Three Church Road at St George's Place in Birmingham

It's been a long time since I did my last review, but I had to break the pattern because the experience in this restaurant was quite amazing - specially because of the outstanding service provided by Sónia(?). She was very thoughtful and caring the whole time, and it instantly made us feel at home. The food is also quite nice and the restaurant is located in a very charming neighbourhood; couldn't recommend more. If there's anything bad to say, I would say that the person at the reception could be more welcoming, but I guess the rest of the crew compensated her lack of sympathy.

Voy a escribir 2 opiniones 1 bueno y 1 malo. Este es solo para Vini o Vinicuis. Así que reservamos esta tarde como 3 meses antes ya que era una reserva grande. Vini era encantador cuando en el teléfono diciendo que podemos tener TODO el restaurante como el comedor privado sería demasiado pequeño para nosotros, etc, así que estábamos pensando que esto va a ser bueno! Le expliqué al reservar que queremos hacer una fiesta de pintura primero y luego el té de la tarde que estaba todo sí sí sí, eso es genial. Así que la razón por la que reservamos fue porque nos permitieron hacer la fiesta de pintura. También queríamos reservar hasta las 6 pm dijo que está bien, pero tendríamos que pagar un extra de £ 100, ya que estábamos teniendo TODO el restaurante. Estábamos contentos con esto. Mencionó que estarán en contacto 1 semana antes de la reserva para obtener el depósito y anotar cualquier requisito de alimentos. No llamaron ni enviaron correos electrónicos, esperó 3 días antes de EXIGIR DINERO por Watsapp, amenazando con decir que la reserva se cancelará si no hacemos el pago AHORA. Teníamos que hacer algunos cambios, ya que entonces esperábamos más gente, así que Vini dijo que podemos tener el comedor privado también, con el costo adicional por cabeza y por el tiempo extra, que estaba totalmente bien. ¡Entonces llegó el día! Vine temprano para echar un vistazo y poner algunos globos. TODO el restaurante del que hablaba eran 2 mesas largas que sentaban a 9 personas en cada mesa. El aparcamiento es una broma absoluta. Señora asiática en recepción es horrible y grosero, ella parece que está oliendo a caca 24 / 7 con sus expresiones faciales y labios falsos. ¡Al preguntar dónde podemos aparcar estaba como al final del camino! Vini mencionó que solo tenemos el lugar hasta las 5 pm, ya que necesitan mover los muebles, ya que van a cambiar las alfombras mañana. (No veo cómo esto es nuestro problema, 1 no nos vamos a quedar la noche son unas pocas horas y 2 reservamos hasta las 6 pm y pagamos extra por esto) Como mencioné anteriormente antes de que íbamos a hacer una fiesta de pintura, el anfitrión de la pintura llegó y Vini dijo 'No no puedes pintar aquí'. Reservamos esto porque dijo que podíamos! estábamos tan sorprendidos, dijo que nuestros manteles y alfombra se arruinarán. Dije 'cuando reservé dije: ¿quieres que traigamos nuestra propia ropa de mesa debido a la pintura y dijiste que no, no te preocupes, tenemos la nuestra!' y si la alfombra se está cambiando, no importa si tiene un poco de pintura, seguramente? Así que accedió a dejarnos pintar sin la ropa de mesa, luego mientras empacaba el diseño del té de la tarde estaba soplando y soplando (muy grosero y no profesional). Esta fue una fiesta sorpresa para mi hermana, nuestros invitados llegaron y querían bebidas, dijo que NO todos tienen que sentarse a beber. Así que hice que todo el mundo se sentara para que puedan tomar una copa, entonces dijo que NO no podemos dar bebidas donde están las cosas de pintura! Convertir cualquier cosa en un problema desde este punto. Mi hermana se retrasó un poco debido a las condiciones climáticas que causaron mucho tráfico (viajaban desde Londres). Él nos seguía apresurando diciendo apúrate, tienes que empezar, tenemos que servir comida, etc, etc. ¡Le explicamos que no podíamos empezar sin la cumpleañera! ¡No le importaba! Estuvo gimiendo todo el tiempo que estuvimos allí, inhalando y soplando, apurándonos con la pintura, luego nos apresuró con la comida. La comida era horrible por cierto! Finalmente al final de esto cortamos el pastel. Le pregunté a una de las chicas si podían cortar el pastel pero Vini dijo que NO. No soporto a las personas que están como SI SI SI entonces el día que todo fue un NO NO NO NO. Absolutamente ridículo. Él es un miembro VIL de su establecimiento y necesita aprender modales básicos.

