We have been a few times through the week and ate from the Dine for Two menu and have enjoyed it. Last week we decided to try the Sunday lunch and shared a starter of calamari then had the ‘small’ lunch each. Delicious, so much so we went again today. To call the meal ‘small’ is a misnomer as there was so much food that the staff boxed the leftovers for us. The staff are lovely and looked after us very well. We will be back soon.

Current favourite stopover place in the uk. Everything was great. Try to travel down the east coast as an excuse to stay the night.

Fantastic food and lots of it, great selection too. Staff very chatty and friendly can't fault this pub in any way. I can't wait to return.

I was really impressed with the food here. The vegetarian stuffed mushrooms were absolutely delicious and the chips were great too. The menu is excellent and reasonable priced and the place has a lovely atmosphere. Service good too and I look forward to returning.

Well what can I say except fantastic! Fantastic welcome even tho it’s first time I have been I went on a recommendation from family thought we would try Christmas fayre food presented beautifully everything was piping hot and so tasty nothing was a trouble I asked for extra gravy was given it no questions asked was full from starter and main but had to push my Christmas pudding in couldn’t leave it beautiful

As the name suggests – it’s got a rustic/pub feel inside. It’s comfortable; nothing too fancy. So what’s the food like? I can honestly say – it’s probably the best in the area in terms of quality and portion sizes; the taste and quality are faultless; the portions – generous. I opted for the Mix Grill (as usual) – for the sake of comparisons; 1) it was a good size – comparable to the South Causey’s large grill 2) the taste was definitely top notch; the steak was an inch thick and was deliciously tender for a rump 3) the plate came piping hot 4) the side accompaniments – chips, tomato, onion rings, salad and mushrooms – were perfectly delicious; and the salad had balsamic vinegar drizzled over it – great! I can’t fault their Mixed Grill; this sets the bar for me – for Mixed Grills in future; I would say – it’s the best I’ve had to date. The food is simply delicious and you get plenty on your plate. So this is an unassuming demure restaurant/pub – that’s ready to give you what you expect; great food that fills you up. They do have free Wi-Fi – but you have to ask for the password. There is a negative; well – the glasses could be cleaner; err – they had smears on the lip - on the four glasses we got. Well worth another look in future. Can't fault the food.

We visited last night at around 6 o clock. Received a warm friendly welcome. We didn’t have long to wait for our sirloin steaks with peppercorn sauce. They were cooked to perfection. The onion rings were really delicious as were the chips and mushroom. It also came with garden peas. The pub was starting to fill up as we left. We will definitely return.

Have been meaning to try The Three Horseshoes for years. We were not disappointed. ‘The Bramble’ gin cocktail on offer was an additional plus. We felt well looked after. The homemade dishes we had were good quality and generous in size.

We visited this pub whilst on a bank holiday weekend stay in Durham. We checked TripAdvisor for a good Sunday lunch in the area and we weren't disappointed. We were treated with welcoming service and a nice table. The choice of drinks was good and the food was fantastic. They were huge portions, perfectly cooked and piping hot. The male (maybe the owner) was really friendly and made a special effort to chat to us and make us feel welcome. Our little girl even got a free bowl of ice cream.

Last week when touring in the region found ourselves wanting a drink and light lunch and came here; very limited wines we wanted a dry rose but they could only offer Zinfandel but we enjoyed a good white Sauvignon; extensive menu from which we chose a starter and a sandwich respectively; curiously the man asked if we wanted them served together or after each other; efficiently produced and very good; the total price of the wine and food of such quality was less than could have been charged so exceptional value. This is an unpretentious pub which appears to be a hub for the local community which is as it should be but the downside when we were there is that there was a children's party in the conservatory and children were trekking backwards and forwards to the toilets. Owner and staff very eager to please.

We had family visiting and we wanted a place for a party of 10 to go. I had heard good things about there Sunday lunch. booked a table there was plenty of room. we were given enough time to sit and get comfortable before taking drinks orders. We then ordered meals the staff were very accommodating on all different options. We were 5 adults 4 children 4-7 and a toddler nothing was too much effort or trouble. The wait for good wasn't too long. Good portion size and lovely lunch plenty of veg, extra gravy if needed. There were ice creams for children included then 3 of us still had room for puddings. With drinks meals puddings the price was very good. Would recommend and visit again.

