***UPDATED REVIEW*** The last few times we have eaten here, the food has been really disappointing. It saddens me to write this because this was my favourite country pub and recommended to family and friends who went off the back of my recommendation and said the food was terrible. Service really slips when they have events on. Bar staff don’t seem as friendly. :( —————————— The Red Barn is our favourite country pub! Often go for drinks by the open fireplace or slouch on the comfortable sofas. Most pubs these days aren’t cosy and filled with just restaurant seating. The Red Barn has space for everything; Restaurant, bar, cosy seating indoors, undercover outdoor area with heaters, big un-covered grass area with burger van - it’s quite impressive! The staff have always been very friendly and polite. I tried food for the first time, it was so flavoursome and good quality, however, the menu didn’t show any gluten free options so the waitress bought over a big folder for us to work out ourselves - found it quite strange as vegan/vegetarian options were labelled. Other than that, can’t fault it. Looking forward to visiting during the summer months out in the garden!

Great atmosphere , had a very cosy seat by the fire place. We all went for the roast. However a lot of the beef served was not fit for consumption. Very tough and not able to cut let alone chew. No one around to ask to swap and no one checked on us to see if the food was okay. Manager removed it from the bill when we did get to let the staff know however dinner was finished at this point. They might have been unlucky with the cut of beef, but someone could have checked in after serving or at least have someone around, this let down the otherwise really good service throughout. Finally the food was good but not amazing, and overpriced with all things considered. I wouldn’t come here for a roast again, much better out there, but great place for a drink. I would come back to try a different menu to give it another chance and hopefully have a better experience.

Great location, we’ve been many times and it’s never disappointed before. We didn’t get to be seated in the barn which was a shame, and the area we had was a bit lifeless. All 3 of us had the beef roast plus some extra cauliflower cheese - the Yorkshires were overdone, the potatoes a bit anaemic, and there was only minimal veg on the plate. The beef was inedible, really poor quality. The dessert (apple crumble) was excellent. Overall, a disappointing meal, though we will no doubt try again, probably a busy day and bad timing.

We had a family reunion lunch at this pub on Monday 30th. The food was expensive and mediocre. The staff were trying their best but not enough of them and it was too hot to be comfortable. A real pity as it's a beautiful pub.

Christmas Day ruined. From the moment we walked in the door today I knew we had made the wrong decision. The table was booked for 3:30 pm, from the moment we turned up staff seem flustered and no one had time to talk to us. 30 minute wait to be seated. The table wasn’t set, no wine glasses. We ordered 3 bottles of wine (one of which was corked) we were given the glasses and no one offered to help pass them out or even pour any of the drinks. The canopies came out, which were stale and hard. Onto the starters, The scallops were in edible and tasteless, and still raw in the centre. I brought up with a manager that they seemed microwaved which he did deny, but the starters had to be sent back. The sorbet turned up late, so to say they were a “Pallet cleanser” 45 minutes after the inedible starter was laughable. By this point, we had still seen no staff other than the flustered, upset looking members putting dishes in front of us. No more drinks orders were taken. It was when the mains came out that the meal became an utter joke. The table behind us clapped when their meals eventually arrived, which was received by a huge impatient laugh by the entire room. The mains are utterly and inedible, there was a mixture of old cold food, some plates were missing elements. There was no pigs in blankets as described on the menu and the roast potatoes were overcooked rocked. The Yorkshire puds were flat, which was the least of our concerns. The entire day was an absolute shambles and utterly disappointing. We all paid over £120 EACH for this, mind you we wait all year for Christmas and trust that the restaurant you have chosen provides a lovely day, this was an utter joke.

My second visit to the Red Barn in December including Boxing Day, the service and atmosphere lovely but the food rather disappointing. In particular little choice for a vegetarian who does not like plant based food. My fault should have studied the menu in more detail!

I've eaten many good meals at the Red Barn. This was not one of them. In fact it was one of the worst meals I have eaten anywhere! 2 half chickens were ordered and arrived undercooked, the flesh pink and barely warm (certainly not 72°) and were sent back. A portion of mac'n cheese arrived cold and was returned, ditto a side of greens. No catering establishment gets it right all the time, but undercooked chicken is a salmonella hazard and suggests a lack of care and supervision in the kitchen. The bill arrived still showing one half chicken and at my insistence this was removed together with the discretionary service charge. I should add that 2 of the party are professional chefs and at least one other table expressed dissatisfaction to their 'server'. To make matters worse, it was my 80th birthday celebration. First time had Christmas Lunch at a restaurant and was very happy with everything. The staff were very busy but always available and certainly attentive. The Red Barn is an attractive venue with its log fire in the centre of the main barn area but in spite of the number of people there, the noise levels were more than acceptable to us all. Unlikely to be the last time that we enjoy Christmas day with you!

