The Village Chippy in St. Helens

First visit since reopening, one of the worst fish and chips we have eaten, fish was dry and fatty and must have got cooked an hour ago, the chips were disgusting must have been warm ups from lunch time

I have switched allegiances from the Rainford Supper bar to here. It shuts too early, but it does fish and spam fritters and the lady serving is lovely. My fishcake had been sitting a but too long and was hard and burnt but otherwise it was a treat. Could do with marrowfat mushy peas too!

Would not return, food wasn't nice waited ages even though my fish was in hot cabinet other people who came in after me were served first won't be returning or recommending

I regularly use this Chip Shop because it is local, serves excellent food and is really friendly. The chip shop does serve other food including Chinese and Greek but it is the only fish and chip shop in the village to serve fish! Portion sizes are really good and the fish is fresh and also freshly cooked to order. Wait times need to include this cooking time but there is no issue waiting. I have tried a few meals from the menu and everything is delicious. It's very much a team effort in there and I know the staff really want you to enjoy the food you've ordered. You can pay by card or cash, so there is no need to visit a hole in the wall before hand...some other takeaways nearly don't take cards. In addition, there is also excellent parking outside, which can be a pain in the neck elsewhere. I particularly recommend the combination of a large fish, chips and gravy. Not to everyone's taste, but from The Village Chippy a real treat which I love. It's great that this wonderful village has such a reliable traditional chippy at its heart. Thank you. Paul.

Normally love the chippy here however got there at 20:13 and the locked the doors as we arrived was not at all pleased as it says online it shuts at 20:30 and on trip advisor 21:00 waste of a journey

Great portion size ...enough for 2 .hot and freshly cooked .

We stopped on the way through Rainford got uncooked chop suey roll and fried rice looked more like risotto rice to be honest Very disappointed

Very expensive compared to average prices. £6.90 for a sausage dinner where £5.00 to £5.50 elsewhere locally. Parking easy as it's usually empty.

Reasonable chippy, it's only down fall is it cash only

Need a second mortgage to pay for a meal here, 6.90 for a sausage dinner you must be joking! Shame as the food is usually nice.

It's always a great place to visit, especially on a Friday and Saturday night. Staff are the best friendliest people you could meet

I've not been in here for years, I forgot how good this 'plaice' is. Went tonight, fish n chips and a can of tango. Cheers guys.

The Best sit down food establishment.Cant wait until we can sit down in the fast food restaurant again and enjoy fish and chips . Superb fish and chips cooked to order and not left for hours in the warmer like some local chip shops. Lovely chinese food ( cheaper than the rest but using quality Ingredients ) Greek gyro chicken and donner meats top quality . Salt n pepper wow so nice .... Much more on the menu !!!! Love the food from here! The fish and chips are the best in the area, and the chicken noodles come in a noodle box with chopsticks. Great value for money

Had lightly battered fish , chips and.peas and tartare sauce , mrs had scampi chips and.tartare sauce and our two little uns had kids meals , 1 had fish bite and other sausage . All cooked perfectly we will be back !!

Absolutely amazing. When we first found this place. And had a fish dinner. It looked like slop in a tray. But what slop. Generous portions of peas and curry. Pour over home cooked chips. With a lightly battered cooked to perfection fish.

Swimming in oil, I can say with 100% conviction this is the worse chip shop experience I have had. The oil sloshing around the try was awful, the omelette burned and full of oil. The fish and chips the same. Truly awful.

The village chippy has changed front of shop staff. Gone are the miserable , now we have happy , smiling and courteous staff with excellent attitude A pleasure to call and top quality food make this a sure fire winner in Rainford and surrounding areas

Fantastic English meals and the Gyro Kebab is superb. Only negative is Chinese meals not of the same standard as English meals and kebabs.

The best chippy around! It's the only one I'll go to around here. Loads of chippies in the North West just don't cut it, but I really like this one ☺️

Well things have nosedived lately ! .Food isnt appealing .Limp ,soggy chips would suggest the oil isn,t hot enough .The tasty cod they used to serve now tastes more like a fish caught at Siding lane .Sparse portion of peas ! .on the whole improvement needed !

Really nice food. Had the scampi. It was amazing! Husband tried the hot curry and it was really tasty. Both meals were big portions and it came to 7quid which was really reasonable.

This is my favourite chippy. Food always spot on and good choice. Better than the Chinese down the road.

Good chippy but inconsistent with the spring rolls

Asked for a hand full of chips to go with a fish, my mum is 89 and can't eat many, charged full price, £1.30 10 chips, where has good will gone, both fish and chips excellent, disappointed having to pay full price.

Visit one or twice a month for fish and chips , always good quality and quick service other options of chippy food available

Never had a bad meal from here. The fish are ooked to order and the batter is just perfect. Friendly staff. Always get a take out when staying in the area

What a refreshing change, a chippy that provides great food, good portions and very reasonable prices

Amazing fish let down by dry crumbling barm cakes. This might not always be the case as I've only visited once. Easy off road parking in front of the shop.

I've visited this Chippy many times in recent years and it offers a great choice at very reasonable prices. It's always easy to park outside here in the evenings, which helps ensure the food is still warm by the time you get home.

Well worth a visit if you like fish and chips. Order your fish as you walk through the door. They don't sell anything but good cod.