Tuve una gran experiencia para el té de la tarde para una gran celebración aquí. El personal (Vinni, Sonia y Roisin creo) fue muy servicial desde la reserva, confirmando los requisitos dietéticos y la preparación para el ambiente perfecto en el día. Muy disfrutado por todos

Recientemente fui a Three Church Road con mi mamá para tomar el té de la tarde que reservé en línea. En ninguna parte de la descripción del restaurante de arriba menciona el restaurante, por agradable que sea, está dentro del pueblo de retiro. Hay un pequeño cartel afuera, pero se entra por la entrada de la casa de retiro. El té de la tarde en sí no era con el dinero, solo unos sándwiches todo en pan blanco. Por unas libras extra puedes obtener mucho más por tu dinero si te aventuras un poco más en el centro de Birmingham. . . Incluso nos dijeron que nos fuéramos a las 5. ¡30 pm ya que los residentes estarían en hora feliz!

This place is absolutely amazing. Five of us went to celebrate my 50th birthday. The food was exquisite of a very high quality. Our servers were attentive. Our every need was met. We were not rushed, and my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon and we will definitely be back.

Excellent afternoon tea, struggled to eat it all!

Just had afternoon tea - disappointing ! For £23.95 the standard was that of a supermarket cafe. The scones were hard and stale! Nice staff and venue but very poor value for money. The whole thing was ‘ done on the cheap’

Granddaughter’s bridal tea party.

La terraza es preciosa, así como el personal y el servicio. Sin embargo mi cóctel de langostinos y aguacate era muy pequeño. ¡Probablemente 10 gambas pequeñas, solo un cuarto de aguacate y una pequeña hoja de lechuga! ¡Muy mal valor! El jamón Hub y tostadas de queso era muy bueno - jamón sabroso y queso fuerte.

Beautiful little restaurant hidden away inside a hotel with intriguing secrets like an "owners' library" you can't enter 🤣 The food is exquisite and the price is perfect. £75 for three courses and drinks for two people. Totally recommended.

Visitado un sábado por la tarde como un grupo de 8. El té de la tarde estaba llegando tarde a pesar de que reservamos con antelación. Nos dijeron desde el principio que están muy ocupados y si necesitamos algo deberíamos ir al bar si no están por aquí. ¡Pidió una botella de vino que la camarera vertió en 3 vasos toda la botella! No hay oportunidad de probar, sólo lo vertí todo. Pobre. Terminó siendo cálido, pero nos dijeron que las neveras están a la temperatura correcta. Nunca he conocido un vino blanco servido a esa temperatura. En cualquier caso se lo llevaron y dijeron que estaban haciendo otra botella más fría que no llegó en siglos. Cuando finalmente recibimos nuestros AT tuvimos que ir al bar a pedir el vino. Cuando eso también llegó finalmente estaba claro que lo habían ahogado en agua para que se enfriara, ya que la botella y la etiqueta estaban empapadas. Otra vez pobre. El té de la tarde en sí era muy agradable. Pan un poco grueso para mí personalmente, pero los postres y bollos eran increíbles y generalmente no soy una persona dulce. Pero tuve que pedir más tés y cafés varias veces y tuve que esperar. No me malinterpretes el personal es educado y parecen gente agradable, pero si era un problema de personal o lo que sea tal vez sobrereservado ese día, pero nuestra experiencia se arruinó por no tener un servicio atento por desgracia, además de la situación del vino que realmente no debería suceder en ningún lugar y mucho menos un lugar como este. No lo recomendaría porque el entorno es encantador y también lo es el té de la tarde, pero si no puedes manejar el número de clientes no creo que debas tomar reservas porque afecta al servicio. Y si tienes poco personal, hay una mejor manera de explicarlo que decirle a los clientes que necesitan venir y preguntar si quieren algo solo porque estás ocupado. Desafortunadamente no volveremos a pesar de que todavía anhelo esos bollos.

