The Swallows Nest in Bromsgrove

Party of 10 Seating area was wedged into an alcove which clearly wasn't big enough Starters did not come out together One starter was recorded as a main and once sorted came after all other starters were finished The starters were good once arrived One main was incorrect- ordered sirloin steak (even asked about how they liked it cooked at point of order, rare medium or well done) yet what came out was sirloin of beef Sunday lunch. Mains did not cone out together. No sauces offered until half way through meal. Yorkshire puddings shattered when cut into (clearly been in a warmer for an extended time) Roast potatoes were terrible (clearly been in a warmer for an extended time) Not enough gravy and due to where seated couldn't get the attention of any staff to request more Server wanted to clear table before all had finished eating Bill came out wrong Split bill requested which took an age to sort Server couldn't provide a pdq receipt so had to retrieve receipts from the till between each split of the bill. Burgers, fish and chicken skewer all very good. Sunday lunch not good at all except the meat which was excellent.

Had lunch with a few friends and we all loved the food and enjoyed ourselves. The service was excellent considering how busy it was.

Regularly use this pub for lunches and evening meals with friends and booked the last 3 years New Years Eves. Food and Service, as always was wonderful but the entertainment last night (New Year'sEve) was terrible. Every song sounded exactly the same, just screeching, the guitar was so loud the girl had to screech just to be heard above it. Conversation stopped on most tables around us as you couldn't hear yourself think let alone talk. Not sure if the management put this act on just to clear the pub and finish early. People left in their droves within an hour of her starting her session, 2 tables around us were discussing where they could go at such a late time and on a new years eve so they could enjoy their evening. The whole thing was such a shame, she was not suitable for the venue or the occasion, the only respite people got was when she took a break. Had we not had a few taxis booked at gone midnight which were prepaid, we would have left about 10 pm ourselves. I don't think we will bother again on a new years eve after this, it spoilt ours and many of your guests evening. By 1150pm on the evening and on a new years eve you had the singers 3 friends and just us left in the pub, surely you could see how people felt, the previous new year had been terrific, perhaps you'll learn ?

Food was very good. New server was good ..score for Atmosphere is lower because we were in a very small room on our own.

Another fabulous meal at the Swallows Nest this evening. The ‘Sunday lunch’ Roast beef and Trio superbly cooked and enjoyed in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Special thanks also to our server Chelsea…..brilliantly cheerful, polite and helpful every time we visit. 👍👍

My wife and I chose this restaurant for our first meal out on Boxing Day due to my wife's illness over the past 12 months. Due to my wife having a Wheat Allergy, we reviewed the menu on line to ensure the menu was appropriate. As this restaurant is owned by Mitchell & Butler ( where we have eaten in many of their restaurants in the past) there has always been Gluten Free alternatives/Menus. Unfortunately the menu on the website for Boxing Day, differed to the menu on the day. We advised the waitress of the wheat allergy, but unfortunately they do not have a separate GF menu. We were then provided with the Allergen Advisory information, which is of no use, when you know what foods to avoid on the menu. We managed to choose a Starter and Main course from the menu but there was no GF desserts available. Therefore my wife's only option was ice-cream/sorbet. I chose the Baked Vanilla Cheesecake for dessert but when it arrived it was still frozen and inedible however I was offered an alternative dessert. We were aware that this is a dog friendly pub but the table next to us had a cat sitting with them throughout the whole of their meal!! Its a good job someone with a cat allergy was not sitting near them or spotted by one of the dogs!!

Visited for lunch with a friend, I had lunch here two weeks previously with my husband and friends; on both occasions the food was good and the service prompt. Would recommend despite a staff member telling a local cat who had been sheltering in the entrance that "he was banned". The hostelry is however dog friendly apparently.

Disappointed that 50% of the vegetarian starters were unavailable and told we had to choose from what was left. It took an unhappy response and reflections from the waitress to then speak with the Manager and Kitchen to look at an alternative. All previous numerous visits have been great, so a little disappointed by this one, which would have just taken some wider thinking for a solution, rather than a standard no without checking in the first instance

Great pub venue with comfortable outdoor seating

The food was lovely! However the whole experience was rushed and ruined. We had starters arrive within 5 minutes of order, before even our drinks had been served. Our plates were promptly cleared as our first drinks arrived. We asked for time before our mains were brought to us, as we hadn't even greeted each other properly for our Christmas meal together. This was ignored and our main course arrived within 8 minutes of our starters. Totally unacceptable. I complained but the waitress just shrugged and said "well they're ready" A really negative experience for a christmas get together. That ended up ruined.

