We had a lovely meal here in the village. We had a bread and olive starter, with a pizza and some prawn linguine. The food was good, and the place has a lovely atmosphere. We tried it as the only bad reviews are people not getting a table when it suits them. Book via social media and you get a table no problem. We will be back, that is for sure!

It seems it's not just holiday makers who get turned away. We live in the village and would have used it regularly if there had been a proper welcome. Friday night at 6.30pm and the place was mostly empty and yet we were told it was fully booked. Only 2 of us and all we wanted was a drink and maybe a pizza or snack so we would have been there less than an hour. Under previous management the welcome was always excellent as was the food and service. The dishes we did see looked OK but nowhere near as good as before. A real shame but there are plenty of nice places that will make us welcome. Unless things change here I can only see this place going out of business.

Disappointed to be turned away as only 2 staff members working.1 chef and 1 server. Looked a great place but won't last long if no staff and lost about 20 heads (other folk turned away same night). Holiday makers are obviously not welcome. Locals only that had booked.

Closed for a private party with no announcements on Facebook... which is the only place you can book.

Another excellent meal tonight. Superb food with ‘small’ plates which are definitely not small! Superb choice of beer & wine. Fantastic value for money. thank you Faye & chef. Nothing is ever too much trouble and your service is second to none!

A lovely place to eat with high quality, fresh food. A great selection of gins, would like to see more variety on the menu.

We had meat feast pizzas and Parmesan fries which were amazing. Usually when we go away for the weekend we book food in advance so we know we’re sorted but with it being November we didn’t this time. For some reason there is no telephone number and you can’t book online?? We walked over from the pub across the road to see if we could get a table , we had to wait about an hour. Speaking to staff they’ve been open since Easter and I’m sure the village gets very busy in summer. Surely we should be able to reserve a table in advance? Then at least the staff have a rough idea on how many people will be through the door.

Fantastic warm welcome. Excellent pint of Black Sheep Snowflake sat with dog by a warming Woodburn. Food is first class here too. Highly recommended. Staff very courteous especially shift manager Millie.

A few years since our last visit, glad to be back. Fabulous hosts, great food and a lovely traditional feel. Location is perfect for visiting Castle Howard, Helmsley and all the local places of interest.

Second visit and very disappointed after first visit was served cold soup thought give it another chance but no more, some staff polite but to many who are not, tall young lad very helpful and friendly didn't get his name Stroganoff was lacking flavour and very runny and £4 for a handful of thin chips which were meant to be thick cut chips don't mind paying top price if quality is good on a positive my partner had pork stuffing ciabata which was ok , Unfortunately these places get to big and loose the personal touches a few words and a smile go a long way.
