The Vine inn in Vale of White Horse

Such a pretty pub in a pretty village but for us, that is where it stopped! Booked a night away for a birthday celebration and especially chose this pub as in the photos I could see 2 fire places but on one of the coldest Saturdays in January, the fires were not lit. Food was disappointing and everything felt like it was done on a very tight budget....not even a full toilet roll!!!

I love my new local, the Vine. The landlord is a charming font of local knowledge and the landlady is a wit! All staff are lovely and friendly, good range of drinks, and great food. Nice warm fire fire the winter months, spacious garden with play area for the summer. Very clean loos. An all round winner that welcomes everyone and provides a proper pub experience for a reasonable price! The building is wonderfully old and historic, a must see.

Lovely friendly community atmosphere. Staff really made us feel at home. Delicious freshly cooked food.

So disappointed, A member of our family booked for a get together, the pub is a lovely building that was what the two stars is for After looking at the website and reviews , it felt like an ok place to meet .The menu on the website was very different to the offer firstly . All seven of us ordered fish and chips (it looked great on review photos ) what we got was very different .we all got two very small pieces of fish, my thought was they only had 4 fillets and rather than ask three of us to change they thought cutting them into three would give us two bits each , they were thin and very small . The chips , were very low standard frozen chips that had been dunked in the fryer for too long with peas and tartare sauce for £17.50 I expect more. Some of the guests were still hungry and mistakenly ordered puddings at £7.50 . The cherry bread and pudding tasted synthetic and bland and was over microwaved .sticky toffee pudding was disappointing too . I can’t understand why the reviews from the summer were good. Maybe they have lost the chef ? Wouldn’t recommend it sadly .

Algunos de los huéspedes todavía estaban hambrientos y por error pidieron budines a £ 7. 50 . El pan de cereza y el pudín tenía un sabor sintético y soso y estaba en el microondas. No entiendo por qué las críticas del verano fueron buenas. ¿Tal vez han perdido al chef? No lo recomendaría tristemente.

Era mi primera vez aquí. Reservé en línea en octubre / noviembre. Me reuní con primos segundos que me encontraron en Ancestry cuando construían su árbol genealógico. Soy el último de mi familia, así que es muy reconfortante tener una nueva familia. Después de que se había ido, la joven asistente del bar parecía muy avergonzada y vino a disculparse conmigo. Nunca me dieron su nombre, convenientemente estaba apagado, pero tengo su nombre en mi correo electrónico, es Rory. Después de otros 45 minutos, se nos mostró en lo que solía ser el conservatorio, decorado con un árbol de Navidad, etc, todo muy agradable, polvo espeso a lo largo de la amplia estantería de la ventana. Cuando llegó el menú, no era el mismo que estaba en línea y el único artículo que todos nos sentimos capaces de pedir era el pescado n chips. OK, estábamos dispuestos a darles tiempo para redimirse, pero esperamos más de media hora para 7 patatas fritas de pescado, pero cuando llegaron, en lugar de un trozo decente de pescado fileteado, todos tuvimos 2 rodajas pequeñas y anchas, demasiado cocidas como lo eran las patatas fritas de horno. Sentimos que solo tenían 4 piezas de pescado, así que las cortaron en 3 y las repartieron en nuestros platos. No se parecía en nada al pescado anunciado en línea. Todavía estábamos hambrientos así que pedimos un postre. Ella nos dijo que solo quedaban 3 Sticky Toffee Puds, así que 2 los pidieron, uno un pudín de pan y mantequilla y yo pedí Eton Mess. Los caramelos pegajosos eran en realidad chocolate con salsa de chocolate y el pan n mantequilla estaba en el microondas y stadgy y el mío era un pequeño vaso de nimiedad con 3 bocados de crema, 2 cada uno de moras y grosellas negras probablemente congelado y 2 pequeños trozos de merengue en la parte superior. Nada de fresas ni helado, nada. Nos cobraron 17 libras. 50 cada uno para el pescado n chips & £ 7. 50 para los postres. Fue una estafa correcta y nunca iremos allí de nuevo, o aconsejar a nadie más a hacerlo. Hicieron £ 156 de nosotros y nos fuimos muy decepcionados con ellos, pero nos divertimos charlando y riendo de nuestros propios momentos personales.

