We often visit the Windhover restaurant in Northampton. Sometimes two or three times a month. We had a lovely meal yesterday (Monday) then went for lunch today. Brilliant service yesterday Fred the new manager served us very pleasant chap. Today we were served by Rebecca and Nicole. Absolutely fantastic very friendly nothing was too much trouble. Lovely! With the roaring fire the place is busy but cozy and warm. The staff are always lovely. Food was as always tasty and plentiful, could have been slightly hotter but not an issue. We asked for more gravy and it was bought out quickly. We'll be back.

Extremely poor experience here. The manager decided he’d offer a charming welcome to us by.. telling us off for being a little late as soon as we sat down. There was no attempt to welcome us or explain that unfortunately we’d have a shorter period for lunch, because we were behind schedule.. just a big dose of attitude. Set the meal off to a bad atmosphere. No attempt by him to even try and be welcoming whatsoever He also advised he would try and find some space in the bar after the meal to compensate, but didn’t try. He didn’t make any effort whatsoever on this part, and merely relayed to his staff later that he “didn’t promise anything.” So.. why bother to say he’d see what he could do at the start then? The food was tepid and a number of us suffered stomach pains afterwards; the dinner here being the only common factor. The plates were cleared away and bill brought out whilst we were still eating, rushing the elderly members of our party. They were content to collect several hundred £ off us though. What a thoroughly pleasant experience…Pretty shocking on all fronts. Avoid. In addition you can see they have their own staff writing 5 star reviews about THEMSELVES and the management replying to agree.

Too busy, staff were clearly overworked, and didnt really care - no space to sit, we left. Dreadful

Great food with a warm friendly atmosphere. I've been to the Windhover a few times now and every time the food is good and the prices are reasonable. Moreover there is a wood fire in the corner and the interior has more of a English pub feel than a lot of places now do.

Lovely building and great potential to be a good spot of food. However, for the price point, the food was not adequate. Our £20.50 Chicken and Vegetable Penang Curry had rice that looked and felt like it had been chemically bonded together, or at least reheated multiple times, along with the dry chicken. Table service didn’t seem a priority for the staff here, as we had to attend the bar to get our drinks and place our food order while it wasn’t that busy. Many tables were covered in old plates and glasses. It is a nice place with great potential, however for the price point it’s not worth it for me.

Christmas family get together on boxing day was ruined by dried up food being served. Apologies offered but still only dried up food available again. Obviously could not cope. We sat down at our table at 3.15pm, food did not arrive until 4.30 Awful!!

Amazing food! The friendly staff really made our visit, they were so helpful and couldn’t do enough for u, and to top it off it’s a very Dog friendly pub! Faultless!

Christmas day dinner.. we were looked after by Kelcie who made sure that our meal went without a hitch. The food was cooked to perfection, hot and tasty. Whenever we go there we always feel like we've had a home cooked meal . Windhover is our regular go to for a fantastic Sunday lunch as well. Warm and inviting furnishings with comfy chairs and tables large enough and away from others so you feel like you are in your own home

First time visitor's for both us and our friends.We booked the Festive Menu which was delicious, starters mains and puddings only one issue was vegan sticky toffee pudding not available which unfortunately really disappointed one of the party 😔.Our waitress Kelcie was extremely polite and attentive.Will definitely be returning to try the other menu's. 👍

Group visit. Very enjoyable evening. Food was lovely, presented well, hot and delicious. All Group of friends enjoyed their food. Reece looked after our table, keeping us topped up with whatever drink we wanted. Friendly and chatty . A great Christmas get together had by us all. Fantastic can't fault anything . Very frustrating experience at the Windhover. Asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail which they did not have in stock. Then asked for a glass of wine and was challenged for ID. One of us had ID and one didn't - both nearly 30. They refused to serve the wine, even having read the law that an over age person can buy an over 16 year old a drink with a meal. Server implied that a nearly 30 year old was dating a <16 year old. Pigs in blankets were overcooked and beef was chewy. Overall poor experience, would not recommend.

Had a really lovely lunch to celebrate my husband's birthday today, with our 6 year old and 18 month old, very accommodating for a family. Lovely atmosphere we were sat by the fire and great food will be back, can't remember guys name who mainly served us but he was lovely and helpful thank you ☺️

11 of us went to the Windover for our Christmas meal. The food was perfect, all served together and hot. We had pre ordered but one lady was able to join us in time for desert and they happily let her order on the night. Reece served us mostly and he was fantastic. Took a bit of banter from us ladies with good spirit. He was so accommodating with large rounds of drinks and letting us settle them separately. He always asked us if we were ready for our next course and remembered everything we asked for. We came away feeling like we had a wonderful night and everyone was very happy.

Had a Christmas lunch with a group of 10. Paid a £5 deposit per person and the meal was £31.95 for 2 courses of £34.95 for 3. We pre-ordered our dishes a week in advance. The only issues were no steak and venison pie but they offered steak and ale or any other regular main from the usual menu, and no cheesecake either but any other dessert available. They apologised and said we were the first festive lunch of the season. Not really an excuse, especially as we had pre-ordered. They could have let us know in advance, otherwise it feels a bit like one has been ambushed. Service was excellent. Atmosphere fine, it was a Monday lunchtime so you wouldn't expect it to be buzzing but it was quite busy.

