The Swan in Elmbridge

I popped in just before Christmas at the weekend and it was busy. I was met by Wendy when I was looking for somewhere to sit and eat with my family. Wendy and her team went out of the way to make us feel welcomed and got us sat down. Then while being served anything was set to the pace we wanted and made for a real lovely evening. The food was decent and what you’d expect from an establishment such as this. Not been here for a few years and we’ve already said we’ll come back. Might even use the garden as a watering hole again in the summer. Thank you to Wendy and her team for a lovely evening and being made to feel welcomed and valued from start to finish. We’ll be back.

I've always given this pub 4 or 5 stars, but, due to a young female member of staff behind the bar on 27/12/2024 afternoon shift I've reduced it. She was sullen, short measured my light and bitter, which has changed from the usual generous measure anyhow. Sorry our group of 20+ won't rush back due to this.

I came for Christmas Day dinner with my partner and I have to say I disagree with the other reviews and I feel quite disappointed with the experience this year. I had the cauliflower soup which was cold, watery and bland and the bowl it was in was half the size of last years, the scallops my partner had were awful they were hard and chewy, the mains took nearly 1 hour to come after the starters were cleared. The Brussels sprouts were rock hard we could not cut into them! There was 1 small slice of turkey, a small child could prob eat more and the piece of duck was chewy, the gravy was watery and very runny and the 2 roast potato’s were anemic looking and there was no more than one small teaspoon of swede. No stuffing and I notice from another reviewers photo they had cranberry sauce in a little pot on the side of the plate, we didn’t get this and wasn’t offered any. The chocolate mouse was not creamy and had a powdery texture which was not nice. The positives were it was a friendly atmosphere, the drinks were fine and the Yorkshire puddings was good. Overall this was disappointing for nearly £100 a person , I can only think that because we had booked for the later time that they had run out of things or they just could be bothered anymore. We have been twice before this and those times were great but this was totally different this year so we will not be returning next year.

Very accommodating service all round. At late notice we were given a more spacious table to fit a pram in. Also our waiter asking on timing to bring out the main courses! Please keep these little attentions to detail, sets you apart from the rest! Great food too, whole party was impressed! Atmosphere improvement - some music in the dining area to create more of a vibe.

5 of us had Christmas lunch at the Swan. The pub was dressed beautifully and had a wonderful Christmas feel. We were seated promptly and drinks orders taken. Although we made it explicitly clear no pork on the booking form, and again when we arrived with the waitress. All 4/5 meals came out with pigs in blankets. The staff were over apologetic and sent our meals back, all of which were replaced in a timely manner. The food was delicious, well presented everyone cleared their plates. Only negative would be the cold Yorkshire’s puddings. The staff were attentive, courteous and all in good spirit.

We had a wonderful meal with my children and in-laws at the Swan recently. I had a perfectly cooked lamb dish, father in law had fish and chips and two other adults had a plaice special. Smoked sardine starters were delicious. The entire meal was tasty and our server, Daisy, was attentive and prompt. Highly recommend!

My son and I went to the Swan for Christmas and so please we did. The staff Ryan and Daisy were wonderful, kind and friendly and very accommodating. The food was delicious, presented well and tasted outstanding. Highly recommend visiting.

We have had the most lovely Christmas lunch at The Swan, 2024, the atmosphere was lovely and the service was fabulous from Daisy and supported by Ryan.

Service was good and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Daisy (our server) was absolutely incredible and couldn't do enough. Definitely recommend!

The main course was very nice although a tad expensive for a cottage pie, the staff were very efficient and attentive. Didn't like the cheese cake very little flavour but that's personal preference, overall enjoyable

Popped in for a bite to eat. The scotch egg and sausage roll were really lovely and fresh. Wendy our waitress was friendly and attentive and we had some pleasant conversation and laughs. Will definitely be returning to try the food on the main menu when we have more time.

Stopped off for a quick bite to eat on the way home from work. Had a couple of starters instead of a main meal due to time. I went with the recommendations Wendy gave me and must say I wasn’t disappointed. The service I received from wendy was excellent, she certainly knew her menu choices!

Excellent quality fish and chips with curry sauce, tartar sauce and mushy peas. Charred lemon to make squeezing easier was also a good touch. Service from Daisy was friendly and efficient.

Met with friends for a free Christmas bite and drinks. Great food, excellent point and a fun friendly waitress. What more can you ask for

The menu was limited and the focaccia, steak and risotto were not available, so this made it more limited. The brioche bun for the burger was hard but the burger itself was well cooked as were the fries. The cheesecake was bland. Service was slow despite the restaurant not being busy.

