The White Horse is a wholesome country pub, situated between Berkhamsted & Hemel. The staff are always friendly & accommodating. In the winter there is a beautiful roaring fire going to keep you warm. Main dishes are delicious & the pudding choices are great.

Great menu, excellent food, friendly environment and attentive service... Well worth a visit.

Christmas Eve dinner. Had 3 courses well it is Christmas!! Was tasty and hot staff great had a lovely evening. A good start to Christmas and will be back for our Sunday roast.

Really lovely experience - super friendly very kind staff who did a great job ( thank you!) , wonderful food ( the Lambs shepherd pie and forager pie my friend and I split and had half of each and both were delicious) , warm atmosphere, family feel but no noisy children, really good acoustics ( so important these days if you actually want to hear what your dining companions are saying!) a super professionally run pub ( you don't see the joins - its all so smoothly well operated) . Highly recommend. Thank you to all the staff and manager of the White Horse for such a wonderful evening ( and for accommodating us at the last minute!).

Faultless experience, all the staff were fabulous, and the food was even better. We only intended on having a coffee but the menu looked so good we had to eat in, and are very glad we did. Special thanks to Stephen for his service, he went above and beyond, but thanks to everyone else who contributed to our lovely meal.

My friend and I had the Classic Fish and Chips. It comes with a large piece of cod in delicious batter with a smaller piece of battered hake on top, chunky chips and mushy peas. The cod was delicious but I didn't like the taste of the hake, next time I will ask for that to be removed. All the staff looked after us very well.

Generally better food than most pubs. Very accommodating staff. Particularly impressed they don't touch the straws, they use tongs to hand them out.

We always feel welcomed here. The staff are friendly and professional too. There is a good menu to cater for all and the food always tastes delicious too. The pub seating is well set out.

We came to the White Horse for a family Christmas meal (8 people). Food was ordered in advance and served at appropriate intervals throughout the afternoon. The staff were attentive without being over bearing. The restaurant was busy, but not too noisy. The food was lovely and well cooked. Will definitely come back and choose from their regular menu. Thank you for making our family meal special.

Once again a big thank you to the white horse. I arranged this festive Christmas meal for a group of my old work friends. I was asked to arrange it at the White horse again after we had a festive Christmas meal last year. Once again everyone had a great time,meal in very pleasant surroundings. Of course a lot of this experience in down to the attentive and pleasant staff. I must also say a big thanks to the reservation team for their assistance regarding me making my party booking on the new system. 🤗

Decided to skip cooking this evening and visit The White Horse. A good decision: an enjoyable meal in a relaxed environment with friendly service particularly from Carley.

Roast dinner was beautiful ...meat tender roasties lovely and great Yorkshire pudding...best dinner ive had out for a long time ....loved it

Friendly pub, cosy inside, and tasty food. The gammon is large with pineapple and egg, well cooked. The any 4 tapas for £27 are good but many are spicy, great for sharing. Lots of parking.

We were staying at the hotel across the road, so seemed an ideal opportunity to try the White Horse, from the moment we walked in we were made to feel so at ease and telaxed. The staff were incredible and the food was honestly, amazing.. wish this place was closer to home! A real gem!

Went into The White Horse to take my 98 year old friend for a drink. The manager there was so welcoming and let us book a table by the fire even though we were there just for drinks. Great service. Would definitely recommend this pub to anyone wanting a quaint and cute country pub.

Enjoyed the meal. Bit quiet but it was a Tuesday. Decent pint of bitter and we were looked after by Carly who was polite and did a great job.

The rib was wonderful. Not too large portion just right. and it was nice to have a real fire going as well

Been going many years, and never been disappointed.

Saddened by yet another below standard visit met by poor, rude and below standard customer service driven and lead by an even worse attitude from the management team. This visit was the straw that broke the camels back, the food again was below par as always on busy days and this is met by an unprepared and stressed team. The chap in charge has a 100% poor attitude to customer service, arrogant and cocky (we're busy so it's time to leave as we want your table) and this was just after finishing our main course meal and saying that we didn't wish for dessert! I do wonder if we did order dessert where we would be asked to finish eating it! Outside Maybe?

6 adults & 6 kids, with allergies and a dog. The team really looked after us, took the allergies seriously and we had excellent food. Will looked after us really well! Thanks Carl & team!

This is one of our favourite local pubs with an excellent restaurant. We went there for a light lunch and chose from the 4 for £27 choice. As good as usual and it was nice to eat things we would not cook at home

Sunday lunch here was very good: quality beef / pork and decent quantities. My meal could have been hotter: it seemed to go cold too quickly. The prices for mains were reasonable but were far too pricey for desserts: most were over £8 and sounded as if they came straight from the chiller of a catering supplier; those I noticed were small. Very attentive service; however, I do wish wait-staff would not use the phrases 'you guys' and 'grab you a glass' on visits to the table - an excessively informal and cheap way to address people out for a meal.

