For various reasons we haven’t eaten out much this year, so it’s a long time since we visited the White Horse. We won’t be leaving it so long next time, as we had a lovely festive lunch there yesterday. The pub, as usual at Christmas, was nicely decorated, with its amazing bottle tree, wish I’d got a photo! Colonel Waffle had a mushroom starter & I had spicy parsnip soup, both delicious. My main course was salmon in a sumptuous sauce, Colin had turkey with all the trimmings. The plentiful vegetables (roast & new potatoes, sprouts, broccoli, carrots & peas) were perfectly cooked. For dessert, Colin had a chocolate torte & I had something called ‘lemon berry delice’ which was one of the nicest desserts I’ve ever had. It was a bit like a cheesecake, but better! There was also coffee & mince pies. The service was as good as ever, because the staff are lovely. The atmosphere in the pub was good, too, even though not all diners were having Christmas lunch. We’ll be back!

A large group of us were at The White Horse today for our clubs Christmas lunch, it was a very busy lunch time, but our group, who had various meals off the normal menu, were served with piping hot food, promptly and proficiently. The Chef, Waiting and bar staff should all be mentioned, making a lovely atmosphere for our meeting. Thank you ALL. .

We were recommended this pub by a neighbour and visited today for Lunch. It was lovely, the food was amazing and not too expensive, the staff were so attentive and nice. We specifically chose it because they had a steak and ale pudding (I am not keen so we don't cook it at home) and my husband loved it, good chunks of meat and lovely sides. I had something from the specials board, battered seafood, which was really well done. We will return, it was a good experience. Thank you to all the staff at White Horse Inn. We didn't mention it but it was our 13th Wedding anniversary today, we like to keep things low key and this was perfect for us.

We travelled down from Kent and booked for dinner at The White Horse as we have done previously. We phoned to say we’d be a little late as M25 was horrendous, road works, etc. When we arrived the staff were amazing and looked after us with 5 star treatment, even though they were very busy with band playing and full restaurant. The landlord also came and made himself known to us, it was just a superb evening. Thank you to everyone, we were very grateful after a long journey.

Staying nearby but came here twice because the food and atmosphere was so good. Very friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you. We had seafood including the crab but for me the standout dish was the steak and ale pudding OMG I could have eaten that seven days a week!

Fantastic pub to drop into after a walk up Hod Hill. Been here several times and it never disappoints. This time we went for the vegetable platter to share and enjoyed every mouthful! Dog friendly both inside and out. Two seating areas outside, one at the front and one round the back which is a small covered courtyard. Would recommend and will be back.

Lovely buzzy atmosphere as we arrived. All four of us had the Sunday roast option which were delicious, very generous, and served on piping hot plates - which is an absolute must for me. Desserts also delicious and lovely to see different things from the norm on the menu. Service was friendly and very efficient. Highly recommend.

I have visited this wonderful pub on a number of Sunday evenings throughout the Summer. The management of the pub are so community spirited and have promoted 10 Brass Band entertainment concerts throughout the summer. On Sunday 1st September they had the awards night and presented an array of trophies and prizes. The pub was packed inside and out and they even provided a buffet for all those who attended. The White Hart is a fantastic community pub, friendly and well run and even has a shop!

We were on holiday in Dorset, as were our sister and brother in law (in Wiltshire), so we thought we’d meet up for lunch. We found the White Horse Inn on line and it was the perfect location for us. As it turned out, it was a really lovely pub. The food was great and the pub has a really nice ambience. The staff were lovely, enthusiastic and really seemed to care. Communication when arranging (and amending) our booking was efficient. We loved it!

The White horse was recommended to us by the owner of the cottage we were staying in. Absolutely fabulous food, really friendly staff and interesting military memorabilia in part of the restaurant too. We couldn't fault any aspect of our experience. Popped in for lunch. The tomato soup was ok but quite vinegary, the country pate was nice but a very small portion at £8.50 had to send the toast back as it was burnt, but a lovely fresh side salad. We both had the hunters chicken I piece of chicken swimming in a watery tomato sauce with 2 slices of mushrooms and a piece of smoked back bacon plonked on the top. There were 4 pieces of broccoli 1 hardly cooked the other 3 very over cooked and soggy, carrots had no flavour at all you could have been eating anything, potatoes were going brown in the middle as they had been heated to many times. We took the majority of it home for the dog. The cleanliness of the staff is another thing, making a fuss of the dogs faces feeding them biscuits then wiping there hands in their apron without cleaning there hands before serving other peoples food and placing cutlery on the table. And to top it all we both had DIarrhoea the next morning. We will never be going back.

This was our second visit, the last was some years ago. This was a regular(ish) get-together with two other couples. Unfortunately, our last was something of a disaster. I picked the White Horse on the basis of a very enjoyable meal last time and some good reviews on TripAdvisor. Out of the six of us, we chose five different main courses, all of which were thoroughly enjoyable. Only three of us had dessert, which were also excellent. The service was prompt and friendly. Everything we could have hoped for. I would thoroughly recommend the White Horse at Stourpaine.

