The Secret Garden Café in Weymouth and Portland

Stopped in for breakfast.... absolutely spot on veggie brekkie. Staff lovely and quick service. Drinks excellent. Kids had waffles and they were also amazing.

Coffee very nice, gluten free apple cake very dry with not much apple. Carrot cake surprisingly dry. Service was slow long wait for the cake, Staff very polite.

Love this place. Great that I can eat Vegetarian and Gluten Free without a worry. Tasty food, still. A must visit

Shocking, first time trying and won’t be back, first sandwich was stale, staff said the bread was fresh in that day… replacement sent and the bread was mouldy!! And again the staff said the bread was fresh so it’s a supplier issue. Shocking. Service poor too.

Nice outdoor seating which is why we chose this cafe. Unfortunately it took 15-20 minutes before our coffees arrived, so didn't bother to order food. Very disappointing flat white which has been spilt into the saucer (taking the froth with it?) and the Americano was very bitter.

Lovely coffee, and lovely service. Huge tea cake and plenty of butter. Sadly the milk shake was nothing more than milk and syrup 😭

Great little cafe. Stopped here for tea and a light snack on our way to Cornwall. Was pleasantly surprised at the number of gluten free options. Millionaire shortbread was delicious!!

Sorry to say but we didn't enjoy the breakfast we had here. We both had scrambled eggs on toast and for both of us the eggs had been over cooked. I also had a veggie sausage with my breakfast and it was basically black. The staff serving us were friendly and attentive and the place was in a good location with seating options both inside and out Maybe their waffles and/or lunch/dinner are better, but I wouldn't recommend for breakfast, it filled a hole but that was about it.

Hoestly GOATED experience. Best cafe in dorch fr fr. service was lovely and the person I was with had the special which I believe if I recall was the mushroom and butter bean burger and they LOVED IT. 11/10!!!

Highly recommend this place if you're veggie or vegan, I had the vegan Biscoff waffles and they were delicious. Plenty of choice on the menu, lots of milks available, staff super friendly and love that it's just tucked away in a little courtyard

The menu was limited to Panini’s and Toasties so we had both versions of the Avocado and Mushrooms. They tasted okay, nothing special. The Dorset Apple Cake and the Victoria Sponge were delicious however.

Disappointing experience, we had two Build your own waffles with one of the orders being wrong. The waffles themselves were barely warm and we waited longer than expected for them, especially with them not coming out hot. The cutlery was also dirty, and when we went to get replacement cutlery they were also dirty with dried food stuck inside the prongs of the fork. We didn't complain as we had an appointment to get to and therefore didn't want to wait for corrections, the staff seemed nice but ultimately there was too many problems to want to go back again.

Lovely place to sit down, nice courtyard area in the sunshine or inside for the other 360 days of the year. Good pot of tea and the chocolate brownies are good (missing some nuts). Will review again once I've tried something a bit more major from the menu, which looks really good (got to love a good waffle).

This review is for the cafe when it was in Weymouth, not Dorchester! Popped on today for lunch, we had the burger with homemade chips and salad. The food was excellent and the service was great. Totally relaxed atmosphere with no pressure to get us out after we had finished. Highly recommended

This was a lovely place which we frequently visited when it was in weymouth, the food was always good, and the service was great and friendly. We were in Dorchester and decided to stop for lunch based on the previous experiences. The visit in Dorchester was Very disappointing, the restaurant was not busy, we waited for an hour for a burger and chips and a microwaved lasagne, if customers have to wait that long there should be more comfortable chairs, really disappointed with the burger and nasty chips that came with it, in Weymouth there were nice handmade chips and the burger had more flavour.

Great vegetarian restaurant at the heart of Dorchester. Within this the vegan options were fantastic. The lasagne I would recommend much. Arriving early for lunch could be useful or booking a table in advance. Staff was friendly, and space was comfortable.

We went in on Saturday. Asked if we could bring the dogs in. Lady said yes. Showed us to a table, said she would bring menus over. 15minutes later we went and got the menus ourselves. Another 10 minutes & no one came to take our order, despite all 4 waiting staff walking past our table numerous times on the way to the kitchen. Only 6 other people inside besides us, so not busy. We finally left when the 4 waiting staff were all eating cake at the till & enjoying a laugh. They didn’t even take a drink order from us! Rubbish service. However, we did find a really nice place to eat, with friendly helpful staff at "The Horse With The Red Umbrella".