Sadly our second visit was disappointing. The food was not as good as the first time. My husbands steak was not medium rare as requested the meat dripped with blood, the chips were not crispy and many gray bits. My chicken pie was overcooked and somehow burnt inside the crust!. The last visit the food was exquisite 👌. We even sent our compliments to the chef. Sadly this time the standard was not as good. As for the atmosphere , we were there on a Saturday and a large family with very unruly children and adults made our experience stressful. The foul language was managed very well by the staff who were lovely. We could not fault them at all. If we go again we will not go of a weekend. We cut our evening short. The staff did offer compensation for the food but we declined and left early.

The barn restaurant looked so beautiful, decorated for Xmas with a lovely fire going too. Sadly the food was not up to the same standard. One of us ordered steak which was served up lukewarm on a cold plate and the chosen sauce had obviously been refrigerated so did not melt onto the steak thus making it even colder. The food presentation as poor, no garnish and all very plain. The service was friendly enough but lacking in training, ie no napkins offered & we had to ask for condiments & steak knife. No ice in drinks. Desert was awful, apple crumble all watery and not hot, ice cream on top which didn’t melt as it wasn’t warm enough. Tasteless. We asked for custard and were told everyone asks for it but they don’t have it. If everyone asks for it surely you should get some in to be able to offer what customers want?? Shame as the place looked so lovely but we won’t be returning.

Unfortunately the food was average. One dish came out with half the ingredients missing. One dish the lettuce was limp and not crispy which it should be in a Caesar salad. They had run out of garlic butter at this was at a lunchtime sitting so clearly hadn’t prepped enough. Good took a long time to come out of the kitchen too. They only cleared half our plates from the table and then got distracted. We got fed up looking at our plates so we moved them to a spare table. We asked for the dessert menu twice it still did not come. So we asked for the bill. This came but then they did not come back to let us pay so I had to go up to the bar to pay. When you are spending between £200-£300 on a meal for a family you do not expect the above. Extremely disappointed. They definitely need to up their game in the kitchen and at front of house. Such a shame as has huge potential. Unfortunately it’s a very large venue and they can’t keep up.

Baked Camembert starter was delicious. The fish I had was really nice too with good flavours however it was just slightly overcooked for me (it wasn’t super overcooked or anything but it has been cooked a tiny bit longer than that just cooked point).the sauce the fish was in was also a little bit too salty for me. Super slow service, lovely environment, food ok. We got married here last year (it was amazing, highly recommend) and they offered us a complementary anniversary meal at the time. We were so looking forward to coming back, and was so lovely to be in the barn again, enjoying it decked out for Christmas. Starter was delicious but took 50 mins to come. Roasts should have been out soon after, had to wait another 30 mins. They were ok-let down by roast potatoes and lack of gravy. Then made the mistake of ordering an apple crumble which took another 20 mins, was both undercooked, cold and tasted burnt. Nearly 3 hours later for 2 of us, I couldn’t be bothered to argue about the bill - they took our drinks off and the (awful) pudding but refused to honour the complimentary meal, despite me putting on reservation notes. Would not have minded too much if it had been a better experience but might make a different anniversary tradition!

I've never been to a more frustrating place. Frustrating because the pub has got so much potential, but in reality it's below average by quite some margin. The building, gardens, interior design and ambience are top notch – possibly the prettiest pub I've ever been to – so I was expecting good things from the food and service when I walked in. It's just a massive shame this turned out to not be the case. I asked for a Guinness, but they'd run out. I then tried to order mushrooms for a starter, but they'd run out. And I asked for the venison pie, but they'd run out. The starters and mains for the whole table were a let down – not poorly cooked, just bland with very little flavour. The staff were friendly, but service was slow, disorganised and patchy. I won't be going back to The Red Barn unfortunately, because of the food, which is a real shame as I wanted to fall in love with it.

