After a 5 star review previously, it's only worth a 3 this time. We didn't have a reservation but were seated anyway. It has a cosy feel with an open fire in one room and an enclosed one towards the middle of the restaurant, There seemed to be a bit of a rush to get our drink order in, being asked before I'd got my coat off! When the food came out we were both disappointed, both with the look and the quantity. We definitely expected more for our money. My main was a little dry, helped by covering it in gravy and whilst the chicken supreme promised new potatoes, what seemed like one, thinly sliced under the chicken left us wondering if they'd come out as a side dish, adding to the disappointment. The dessert was pretty good though. At the end, when I asked for the bill, I realised after almost 20 minutes that they'd forgotten us, so I went to pay at the bar and we left. We feel the need to give it a miss for a while to see if it gets any other reviews, good or bad.

Lovely pub great staff and a fabulous atmosphere makes you feel really comfortable. Rooms are well presented all with ensuite facilities. Stairs too all roons are rather steep but perfectly fine just have to be carfull. Meals are really lovely with a set menu and a normal A la cart plus a good selection of drinks from beers to wines and spirits. Breakfasts are really good and breakfast area is well laid out. Car parking is very good with lots of space. A convenient location for visiting Northallerton and Bedale plus easy access to the A1 motorway.

Found room had no wardrobe just 4 hangers on a bracket. Curtains hanging of the poles.Toilet seat not fixed properly. Milk in a flask , no.idea how long it had been there or how long it was expected to stay fresh for. The food was mediocre but the biggest concern was the tear in the top stair of the staircase . Very dangerous. .

Highly recommended: A very comfortable room with a very well appointed en suite bathroom, the security is also good with plenty of car parking spaces to the rear. The staff are polite and ensure that your overnight stay meets expectations, the inclusive breakfast is of a high standard. In fact, the food and drink here is exemplary and all dishes sampled thus far have brought about a mouthwatering taste explosion, it’s been a while since I’ve tasted food this good. The location is perfect for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, as the pub lies relatively equidistant between the two areas. Will definitely consider staying here again, the Wellington Heifer is one of those rare gems of a perfect place to eat and sleep. It has a character and atmosphere which the mainstream hotel chains can only dream about.

Very friendly welcome from Jon on arrival. Lovely room layout with comfy bed and wonderful power shower. We stayed 2 nights with a well cooked breakfast both mornings. Star of the show were the evening meals! Delicious belly pork night one but after reading reviews on the luxury fish pie I had it on night 2. WOW! Scrumptious!! Husband said his meals were delicious - king prawn red Thai curry and lamb rump. Reasonably priced drinks too. Great location for Northallerton, Richmond, Bedale and the coast. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning!

Stayed for dinner, bed and breakfast. Rob greeted us and showed us to our lovely ensuite room. Spacious, comfy and clean. We had a lovely meal in a cosy atmosphere. Rob and a waitress served us. Set menu 2 courses for £20 or A la carte. Food delicious, service excellent, can't fault it. Lovely glasses of wine complimented the meal. We saw Rob again in the morn, he cooked and served our breakfast which was very nice. You can have cereal, porridge, juice, tea/coffee and a cooked breakfast. We enjoyed a cooked breakfast and toast with coffee. Rob is a very attentive host, nothing too much trouble. Highly recommended for a night away with some special food and service.

A bit disappointing; over £10 for two lattes only…., to be seated in a cold room with the wrong sized drinks given even though the staff admitted to knowing this - all very strange and all feeling very overpriced. Great location though!

As a local, I'm clearly biased, but I love this pub. Always lively, traditional, and a beer-drinkers haven. Several good hand-pulled beers, some brewed locally, and others available as guest beers. There is no food served here, its sole purpose to be an excellent provider of licensed liquor. Always warm, with an open fire, and Dog-friendly. The staff are hard-working, friendly and offer excellent service even when it's busy. I hope this pub lasts forever.
