Rochester High Street. Highly recommended. Get there early to avoid disappointment. Booking is a must at the weekend

I would like to take the opportunity to provide feedback on our visit to your restaurant yesterday evening. We booked a table for 8 under the name of Martin. We had travelled from Dubai and were celebrating our son’s 9th birthday with our family. We were being waited on by what I can only describe as an exceptional waiter. The gentlemen was polite, professional, extremely helpful and overall contributed to a lovely evening and wonderful visit to your restaurant. I am not sure what position he holds within your company but he is an absolute credit to your business and ambassador of how to provide customer service. The waiters name was Fola. A true gentleman Food was also delightful All round fantastic evening.

We ordered the kids meals but the chicken bites didn't look normal enough for my kids to eat 😂 Also described as coming with chips but they received no chips. Tried to request refund but only the option to say the whole kids meal didn't arrive and that's not true. Other than that, delish food delivered on time with excellent service as always 😊

Visited this restaurant with a friend and were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the service could not have been better. We were served by a young gentleman called Dan. He was so attentive and had great banter. Suggesting between dishes when we could not decide. The lad needs a pay rise! We will definitely return.

Very loud party behind us. Couldn't hear ourselves speaking. Sat by the door, very cold evening and a draft every time customers come in and out. Food was okay. Plenty of it, just tasted slightly "normal" nothing special.

We had breakfast with friends today and cannot fault the service we received from Dan at Quills. He was really friendly, with a good sense of humour. He took our order promptly. The food arrived swiftly as we had said we couldn’t stay too long today. Dan checked everything was ok with our food. Great service even when the restaurant was pretty busy.

I’ve been to the restaurant twice now and served by Julia both times and she’s so lovely as well as the other staff there. I always make sure to leave a tip there because I throughly enjoy my time. Also the music in the restaurant is always good not sure who’s picking it out. Thanks again!

Service was great, but burgers below average - sloppy, patties overcooked, no flavours. Fries were ok. Dessert also was only ok to wash down with coffee ( lemon tart). Coffee was nice 🙂 not worth the money, wontbe coming back.

Beautiful friendly cosy lovely staff Lamb stew had white pickled onions in(very vinegary)very odd in my opinion. mash tasted of instant mash that you add water to,small portion sizes looked flattened to fill the bowl, the lamb stew itself seemed it could of been from a tin with added veg so that was disappointing . All other meals from burgers to pasta was good overall. Maybe I'd just chosen the wrong dish! Everything else Charming and service was brilliant 👏

The atmosphere and the people are just amazing the staff could not be nicer. The food is on point. The hygiene is really good. Overall this restaurant is just extraordinary and you should go
