If there was an option for 6 stars, this pub would get it. Came here after a walk in the area and walked in to friendly staff and a warm fire. It was a weekday so not so busy we got a table straight away. You think it can't get better. It does. The pie was amazing, mash was amazing and gravy was amazing too. Such lovely food we had to get dessert and that was, as predicted, amazing. Can't wait to come back here again and try the other food on the menu, really exceptionally good pub to come.

Thank you so much to the staff and chef tonight. We were having a family meeting but I hadn't realised the time and hadn't eaten. They very kindly opened up the kitchen again after 8.30pm so we could have some soup AND IT WAS UTTERLY DELICIOUS 🌶️🎃🌶️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you.

Yesterday I was part of a large party who attended the Ship. The waiting on staff were excellent, however I don’t think the quality of the food reflects the pricing. In my opinion as someone who used to be a head chef, It was nice food. I wound happily pay for and eat again but only if the prices were lower. I think the soft drinks we had were also over priced and a small filter coffee at £4.45. I don’t think I would of ordered it if I’d seen the cost of it. This is just my opinion, the atmosphere was pleasant and staff friendly and very helpful. I don’t think I would return again due to the food.

Last two occasions, the meal was poor. I wouldn’t return on that basis. However, we also received a £60 private parking charge for having parked in their car park. Signs are not noticeable (we didn’t notice them), they don’t advise you when booking a table that you need to register your number plate inside, nor when entering, nor when ordering. You just wouldn’t know. Once the parking charge was received, the pub were of no help and didn’t respond to emails. Will never return.

Great place (bigger than you expect from the outside) has a nice covered courtyard at the back and a really nice atmosphere inside. Service for drinks did take a little while but there were a good bunch of customers. Food was great! I got a small fish and chips and my girlfriend got the Steak Frites [steak an chips]. The steak was amazing, and the same for my meal. Staff were very polite, smiley and helpful. Great please, highly recommend

Underwhelming. We'd been recommended this pub and were looking forward to Sunday dinner here. Sadly it did not live up to the expectations. Firstly the menu had run down (no steak and ale pie left, or lamb) so we ordered roasts. They were underwhelming for the price. The beef was better than the pork, but both were mediocre at best. The service was poor - very busy and it took too long for our orders to be taken. The food was slow out too. It's a lovely setting, a really nice atmosphere, but the food and service let the place down when we visited.

Sunday lunch for Family birthday. So we booked at table for 10 for a 76 birthday meal with all the generations of the family. We specifically choose the Ship Inn as we have had two or three lovely birthday celebrations here over the last few years. Our friend Craig Knight used to run the kitchen a few years ago The setting is lovely and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately this last Sunday we were very disappointed with the food, which was to our huge surprise as this is normally the best part of our previuos visits. The Sunday roasts were very bland and normally the vegetables would arrive separately to the meats. This has no changed and considering your paying nearly £20 a meal we were all a bit disappointed. The cheese and onion pie special looked like it just come straight out a freezer and heated up in a microwave so again a left disappointment. I am not sure if the fact the water supply system was down to the pub if this had any effect on the quality of the food but it's was a shame as it tainted our birthday celebrations. The staff did a great job as you were very busy but we just felt we had to comment on the food. Have you changed the kitchen team in the last 6 months as it seemed vastly different from our last visit. We still had a enjoyable birthday family celebration and thank your excellent team Paul Miles / Kirsty Farmer

Me and my partner was recommended the ship by a few family members and friends so we thought we would give it ago even as we are not from around styl, we also asked our friend to come with. Firstly as we arrived, we had booked a table in advance and nobody was there to greet or take us to a table, we had to find our own table and ask to sit there. We decided to sit outside. Second we waited to order drinks in which was a short time before being served, the only good time in the 2 hours we had been here. Ordering food on the other hand was ridiculous, we waited around half an hour for the waiter to come and take our order. Yes Sunday you would think they are busy but there was 3/4 waiters walking around not looking to be doing anything. Eventually we called the waiter over to take the order.. fine. Thirdly as a chef myself I am aware on food produce and prices. Feta starter sounded lovely so I ordered, around 20 minutes later it arrived as 3 small cubes of feta cheese, a few pomegranate seeds 1 small cherry tomato in half and no sign of honey. False advertisement clearly and definitely not worth £8. Anyways 2 mouthfuls of that later we had finished and also the 2 small tacos which my boyfriend had was also not worth £8 each. We then waited for starter plates to be cleared for around 20 minutes (Horrific customer service) Then eventually my boyfriend told the waitress to take the plates away as we was starving! Then the main courses around 40 minutes later after the starters eventually came and I was shocked to see as I ordered a mixed Sunday roast that the pork meat was a pork scratching, the beef was so so dry as was the roasties. The gravy was not a hearty gravy just a bistro and water job. Very disappointed. I understand as I usually work Sundays myself (this being a day off in a long time) in my place of work it does get tiring and it is a long day of repetitive orders I do understand, but to get to half 4 and this be the food you provide it’s not good. Overall I wouldn’t recommended, and I was really looking forward to it. Shocking customer service and very dry food.

Lovely place we found the staff very polite and helpful. They had regular visitors and guests new to the area. The breakfast was plentiful and good quality. The toast and preserves were delicious. I particularly liked how the staff even on break would stop and help each other or just another little job. Particularly found watching the lady waitress who, upon chatting too found she wasn't the owner but a combo of her and her husband are part of the team that helps out. What a wonderful way to describe your working day. I especially liked the little milk churns that went with the pot of tea. The toilet is discreetly hidden and clean. I would definitely recommend. Next time I hope to try the homemade cakes that look so tempting in the display cabinet. Service speed was good and we were offered sauces ect after the meal arrived. Really thought about the little details in their service.
