Had a pleasant lunch all fresco. The main dishes were interesting and tasty. Portions generous. The service excellent and the atmosphere relaxed. The apple and rhubarb crumble however was disappointing. More like a muesli breakfast topping. Slightly overpriced.

Met some friends here we’re all local. Nice garden but that where it ends. The menu choices were poor and the prices ridiculously expensive as were the portions. We had a sandwich the bread was hard and it looked so unappealing and a small cup of 7 chips. And our friends got the same with their burger. Also I had to return my drink as I found hair in it and also my husband found the same in his pint. The drinks were overpriced as it was. I was disappointed really and won’t be going back, the pub seems to have lost its way

Drinks were very expensive. Absolutely hate the spotlights. Used to live in this pub but as my friend said as we were leaving- it looks a traditional pub from outside but inside it's now a brightly lit restaurant. Went to a nearby pub instead which actually felt like a pub- and was miles cheaper.

My friend and I had an absolutely superb meal. Our food was delicious, hot, beautifully presented and the service was first class. The pub is clean and the staff so friendly and welcoming. We are now going to make this a regular venue for our get togethers. I had the belly pork and my friend had the chicken burger. Thoroughly enjoyable. Would totally recommend a visit. We are lucky as this is quite local for us.

Dinner on Saturday night with a best friend. Our first visit to a pub since Boris lets off the hook. The 're booted' Wheatsheaf is seriously impressive inside and out. The food is outstanding, service with a smile and very engaging and it was very nice to see packed for the weekend back indoors, all socially required measures in place mind you. My only small comment is i would like a few more beers on tap craft IPA's or Pale Ale or maybe that's just me thinking that. Anyways cant wait to go back

Love this pub fir it's atmosphere, beer and wonderful summer beer festival, but we're very disappointed in the lunch we just had. With so many lovely pubs nearby they really need to up there game, we will definitely not return for lunch again. Our side of chips were smothered in salt, something that should be left to personal choice. The ' baguette' was the end of a very soft roll, certainly not fresh bread, and the dude salad was poor. Such a shame when you pay to eat out and could have done do much better at home. The barman also was a little slow with service to say the least, and seemed to find the menu difficult to interpret during orders (not just say ours) - had to check if cheese was the same as cheddar! Somewhere I want to be able to return to as, as previously mentioned, I really like this pub, but PLEASE do something about the food.

We have been going to the Wheatsheaf for many years and it is a lovely pub. But! If you order food, be prepared to wait! We have visited on a number of occasions with friends as we think it is a great example of what an English pub should be. But we have, on the last 3 or 4 times, ended up apologising to our friends for the ridiculous length of time it has taken for the food to arrive, and then, I'm afraid, for the quality of what has been put in front of us. Sad to say it will be a long time before we go there again for anything other than a drink.

A quaint, traditional, "ye-olde-inn" nestled away in Willingdon Village - the perfect place to finish up a beautiful walk across the South Downs with a cold drink and some lovely food. Wednesday and Saturday nights are always popular too with live music on these days every week, plus the weekly quiz on Tuesdays always makes for a lighthearted challenge! The Wheatsheaf offers a really welcoming atmosphere from the chatty locals and friendly/smiley staff to the old, low beams and trinkets on the wall - it really is somewhere where you could spend the whole afternoon relaxing in a comfy chair (or the beer garden if it's warm enough!)Since recently becoming manager, the lovely Alison has introduced a small but popular and varied new menu, a new paint job and an ever widening selection of new and interesting (and sometimes local) beers. All in all this pub is well worth a try - it's been my local since I moved to the area 8 years ago and I'm sure you will enjoy it on your visit too.