Visited with friends have been a few times ,food excellent and good value .Nice views looking across to Frankley Beeches and can see Birmingham sky line in the distance on a clear day .

I had to do a fresh review of the Swallows Nest as it deserves it!!!....... went last night on the 14th December for a birthday meal, naturally it was very busy but the service and food still excellent, we were served by Lauren and another waitress with glasses and long brown hair, Apologies for not getting her name as they both were really friendly and full of banter, I had the Tandoori chicken skewers which was lovely but I have to highly recommend the 10oz ribeye.... I had this with Garlic Prawns, triple cooked chips, onion rings and peppercorn sauce.... all I have to say is..... OMG!!!! It was perfect!!!! Yet again the Swallows Nest had exceeded my expectations!!!!!

Chose from the festive menu, I had pork belly which was a small square of meat, a few frozen beans, and about a teaspoonful of red cabbage. There were no roast potatoes, no carrots, or pigs in blankets. I had lemon tart for dessert which was ok, but it was not worth 31.50.

This is now our go to place for food cooked to a high standard with excellent service.

I love everything about The Swallows Nest. I travel a little over and hour to visit here every year, as it’s my all time favourite place to eat and feel cosy and Christmassy. I wouldn’t change a thing!

We were being taken care of by Stephanie and i can honestly say, i have never been served by someone so lovely, friendly and attentive. Even down to putting a candle in my fathers pudding as i let slip it was his birthday during coversation (so thoughtful and sweet). She gave us such a warm welcome and she is a credit to this business. Many thanks for a wonderful evening, we will definitely be returning and recommending this place to people we know. Also for anyone wanting to go, i advise you book as it is very popular.

Excellent for large family meal. Friendly service, excellent food with plenty of choice.

I’ve honestly never had such slow service. Waited ages to be served for drinks and then even longer for food. It was obviously locals first as people going to bar after me were served first. Shame as it’s a nice pub but it really was bad.

Visited with my mother this week. I would advise to book as besides being very spacious, the place gets very busy. Very well organised and great service. Good choice on menu. Great portion sizes. I wished I had ordered their skewers as they looked delicious.. Great place for a lunchtime visit. Close to public walking footpaths around so great for visiting after walking. Dog friendly in the bar area.

One bar man doing the restaurant drinks from 4 waitresses 15 mins to order food from bar. Menu the same for 6 months. Didn't go back to order a second drink went to the sun pub up the road so I didn't die of thirst.The kitchen staff belowing out SERVICE Was like the cries from a cattle market. Pub going down hill used to go there weekly. Lovely patio and view.

Great pub after a winter walk. Very dog friendly but you can only take them in the bar. Accommodating to babies but probably not so great for toddlers. Decent menu at a reasonable price. Lovely atmosphere, particularly in the winter and the staff are so lovely.

Today my friend and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast at the Swallows Nest. I would like to say thank you to the chef for the great food that was freshly prepared and the gentleman who looked after us who was professional and really attentive. We will be back.

Food and service excellent. The staff are very friendly and courteous, the bar area caters for those with dogs and there is also a separate dining area for those who prefer a more personal service. Food menu is varied and of high quality. A great place to eat and relax.

Pleasant staff and surroundings. Extremely dog friendly, more dogs than patrons so good if you want to take your dog.