Visited for afternoon tea today. Mixed feeling about the whole event. Polite staff and well mannered. Sandwiches 🥪 were starved of filing in thick cut stile dry white bread. With edges. Training needed ?? In serving sandwiches in posh polite place. Place where You eat and leave with no return..except for residents. Will not recommend. 😒

Highly recommend this lovely restaurant. Had the afternoon tea for a party of 5. The staff from the moment we walked in the door were impeccable, the ambience was lovely very relaxed. Afternoon tea food was 5 stars and plenty of it. Whole experience from start to finish was excellent, will definitely be returning.

Fabulous from start to finish. I had read about the parking and was prepared to find a nearby car park after dropping mom (not literally) but a staff member found us a spot! We were welcomed and offered a lovely table, coffee & hot chocolate immediately. I mentioned it was Mom’s fourth 22nd birthday and the team went the extra mile & brought out a beautifully decorated ‘birthday’ plate & found a candle! Afternoon Tea was sumptuous! Fluffy bread, ample fillings & gorgeous selection of cakes & warm scones! We will definitely be back - the staff were fabulous. Thank you chef!

Fabulous Afternoon Tea to celebrate my mom’s 88th birthday. I’d read the reviews about parking so phoned ahead and was prepared to park in nearby car park, but staff saw me and ushered me to a parking spot. I’d probably book a taxi next time. We did have to phone as no one was on reception but once in staff were welcoming, friendly, attentive & fun. I mentioned it was mom’s 4th 22nd birthday and the team brought two mini choc brownies with a candle & ‘Happy Birthday’ written on the plate! Sandwiches were lovely, beautifully presented cakes & warm scones! The room was quiet & very relaxed ambience. Will definitely look out for future events & would highly recommend.

An excellent 85th birthday with the bonus of a private room The food was excellent and the staff very professional which obviously shows they are enjoying their jobs. Unfortunately they were already fully booked for Mothers Day so we were unable to return immediately.

We booked a table at 3 Church Road for a 85th birthday celebration for my husband. We were lucky to have a room on our own as the booking was for 8 people. Everything was beautifully cooked and the staff obviously enjoy their jobs shown by the excellent way in which our meal was served. Nothing was too much trouble and everything served as we had requested. We wanted to return for Mother's Day but unfortunately this date was already fully booked.

Like a gem, a delightful, warm, welcoming restaurant with a menu to top most 5 star restaurants. Couldn't fault our time at Three Church Lane and our waiter Kody was impeccable to match our experience.

Festive Christmas lunch, absolutely disgusting, old ,dry reheated frozen food, unable to eat, billed £28.50 for a baby food Brie tart and 3 pieces of cheese and 4 random biscuits. Avoid

This looked good so I booked it for a pre Christmas afternoon tea. The building is very grand and it’s been very tastefully decorated inside too, so it sets the feeling before you even eat a bite. The staff were professional but warm and described everything on the afternoon tea stand. Fresh sandwiches and scones, we did ask for more cream and it wasn’t a problem. This was a really good spread, just enough to feel nicely full. Atmosphere ten out of ten. So glad to have found somewhere to bring friends and family for a specialty tea.

What a hidden gem, what excellent attentive service we received celebrating our parents 60th wedding anniversary. We had Festive Afternoon tea and were looked after by Sonia and her colleague. The selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones was more than the four of us could collectively eat. Thank you for making this milestone occasion so memorable. We left on a real high 💕

Could not fault ANYTHING! Great food, great staff, great price! We had a private room due to the amount of family that came and the opulence in the room made it so special for my mum. The staff were so helpful throughout the whole experience and the afternoon tea was just perfect. Would 100% go back.