After our experience here I am left amazed at the other reviews. They're all giving 5 stars - our food wasn't worth 5, service wasn't worth 5, the whole experience was awful. The first sign that all was not well was when my husband rang to book a table. The person kept asking him to repeat everything - several times. My husband hasn't got a strong accent and no one usually has a problem understanding what he says, so what was going on here I don't know. They didn't say what the problem was but my husband got the impression it was the bar man and he was very busy. They didn't take our phone number - which is unusual and they should have done to avoid the first big problem of the night. Their card payment machine wasn't working. This was a celebration meal out for our family, so we had walked there so my husband could drink - he had 3 pints - instead of driving here as we also know it is a nightmare to park in this narrow road which is usually filled to the brim with cars, which it was this night. We'd also rung to ask if we could take our dog with us and were told yes - but there wasn't much room for him to lie down by our table. The seating area is quite small where we were put. There were a lot of dogs in this pub on this evening. So my husband had a long walk to the nearest ATM machine to get cash out at the BP garage on the main road down the back road which was very dark and which ran out of pavement at one point, so was dangerous for my him.He got back and we were looking at the menu and two of us had a real problem finding anything we liked to order for a main course. The young girl who was the only waitress - and very over worked, told me there were two specials which weren't on the menu. The other table had a couple sitting there who weren't told about the specials and they too were having a problem choosing, so I told them about the specials. This problem needs addressing - more staff are needed and the menu needs more information on it, put the specials on there - with the price as the waitress doesn't say what they cost. One special was a starter - prawns with a chilli sauce - so my son ordered that. He was very disappointed as it was just a few prawns with a small pot of chilli sauce - nothing else at all and he was left very hungry and fed up! We all felt the charge for it at £6.50 was too high.I had the trout infused with beetroot with a salad which was kolrabi and apple, it said with a whiskey and walnut dressing - well the dressing wasn't a dressing at all and it didn't taste of whiskey (thankfully as I hate it!!). It was really weird, it was big lumps of hard stuff like sugar with walnuts in it - very stange and it just didn't go with what else was served up. The trout was too salty (I couldn't taste any beetroot) and the apple was far too soft and tasted horrible. The kolrabi was enjoyable. My other son had butternut squash soup which came with a big bread roll. He liked the roll but found the soup too bland which we all tasted and agreed with him, it was like it had too much water in it. What a shame. My husband had a scotch egg which he really enjoyed - the only one of us that enjoyed their starter!Main course - well I had another starter due to nothing appealing to me on the menu - nachos with melted cheese on top and 3 dips. The nachos were very fatty and salty, the melted cheese wasn't cheddar and whatever was used didn't suit, it went into hard lumps and didn't taste nice (our dog liked it!) and the dips weren't brilliant either, two were quite watery.Hubby had the other special on offer which was calves liver and bacon - it came sitting on a large mound of white stuff - it looked weird! Ages later he got a pot of gravy and another dish of vegetables and altogether it was tasty for him, costing £11 - so he thought quite pricey but he loved it.My son who also struggled to find anything on the menu went for a vegetarian option - stuffed aubergine. When it arrived there a lot of salad leaves, a big slice of bread and an oval pot which contained mostly aubergine - there was loads of it and not a lot else - he wasn't impressed with what he got - again. My other son had chicken curry which came with a small amount of rice, a naan bread and some homemade mango chutney. He was pleased the chutney wasn't spicy as some are nowadays but twice had to spit out things from it, a whole black pepper and I think a cardoman pod - they should not have been in there - my son was disgusted at finding those and overall he wasn't happy with the curry. Two were still hungry and wanted dessert so we asked the waitress for the menu for those. We waited ages for her to come back and were just about to give up when she returned. Sticky toffee pudding - son had, didn't enjoy. White chocolate ice-cream which I heard the waitress say all ice-creams were home made - I had, yeuck - large lumps of ice and not much taste, I make good ice-cream - this was not. Rice pudding with strawberry and elderflower had by hubby who enjoyed again - 3 dishes in a row - he was lucky! When we ordered drinks the waitress didn't bring them, an older man did - he didn't ask who they were for, just put them down - like a water he gave to me when I still had half a glass of water and my son wanted it who was the only one without a drink. Ridiculous service. We asked for the bill. We got a bill which listed the drinks we had but no prices, total of £72.50. No one came for the money so we went to the bar to pay as there were lots of people standing around and we didn't want our money being stolen and us being accused of not paying. There was a man playing sort of hill billy music - that was a laugh, really awful!!! We were glad to leave that.We got outside and were half way over the road when the waitress called us - I went back and she said she hadn't put the prices of the drinks on our bill - I said that's ok, we don't need to know the prices - I just wanted to leave. She then said she had to give us the extra charges, I asked if she meant there was more to pay and got told there was! No apology - what a weird way of doing it. Hubby went back in and was told the actual total was £91.50, nearly an extra £20. We were not impressed. We will not be going back - ever.

This isn't the place you are likely to find by accident but it is well worth the search. What I like about the place is how genuine everything is, it doesn't have to pretend to be old because it is old. The staff don't pretend to be friendly and welcoming they just are very friendly and welcoming.. The beer can't get any better, it's Harvey's and last but by no means least.. The food is out of this world, I can't wait to go back and try the other dishes. I wish I lived in Willingdon and could use this pub as my local

After hearing good things about The Wheatsheaf Inn, I phoned and booked a table for my partners birthday for the two of us and our 16 month old daughter and we certainly wernt dissapointed. This is a beautifully old fashioned English pub located in the village of Willingdon. The staff were welcoming and friendly upon arrival. We were shown to our reserved table which had been prepared with a high chair ready for our daughter. The menu offered a great variaty of food without it being overwhelmingly big. (Never been a fan of oversized menus) Reasonable prices too.The food was beautifully cooked, Tasted lovely and the presentation was second to none. Each dish unique. Very impressive from the young chefs. Overall - Good atmosphere, beautiful location, lovely pub, Friendly staff, superb food and a great afternoon had. Highly recommended. I'll certainly be back.

Warm and welcoming village pub found in Willingdon.A very wide range of meals to choose from the menu. Lots of great meals at a very reasonable price too. Service was great from the waitress. Presentation was lovely and neat.I would highly recommend this pub to anyone. We were so impressed with the chef, we asked to speak to him, to thank him. What was even nicer was that he came out promptly & he was so lovely and easy to get along with.Bar staff were brilliant. There was a new manager in charge who was lovely too. He sorted out our bill at the end. I will 100% be returning.

Came to here for lunch with some friends and the food was excellent. Good choices on the menu. Beautifullly presented fish & chips. The cod was fresh & tasted gorgeous. The homemade chips were fantastic. Would recommend this pub & the brilliant young chef.

This is a lovely, local pub based in the heart of Willingdon Village.Nice beers and ales, with some really great food produced by a fairly new chef, Seb. I particularly love his fish and chips that are beautifully presented with mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce. The food is great quality and nicely priced. Roasts are very good too.Bar staff are great, in particular Jacob stands out as he is very welcoming and knowledgable - and seems to know what drink you want, before you do!

We have a long weekend in Eastbourne most years, and used to stay at the excellent Bassets but moved this time as Catherine and Howard have retired. When we first visited they recommended the Marine for dinner as "it is where they go". The menu is quite extensive with changing specials. The food is very good and very competitively priced. Staff are efficient and friendly, and, the Harvey's ale is excellent. So much so, we hardly ever go anywhere else, and if we do, we keep coming back.

Sehr freundliche engagierte Angestellte, gutes Angebot.