I hadn’t been here for decades and thought it’d be worth a visit as it was close to home.

Pass this place 3 or 4 times a week and decided to give it a go, It wasn't busy as we arrived early tea time. Guy at the bar was welcoming and very efficient. We both ordered the fish and chips and they arrived in record time! My suspicions were right and confirmed, reheated chips and reheated fish, when you are paying £12 for fish and chips you expect them to be freshly cooked and golden brown in colour not dark brown batter which was rock hard to break into and burnt greasy chips which is what we received. Totally unacceptable! needless to say we will carry on passing this place never to return!!! Please reply if you can be bothered.

We chose this place for Sunday lunch as we had never visited before and fancied a change. We were so glad we did. I rang and booked which was just as well as it got really busy, really quickly. We both chose from the two course special for 10.95. I had prawn cocktail which was fresh and tasty whilst hubby went for potato skins which he said were lovely. I went for pork for mains and hubby chose beef. The portions were huge, the veg cooked to perfection and hubby loved the fact they bought an extra Yorkshire pudding out for him. Three thick slices of succulent pork with crackling and a tasty stuffing. Will definitely be back soon!

We have been meaning to try here for quite a while so today we popped in for lunch. We were met by a lovely friendly lady who showed us to a lovely little table. The menu is quite extensive with a special s board too also 2 coarse meal s also.i opted for the homemade veggie burger which was one of the best I have had homemade chips salad coleslaw and onion rings it tasted absolutely amazing and was well presented too . The other half had the 2 coarse special black pudding to start with and home ham and cheese pie with homemade chips and a cheese sauce he said it was absolutely beautiful. We didn’t have a pudding as we were too full. Overall the food was beautiful hit all the right taste buds well presented with friendly staff all in all absolutely faultless. Can’t wait to go again .

OMG just had the best Chinese sticky pork at Three Horse Shoes. Would highly recommend it, will defo be going back for seconds. Lovely homely surroundings, can't wait to return

Food was nice, building itself is lovely. Staff however are awful. There is one gentleman who I’m assuming is the owner who was lovely, there is a blonde female working there who also seems to be higher up and she was awful, no customer service skills what so ever and I have heard the same thing from friends and family who have visited this restaurant before. Not one smile, no manners and looks down at you like your muck off her shoe. She should not be working with the public if she has no customer service !! I and my friends will not be returning because of this woman. Also the waiting staff didn’t crack one smile the whole time either. Get some new, happy, welcoming staff in there and the place would thrive ! No wonder the place is never busy!!

Called in today for the first time in a few years but will be back soon made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in the door, service with a smile and canny banter only place in Stanley that's ever brought us a FREE SNACK to the table, met Darren & Melanie for the first time but wow what a lovely couple ❤️

Today, 9.10.16, we're just home from a Sunday Lunch, 2 course, £10.95. EXCELLENT. I left a 30% tip I was soo pleased with their food, ambiance, staff (mix of youngers; girls and a lad, & the Mgr and his team) all were attentive, and knew their jobs. The young lad bought us a high chair for my granddaughter,11m, (it was spotless clean - but not after she had finished with it - another reason for high tip).Orders for drinks taken promptly and with courtesy by the young lad, and quickly arrived. More guest arrived, seated and served as quickly as we were.Meal orders taken, and food arrived quickly, staff checking all was ok, and offering extra gravy and vegetables (didn't need either) - there service and courtesy was 100%.Food was lovely, crisp veg, lean meat, large portion. Ate it all.Offered and accepted a free bowl of mix veg and mince for my granddaughter, she woofed it down - what didn't land on floor!!!Desserts were fine. Had a quick look at playground at rear of property, would be lovely in summer, also peeked into the huge conservatory, which when we left was being used for diners.I believe property is under new(ish) management, don't now when they took over, but they have a great product; its clean, with lovely ambiance, great staff team, hands-on manager (he was serving too)... and great food.Go give them a try...
