The Ship Inn in East Lothian

We went for a meal on the recommendation of another member of the family. The original front of the establishment is more traditional but the back area where the dining rooms are is spacious clean and very well kept. The food was delicious and very well served. The waiting staff were very good and polite.

Food was braw. The chicken burger was very nice. Service was great too.

We we at the Ship Inn today, booked for 5:15, see to immediately and served by a charming young man who was very professional and pleasant to deal with. He served us promptly and was very knowledgeable on all aspects of food and drink. We will definitely be back. I only wish I had his name to thank him directly.

I was able to test the pub side and the restaurant side. Excellent on both sides. The choice is simple, the food is fresh, quality and at a very reasonable price. It was fish and chips on the pub side and Scotch egg for me on the restaurant side. I parked easily on the port side the first time and in the street next to it the second and everything for free 😉 If you go to musselburg, don't hesitate, go for it😎

Parking was a bit tricky, but we just used the Aldi car park across the road. That being said, inside is beautiful, very nicely decorated and the food and service was 10/10. They have a full gluten-free menu, which was amazing for me. I had the calamari to start. It was beautiful. And for main the mussels. The portion was massive, and you got chips. I would highly recommend this place, well worth a visit!

Went for food, went to the bar first, very busy Saturday night, the local football team were celebrating a win, good atmosphere. The restaurant was nice, good service & good food.

Absolutely fantastic as always, both servers were brilliant. Food was outstanding as always. Even although the place was not busy the atmosphere was brilliant. Really enjoyed the flat iron steak it was so tender. Thank you everyone involved

This is a real lovely place, food portions are big, you won't go away still hungry. Also nice atmosphere. Only have one thing to say on our service, it was terrible! It was like we weren't there, we had to ask for everything. They forgot drinks, cutlery, etc, had to ask for our wine 3 times, also there was loads of staff but they didn't work well together! a lot of them were going about with there heads in the sky and not asking you if everything was ok, or if we needed anything. This pub/restaurant could have 5 stars all day long if the waiting staff were to buck there ideas up and wake up.

They do a good quality Sunday roast for a very reasonable price compared to other places I’ve tried

Beautiful interior, feels just like a ship. Good bar food and fancier in the courtyard if you fancy, lovely place for lunch and dinner. Highly recommended

Messed up our booking resulting in 4 members of the family having to leave as we were told they were full and couldn’t accommodate us. This was despite there being empty tables the whole time we were there which was a long time as took an hour and a half to serve us. Staff unhelpful and rude. Food fine

The most revolting seafood dish I have ever had - Monkfish cheek scampi - fibrous, inedible, vile. Kitchen didn’t even have courtesy to come to the table after the complaint.

A structure that made me imagine a fisherman's cottage on the Scottish seas. Bus stop two meters from the entrance, authentic and beautiful place.

As well as a traditional bar with outside seating to the front and side, there is also a bistro. Service was friendly and efficient on a busy Sunday when we visited. I hope to return to sample the menu.

An excellent meal of very high quality. The table staff work hard and provide a first class service. The menu is varied to meet all tastes and diets. Always a pleasure to eat here, we will certainly come again.

Stunning food, wonderful service and such an amazing vibe!

Our first visit to the Ship in for a birthday meal. The restaurant has been renovated and looks/feels nice. Unfortunately the outside dining area has yet to be completed (has a retractable roof. Would have been good). The staff were all very attentive and keen to offer service. Very friendly. We all ordered different items from the menu, steak pie, steak, macaroni cheese. Everyone loved their food, large portions and well cooked. We stayed for a few drinks, so had a good few hours at the ship inn. Would recommend it, though the only real negative would be the price, obviously they have a renovation to pay for! Though with today's inflation it could just be like everything nowadays and just naturally expensive! 🖖 3/5 (would have been higher if we had the chance to use the outdoor area, as it was one of the only sunny days this spring / summer)

The service was top notch. The starter was really nice I had prawns were fab. We had three roast beef dinners that were absolutely lovely .

Nice point within walking distance of the harbour, close to Edinburgh. Cozy pub downstairs that you don't notice anything upstairs. 4 rooms with a shared hall. If someone is calling here in the evening it is a bit noisy. Plumbing is also not great (pipes rustle and shower drain runs poorly), beautiful spacious bathroom. Coffee and tea in the room and the Lidl with fresh rolls (from 8 am) across the street.