Our favourite pub in Dorset, scratch that our favourite pub full stop. Great food, an excellent Guinness, friendly staff, friendly regulars and extremely accommodating owners. We first visited the White Horse two years ago when visiting Dorset from London. We absolutely loved it and were made to feel so welcome and at home that we went every day of our trip, despite not actually staying in Stourpaine. We were desperate to visit again so we went last week taking along my in-laws. Despite two years having passed, we were welcomed back as if we were regulars/family. My in-laws are from Portugal and were (pleasantly) shocked at the level of hospitality and kindness from both staff and the owners. Definitely not leaving it two years next time, we’ll be back ASAP!!

We have been travelling around dorset for 8 days and this is without doubt the friendliest pub we have visited. We called in for a pint and some lunch after walking around nearby Hod Hill. The welcome was warm and friendly and the service was excellent. Even though we were a bit close to the 2pm cut off for food it wasn't an issue, the ploughman's lunch was enormous (enough for the ploughman and his horse) and the beer was good. Only issue was that I was driving otherwise we might have stayed longer. Highly recommended.

The service was impeccable. The team were very conscientious, friendly and hospitable from start to finish. I often find it difficult to visit places with a young baby, but we felt comfortable and well looked after. My son even had a full tour of the premises by the landlord himself! The food was superb and brilliant value for money too. The portion sizes were spot-on. My brother normally eats a lot more than me and cannot be a tough one to feed sometimes but even he was full and very satisfied. You certainly won't be leaving this place feeling hungry!I had never been to a restaurant where I Ioved the baby-changing facility! I usually carry extra wet-wipes and a spare foldable changing mat to go over the top of the changing table in restaurants because they are normally filthy. The White Horse has a pristine baby changing room that is clean and warm (with its own little radiator) with thoughtful touches tucked away for some us more forgetful mothers.I would highly recommend the selection of delicious homemade cakes and sweets that are available at the village shop every day too. They are perfect with a cup of coffee on a rainy day.Overall, the White Horse is a superb restaurant/ pub and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Lived in Blandford for 6 years and (sadly) I hadn't been to this pub before. Nice bike ride along the trailway today with my Son, so popped in to get some lunch. Place was very busy, but we were offered a table in the bar by the fire, which was perfect as it has such a lovely atmosphere. Lunch was great, I had the ham and mustard sandwich with my son having ham egg and chips from the child's menu. Both were very nice with my Son's lunch being huge; lovely thick gammon-type ham. Very reasonably priced and it took me back to growing up in Marnhull (north Dorset) - just had that sort of lovely local bustling atmosphere with a couple of local characters also near the bar just having a drink. Staff were very friendly and attentive and, even though it was busy, our wait was short. Great value. Will be back post lockdown to try the roasts. Thank you

Visited this lovely little pub on a Friday night in October. The service was excellent, our waiting staff were extremely polite and attentive. The Covid precautions were also well established and I felt comfortable for the entire stay. Unfortunately I found the food quite expensive for what it was. We ordered two starters at nearly £8 each for which we received three small breaded brie pieces, three very small 'crab cakes' and an awful lot of artfully arranged salad. My lasagne was delicious but served with one very thin slice of garlic baguette (its so cheap, go crazy and throw two on there!) and yet more generous lashings of arty salad. Enjoyed the night and would go back but maybe just for drinks.

The choice of 'grown up' alcohol free drinks for the 2 of us who can't or don't drink alcohol - not just cola and juice - is amazing, the best we've ever seen. So they could have not only alcohol free beer, but wine or 'spirits' too. Waiting staff were attentive, kind and interested. Arriving fairly late for lunch 1.40 ish the pub was busy and buzzing which is usually a good sign so we thought we’d give it a try as the menu looked good too. The reviews seemed to be good too.Unfortunately the reality wasn’t as good as it sounded! The honey and mint lamb tenderloins served in a rich honey and mint gravy, topped with pan fried mangetout, baby corns and pepper. it arrived looking like a plate of gravy/soup with a couple of very small pieces of lamb floating in it dressed with 2 x scraps of pod, pepper bits and corn which was barely visible and my husband couldn’t actually see! The lamb was tender but insufficient, the vegetables served with it were fine. I had the three bean smokey chilli served with rice and tortilla chips. On ordering I particularly asked for more tortilla chips and less rice please as I don’t eat a lot of rice.It arrived nicely presented in 2 x round bowls and a small ramekin of broken chips with some leaves and couple of tomato quarters. I pointed out to the waitress what my request had been and was told that they’d run out. If I had been told that on ordering I would have chosen the Kerala cauliflower instead! The temperature of the chilli was about right however I think there were probably about 9 x beans and not 3! Mainly consisted of things other than beans. The service was very variable, between being helpful and pleasant to one girl didn’t know anything but wasn’t interested to find out either. We liked the atmosphere but the kitchen could do a lot better!

We had a really lovely meal here on Tuesday. Very good value for the senior citizens . The food was really well cooked and the vegetables were excellent. The lamb was very tender and the desert tasted freshly prepared.

