The Woodyard in Derbyshire Dales

A beautiful, atmospheric place with very friendly staff. I had the most delicious meal, and the salmon I ordered was the best I’ve ever tasted. I highly recommend this restaurant! The only downside was that I had pre-ordered a sweet surprise with a candle for my partner’s birthday dessert, but unfortunately, we didn’t receive it. Thank you.

Came for lunch with girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. Such a lovely experience. The food, wine, coffee and surprise chocolate brownie treat were all perfect. Special thanks to the staff for the attentive service we received.

Started okay with quick service but then turned strange. My partner and friend ordered 2 pints of shipyard. When they drank they noticed it wasn’t right straight away (maybe the pipes or needed changing as was on draught). They weren’t going to mention but I called the waiter over as didn’t want them both to nurse two pints they weren’t happy with. We mentioned it to the waiter who then said no problem and they ordered a different larger on draft. All sorted.. except it wasn’t. When we got our bill at the end the waiter said “my manager said you drank some so we’ve charged for half pints on the bill”. We were so shocked and confused (it’s actually almost laughable). The money didn’t really matter but the principle of it and whole attitude was terrible. Why not say no when we asked to swap? He said if we wanted to “argue with the manager we could”. It all seemed very strange. Food was average. Had the turkey sandwich was just plain cold bread un buttered like a build your own sandwich but the weird messages from management over beer that didn’t taste right so us swapping was bizarre and left a negative overall vibe that we won’t be returning. Not quite the level of customer service you’d expect from the management of a restaurant.

We arrived late in Bakewell on a Monday and weren't sure where we could still get served nice food. The Woodyard was a real pleasant surprise. The food was absolutely delicious, served warm and the team was super friendly and on point. Prices are fair. We will definitely come back.

The food was good. The service was ok over all, the waitress we had was in charge of a busy section when we arrived. Starters took a little bit too long to arrive, as we had placed a pre-order, I will admit it was busy at the time we were waiting so understandable. The starters were presented very nicely on the plates and enjoyed by all. The mains seemed a bit "thrown on the plate". The desserts were presented with amazing skill. The really turned the evening and everyone throughly enjoyed them. Overall we all enjoyed the evening and it wasn't overly priced. A bigger selection of beers would be good but from looking at the bar there just isn't the room, which is a shame. Will definitely be back.

Went to The Woodyard today. Hadn't booked but the lovely staff found a table for us. The atmosphere was great, food was absolutely delicious and the staff were fantastic. Thank you for making our day so wonderful 😊.

My Mum and I had driven to Bakewell which is one hour away, specifically to shop at Edinburgh Woollen Mill. We were planning to have a bite to eat at our favourite cafe in the town, only to discover that it has been replaced by another business. Coincidentally, we'd parked close to The Woodyard and enjoyed the aroma of freshly roasted meat as we walked past on our way into town. On our return, we decided to give it a go and were welcomed by a very friendly member of staff who showed us to a table. We both opted for a roast turkey dinner from the festive menu (available throughout December) and enjoyed every mouthful. The meals were piping hot, generously portioned and the gravy was some of the best we've ever tasted. Service was efficient and friendly, without being overbearing and Jodie in particular was delightful. We very much look forward to calling in again next time we visit Bakewell.

Popped in for a bite to eat on market day and had a delicious festive turkey sandwich. Two thick slices of soft brown bloomer bread, loads of turkey and stuffing, fries, salad, cranberry and coleslaw and even gravy if we wanted it. Not cheap at £13 but well worth it. Service was first class, attentive but not intrusive. Highly recommended.

Delicious food and great service! We both had burgers which were delicious with huge portions🍔! The service was brilliant, they were so accommodating and couldn’t do enough for us. And it’s dog friendly too!

We visited on Thursday 12th December, in the evening, it was exceptional. Our Waitress was friendly, smiley, efficient and she checked on on us enough but not too much. The food was brilliant, but it always is. The place was very busy, which made it all the more impressive and the atmosphere had a lovely vibe. We love The Woodyard, Iv been numerous times now and look forward to seeing you again soon. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Xmas lunch experience at The Woodyard Bakewell today .. all the staff were helpful & friendly and the food was excellent. We are both gluten free but it isn’t a problem here! The menu is very clear on allergens and there was lots of choice! The atmosphere in the dining area was pleasantly Xmasy but not over the top. We will be eating here again in 2025 on our next Derbyshire visit. Thx.