The service was terrible, they served us toast and butter instead of sour dough bread and garlic butter, they just served it up thinking we wouldn’t notice . The waitress took my wine glass away still with wine in it , she returned with it filled up , when I asked where the rest of my wine was she just didn’t understand what I was saying . The main course was over cooked . When we asked for floater coffees , they returned about 15 minutes later saying they couldn’t make them as they had no cream . The whole experience wasn’t good and the staff didn’t seem to care . It wasn’t as if they even busy as they weren’t . I would say to anyone steer clear of the red barn . I have been visiting The Red Barn for years and the building and outside space never fail to impress. Sadly, that's as good as it gets for me. Being a Coeliac (gluten free), my eating out is guided by what is available on the menu. Not having been since the end of December 2023, I was very disappointed to see fewer gluten free options available. Four of us had lunch. I had the gammon, egg and chips. The chunky chips were greasy, the gammon was dreadful. A large knobbly lump of pure fat with a slice of over salty gammon. Another of our party had haddock and chips. The haddock was over cooked with the batter a very dark brown, almost burnt, again greasy chips and the peas were not mushy, just very yellow. I complained about my gammon and was told I could have a free dessert. With the exeption of ice cream or cheese with a slice of gluten free bread, there were no gluten free options. I'm not sure if there is new management or it's been taken over, but the quality of food was very poor. Previously there have been a lot of choices for gluten free. They ran out of soda, lemonade and sugar. Some of the staff were great, the others miserable and barely polite. Prices have always been on the high side but if quality and service are good I can live with that. Unless some serious changes take place, I can't see a good reason to return. Very disappointed.

We visited for a Sunday roast. We had booked but turned up two hours early and the staff very kindly accommodated us. We both had the trio roast and the food was all beautiful, all three of the meats were cooked to perfection and very tasty. We also had the mushroom brioche for a starter and the chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All very tasty although it would be nice if it was a genuine sticky toffee pudding, this was more of a toffee cake with butterscotch sauce. The service did let the experience down slightly. Staff were slow to take our orders, offer us dessert menus, check if we needed more drinks etc. Though, once we did order the food came quickly. The whole experience took 3hrs. Despite the speed, the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was overall good. Luckily we weren’t in a mega rush.

This is a very mixed review. The location and setting are absolutely beautiful and I would love to come back and use the outdoor area. On this occassion however we were a little disappointed. We had pre-booked but the main dining room was full when we arrived so we were taken to sit in the Orangery which was nice but didn't have the same atmosphere and felt a bit tucked away which ended up being a real disadvantage. We knew what we wanted so ordered out meal at the same time as our drinks. 35 minutes later we still didn't have our drinks and had to chase them. After 45 minutes we received our meals and the food was absolutely wonderful, no complaints about that other than how long we had waited. Unfortunately we then had to go and find staff to ask for our plates to be removed and get the desert menu after another long wait. We decided just to get the bill and leave at that point. Looking around, I'd say either they had taken more bookings than they could manage or had left themselves short staffed.

Restaurant Review: I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Despite having a reservation, we still waited about 30 minutes for a table. Once seated, service continued to be sluggish; it took a long time just to get our drinks, and we waited over an hour for our food. When it was finally time to order, we discovered they were out of half the menu items — something they didn’t mention until we were ready to order, which made things even more frustrating. When the food finally arrived, it was swimming in a thin, watery gravy. I’m a big fan of gravy, but not when it’s this diluted; it would have been much better served on the side. Overall, the experience left a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t rush back here, unfortunately.

The service was good and the menu was quite extensive. I chose the roast which turned out to be disappointing…it looked amazing with a giant Yorkshire pudding but I got three ultra thin slithers of each type of meat (all of which was actually quite tasteless) served with literally a spoonful of gravy so essentially a dry roast. My brother enjoyed his choice so next time I won’t be choosing the roast.

The food overall was good, however the service was atrocious. We were left without service for most of our visit, leaving us to have to chase staff so that we could order drinks etc. Worse though, was the inability to clear the table, when deserts arrived, our main plates etc still hadn’t been cleared. We then received a bill that included a £30 service charge…when we requested this was removed, we were met with a huff and a 10 minute delay for a replacement bill.

Such a lovely venue, decor is authentic and it's a huge place with many different spaces including a secret garden. Would be fab for hosting an event. The menu had not been updated on the website so three of our party were disappointed that there was no banoffee pie. But not the end of the world. I ordered the bavette steak, medium rare. It came rare but I didn't want to interrupt the meal by sending it back. It was disappointing as not to my preference and the brandy peppercorn sauce seemed to be split, it wasn't thick instead watery. Flavour was fine. Service was also fine, little things like having to ask for steak knives detracted from the basic service that you would expect in an establishment like this. Mu sister had the hake which was quite a small portion. My dad had the fish pie which he enjoyed. Did like that they're dog friendly and recieved a warm welcome when we arrived. Staff were nice.

Ok - big disagreement with establishments raking up their prices, and adding discretionary service charges to all bills - this was, and should remain, added only for big parties. Do you understand discretionary puts customers and your staff in a compromising position. Food - beef too rare or too well done - nothing inbetween. Roast spuds needed cooking more. (Better at a Toby Carvery). Pork crackling was poor. If you’re charging £29.90 for a roast make sure people leave stuffed full. Which wasn’t the case. Quick tip. Bring the gravy and sauces first. So we aren’t sat waiting with food infront.

