The food at this restaurant is good, and the lady running it is friendly. However, the service was extremely slow. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty when we arrived, it took over 40 minutes to receive our breakfast. With only one staff member handling everything—both serving and cooking—it's clear that the place is severely understaffed. While the food is nice, be prepared for a long wait, and don't plan on being anywhere soon after your visit.

Lovely cafe with good prices and nice stock, the lady who runs it is lovely to chat to and let us take our dog in too! Service can be slow sometimes even unusually when you are the only person there, but other than that this cafe is top notch and I don’t go anywhere else in town.

Having visited the museum opposite we wanted somewhere for e light bite. Thyme Out provided such a place. A simple menu (see photos) provided us with what we were looking for. The layout inside is cosy and comfortable. The food was tasty, hot and very edible. The lady (granny) who was there the day we went (and I think may be the owner) was friendly, polite and provided an excellent service

Having visited the museum opposite we were looking for a light meal. Thyme Out Café provided just the place and it turned out to be a little treasure. Even without the daily specials the menu (see photo) offered us plenty of light bite food to choose from. The food was hot, tasty and flavoursome. The standard breakfast was more than ample. We had a large pot of tea that more than provided for the two of us. The lady (a lovely granny) running the place on the day (Who I think was the owner) was a congenial host who made us feel at home.. We were not pressured in any way. If you have been to the museum or a matinee at the theatre this quaint little café is an ideal refuelling stop. .

This is a homely, well-priced, generous portion, friendly cafe opposite the Palace Theatre and the Civil War museum in Newark upon Trent. It is a few minutes walk from the Georgian Town Centre, with its' rich Civil War history, and about 5 minutes away from the (free) Newark Castle.

Coffee that had bits floating in it, no toilet! And just not pleasant at all. I thought you were not allowed to have an eatery without hot water and toilet facilities. It really was bad. I was stood at the counter five minutes whilst a gentleman read his paper in the back room.

We always telephone and book an early (5.45pm) meal at Thyme Out before attending an evening event at The Palace Theatre. The fact that it is so convenient for the safe car park and just across the road from the venue merely a bonus - it's the delicious, fresh food and friendly relaxed service that keeps us coming back. Take last night, as always, it was difficult to choose which dish to have - a home-made soup (tomato and basil), creamed garlic mushrooms and melba toast or smoked salmon and prawn parcels with brown bread and butter? Main courses on the menu - beef bourguignon, slow-cooked lamb shank, a chicken breast dish or a fillet of salmon dish. Plus a generous dish of bright, steaming hot, fresh vegetables. Dessert choice was sticky toffee pudding, a lemon tart or poached plums and meringue in port sauce - custard or cream. Three courses for £20. Simply exceptional value. We take our own wine although they have a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks and great coffee. We cannot recommend Thyme Out enough and can't wait for next Saturday evening! Thank you, Sue.

Very nice food I couldn’t faultier at all But I didn’t like the coffee it tasted like it was made with dried milk . I’ve got to say I’ve be sitting here for a while with no interaction from any staff at all ,I wasn’t asked if the food was ok or if I wanted anything else . Glad I paid before hand as I could of just walked out without paying as there’s no staff around very strange indeed

Lovely friendly staff,. Small cafe, good choice of food, and at reasonable prices. Just off the market Square. I didn't see toilet's. But I'm sure if you ask they will oblige. I use Thyme Out on a regular basis and would recommend you give it a try.

This is across the road from the theatre and Museum. The food is good and the egg mayonnaise sandwich I had was made from scratch, which was nice. Don't expect the fastest service but it is really good for the price you are charged, a good place in Newark compared to the more chi chi places in the area

Three times I have gone to this place as I've heard good feedback from it but I've gone on there website to check there opening times and drove there only to find them closed, and had said they opened at 9,it was last week I was waiting at the door with two others, we waited 10 mins and decided to go find somewhere else, on passing on the way back I found it open so I popped my head round the door to ask what time they decided to open and a lady replied, Oh about 9.30, no reason why not

If you are going to Newark Palace Theatre for the evening Thyme Out is an ideal place for an early evening meal. Freshly cooked food, from a variable menu, served with a smile. Take your own wine if you wish (no corkage charge). Directly opposite the theatre so very handy. Also opens during the day for meals and light refreshments.

We were going to see a show at the Palace Theatre (opposite the Thyme Out) and wanted somewhere convenient for a meal before. We popped in on the off-chance without a booking and were pleased that we did. There is a 3 course menu (we had a starter and main) that is simple but a good choice. We both had the salmon main which was very good. Service is done with show times in mind so that there is plenty of time to pop across the road without rushing. Would definitely go again when visiting the Palace Theatre.

Booked Christmas Day lunch. Felt disappointed considering we paid £85 per head. The tables were only covered in thin paper serviettes which, once wet with the waitress spilling some of my husbands wine remained soggy. The man playing the keyboard loudly made conversation difficult and service was a bit slow but ,considering the number of guests ,the staff seemed to be working hard. My 3 fish roast and roast fennel were served in individual very hot dishes on the main plate leaving no space for the shared vegetables. I had to quickly tip them onto the main plate to avoid burning my fingers. They should have been arranged on the main plate before leaving the kitchen. For the high price paid I expected more finesse. A bit disappointed after anticipating a special lunch.

Just had a regular breakfast. 9.99 single or two people £16 good value if there are two of you. Nice sausage and mushrooms, nice granary bread. Everything else ok. However was spoilt by the egg being so unnecessarily overcooked with hard yoke and sellotape bottom it spoilt my experience... And why rock hard frozen packets of butter so you cant spread it on the toast? So my honest feedback. Please look at things from a customer experience perspective and not speed of cooking and ease of serving. I've been in the past and it was much better. Don't think I'll rush back.