We dined here as a group of 7 plus a dog, to celebrate after a marriage at the nearby town hall. Couldn’t fault anything, the staff were so attentive and lovely, and had arranged some glasses of Prosecco on the house to celebrate. The food was fantastic all round, and good sized portions. We had a fab time, thank you so much.

First time booking here. Tried last time we were in bakewell but was fully booked. An exceptional afternoon was had by all of us. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. Nice selection of drinks and a comprehensive menu and specials board to choose from. Both couple's had the sharing nachos which were loaded and very filling. Mains were pie, seabass, pizza and bangers and mash. All meals very well presented and piping hot. A 10/10 from all our party. Thanks to the staff and the kitchen for a great meal and a lovely afternoon. Will definitely be back 😋

Staying in Bakewell for a week of R&R and decided on Sunday lunch at The Woodyard. It did not disappoint,we had a delicious roast beef Sunday lunch, the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were epic as was the service. We will be back this week to try the burgers, which also look epic. Great service and lovely location. Thanks

Had lunch for 4 people on a Tuesday. Quiet at 12:15. Food was okay to average. Pizza was poor, burgers good. Chips very salty. Service a bit patchy. Overall - enjoyable. Had dog friendly area.

Really lovely service, very friendly and attentive staff! Nice, cozy atmosphere. Dinner was mixed - the fish and chips was a generous size but very oily, the sea bass was lovely, and the woodyard burger was good. Coleslaw a bit on the liquidy side! Overall a nice evening.

We came here to celebrate our anniversary and there were 6 of us with 2 vegans and 1 gluten-free and really happy that the Woodyard was able to cater all of our needs. We ordered three mushroom risottos with one vegan & gluten free and we all enjoyed it! The risotto was really tasty and rich, the portion size was generous and very filling. By the way I had the asparagus, spinach and pea risotto (not on the menu anymore) when I visited here for the first time last year and it was amazing too! We also ordered two different burgers (Woodyard classic & pulled pork) and a vegan pizza, they were all delicious! I enjoyed my cheesecake as dessert which was beautifully presented and the ice creams, and vegan chocolate fudge cake were good too. Overall we were really happy with the food they offered. In terms of services, the staff was very attentive and friendly. They took our orders very detailed and double checking to make sure everything was right. One of them help took some group photos of us when spotted that we were taking selfies and struggled to fill 6 people in which was really kind - sometimes these small details can really touch you, especially how British people don’t usually like asking for help 🤣 Overall we really enjoyed our experience in Woodyard and would definitely recommend to anyone who visit Bakewell/Peak District to go!

Reserved a dog-friendly table for a family group... which was a three hour slot (4.45-7:45). Left my email & mobile number at time of booking and confirmed by text the day before... phoned around 5.30 to say we would arrive by 6pm only to be told the table had been given away because we hadn't arrived within 15 mins of start time as per their T&Cs... Very poor. They didn't bother to phone me before releasing the table. Their attitude was complacent, as if they were doing me a favour by reserving a table. The upshot is that we had a lovely meal at the Red Lion instead instead. I can't review their food, but my experience was zero, but 1 star is the minimum.

We booked The Woodyard whilst on our honeymoon and we were not disappointed. They had decorated the table and had a glass of Prosecco ready for us. The food was amazing (definitely recommend the TBone on the specials) and they couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely go back. 10/10. Thank you for making our evening so special.

The restaurant is warm and welcoming with a great friendly atmosphere. Lots of choice on the menu both for food and drinks. Our second visit of the week and the food hasn't disappointed. Our server Nikita was great; friendly and nothing was too much trouble. So good we are there again tomorrow.