We went for afternoon tea here. Loved the tea, food was lovely and tea/coffee had refills included. Parking situation was awful. There was no spaces at the front and we had to go to reception, before parking at a barrier operated parking at the back of the premises. It was just a confusing situation. We would recommend the afternoon tea here but the parking should improve 🙂

Really nice decor. Came here for lunch one day and was a bit stumped on what to choose and the lovely serving staff named Billy recommended the chicken supreme. Well I’m glad he did as it was absolutely delicious!!! Will definitely be returning to try out the other scrumptious sounding dishes they have on the menu. Outstanding service by all.

Nice food and good atmosphere but service is very slow

I brought my friend here for a birthday treat for afternoon tea, after reading the reviews. The venue was lovely, but the afternoon tea was poor. The quality of the food lacklustre and was disappointing, the small scones, cakes and the sad sandwiches just made the occasion very flat. The only consolidation was that the weather was glorious and we were able to sit outside with the view of the gardens. I should have realised earlier seeing that there was no one in the restaurant at the time.

Beautiful venue, set within a retirement village (so a bit confusing when a taxi pulls up to the doors). The Three Church Road restaurant is a bit hard to access - there are main doors with a sign saying the entrance is to the left, and you walk through what I think is the reception to the retirement home? It’s not very clear but we were able to find it without too much hassle. The restaurant/bar is very beautifully designed, with lots of different rooms and areas to keep it feeling intimate and private, rather than everyone packed in one big room. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and made it a lovely occasion. We’d come for the afternoon tea, which seems to be good value at £19.95 but was rather disappointing - largely due to the pretty boring sandwich flavours (tuna, ham & mustard, cheddar & chutney, and chicken tandoori) and the fillings were absolutely tiny - I don’t think I tasted any tuna. The staff were great in tailoring the food to dietary requirements, for vegans, gluten free, and generally fussy people who just wanted an entire plate of ham sandwiches! It was just sad they’d not opted for things such as smoked salmon and cream cheese, egg and cress, and cucumber sandwiches. And the finger sandwiches came heaped in butter - a white margarine spreadable type thing. Sad. There were scones with individual pots of cream and jam, and a range of cakes though I found these to be quite dry. Particularly with the sandwiches there felt like a lot of cost-cutting had been going on, and you could barely taste any of the fillings. You can pay £5 extra to enjoy Champagne with your afternoon tea, or gin & tonics. Despite my disappointment with the food, it looked beautiful and was a lovely thing to do with friends, and we were very well looked after by the staff.

Very disappointing. No satisfactory vegan options provided. Cold, dry food eaten in a company of flowers in mouldy water. Charged a normal price for a portion without meat or dairy but no substitutions. Would not recommend.

I drive here from Wolverhampton about every couple of months, and I have been doing it for about 4 years. I have always had a pleasant experience with exceptional food and really friendly staff. It has a really nice atmosphere too. Would give this place a 10/10 and can't say enough how much I would recommend this place 😊

Fantastic afternoon tea ,nice fresh food very well presented. The building is in excellent condition and kept at a nice temperature (lots of snow outside).Parking is a challenge as there are very few spaces. The staff are attentive and look very smart, the star was Sonia who looked after us nothing was too much trouble the world needs more people like Sonia ...... would we go again or recommend the afternoon tea ? definitely .... visited Friday 10th March 2023

Found three church road while looking for the best afternoon tea in Birmingham and I wasn't disappointed. Welcoming and professional staff, quirky but calm decor with comfortable seating The sandwiches and cakes were delicious with accommodations for vegetarians. Definitely recommend 10/10

Gorgeous experience for lunch and afternoon tea

This was our first visit to the three church restaurant and we were not disappointed the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was tasty. They even surprised me with a little birthday treat :*) thank you so much for a delightful evening.

The food wansnt bad but the servers were all confused and the food just took too long to come out. Thought they would be a bit more organised on Christmas day. The main was also small and I don't think it justified the price, wouldn't go again. However it's a nice building

I really love the food, all the courses were well timed and wonderfully cooked. The private dining rooms are elegant and clean. The staff were helpful and provided excellent service.