Sentí que el pescado era muy pequeño 😕 más bien una porción de niño. El desierto que pedimos no era lo que obtuvimos 😒 incluso las ollas de pimienta estaban llenas de granos de pimienta, así que no era capaz de agitar la pimienta en su comida 😕 así que me decepcionó mucho y sentí que era demasiado caro para el tamaño de la comida que se obtuvo. También el servicio era muy lento. Definitivamente no voy a recomendar a otros 😡

De camino a Oxford, paramos porque era un pueblo muy bonito. El gran aparcamiento estaba bastante vacío, y el tiempo era bastante horrible. Precioso y cálido por dentro, saludo amistoso, y se encendió un fuego de leña. Nos sentamos junto al fuego y tuvimos un vaso de tinto y una cena de carne asada decente. El pub era muy tranquilo (estaba lloviendo muy fuerte fuera) , y nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos. La carne era rosa y decente, con buenos asados, porciones decentes y un buen vaso de buen rojo. El precio era razonable en comparación con donde nos vivir en Londres.

We had Sunday lunch at this lovely pub. Food was great and service was excellent. I would highly recommend.

We won't be returning. Maybe we went with the wrong expectations... There was play equipment for the kids, which is why we chose it... but the kids didn't seem welcome... Our kids can be lively at times... But weren't particularly so today and they were constantly monitored by members of staff... Left us feeling unwelcome. Food wasnt anything to write home qbout, and wasn't cheap, but was ample. Hey ho. Hopefully the next person will have a better experience.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Good food at a reasonable price for adults and kids. Lovely garden with play area. A good village pub.

Iba a ir al Cumnor Village Hall a bailar en el campo escocés a las 2 pm. Ofrecen un almuerzo de pensionista de dos platos por £ 15 un miércoles. Reservé y llegué al pub. Había hecho una visita de reconocimiento, y el hombre había dado una muy buena impresión en esta visita. Sentí que el lugar tenía virtudes pasadas de moda, y estaba bien administrado - como si hubiera estado en las fuerzas, o sabía cómo hacer las cosas. La mesa tenía un mantel. Un plato de pollo y manzana crumble fueron traídos, y eran lo que quería. Fue un gran placer estar allí. Me fui sintiendo que era un buen lugar para ir, así que recomiendo a fondo The Vine Pub, Cumnor.

Precioso pub local. Buena comida a buen precio. Me sorprende que algunas críticas aquí sugieren que el personal es antipático; he estado yendo al pub durante varios años, y no solo son encantadores, sino también populares entre los lugareños. Solo puedo pensar que los clientes descontentos son más propensos a dejar comentarios que los muchos felices.

The Vile Inn indeed. Inhospitable staff does not really make the place worth the visit. Wonder if the proprietors have realised yet that customers might be important for their pub restaurant.

I only had one bitter shandy and my better half had a few glasses of wine. My drink took a long time to arrive?? from a different bar (out of sight) and was extremely flat. It felt like slops of old or perhaps very little lemonade? I didn't complain as I'd already had a bad day.

Good food and beer. Friendly owners. We visit this pub regularly and always feel welcome. Lovely beer garden too. Quiz nights,Morris Dancing, Aunt Sally, its a great place to unwind.

visited after reading good reviews on opentable and it exceeded expectations. Well set table with clean linen. Friendly staff/landlord. Only one cask ale but it was smooooth. Very tasty Sunday roast with a large portion of vegetables all cooked well. A few things on the menu not available but it was a very quiet January. Big windows looking out on to the garden, would be great in fine weather.

We had a family meal here for a special occasion and we received such a warm welcome. All of our requests were accommodated without issue. The food was delicious and the service was faultless. We had a really special time and will be returning.

Rude, belligerent and no wonder it’s empty most of the time. Just wanted to relax over a pint, but got shouted at when asked if food was available. Apparently they were understaffed while seemed more overwhelmed. No greetings, no thanking customers. More go away and don’t bother us. Avoid the place, much better options around the corner.

...and not for the right reason! Greeted by what can only be described as a sourpuss landlady, so rude! No wonder the place is always empty. The food was nice but not nice enough to encourage you to return.

The landlady is extremely rude ... I am not sure why she is in hospitality. Ruined our family dinner. No wonder this once wonderful pub is empty. Sack the staff who whisper continually behind the bar to each other and start again!

Whilst staying locally, we were looking for a proper country pub with great food. The Vine Inn was recommended and didn’t disappoint. We received a warm welcome and an overview of the menu. A great selection of traditional favourites available. Lots of beers and wines to choose from too. The pub is quite spacious and I was very impressed with the large garden. Highly recommended.