Popped in on Sunday for the first time whilst in the area. What a lovely place. Huge outdoor space with lovely views of the Thames that we hope to visit when the warmer weather arrives. Had a couple snack dishes and drinks whilst relaxing for a couple hours. Place was full and atmosphere was buzzing with people enjoying the pre Christmas cheer. Wendy had reserved us a small tall table in the window for the 2 of us and was a lovely place to enjoy our drinks and watch the hustle and bustle going on. We look forward to popping back in again soon.

Our party of 4 had a booking at 15/12/2024 and were taken in on time, Daisy who looked after us the full time was fantastic, very pleasant, knowing the menu well and good suggestions too, she was very good and made our stay very welcoming and lovly. The food was very nice and just cooked right and compliments to the chef , really enjoyed our meal, thank you Swan

I’m loving the new ambiance, it feels like the place is at last living up to its provenance, I don’t know who to thank but finally there is a local for locals with fun and kindness . Wendy is a fantastic asset old school for all the right reasons . Thank you swan , (I’m the one that likes the seat by the fire!) Xxxx

Took my 93 year old aunt here for lunch. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were very helpful. We didn't have starters but a very big bowl of olives for only £4, excellent value and tasty. My mushroom and jackfruit main meal was delicious. My Bakewell tart was scrumptious. However, my aunt faired less well and she didn't like the mushroom and squash risotto, but I think it was personal taste, rather than the dish. However, the staff offered her a free desert which I think was kind of them. She had a chocolate brulee which although she said was tasty didn't appear to be a brulee at all - no crispy top. I would definitely go ahead but perhaps not with my aunt!!!

That was overwhelming gastrointestinally, and emotionally. Daisy delivered a wonderful dinner

Great service, Ryan was our server, we came as a family group, one of us has food intolerances and they helped her pick out suitable choices and adapted the food for her. Lovely place as well, great atmosphere for our pre-Christmas meet up.

Olena served us this evening and was very pleasant, however the food wasn’t up to swans usual standards, in my opinion. Ryan the supervisor was very apologetic and reassured us that they are working to improve the food situation. We, as regular customers would like to return as we love the pub, especially at this time of year, with all the Christmas decorations and the fire going, but today, it’s wasn’t as warm and cosy as usual and

We've been going to The Swan in Walton quite a few times over the years but yesterday's experience was below par. Having said that, the service we received from Olena was great. Also have to mention Ryan, who took on our feedback sincerely and amicably. We'd still go back here again, based on our previous food experiences.

We had a lovely Sunday toast at The Swan. We were served by Wendy who was polite, very friendly and helpful.

We organised a Christmas Sunday lunch for 7 families and our kids in the semi-private swan room and it was excellent. Easy pre-ordering system, lovely staff, tasty food and a great space to be a bit loud with all the young ones! Thanks so much!

Went here for Sunday lunch with friends (one of whom arrived late but they were very understanding). Great menu, really good food and friendly staff. And no music playing in every room so we could our conversation. 👍 Really liked the Swan.

Amazing place first time we came here for a Sunday roast and was amazed. The wine selection was beautiful. We had the beef and the pork roast and was blown away, the flavours was unreal the veg was roasted and tasty overall unbelievable. We had daisy and Sophie serve us tonight and they was attentive and brilliant. Thanks so much will defo be back! Atmosphere is beautiful also! Cosy and welcoming

Love the Swan it’s a great pub always great but my mistake went for the fish of the day yesterday instead of the usual fish and chips it was far too bony and hardly any fish on the bones . But rescued by a nice couple of pints Guinness and chocolate brownie , all served by wonderful staff Just trying something different avoid fish of the day grab the burger amazing , the cottage pie or a steak instead no complaints guys it was what it was

Didn't eat here so could not say anything on this side. Lovely place bit dated on the inside. outside is picturesque in the daytime.

Party of 10 booked for 4pm got table at 5.05 awful table just 3 old tables put together. Not enought room for all . Food took another 40mins no cutlery had to go back 3 times to get sufficient. Food overall dismal .I can cook and food for price just totally poor . I understand busy however if you cannot manage with amount of custom rather keep your values high . Overall will never visit again my wifes birthday and 47 wedding anniversary. Family came from 150 miles away very disappointed standard gone down since last visit. Just wanted to leave

Hey Neil. It would have made 5 stars if there wasn't a load of cloves left in my apple crumble. They were incredibly overpowering, and I struggled to finish it. There were a lot of them. Quite unpleasant. The roast was delicious, and the service was fab. I would perhaps move your tables away from the bar, as this was quite invasive while eating. Otherwise, for an unplanned meal, we had a great experience. Thank you.

Amazing ambience with plenty of seats outside!