One of the best high tea experiences I have ever had in a long time. Amazing food and great staff. All the staff is so friendly, especially vinni. A must place for all the tea lover, great ambience , can do a bit better with food option but what all was there was just simply tasty.

Visited with a friend for afternoon tea. The positives: beautiful building, clean, lovely decor. Afternoon teas in my opinion are always much of a muchness. This was no exception. The negatives: it is in an oap residential home, not an issue but i think it should be made clear, as some residents didn't look impressed at our presence! The service was slow and we almost felt an inconvenience. No offers of re filling drinks. The main issue was the fact that one of us was gluten free, and when the afternoon tea presented to us, the plates were all mixed up!! some gluten free put on the wrong platter. How worrying if you are celiac!! Wouldnt hurry back. Shame as has the potential to be lovely.

Afternoon tea Food lovely, ambiance questionable (where we were placed) Staff very nice but didn’t appreciate a sales lady coming into the room we were in & discussing sales with 3 people who were buying. I believe this sort of selling should take place in an office environment.

Would love to keep this place a secret but this is an Absolutely Gem of a place. I went for a treat for my sisters birthday for an Afternoon Tea and I'm so glad I booked here. It was Amazing, the Afternoon Tea was excellent I've never had one before. The staff where really helpful and friendly and made us feel welcomed, the decor was beautiful and sitting out on the patio on a lovely sunny day was perfection. Definitely would recommend give this hidden gem a try. And be respectful of the Residents, as this is part of their home. A 10/10 from me.

Had an Afternoon Tea with my wife. Staff seemed very busy with other things, often rushing around the restaurant area and detracting from the ambience. The food was variable - the tart and posset were excellent, but the cakes were not very good. The sandwiches were good but lacked imagination. Our second visit and not as enjoyable as previously.

Took the family for afternoon tea. It's not normally my thing but I couldn't fault this. Delicious cakes and sandwiches, great service, and lovely settings to relax and enjoy it all in. Definitely recommend this if you're looking to treat someone special. Definitely the best afternoon tea we've had, and that includes a famous one we had in London at 5 times the price.

Three Church Road is not as it seems. It is an absolutely stunning building and myself and 2 friends were looking forward to a relaxing afternoon tea. On arrival we were greeted by an elderly gentleman at the door and when we were seated we were surrounded by tables with elderly ladies and gentlemen. When I went to the toilets they were spotless but had emergency pull cords. We were having the slow realisation that this was not your usual restaurant. After speaking to our waitress it turns out that the building is part of a retirement village and that all the elderly diners actually lived there. Had we known this it wouldn’t have been an issue but as there is no mention of this being part of a retirement village anywhere on the website or on the reviews it came as a shock as felt we had been slightly duped. Just wanted to make people aware.

Lovely setting on the terrace in the sun. Parking is very limited but the receptionist was good enough to find us a space. Service was friendly but absent after food was delivered. We would have liked a second pot of tea but didn’t see waiters again. The scones were small (2 each) and under cooked as was the Victoria sponge. Sandwiches were average. We have had better teas for less so overall disappointed.

Visited on Saturday afternoon and I have to say it was below expectations. The place itself was beautiful really lovely decor and had a nice feel to it but we were really disappointed with the afternoon tea. When we arrived we were pointed in the direction of our table and asked if we wanted tea or coffee whilst we were standing up near the bar so we had no idea if there were any different options available until I asked... preferring a herbal tea I was told this was possible. When we sat down about 5 minutes later the food arrived and it was just dumped on the table so there was no explanation as to what things were and there were a couple of items we just didn't know what we were eating. There didn't seem many sandwiches at all and one of the sandwiches we had absolutely no idea what the filling was even after taking a bite so we left it. A few of the cakes were stale and the scones in particular were stale which was very disappointing. We had refills of tea and that was when we finally got to see a menu so then we saw what the sandwiches and cakes were that we had already mostly eaten. All of the staff were really pleasant and friendly but there just wasn't that attentiveness that we were expecting considering this was rated second in Birmingham for afternoon tea. One staff member also had a horrendous cough and didn't seem to be putting their hand to their mouth and considering we are coming out of a pandemic it was a little concerning.