Poor service and overpriced food for the quality. The fish was dry, tasteless and was mostly hard batter with not much fish at all. Tiny portion of mushy peas no bigger than a tablespoon and the curry sauce was bland. The tartare sauce was nice and so were the chips but there weren’t many. It certainly wasn’t worth the £18 it cost. The service was slow. The restaurant was fairly empty as we arrived early evening however, we had to get up to ask someone to come and take our order. After dinner we were given dessert menus but nobody came back to take our order so we just got up and asked for the bill. We were served by all different staff but did let them know at the end about the service so it can hopefully be improved. The pub itself is very lovely and we received good service at the bar on arrival where a lady helped us choose our bottle of rose. I won’t be returning for food in the future.

Spent a lovely afternoon in the Red Barn for my daughter’s 30th. Private dinner setting area off main restaurant but open one side so you don’t feel excluded or isolated. Roast dinner was up there with the best and all 14 of us were well looked after by the staff. Cheers.

Plenty of places to sit, inside and out. Dog friendly. Music outside was a little loud, but it was turned down on request. Beautiful historic interior. Overall,a great find.

We thought the food was underwhelming we all took the quiche which didn’t have much flavour and was a very small slice. It was off the lunch menu. The tomatoes which accompanied it were no better than ok.The drinks service was amazingly quick. The lady who was taking the orders seemed to get rushed off her feet at one point but coped with it admirably.

Lovely pub, only had a drink as too early for lunch but would definitely come back. Its very big so I imagine the atmosphere would be great when full. Huge barn, bookcases and lots of seating options. Would be good for a celebration or function. Nice outdoor searing as well.

We had our wedding reception and evening celebrations at the Red Barn a few weeks back and it was dreamy!! We had several meetings with Lottie beforehand to plan the day and make sure that everything went to plan. Lottie was so accommodating during those meetings and our day could not have been any better! The food was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing and most of all Lottie was amazing! You're a gorgeous human inside and out and we can't thank you enough for everything you've done for us!

Sunday lunch was great with attentive staff. Let down by a neighbouring table (inside) where someone was vaping which when first reported to the staff nothing was done so I had to get a manager involved. The fact that a customer doesn’t have the willpower or manners to think that it’s acceptable is bad enough, but I would have liked the staff to react a lot more quickly.

Super nice place with very tasty food. The employees were very friendly and everything went quickly and smoothly. There was even a small bar with treats and water for the dogs and the vegan options were really great. We would definitely eat there again.

It's a nice place, food is a little expensive really and service while good was a little distracted almost it felt like. Had an unfortunate situation with a bone in the food, but other than that, nice. I may come back again but have been a little put off for now.

My twin sister and I decided to have our 50th birthday party in the secret garden at the red barn. What an amazing venue. Everyone loved it, the staff were fantastic, Lottie was brilliant along with all the staff in the evening. They were so attentive, and nothing was too much. The food was unbelievable, and I had one person who was gluten intolerant. They were so careful and did everything they could to accommodate this. From start to finish, it was amazing, and everyone complimented the venue, food, and staff. What a special place this is, and I wouldn't hesitate to use the red barn again. Thank you for making our party special x

Coming off the back of a 3 day festival, all I wanted was a good quality steak, and that’s exactly what I got. Cooked exactly how we requested and served w the perfect string fries, I couldn’t be happier. Dad got the Kiev and it was just as delicious. Apologies for the photo, I was too excited and forgot to take it before I poured the sauce everywhere.. also no Kiev pics as dad had started already. I will say that service could be slightly friendlier, however as someone who works hospitality too, I understand it can be hard to be chipper all the time (although it is our industry). Would highly recommend if you like fresh, quality ingredients. Thank you to the chef😊

Thanks to everyone at the Red Barn for an absolutely fantastic fathers day meal. This is a must visit pub. The menu is fabulous and made for difficult choices, will need to visit again soon to try all the other options. Incredible value, quality ingredients and warm service to boot. One of the best sunday roasts I have had and the steak tartare is a must try. Can't wait to visit again soon.

Lovely pub , nice drinks , pleasant waiting staff, service was struggling being a busy Sunday Afternoon, (Understandable! ) Our group of 22 , Main issue our meals had to be Pre Ordered from your set menu 4 weeks before. Lots served really late , lots food was tepid or over salted , I can only speak about 6 persons who felt the same . Roast dinner and fish chips
