We had a lovely Saturday night stay here and felt very welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room (3) was warm and cosy and the beds were very comfortable. The cooked breakfast was delicious and the portion size was generous. As others have mentioned, the only downside was that it was very noisy. Our room was above the toilets so we were kept awake until well gone midnight and I could hear the staff from about 6am. You are warned about this when you book though so I'd still give it 5 stars!

Nice rooms, with a cosy little pub and handy Indian restaurant right on our doorstep! Perfect for our needs. Substantial cooked breakfast included in the price, and continental breakfasts too. Staff so friendly and helpful, especially as we forgot half our stuff and had to come back for it! They are also very good with people with mobility issues, and went out of their way to change to a downstairs room for older members of the party, and even shovelled snow away to make it safer. Thank you for a lovely stay and excellent service!

The review is for The Volunteer Inn’s luggage transfer service—we haven’t ever gotten to stay in the inn or eat at the pub. The Volunteer Inn transferred two suitcases for us from Bath to Chipping Campden along the Cotswold Way while we did the walk over 10 days. This is the second time we’ve used their excellent service, and we would be glad to use it again. They are very reliable and responsive, and the price is reasonable. Also, they handled the bags carefully. Highly recommended!!

If you want to sleep before 1am then it's not recommended that you stay here. It's a very noisy place. The 'sourdough' for breakfast is actually cheap white loaf. We also had no hot water when trying to shower as 'the boss' had turned it off without any warning just as we were getting ready to go to a wedding. Very disappointing for 120 pound per night.

An honest 'pub with rooms' - nothing more, nothing less. The bar was busy when I arrived, my room was quiet (though there was some noise from the nearby washrooms later), the en-suite room was large and warm, breakfast in the morning was prompt and filling. Didn't have the opportunity to try the Maharajah restaurant, which is apparently highly regarded. Staff were helpful, attentive (but not over-attentive) and informative. Would recommend for any visitor not looking for a 5 star hotel, and/or on a budget.

Great to have a pub in the front part and an Asian restaurant in the rear part. Seems a very successful arrangement. Pub is a friendly locals 'sports' bar but not a great selection of real ale for the CAMRA types. The restaurant owner is very friendly and helpful. There are a couple of TVs in the bar and one outside by the smoking area showing sports and a nice garden out the back. When we arrived around 12 pm from London by train( and then taxi ) there was no one at the Inn and no sign that we were expected, so we left our bags and had a wander around returning several times until finally someone appeared at 3 pm. We were organized to our room which was very simple and clean but definitely not 4 star. It was noisy until about 11 pm being above the bar and breakfast was fine but perfunctory. We didn't find anyone there particularly charming or welcoming. As an overnight stop to start the Cotswold way walk from Chipping Camden it is practical and cheap but 4 star ratings are misleading.

The bar is a great place to be and the service is among the best in the High Street, I am not the biggest fan of curry and I have read other people complain about the smell, this doesn't bother me personally - how else should an Indian restaurant smell? Onion bhaji were over cooked, dark balls of deep fried onion with little taste, but great danger of a consequent visit to the dentist.. Curries were bland and overly sweet, naan bread greasy and doughy. Adjacent table was dirty and ambience was that primarily of a takeaway, with a couple of tables for folk who may wish to eat there. Which you really shouldn’t do unless all other options have been exhausted.