I am very surprised at some of the reviews here. We had our wedding reception at 3 Church Road a week ago. It was wonderful. The food was fabulous, everything was delivered that we asked for, the room was beautifully prepared and laid out, the staff were amazing and very attentive and looked after all of our guests very well. We were a party of 18, so a small group but not a single detail was missed out. Thank you Kesaven and team, a day to remember! We will be back for dinner again soon.

I loved the place .. how cozy and lovable it was.. most important, people and staff working there.. they are so kind and so helpful.. they cared so much with every tiny details .. it wont be the last time indeed 😍😍😍

I booked the private dining room for my husband's 40th birthday. From the moment I contacted the venue, Kesaven and the team were accomodating and extremely responsive. On the day, all the staff were extremely friendly and keen to deliver great customer service. The room was beautiful and the food was incredible. We had selected a 3 course menu with amuse bouche, which I would highly recommend! Overall a great venue, fantastic staff and amazing food, thank you for a lovely evening.

Attended for a baby shower, rented a private room which was nicely decorated. Large table and room to accommodate 14 people. Staff checked on us regular. Set menu for £30 - carrot soup - didn't enjoy, salmon main was good, and crème brulé was ok. I wouldn't go back for the food, but the private room was a great deal.

I have just had dinner here with a friend. I can get Categorically say probably the most enjoyable evening at a restaurant I have ever had. Below are four photographs of the meals we had, corn fed chicken, spiced sweet potatoes, wild mushrooms, smoked bacon. £15.95. For dessert I had spiced Bramley apple crumble, caramelised apple, vanilla custard. £6.50. It was magnificent. My friend had the pappardelle, bechamel sauce, smoked salmon, capers and dill, the salmon melted in your mouth. For dessert, she had a cinnamon creme Brule, spiced shortbread, fresh strawberries, £6.50. The crème brûle was stunning. The most wonderful ambience, in a relaxing environment one can only usually dream about. Very friendly staff who offer a service 2nd to none. This review is not sponsored, it is genuine. Parking at front of building in spots marked for 3. You can enter via the reception entrance, use intercom and mention you would like to visit the restaurant. Very confusing all parking out front of restaurant reserved for the care home it is attached to and the exit is not the grand door shown in pictures but through the care home. We had to park in residents care park in numbered spaces for there cars. Before stepping through the door the parking had reduced us wanting to return. Went here for afternoon tea on a Saturday afternoon. It was very nice, sandwiches not stale at all and a good selection of scones and cakes too. Other reviews are not accurate saying it's in a care home, it's just next to a retirement village but this has no influence on the clientele, decor or food. Very pleasant, nice food and surroundings, would recommend.

Unfortunately we did not have the best experience whilst having afternoon tea at three church road. When we arrived the member of staff at the bar was not friendly. (Receptionist was welcoming) Before we arrived I asked for a surprised birthday theme and I made sure I confirmed this twice over the phone and both times when I phoned I was told that they had our notes and this would be executed with a birthday cake and a special cocktail. However when we arrived they said no we don't do themes however the website states they do. They did not seem to have our booking as they wanted me to repeat everything again. I had also left a note to advise no fish and no fruit scones; again no one had listened as they brought out salmon sandwiches and fruit scones. The service was extremely slow although it was not busy. Whenever we asked for something it would take about 30 minutes to arrive. I had checked the reviews before I arrived and booked this as I was pleased with the comments. However I was displeased with the level of service provided on the day and would not reccomend this to anyone. I have had afternoon tea at mailbox before and that was really nice! Great value for money, they push the boat out for personal touches such as birthdays.

Pleasent surroundings and good coffee

We had heard about a hidden gem of a restaurant and thought we’d try it out ourselves and I am so glad we did. The food looked and tasted amazing and the guy that served us made us feel super special. Can’t wait to go back again.