We came in for a family breakfast for my mum's birthday today and without booking ahead we were able to get a table without any issues. The service was friendly and they were able to accommodate a few minor requests around the kid's breakfasts which was appreciated. Sausages and bacon were all nicely cooked and the hash browns and grilled tomatoes were good. The drinks were good and for me personally one of the better cappuccinos that I've had in a pub. Sadly then we come to the negatives. Firstly, in a virtually empty pub, 10 of us couldn't be seated together so we were split across 2 opposite tables which made it feel like we were in 2 groups rather than 1. There was no room to be able to combit the tables so we were having to physically move between tables to speak to each other. Almost all breakfasts were ordered with poached eggs, and not a single one amongst us had even a remotely runny yolk. One of the reasons I would always order a poached egg over any other kind is because it's usually easier to guarantee the runny yolk. My wife and sister both ordered the avocado on toast and I honestly don't know what was going on with it but it was disgusting. I can only imagine that the avocado had been pre-portioned out and frozen to be thawed to order, because the texture was just wrong, the colour was off and it was bland and watery and managed to taste nothing like avacado. And for the £11-12 price tag, you would expect at least fresh avacado. My wife would normally polish a dish like this off, but are less than half of hers. My sister also left a lot of hers uneaten too. Most of the dishes came with toast which was not great. It was quite thin and with very evenly golden brown all over which is unusual. Not quite sure how it had been prepared but it was incredibly dry like a Melba toast. Even the portion of butter provided couldn't save it and it was tough and chewy to eat. Again texture wise everything was just off. Unfortunately, of the 10 of us that dined today, none of us actually had a meal without issues. It was nice to get together with family, but the food and overall experience was not great and not one we would wish to repeat so we will likely not return.

Booked for lunch and had the seabass dish which was very tasty. However, the ribeye steak was chewy and undercooked for the preference chosen - we were compensated with a free coffee/tea by the plesant manager. Nice atmosphere in the dining room.

Absolutely fantastic experience. Booked for my daughters hen meal with nannies etc. (before onward bound in to Birmingham). Staff were so attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. I didn’t get the name of the young man who served us but he was so thoughtful and attentive. Food was fabulous and all hot even though 19 of us. Would absolutely recommend. Thank you for my making my daughters day one she will never forget ❤️

I should imagine that it would be fab for a bite to eat. The table set up is lovely. I was just there for a beer or two 🍻 yesterday & must say that the outside seating area is fabulous. But the view out ways everything. Just stunning. Value for money was better than I expected. Recommend for anyone to try. I came back last Sunday to take out my Mum and Dad for Sunday lunch. The meal was lovely as was pudding. The service was also excellent. Definitely be back.

Quiet disappointed after travelling fm the other side of Birmingham to try out this restaurant. Firstly we ordered a bottle of wine which we would have expected the waitress to pour for us but only to be placed there with a tissue which was soak in the ice bucket. The food was ok but the prawns that was ment to be in garlic had non as it tasted like it was just boiled and put on the steak. Then when it came to the bill we had paid and left it the table as no one came to check as they were busy talking to eachother behind the bar. Only to be flagged down as we were setting off in the car to ask if we had paid😔.. quiet embarrassing to be honest. If you had checked the table or us then you would have known it was there in the first place .. we wont be returning

Cosy little country pub / restaurant. Food is always good ,they do always run out of things on menu though . Staff always very helpful and friendly, and puddings are to die for .

Visited for lunch today with my husband and brother. The place was very busy but we were always given attention by the serving staff. Our server in particular was very smiley and chatty without being imposing, which was nice. The food was delicious and generously portioned. Good value for money in a tastefully decorated restaurant with a beautiful surrounding backdrop of countryside. Will go back. 🤗

My second visit to the swallows nest. Pub and service are good but not the signature burger. Main burger meat was tough and slightly burnt. Supplied sundries ok but wouldn't recommend it if this is the normal standard.

Had the set lunch time menu, 2 courses for £19.50. Good sized portions, tasty and great value. Lovely outdoor seating area with a lovely view of the countryside.

We were very disappointed at the lack of items available from the menu. I ordered the king prawn skewers. However when they arrived I could not eat then as they had not been "cleaned" correctly. We ordered 3 mini desserts which took quite a while. Two arrived and then after another 10 minutes we had to ask where the other dessert. Staff were pleasant and tried their best. We were reimbursed for one dessert as an act of good will for the prawns. Overall a very disappointing experience. Sadly, after all the years of going tonthe swallows nest and after a third consecutive disappointing experience we won't be visiting again.

Ben and all the folk at Swallows Nest were brilliant. My wife has various medical problems and needs assistance. Everyone was super helpful, friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It's becoming our Go To place. More power to them all. Check it out, you'll love it.