My husband and I visited Bakewell for our anniversary and we were so glad we came across the Woodyard. We were met with a warm welcome by the lovely and friendly staff. The menu options and specials were plentiful and we were checking out all the delicious plates coming past us. We opted for a garlic & mozzarella flatbread to start and then fish and chips and the beef & kidney stew (special) - it was all absolutely delicious. We couldn’t have asked for better and was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. We hope to return again and sample more of the wonderful menu. Thanks again, we loved it!

Really nice place from the outside and in.tastefully decorated with a relaxing atmosphere with chilled music playing in the background.the staff are very friendly and polite.the menu is good with some great choices.we ordered pizza 🍕 with chips and it was very tasty. Definitely recommend 👌

Very disappointed with the food. I had a pulled pork pannini, the chips were very oily and not crispy at all, the bread was stale

I had a pulled pork pizza- Base was flat and onions were raw. Probably one the worst pizzas I’ve had out that wasn’t a take out. For £16 that was miles below acceptable.

Another Great Pub in the Area of the Peak District . Went 3 times for a meal . I had to book 2 times and was lucky the 1st time . It's a popular place in Bakewell . It's also Dog friendly . The staff were very welcoming and friendly . The Chef was very good . The meals we had were excellent . Recommend this location if your in Bakewell

On holiday in Bakewell for a week and visited The Woodyard for dinner twice - what a fabulous find! The second visit was even better than the first with very attentive, friendly service and great food. It has got to be one of the best restaurants in Bakewell and well worth a visit. We loved it!

Superb food. Honestly the best fish and chips I've ever had. Staff really nice, and the views are good too.

I’m not one to write bad reviews but I felt compelled. I have heard very mixed reviews about this place, thought we’d give it a go as we are fairly local and I would not recommend. Rude staff, saw female bartender vaping on numerous occasions behind bar. Food was ok but over priced and staff were rude from start to finish, not once were we asked if the wood was ok.

Nicely decorated and food good. This was our second visit and fish and chips just as good as first time. Staff are friendly but not really tuned in to customer service. For example… Was offered water when we sat down but when it didn’t arrive had to ask three times for it! A bit disappointing because if they sort the service it would have been five stars.

The old mill is very well conserved and suitably furnished, the atmosphere is very pleasant. The food is excellent and so is the drinks selection. The staff is also very kind and efficient

This was our first to The Woodyard and one we enjoyed very much indeed. A great ‘feel’ to the place, an interesting and varied menu - we both had the hake, which was excellent - and excellent service (thanks to Katie). A return visit to Bakewell will definitely see us back at The Woodyard!

Well what can we say about The woodyard? Upon arrival greeted by lovely staff ,blonde lady in charge smiling and so well mannered! Food was simply the best! We honestly felt it was Michelin star it was that good!!!Can 100% say this must be the best place to eat in Bakewell by far!!! 10/10 on all levels!!! Thankyou so much guys! Be be back for sure!!!!

We were very lucky to get a table without a reservation. It was recommended by a lovely gentleman asking for directions to the Woodyard yesterday- so decided to try it ourselves. The staff were all lovely & friendly & had smiles on their faces which makes a dining experience all the better. Lovely atmosphere. Absolutely spot on pina colada. And the food was delicious . I had the mushroom risotto- yummy. Katie, who served us was so nice & made sure everything was right for us. I highly recommend here

We came here three times in four days - a revelation to find a restaurant with such amazing (and extensive) vegan and gluten free options alongside a 'normal' menu, and all of it delicious! The staff were all helpful and friendly, and the extensive cocktail and mocktail menus were also excellent and much appreciated. Would really recommend for a lovely meal (and/or drink) in Bakewell - particular shout out to the vegan mushroom pasta, salmon main, and espresso martini! Would love to see a couple of vegan options on the dessert menu every night, but with such good cocktails and mocktails I didn't really feel like I was missing out.

Beautiful old building nect to the river. A glass floor nxt to the bar is a great feature so you can view the old underground arches and stream. Lovely atmosphere inside with very attentive an pointe staff. Food was lovely and very generous portions. Very clean. Reasonably priced

We booked Sunday lunch, arrived and waited over 1hr, for the food to arrive, no apology had to chase our orders. When food finally arrived it was very nice. Disappointed as I recommended this to a group of 8 people and felt the Woodyard should stop taking walk ins and proritse people who have booked.

