Not as good as it used to be for Sunday roast.

Cannot recommend this place, especially for food. Stale crisps with sandwich. Cream cheese missing from the sandwich (excuse was they were waiting for the dairy order to come - fair enough, but tell us rather than shortchanging us..). I’d personally be embarrassed to serve a burger which was such poor quality.. The person in the kitchen was definitely not a real chef. Asked for mayonnaise as was given a HUGE tub, far more than needed (not sure what happened to the majority that wasn’t used..?)! Overcharged (though this was rectified when questioned). There must be better pubs in the local vicinity!

Only stopped in for a coffee, but it was dirty throughout and not very inviting.

Second time staying here recently, my first stay was really positive, clean room with good facilities and the staff on were very friendly! Unfortunately my second stay was very different, I booked the same room with en-suite and was very upset to find out on arrival that I had been put in a room with no bathroom, just a very strange shower in the corner of the room with no curtain or privacy and was instructed to use a shared toilet down the corridor. The lovely gentleman who checked me in was very apologetic and went to speak to the manager, he then came up and informed me that she 'didn't like' me because I had changed my reservation date so had put me there. (This is an actual quote!) I never write negative reviews, especially to independent businesses but the next day I was told I wasn't allowed an email address for the owner or anyone except the manager. A gentleman staying saw all of this unfold and actually offered me his room (en-suite, which he had paid significantly less for). I didn't accept this of course. I did ask if I would be refunded for the difference I paid but I was told it wasn't possible. Such a bizarre experience, and a shame that the manager's issue tainted what is actually a really cosy and charming little hotel!

At £4 for a half pint glass of soda and lime I would avoid this pub.

Shame the location of this pub means it is not visited by more people. We only came across it when we were out for an after evening meal walk whilst visiting the area. Had a kind reception by a polite young man, the choice if drinks was good. The place was nicely decorated and clean, just so quiet!

Extremely helpful and personable young woman behind the bar when we were there. Deserves a raise.

Excellent. Had a great evening with Alex. Had fun. But we were only in the pub and not in the hotel.

Popped in for a drink with my folks. Impressive interior, with a beer garden (4 or 5 tables?) and a couple of ta les out the front. Small but good selection of drinks on tap. Staff friendly. Music choice was cool 60s and 70s on the Saturday afternoon we went. I'd definitely go back.

A one* is an extremely excessive high score, given because beer and staff were pleasant enough. On a warm and sunny Sunday I was surprised that the pub was so quiet. I last used The Wellington some 30-40 years ago, when they offered a very good roast. Unfortunately, this no longer the case! We both chose the beef option and discovered that every element of the meal was incorrect and very poorly prepared. As an example, the beef was so cold it must have served directly from a fridge! I prefer a rare cut and my partner well done. In both cases we were unhappy as only 5% of the joint had change to brown. I can criticise every other aspect of the meal. My partner had already paid on ordering which included a 10% service charge. Cleanliness is also a major issue. Every service is tacky to the touch. My partner had used the toilet. However, her recommendation was to wait until we returned home, despite being in my my 70’s and needing the loo.

The location is superb! 👌 It's close to beaches and attractions. It's 15/20 minutes easy walking from the coach station. There's a beach just in the left corner, grocery shops, public transport, pubs, and restaurants on the road. The room was comfortable and clean. There's a cattle and plenty of cumplimentary coffee and tea. The staff was helpful and polite.

Went for late lunch with family 8 July 24. Couldn't believe the amount of food. The chef and staff catered for vegan and veggie and double checked. Meal was delicious, service fantastic and environment relaxed. Would go again. Wish I had a photo

Booked back in January for b&b,got no breakfast on both mornings of our stay,rooms are filthy,nothing like pictures on website,thick cobwebs hanging down,need proper blackout blinds as current ones are no good. Suggest the owner spends a night in each room,as will they will realise the beds are broken,no where to put toiletries,book or personal items.staff were apologetic,couldn't offer any refund but were really helpful,cos their hands were tied.still advertising outside that they do breakfast on Saturday/Sunday mornings from 9am-11am even though staff don't get there till 11,chef gets there at 12noon.

Waited an hour for the worst roast dinner at a pub I've ever had. Left half of it. Meat was disgusting. Cauliflower cheese was just Cauliflower with cheese grated on top. Wouldn't give the food to a dog. Shame really for a decent, historic building and pub that is clearly so poorly ran.

We popped in for an evening drink. The bar staff kept us topped up with amazing cocktails. Really lovely place for a quiet drink

Awful!!! The room was small, there was no en-suite, just a random shower and a sink in the corner of the room with no privacy, had to go down the corridor for the toilet which is not great in the middle of the night, heating was on full on one of the hottest days of the year so far and couldn’t be turned off, it was meant to be bed and breakfast but the pub wasn’t even open until 11am so no breakfast, nowhere to leave keys if you wanted to check out early, thankfully we only stayed one night, wouldn’t stay here again!!!

APPALLING. We arrived to what we all agreed was a dirty outdated pub with sticky tables. We waited 1 hour 30 minutes for 4 roast dinners to come out, the food was awful. Reheated potatoes, frozen Yorkshire’s and undercooked veg. No one came to our table across this time to apologise for the wait or ask if we wanted more drinks during this unacceptable wait for food. The toilets were disgusting too. Across this time 3 tables walked out due to the wait for food. To top this off we were overcharged on every single meal against the price advertised on the menu. We would never go back. Avoid like the plague, just awful in every sense

Went with family and dogs today for Sunday roast. On arrival nothing was said about problem in kitchen and there would be at least an hour wait for food. Girl brought drinks over spilling some on way as she did with other drinks she was taking to people .3 girls working in bar area but not doing a lot. Tables left dirty and uncleared not nice to look at while you were waiting for food. Everyone complaining asking how much longer for food. Seemed to be bringing out about 6 meals in an hour. Awful. another couple had wrong food brought out after waiting ages. They were disgusted and walked out. After 1 and half hours some of our food came out. Nothing like the advertised photo. Yorkshire pudding cold and uncooked in bottom and all looked unappetising. Decided we were not paying nearly £20 for that and decided to leave. Another girl who turned up was working harder than all 3 girls put together and was apologising and trying to put things right. The other 3 need training on how to run a bar and restaurant. Terrible experience ruined our day and we then had to travel to denmead for meal as everywhere else was booked by that time !! Disgusting I'm fuming extremely agitated and in a vile mood will never go again !!

Nice pub , always has been. But is or was very expensive yesterday which is a shame !

We had a wonderful mother's dayunch today. Great roast dinner excellent service with bright welcoming staff. Food really wholesome and brilliant. A great 💎.

What a lovely friendly venue. We were doing a Portsmouth treasure hunt which lead us here, and I'm very pleased it did. The food was outstanding. Probably one of the best lamb shanks I've ever had.

Service was awful , there was no service . Food took ages to come and two were wrong and didn’t come out until everyone had finished . Nobody asked if we needed drinks . We had to go up and ask for them then they still didn’t come . I will never be going there again and will not be recommending it to friends.