Whilst the food was undeniably good, excellent infact. Sadly our entire visit was spoilt by attitude of our waitress. I find it unacceptable, when I, together with the rest of my family, are made to feel uncomfortable from the start to the finish of our meal by 1 individual. The message was we were not welcome.

This is a superb place to find food and drink. Extremely tasty and great portion sizes, we had a meal and then a Sunday roast here too. The lamb was extremely good! On all occasions the staff were lovely, friendly and attentive to ourselves and all of the other guests.

Stopped here on Friday, 12 July 2019 for lunch with the grandchildren. Was very busy, which is a good sign, lunch was excellent, hot and cooked beautifully. Wanted to change my grand-daughters nappy so asked if there was a baby change, which there was, and how lovely it was. There was everything you might ever need, a really thick baby change mat, disposal covers for the mat, wipes, nappies in all sizes and it was spotlessly clean. Probably the best baby change I have been too. Would highly recommend.

Excellent customer service. We didn’t have a reservation but they accommodated us.We both had the liver and bacon which came with mixed vegetables perfectly cooked. We followed it with a wonderful chocolate brownie with orange sauce and sorbet. The restaurant has an interesting collection of hats on show.Well worth a visit.

We had a very nice meal here when we celebrated the birthday and wedding anniversary of Ann and John. Very warm welcome and pleasant staff. We have dined here a few times as it is our favourite place to dine. Sadly, it will probably be the last time as we are getting too old to travel here from Norfolk.

After cycling on the local trail way, we were in need of sustenance. This pub being so close seemed ideal. On entering the staff were very friendly and welcoming. My husband certainly enjoyed his steak and ale pudding, but I felt the fish pie was short on fish! However, we were pleasantly full and did not need dessert.

Really lovely place and staff - dog friendly and the staff fussed over our dog, which he loved! Our meal was really nice and the pub itself was really cosy and inviting. I highly recommend this place for lunch - really yummy food and the loveliest staff I’ve met!

Visited this pub at lunchtime with some friends. We chose this pub because of the good reviews on TripAdviser and it certainly lived up to it's reputation. We had managed to pick a day when the chef was off, but you wouldn't know from the quality of the food we received. I had the soup of the day (Vegetable and smoked bacon) which was delicious. There were 6 of us in the party and we all had different main courses, and everyone was very happy with their choice. I had beef lasagne which was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere in the pub was very pleasant. I have no hesitation in recommending the White Horse for a good meal. If the quality is that good when the chef is off I can only wonder how good it is when he's working.

As two couples over a couple of hours, we spent a lot of money on drinks plus dinner. The food was very mediocre for the price paid, and the rude and non-welcoming attitude of the staff spoilt our first visit here. They tried to more than double our food bill - belligerently insisting that we had never paid for anything from the start, so goodness knows where they allocated over £70 worth of drinks that we had already paid for with our cash. One of the older women staff finally grudgingly apologised to us. I will never go to this miserable venue again.

We were having a lovely time listening to the folk singers and having a few drinks, which we paid for. Then as time went on decided to eat, which we had a tab for and also a round of drinks with our meal. When we asked for the bill they had added all our drinks from the afternoon, which amounted to being overcharged by £70. When we queried this the staff were quiet rude to us by disbelieving what we said. We said to ask the barmaid that served us but said they could'nt get hold of her, and in the end gave a begrudgingly sorry. We were made to look like we were in the wrong in front of the customers, not very good bar etiquette!

We visited the white horse due to its trip advisor reviews. One of the members of staff (a middle aged lady) was so rude to us! It is the worst I have been spoken to for a long time. She spoke to us like we were idiots and like we had purposely sat somewhere inconvenient for her despite the fact someone had suggested the table to us. She then managed to trip over our dog even though it was lying down being very well behaved and gave my other half the dirtiest look ever (even though I said sorry immediately)! I understand dogs can be a hassle to servicing staff but if they are going to behave like that then don't let dogs in! Our dog wasn't being any problem to anyone. I am honestly shocked that anyone in the service industry could behave in such a horrible way. If she isn't an owner then the owner should be having serious words. The young girls seemed nice enough, but that lady ruined it for us and we left.

Popped in after a walk round Badbury Rings. The place was quiet but very festive looking with a nice cosy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful, recommending drinks and food for a first-timer. The menu was packed with lots of pub classics and there was a wide variety of drinks too. I went for the Hunters Chicken and was not disappointed. Well presented, tasty and a large portion which I almost couldn't finish! All washed down with a lovely pint of real ale. I'll definitely be coming back, thanks Jess's!

This used to be a friendly little cafe with a homely feel and great home cooked food, it has now been taken over and made pretentious. When we went into the now bar area which used to be the cafe we were asked if we had booked a table, we hadn't as we had never had to book a table to use the cafe there before. Because we hadn't booked we felt we could only buy a coffee -which was from a machine and was pretty nasty and not fresh, The selection of cakes was uninspiring so we didn't bother. The feel of the place was cold and impersonal and lost its charm for the locals. It feels more like a pretentious over priced tourist attraction now. We won't be visiting again or recommending to our friends.