We come here regularly, Carl is always very friendly and welcoming. Laura is super friendly especially to our dog-willow loved the biscuits and blanket! Foods was great, always is. Lovely pub, lovely staff very dog friendly

Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Lovely olde worlde type pub with wooden beams and a great feel to it. Food was lovely, I had a pie (chock full of meat) and my wife and mum both had fish of the day dishes, all were lovely. Service was outstanding, very friendly and attentive without being overboard. Only downside is the price, as £90 for lunch for three is vey much at the higher end cost-wise for a pub lunch. Definitely recommend.

Stopped in on the way home from wendover woods. Always cosy and staff always welcoming. Roast Pork Sunday roast was delicious. Top marks to Carl and team 😊

The food here is incredible and a reasonable price for what it is. The man who served us was more than capable and an excellent front of house server, I cannot recommend him more highly. I had the chocolate bomb thing for dessert and it was indulgent, decadent and beautiful. We had fish of the day and the pie for our mains and they were exquisite too. The pub is clean and comfortable, with low beams and a lovely traditional pub feel. There is an extensive garden area out the back too which looks like it will be great when the summer returns. I highly recommend a visit to this pub, thank you for a lovely experience.

Lovely Sunday roast today (and still warm enough to sit outside!) both roasts were really tasty and filling and we had a lovely waitresses served us outside. Thanks! It's also very dog friendly with plenty of space outside for our nervous pup to relax.

Me and my partner had a lovely time here, food was amazing and service was impeccable. Our server was very good at informing us of menu changes, meaning my partner could have the calamari. The place is decorated quite nicely and the atmosphere is very nice as well. Would definitely come again

Great service from all of the staff and luckily the place hasn't changed that much from 25 years ago. It has a relaxing charm - ideal for friends and family plus dogs.

Service very slow. Ate our meal with no wine because just couldn't order it, then took too long to come. Order double drinks at the start so you've still got some for the meal maybe?

Second time we have come and food and service has been 5 star both times! Will definitely be back!!!

I had a wonderful dining experience! The food quality was truly amazing, and the service was top-notch. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff remained incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Heidi was the one who served us and was so lovely with our dog, even giving him treats. It’s clear that they are very dog-friendly here, which made our visit even more enjoyable. I ordered the lamb roast, which was cooked to perfection, while my partner enjoyed the fish and chips, which were equally fantastic. The prices were also very reasonable. Highly recommend!

Always a great experience at this lovely pub. We are now fairly regular visitors and tend to commendere the pergola covered area outside. Genuine friendly service from a great team. Good selection of food and drink and in a pleasant and relaxing environment. Carl was super helpful on our last visit, even offering for me to taste a new wine. Highly recommended for a visit.

Wanted to try the white horse Sunday lunch for a while as it always gets good reviews. Finally got the opportunity to visit. Roast beef was delicious as was the lamb my husband had. Everything was lovely except it was all just “warm” didn’t stop us eating it all but could have easily been so much better. We did have the cauliflower cheese extra which was a little disappointing, hardly any sauce and again just warm. Don’t let this stop you going it was lovely, huge Yorkies!

As always, excellent service and food. Very happy to supply my elderly mother with a children's menu. Great music selection but not too loud. And the bus stop back to Berkhamstead is just outside. Perfect. Thank you

Went for Sunday lunch with my husband & mother in law. We all had a lovely meal ( lamb& pork loin) Staff were very attentive and friendly and the food was really good we all had deserts as well and wine would recommend for a family meal here. Food is cooked well it’s not over priced and has a lovely beer garden

Have to say the white horse has such great service, friendly staff, good food, just a really nice pub to catch up with people.

Lunch party organised by a .colleague, my crab and asparagus salad was disappointing. Doubt the crab would fill half a table spoon, about 5 small asparagus spears, plenty of small half potatoes covered in mayonnaise, the whole covered by some sort of greenery. Cost £15.50, worth about £3.00.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the white horse and even though they were busy our food arrived hot and quickly. Nice portions of meat and veg. We ordered some side dishes but in all honesty we didn’t need them. Also had a Black Cherry tart which was delish. Good service, very polite young waiters and waitresses. Would definitely go back 😁

Decent enough but out of 4 of us there was something not great on all of them. Roast - lukewarm, steak - chewy, - fish - a little dry, burger underwhelming.

Highly recommend. Great evening with family and friends.

The White Horse experience on Sunday evening was pleasant, with prompt and friendly service noted. However, the food, particularly the roast, could benefit from more seasoning and improved presentation. Sides were also deemed lacking, especially simple dishes like mash potatoes, which looked a bit sad. On a positive note, the venue offers ample parking and plenty of outdoor seating. Overall, while suitable for a quick visit, it doesn't particularly stand out from the crowd.

An average Sunday roast. Chicken was nicely done and tasted good, not much meat came with the turkey. Roast spuds are not roasted and not many veg, disappointing.

Had a lovely meal and a very attentive, thorough waiter (Carl). He was very good at finding out what was lactose and gluten free. There is also an extensive gluten free menu. I'm not usually a fan of chain pubs but this one is a good chain. I would definitely visit again.

Food is genuinely class. So impressed. Definitely worth checking out for lunch or dinner. Loved it.