Great food amd service. Seems very popular which is great but not much seating inside. I went on a sunny warm day do happily sat outside.

Sadly disappointed, offer sounds good but menu is random, many dishes unavailable probably because they were the more understandable options. Nachos way over priced at £13.50 for a bowl, cheese wasn’t even melted over. Service took 40mins to put even that poor effort on the table.

Cute little cafe in a nice setting with lovely staff. Good range of vegan options on the menu, which was really nice to see. We had the scrambled tofu and the mexican beans with avocado. 3 star rating because the quality could be vastly improved if the coffee was better (very bitter, poor quality beans) and if the bread was better (mass produced, incredibly thin sliced white that can't stand up to breakfast toppings). Liked the addition of pine nuts in the scrambled tofu and the range of optional extras in the breakfast menu to customise your dish.

Underwhelming. Coffee and cake. Neither were particularly good. Coffee tasted bitter. Cake was dry and tasteless.

Went in found table, waitress brought me menu, she was very polite ask me what I would like I Placed a order waited about 10 minutes full vegan breakfast 😋 And cappuccino very nice, well satisfied I will be going back again brilliant 👏.

Really disappointed. Such a shame. Had the leek and mushroom pie but filling was poor and pastry not great. Had to ask for veg. No new potatoes so had the chips which were greasy and cool. Think we hit a bad day. Lots of staff but we still felt neglected. Waffles a bit heavy and greasy. Could be a great little place and is very stylish but needs to work on the standard of food.

Absolutely fantastic - the food was delicious, I had a vegan quiche, garlicky new potatoes with salad - highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again soon

Great food, quick service, nice amount of choice, super delicious chips. Minor communication error over the order but they happily sorted it out for us.

Saved our visit to the Secret Garden for the last full day of our holiday, combining it with a museum trip. I'd been really excited about getting to visit and I wasn't disappointed. The food was gorgeous - I had the Moving Mountains burger. The cakes were delicious. And the coffee and tea were lovely. Such a nice treat to have a fully vegetarian (with LOTS of vegan options) and not have to worry about the food. Highly recommend if you're in Dorchester. Will definitely visit next time we're on holiday in Dorset.

An amazing place to go , we had the bbq jackfruit and cheese sandwich and the garden poutine. It was delicious and staff were very attentive and friendly. So glad to see the place so busy and I hope it does well. Will definitely be returning to try other menu items. :)

Had the privilege of being the second customers in the new Dorchester cafe and we loved it, great food, beautiful atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough. Highly reccomend the lose leaf teas

As a returning customer I am never disappointed by the food and atmosphere at the cafe. Staff were efficient and friendly. Food was delicious and lots of options for brunch!

The best vegan cafe I’ve been too

First visit here having seen good things on the dog friendly social Weymouth page. The review weren’t wrong. We, and our two dogs, were made to feel very welcome. We both had waffles, mine with apple and my husband with biscoff biscuits. They were so yummy, hard to believe it was far feee ice cream. The tea was really lovely too. Would definitely recommend if you are in Weymouth and it’s a lovely setting in hope square away from the busy bits of Weymouth.

It was raining so we popped in for coffee. It has a garden, which looks nice, but we went in due to rain. Was quite crowded. Nice coffee & very friendly service. Clean & cosy. Would be nice in winter as has a wood stove.

I didn't realise that this place was vegetarian but the breakfast was great, even though I was expecting a traditional fry-up. Nice decor, staff and ambiance.

Service was quick and the staff were friendly. Amazing menu offering for vegans and vegetarians. They also sell homemade cakes which you can take away. You can sit inside or outside and can sit with dogs outside.

Only had a coffee but very pleasant place for catchup with friends.

Absolutely gorgeous cafe, lovely seating inside and out. I am coeliac and was able to enjoy a lovely afternoon lunch, as they catered so brilliantly for this including other allergens, very clued up and lots of choices. I could barely move after I had the waffles for dessert. The staff were so lovely and friendly and the service was great.