Looked after well here, the food is great and the pub garden is lovely, perfect for children.

The pub has a lovely and spacious outdoor area, I was lucky enough to visit on a day when they had a steak offer! Steak + pudding for only £20, the food was delicious.

Didn’t have pretty much the only vegan item on the menu. The substitute had a long hair entangled in the salad. The southern fried chicken goujons were just tasteless deep fried chicken slices dripping in grease . Chips were nuked and the onion rings were also just dripping in grease. Big dead daddy long legs on the table aswell that we relocated to the shelf next to us. Nearly £50 for the pleasure , well overpriced for bland tasteless overcooked greasy food that made me feel quite sick! With all that said The waitress was lovely and very friendly.

I ate the burger, and it was one of the best I've ever eaten, and I generally only ever eat burgers. Prices are more on the expensive side but if all the food is of the burgers quality then it's well worth it.

'Highly recommend this place, stopped in for some much needed nourishment on a very cold and windy day, I had the sticky bbq porkbelly bites with these crackling crumbs sprinkled on top and a cabbage slaw which was exquisite presentation and lovely flavours all round. The food came out very quickly too then I had the king prawn and chorizo linguini which was again well presented and full of flavour. Place seemed a little bit empty and couldn't understand why with such beautiful surroundings and great food too. A lovely open fire welcomes you on the way in too and very cosy. We visited on Wednesday lunchtime to celebrate our relatives 90th birthday. We had a wonderful time from the moment we stepped through the door. We were greeted with a friendly welcome, hot fresh food, lovely drinks and great service. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. They made a special occasion even better. We will definitely return. Everyone needs to know about this little gem!

Perfect pub for every season! Outside area for summer and glorious fireplace for winter! Food and service impeccable. Highly recommend!

Dropped in for a pint as I'd not been before. Very quiet at the bar, not the most welcoming initial vibes. Interesting choice of muzak on the radio, and interior seating could do with an update. All the cask ale pumps were off. A pub with potential, at least the fire was lit.

Went for the first time this evening for the BBQ and fireworks, what a lovely place, staff were lovely, very warm and cosy. Definitely will return! Thanks 😊

10/10 Roast dinner. Been struggling to find a decent one recently but this was perfect! The cauliflower cheese was banging and I left the plate empty. I’m a big fan of the veg and find a lot of places don’t put enough on (the same with gravy), but I couldn’t fault the Vines. Dessert was also great, I had sticky toffee pudding. Could’ve done with a bit more custard or some more options on the menu but can’t knock what I had!

As a local resident who would dearly love a friendly, cosy, community based pub the Vine is a shambles. Hostile management/staff, average food, no quizzes, garden events, music. Ultra bright lighting in the main bar. I know many local friends wishing the pub would up its game, maybe ask locals for feedback, send us a questionnaire- you could improve SOOO much (and make a fortune in the process), but instead you plod on, changing chefs every once in a while. This pub is usually empty, which is no surprize at all. Such a shame!!!!!!!!

The better of the two pubs in the village I grew up. The library room is lovely, as is the garden. Very nice couple running it, great fish and chips. Much better than the very poncy and impersonal Bear and Ragged Staff.

Delightful ! Sitting in the beautiful garden in the sunshine and enjoying a delicious fish pie.... a great end to having done a walk that morning. Staff were very very pleasant . and coffee, freshly made was served with proper milk ...yippee. Lovely atmosphere.

I have to say this was the worst Sunday lunch that I’ve ever experience, over priced and served on a child’s plate. I started with the pate, the bread was slightly toasted on one side and had to be returned to the kitchen two more...

Very quiet when we got there but the host was most amiable. The food was all freshly cooked, the portions were generous and of good quality. Like lots of gastropubs, one day they are very busy, the next quiet so staffing is awkward. Be prepared to wait for your food but it was worth waiting for.

Went for a family Christmas meal, Rich and Val are lovely hosts, food was incredibly tasty and plentiful, the pub itself is a lovely oldy world venue with wooden beams and floors, good ales and wines. Will be back and highly recommend visiting.

A good roast lunch although piled high on much too small plates. Importantly, although we made it clear on booking that my husband was coming on a mobility scooter, we were not told that the (excellent) accessible toilet was not available at the moment. This resulted in a very difficult half hour negotiating the entrance to the normal 'gents'. Rather spoilt the whole experience.