I went here for dinner last night and I’m very glad I found this restaurant. The food we all had was exceptionally good. The portion sizes are reasonable, the food quality is very good and delicious, the staff were also very attentive. For the price you can’t really go wrong with The Woodyard, that is if you can get a table!

Wow. What a fantastic place. My wife had found this place to come to for a drink while on our short break in Bakewell. And what a find it is. We actually came 5 times in the 48 hours we were in Bakewell. Both our nights evening meals we had there. Huge compliments to all your staff, but with extra special thanks to Katie B, Tim and the Blonde restaurant supervisor with the glasses and jewelled chain. ( sorry didn't get her name). Their professional manner and attention to detail were great. We were welcomed like old friends and were genuinely sad to leave to go home. Well done team Woodyard. We will definitely be back in the future and will highly recommend you to our friends and colleagues.

Visited the woodyard this lunch time. A regular here as its always good. I had mushroom risotto which was gorgeous and a gingerbread latte which is one of my favourites. I did try a non alcoholic raspberry mohito which sadly I found way too bitter. After remaking it I still could not drink it as too bitter and without a blink they took it off my bill which was very kind. All the staff were friendly helpful and welcoming. Will be back soon no doubt.

Visited on Saturday 13th July, I had booked the woodyard for our wedding anniversary. We had such a lovely time. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, our food was excellent. Well worth the journey and would definitely recommend.

Visited here recently as part of a large family group. Two of us had the kofta sharing platter, which was rather mean for the price (and the houmous had an odd flavour - it was missing something). The spicy meat pizza was pleasant enough, but the vegetable pizza was quite dull and tasteless. Another in our group said the steak was chewy. Overall, the food was disappointing and overpiced for what it was. The waitresses did a very good job though, considering the size of our group.

Overall, good food and a good service 👌🏼 I tucked in the BBQ Pulled Pork burger and the girlfriend had the buttermilk chicken. She asked to replace the coleslaw with mushrooms which the kitchen were happy to do.

Dog friendly, child friendly, gluten free options- it's a bit hard to tick all these boxes usually but The Woodyard manages it! There's a completely separate gluten free menu available on the website which I recommend looking at ahead of your visit so you have an idea of what you might like. I personally opted for the beef and bacon burger gluten free (on the image this has a seeded bun), which came with gluten free onion rings and fries. It tasted absolutely amazing- decent meat and well cooked food. It's not fast food- it did take around 25-30 minutes for the food but it was worth the wait! If you want fast food- head to McDonald's! This is decent cooked food with great service and a lovely atmosphere. Our dog is a nervous doggo and the staff sat us in the dog area where he stayed under our table and they were attentive to asking how they could support by making sure there were no sudden movements near him, which honestly is just so considerate, we didn't expect that! For reference, my husband ordered the pulled pork burger which isn't gluten free (but there is a gluten free option for this!) so you can compare how similar the dishes are. There is also a choice of dessert if you're not stuffed- we managed to make space for Eton Mess which was the gluten free choice or all the ice creams are also gluten free if that's what you fancy! My husband opted for the profiterole tart. We were a bit defeated by it! Portion sizes are generous and we're definitely enough for us. Absolutely well worth a visit, plenty of veggie options also on the menu. Would recommend booking before your visit especially if you want a table around the midday rush.

Tried to dine here tonight but apparently it's too difficult to serve food in the garden area even though it's a dry sunny day, so we've found a more friendly place to eat.

We started with drinks in the garden before dining inside. The service was excellent and friendly. They offered to take photos of our group, without us even asking, which was kind. The food was great. I highly recommend the Seabass and the mushroom risotto. A few of our group had bugers, which they said were lovely. Great location on the river 👌

Very nice meal for my mom, sister and me. Also the two dogs who had sausages. My sister and I had the delicious hallumi and pepper panini with salad and chips, mom had the Spanish quiche and salad. It was really delicious and served quickly on a lovely trip to Bakewell