Meal for two 20/12/2024 looked after by Phoebe, two starters, two mains, two drinks and a tip costing £70 is great value for the quality of the food you receive. The steak was cooked very well. Friendly staff. Will be back!

Christmas lunch with family. Not worth the money to be honest. Don’t get caught out! The meals on the Christmas menu at a:set price are the same meals as on the main menu which work out over £5 cheaper! Usually the extra few pounds might pay for Christmas crackers and festive napkins but there weren’t any. We waited almost an hour for our starters which were nice. The turkey roast was nothing special, the roast carrots and parsnips had no roast look to them at all. Pigs in blankets were an extra £2, surely an essential part of the Christmas dinner? The Moroccan chicken skewers were dry and the festive slaw contained sliced raw sprouts which weren’t nice. The food was mediocre, the service, same and the atmosphere very non-Christmassy! Wouldn’t recommend I’m afraid.

We had precooked our table, for the turkey lunch. The main meal was barely warm, the roast potatoes were a great disappointment, tasted as if they had been microwaved to heat through the glazed brussel sprout were hard . Small portion of turkey. Over priced for what you get. The pub was really busy, but unfortunately they did not have enough staff on duty, staff tried their best, which resulted in long long waits between courses. My husband had to actually got to the bar to ask where our desserts were, as it took so long after ordering them. Total time for 2 courses took over 2hrs 30 min. Would not go back again.

Very delicious food, and amazing staff!

Quite disappointed really. Very busy on entry, but no one's fault but only 1 person serving behind the bar at this point which baglogged it further. Given the wrong drinks which happens, then seated at a table after a bit of confusion about where we were going, then told to sit at one end due to a possible leak above the table. Food was good but then had a problem with a red wine which tasted off. Disappointed at the end after paying for the meal to realise 10% was already added as service when this should be our choice to add if we consider the service to be good. Overall quite disappointed

Had a super meal here today, beautiful pub. First class service from the very lovely Nicole and the food was stunning. Highly highly recommend the camembert sharer, possibly one of the best we've ever tried, perfectly baked and for once, enough toast to go with it here! Some places just never give enough! Will 100% be back!

Eaten many a time here in the last 20 years and it is still a great place to eat and drink. Sunday lunch has changed over the years but still worth it in the main.

A fantastic evening for our weekly date night. We haven’t been to the windhover before but we’ll definitely be returning. Fred & Anya looked after us throughout the evening, really great service by both and the food was exceptional! We’ll be back for certain.

Best Roast dinners in Northampton! & great service too , my husband recieved a free bottle of prosecco as it was his Birthday. We will definitely be visiting regularly. Highly recommended .

The food we experienced here today really was sub-par.. The starter arrived and appeared to be a tasteless heated "Scotch egg" not freshly made but just heated up and quite unpleasant! Onto the main course which was unfortunately lukewarm. With a raw parsnip, the worst roast potatoes we've ever eaten and the most disgusting excuse for stuffing we'd ever seen or tried (this got sent back!). Fatty meat and a bill for £55 made this even more painful- we will not be returning. Avoid!!

Food was good, I had rump steak which was nice however the chips were over cooked. My partner had the cod loin which was cooked perfectly. The biggest disappointment was the service, it was just really poor, despite it not being that busy. We waited ages for drinks orders and then they took ages to arrive dispite clearly seeing them sat out on the bar for several minutes. It also took quite a while for our plates to be collected. Just a shame that the service let good food down.

Very good service and food was very tasty

We tried really hard to spend some money but the service was just horrendous. The waitress we had took forever to take our order, then took ages to bring it out. Didn’t see her again until we went looking so never got anymore drinks. Had to find someone else to ask to order dessert. It took 1/2 an hour for 3 kids ice creams to come out and then another ten minutes for the adults desserts. The crumble came out and the pan was sizzling it was so hot, needed to leave quickly at this point as we were now running late so thought to tip it out to cool quickly. Turned out there was no need as it was still chilled in the middle?! I don’t know how you do that bearing in mind how hot the dish was. Food - 2 stars Service - 1 star Nice looking pub though if that counts for anything.

Food was average, some meals had gone cold however they sorted them out and the lady doing our table service Penny was lovely, was very attentive and friendly.

The Windhover has gone through a bit of a transformation in the last few months I think. Had been underwhelmed when I last went a couple of years ago but have now been twice in a few weeks and both times the food was great, with a lovely selection. The service has been transformed ( I believe there is a new team running it ) and they make you feel really welcome. Plus it is lovely to have the open fire going now the weather is getting colder and the night's darker. Nice to be able to have it as my local now.

The food was good. Fireplace in the middle crackling away for a nice ambiance. The service was a little s low at times although helpful. Toilets upstairs. Good parking.

Had a lovely lunch with my youngster daughter to celebrate my birthday and my daughter's 9th wedding anniversary ❤️. Very friendly staff and a good range of drinks and reasonably priced food. Carpark at the rear and easily accessible for disabled guests. The toilets 🚻 are upstairs , not sure where the disabled toilets were located.