This is easily becoming my favourite cafe in Weymouth. The location is great, just moments from the harbour side in the bustling brewers quay area. They have a sizeable outside seating area for those dry days and a cosy dining area inside. The staff are wonderfully accommodating and lovely with our children, they are always offered colouring books and numerous high chairs are available. Now the food...it is lovely. It is all vegetarian or vegan, but even as a meat lover I always find something to eat. A personal favourite is the poutine, fries with melted cheese covered in the most delicious mushroom gravy - it is gorgeous! The extensive waffle menu is a firm hit with all ages, with choices to suit all. From waffles doused in chocolate to lovely fruit toppings. If you are in the area, I would wholeheartedly suggest you pop by for lunch.

Came here with the in laws a few months ago. We got lunch outside during a sea shanty performance. Food was great and the staff were very friendly!

Such a great find! Super coffee, delicious waffles and eggs. We are repeatedly coming here during our stay. Such a super start to the day. In a lovely setting on Hope square away from the busy main streets. We loved it.

Sunday morning pit stop. Pretty little cafe inside and out. Good mix of families, couples etc. relaxed vibe. Coffee fine and arrived quickly although could have handled a slightly stronger brew. Friendly staff.

A gem of a place in a good location - quirky with super nice staff. We had four waffles, one GF and vegan. Light batter, tasty and perfectly cooked. Amazing topping options, build your own or a variety of yummy suggestions. Great coffee, a selection of non-dairy milks, I went for almond for my latte. Extremely satisfied, thank you!!!!

Fantastic haven at the back of the harbour. The food was amazing. The cakes to die for and the drinks beautiful. The service was excellent as well. It is very small and cosy. Lovely place on a rainy day but would be just as good on a sunny day. Next time we will try different dishes.

Always nervous going out as a family trying to cater for everybody, as my youngest son is coeliac, so I'm always worried about menu choice & will there be anything he'd like & is the restaurant actually bothered about his needs. Needn't have worried here, food choice was excellent, the staff clearly cared about their customers, and the tension was removed from my shoulders as my 10yr old was happy too. Happily go again, it's not the biggest place, but this adds to a family feel. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

What a fantastic find, the food is delicious. I had a mouthwatering mushroom and beetroot burger with cheddar cheese, fries and salad, so so good. My friend, who is gluten free, ate all of her delicious chickpea and sweetcorn burger, salad and fries. To top it off we each had a waffle with various toppings. Again my friend hadn't eaten a gluten free waffle in years! This place is so welcoming and is a total gem. Thank you to the lovely staff who are so amenable.

Lovely little tea room hidden behind Weymouth Marina, great for breakfast on a weekend. Menu options simple but varied enough to be worth it. Staff were friendly.

I stumbled across this little gem for breakfast. We were both tempted by the waffles and I was not disappointed. Strawberry, cream, ice cream and apple! absolutely delicious! Lovely decor and service with a smile from Emma and her mum. Thankyou, we will be back.

Amazing gluten free choice for a celiac sufferer. The food was prompt and all the staff were very aware of cross contamination and there was none! Would definitely pop in again for lunch thank you.

Excellent veggie/vegan eatery tucked away from the bustle of the town centre on the fort side of the marina. As we're both vegan we made a deliberate bee-line for this place after finding it on a Google Map search. The food was delicious, decently priced too. Mushroom and leek pie with real chips. Would highly recommend a visit especially if you're veggie/vegan. Probably the best place in Weymouth for vegan options!

We arrived as a group of 14 people, with allergies to milk, gluten and nuts. All the staff were very accommodating to us all, we had a lovely lunch, the best food we ate whilst we were at Weymouth and reasonably priced too.

We popped in here on the off chance for a light lunch with our daughter and three month old granddaughter. We were immediately made to feel welcomed and the ambience was very chilled and easy going. Even when the baby had a shrieking fit the staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered some lunch of jacket potato, cheesy chips and ‘poutine’. All of which were delicious and served quickly, as were our drinks. Their coffee was fantastic, with double the quality and quantity of the nearby chain coffee shops for a lower price! The staff were chatty and in great spirits, as were many of the clientele. We decided to share a couple of their famous waffles with assorted toppings. They were excellent, although we may not eat for a few days now. The server wouldn’t let us escape without getting a cuddle with our little Florence. Now Flo can’t wait to go back and visit Auntie P. So highly recommended, this place is a little gem of a find.

Spotted this small cafe on our walk around Weymouth and stopped off for lunch sitting outside in the lovely sheltered garden. We had paninis which were very tasty with a nice side salad. They carry a great selection of teas and the menu is basic...