Very nice 4 bedroom inn with a public hall.. Almost like at home. Totally personal if you need a family area with few rooms. It's heritage gives a very nostalgic environment and a newly renovated dining with fantastic food, at reasonable price.. Definitely a good place to stay in away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh City. But close enough to the city center

Booked a one night stay in their self catering rooms, would recommend them to anyone looking for a few nights stay. Rooms are well equipped and very clean, towels toiletries are all provided The rooms are on a par to the best of hotels. Staff are so very helpful and friendly and bar and bistro are welcoming and good. Would certainly book here again and have sung there praises to many others at the venue we attended. Wishing them a very lucrative future.. xx

Continues to be very good. Wine list has changed. Not as extensive as last year but still decent if still a bit overpriced for the area.

Popped in and had half fish and chips. Just enough washed down with a nice ale. The other side of the restaurant is a proper pub.

Stayed here for 3 nights. The manager and staff are really friendly and helpful. Good food and comfortable rooms.

First time at the ship inn, very nice restaurant pub in Musselburgh, nice food had the salt and chilli calimari followed by the goan curry calimari was good, curry was meant to have cod and prawns in it very nice 5 prawns and barely a bit of cod there did taste good though, my wife plumbed for the haggis scotch egg with pepper sauce, marcaroni with ciabatta again very nice, puddings were delicious also lemon cheesecake and very sticky toffee pudding, good selection of non alcoholic drinks on the menu also.£70 for 3 courses each and a couple of drinks each, reasonable prices definitely be back.

Sunday lunch. Looked amazing on the plate but unfortunately it was let down by some poor quality beef. All three of our plates got sent back. The manager dealt with it extremely professionally and replaced the beef with some excellent steak cuts from the advertised steak sandwich. The rest of the Sunday lunch was very tasty. Might try again soon

Had to fins parking on side streets as no designated car park. The food was superb and the service was a a great standard. Lovely atmosphere for a mothers day family meal. Reasonably priced as well. Definitely worth a visit

This place is surprisingly excellent. Really nice interior with lots of space. Good selection of food and drink on the menu. Food presentation was on point. We opted for the specials. I went for the lobster risotto and my wife got the fish and chips. I really enjoyed my risotto. Really flavoursome. My wife also loved her fish and chips. The tartar sauce came in a shell which was a nice touch. We also had the ciabatta with chorizo and other cured meats for starters which was lovely. For dessert I got the crumble and my wife got the Eton mess. Both of which were great. Although the crumble wasn’t quite as good as my mum’s from the day before. Service was very good, although we did have to wait quite a while for them to take our dessert order. *Update* We have since been back again. We went on mother’s day so we got the specials. I got the beef and my wife got the chicken. Both of which were great. The meet was tender and delicious. Unfortunately, I thought the Yorkshire pudding was a bit soggy from being drenched in gravy. The potatoes were lovely and crisp, cauliflower cheese was pretty good. I felt the carrots were a bit undercooked as I prefer them a little softer, although I understand this is all subjective. On the side we got pigs in blankets. Our starters and dessert were enjoyable too. We did have to wait a while longer than other guests for our main to arrive but, it is worth noting that a member of staff came and apologised for the delay. We were also unaware that we charged extra for our meal until a member of staff approached and said that she forgot to take the deposit off the bill but she rectified the situation. I think maybe on food alone I would give this joint a 4 but the service is that good that I’ll keep it at a 5.

We went to the restaurant for a meal. The food was good and the cocktails as well. Everyone was happy with all the choices, is nit cheap but once in a while is good to treat yourself.

The ambiance of the place set the stage for what turned out to be an exceptional dining experience. But let's talk about the main event: the roast dinner. The roast was nothing short of spectacular. Each component on the plate was cooked to perfection. The meat, succulent and flavorful, melted in my mouth, indicating the care and expertise that went into its preparation. The vegetables were a revelation - not just an afterthought, but stars in their own right, roasted to bring out their natural sweetness and depth of flavor.

It's a while since I've been in the Ship Inn, love the new Bistro. Nicely decorated, spacious area which serves great food. Staff friendly and helpful. Would recommend.