We waited an hour to be served. The toad in the hole was very good and the atmosphere was nice. Now that planters (for no apparent reason) have been put in the road outside the parking is terrible which would put me off going back.

Olivia was very attentive and efficient.

£20 for a roast dinner that we couldn't cut the beef on, we left hungry. There really wasn't enough food to justify a £20 spend, 1/4 of a carrot, a dessert spoon of mash, a dessert spoon of leafy greens and peas mix and 3 roast potatoes. Lovely Yorkshire but that's not so filling, and 3 small slices of beef that we couldn't cut. The food was also cold, and we didn't get table water as promised or checked up on during our meal. It's a shame because the setting and atmosphere is lovely on. I have a photo but I'm not sure how to add it.

Couldn't fault anything about our Friday lunch experience, Bill was also very attentive! Fish, chips and garden peas were delicious, with the added bonus of curry sauce. Husband had the beef burger and said it was excellent.. We will definitely be returning.

Came up to the pub for a lovely lunch with my other half to come and see my good friend Neil he was so nice came and joined us for a nice chat and a coffee he will turn this pub into the most amazing pub ever that’s what he does look forward to returning food was good and service was just amazing thank you Neil 🤩

Excellent service highly recommend The Swan very accommodating. I booked a table for 19 people for my husbands birthday we had loads of space not all crammed in. Food was great all came out together no one waited. Our server Bill was very good always making sure we were ok

We had the worst steak ever. Very chewy for £22! We ended up eating one steak out of the 2 cutting out the edible parts. Left a message for the chef. Nice garden though.

Disappointing. The service wasn’t as good as it has been before. Lots of staff but not attention. Wine was dumped on our table wirh the lid on. Wasn’t poured. 2 glasses but both different sizes and dirty. So I asked for 2 clean glasses the same size. The same glasses were given back to us and clearly looked like someone has run a rag around them! Food was really salty. Used to be a real treat visiting but we spend 160£ inc bar drinks and wasn’t worth it.

Amazing food, hands down the best burger I’ve ever had! And what more, they accommodated for my gluten-free intolerance. Our server Martha was very helpful and attentive.

We didn't have food today. We.did enjoy delicious and refreshing 😋 drinks. Sat in the sunshine 🌞 on very comfortable outdoor 😎 seating. Relaxed. Excellent river location.

All 5 of us had fabulous burgers from the burger shack with delicious crispy curly fries. The best thing was they had gluten free buns for my 7yo son. The burgers came quickly and all of the fads of our children were catered for correctly on each burger...no lettuce, no cheese, completely plain etc We sat in the garden and it was a lovely sun trap the waitress was also very friendly and helpful.

Ok, beer ok, garden ok, would not rush back but would return.

We had a lovely meal and our waitress was very efficient, however we do have a couple of criticisms regarding food. Veg served with Fish and Chips and the fish pie were both cold. We did say and was offered replacement but it shouldn’t have happened. Cheesecake was stale and tasted nasty. It was taken off the bill. Maybe a free drink to apologise might have been good customer service. Other than that a very nice evening.

We went for just a Sunday roast which was delicious ,especially the beef.One lady at the bat went above and beyond to find me some Erdinger 0% lager going to the cellar and all the other bars to get me some.

Really sad to see such a decline of our one time go to pub. Sat outside, smashed glass on the floor which is not ideal. Tables not cleared so most of day had an accompaniment of insects. Food was slow, cold or wrong. I’m afraid to say we won’t be rushing back.

If I could give a zero for food I would We got the burger that was well over cooked it was like cutting into a solid block chips must of been cooked in very old oil as they had a terrible taste The gnocchi was even worse then the burger I've honest not tasted anything so bad At best its worth having a drink here on a summers day but for food I would avoid We turned up here so hungry and walked away not touching the food that's saying something

Appalling service…short staffed, 55 mins gap between starter and main….noone to clear plates, noone to get the bill….food dreadful….will not be returning

View is great but we ordered food and waited 50 mins to be told they ran out of one of the items and we need to wait for another 20 mins. So sad and hungry right now :((

Nice garden, nice view, but food and service awful. We ordered bread and olives and a main course. Nothing happened. After an hour and fifteen minutes and numerous complaints, it arrived. Pasta covered in cheese despite that I told them three time 'no cheese' and the gammon was just a few slivers of indifferent looking pork. Worst dining experience in years. Disgraceful. Not recommended.

Enjoyed a meal here that was great. Friendly staff and beautiful views across the river. Service was good, seats a bit uncomfortable in pub itself. Would be 5 stars but the pub had washed down its garden furniture leaving muck all over it. 5 stars otherwise.