Bree and Faith were our servers and they were amazing!! So friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. They helped us out with our dietary requirements. Food was great and fab value

We have not been here for quite a few years, We were very pleasantly surprised, the food was very good with decent sized portions, and very tasty. Staff were attentive and friendly. We will be coming back again soon.

After checking out the menu online and being excited to try the veggie Wellington, we visited on Sunday, 02/09/2024, for a roast dinner. When we asked for the veggie roast listed on the menu, we were informed that it was something entirely different involving seeds. We decided to go with it and requested an extra Yorkshire pudding, only to find out they were out of Yorkshires—something we wouldn’t have known if we hadn’t asked, which would’ve made for a disappointing meal. We ended up ordering something other than a roast. Unfortunately, when the alternatives arrived, they were cold, but we were too hungry to complain, so we ate them anyway and ordered desserts. The desserts, however, were disappointingly 'microwave chewy.' To top it all off, we both ended up with food poisoning the next day. This was, without a doubt, the worst meal we’ve had in Northampton.

Went with family of 4 on Saturday 13th July, it went from one disaster to another. It took ages for us to get someone to take our order, we waited even longer for our food to arrive. When it did arrive, 1 of the orders was incorrect. The correct food did turn up a couple of mins later as they had given us someone else’s food. The steak was fatty and tough, we complained to the manager who did offer another meal but we didn’t want to wait as the other 3 would have finished. Waited ages for the plates to be cleared and for them to ask if we wanted pudding. This arrived around 45 mins later. By the end of the evening, we asked for a coffee and thought we would get the bill at the same time as we would probably be waiting another hour. We were not asked once if the food was ok and yes they did take the steak off the bill but it was shocking service all round. I complained on the survey I was sent and did ask for them to call me but surprise surprise I’m still waiting

Lovely food. The cocktails were also very tasty. The pub itself has a modern but cosy feel, classy and clean. We finished our evening with coffees and mini desserts which were delightful. Definitely recommend. We were served by Josie, who was friendly and kind, served our food in a timely manner but we didn’t feel rushed at all. Will definitely be coming again!

Came on a Sunday, it was ok for a meal. However took a while to be served, my roast pork belly wasn't crispy as all on the top, and the biscuit with my creme brulee was meant to be a shortbread biscuit. It was a cheap sugar biscuit instead. Looks like it's gone down hill a little.

Arrived and created by Kelcie was was extremely welcoming and really friendly. Kelcie also went through food menu as I have an allergy this was picked up from booking notes so very impressed. Food was also great will return.

I can recommend highly the Windhover not only has good food but what we like,is there's always a friendly welcome especially from our favourite girls Rebecca and Nicole they are amazing brilliant at there job but always smiling & it's a joy yo visit...well done girls.👏👏

Beautiful pub and beautiful grounds. The decor is lovely. Dog friendly. Great place for drinks. Plently of parking. Food was ok, we were expecting something more considering the prices. I ordered a brisket sandwich and for the price was expecting a bit more especially from the bread.Staff also took sometime to finally get our order. But overall we liked we will back for drinks.

Top place on the Brampton Valley Way

Brunch is a hidden gem here, we had no idea it was served all week until a friend mentioned it! Overall experience was really good but the coffee was outstanding!! Easily the best coffee I’ve had in years!!

We visited The Windhover for lunch on 28th May as a party of 3; my wife, her aunt and myself. On arrival we were greeted by Nicole, who opened and held the door as I was bringing my wife's aunt in a wheelchair. Access around the bar and restaurant area was easy, with tables well-spaced and I was able to 'park' the chair without obstructing or inconveniencing other customers or staff. Service was prompt and Rebecca took our drinks order almost immediately. After that we were served by Nicole who was attentive, good-humoured and professional. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Portions were generous and everything was properly cooked and hot. Nicole checked on us a couple of times, being attentive but not intrusive. She 'introduced' me to the app, which I have since downloaded. This was an enjoyable experience in a clean, pleasant atmosphere with good food served by friendly, professional staff. We will be back. In fact we were back today, 7th July for Sunday lunch. Again, the food was of a very high standard, served well-cooked and hot. The Sirloin was lovely and plenty of vegetables accompanied it, along with delicious roast potatoes. We were looked after by the delightful Daisy, in the friendly and professional manner to which we have become accustomed here. It is good to note that the standards we have experienced during the week are maintained by different staff at the weekend. Despite the restaurant being very full, service was prompt and efficient. Full marks. I think it is worth booking in advance as this is clearly a popular weekend venue. As Google does not permit a second review, I'll add to this. My wife's Aunt is a resident in the nearby Care Home so we are frequent visitors as it is a short 'wheelchair push' to get here. We visited again today, 1st August 2024 and we received attentive, professional and friendly service from Rebecca and Nicole. The food was first rate, generous portions served hot from the extensive menu. Another enjoyable experience and great value for money.

If you haven’t been for the breakfast you must! It’s been consistently gorgeous. And the beetroot hash! Oh. My. Word. The staff are amazing and you get such a warm welcome. Love it.
