The location is great, the design not too bad and the staff are nice enough. The food is pretty awful however. The vegan sausage rolls are nothing more than Paxo sage and onion stuffing wrapped in pastry and served cold, without the slightest bit of love. The bought-in cakes are OK. What is unforgiveable is the use of nylon teabags which will still be on this planet long after this business has gone to the wall. There's far better choices on North Street in my opinion.

Sadly I won’t be coming here again, I am gluten free and the choice of food is so limited, it’s as though I can only eat fries and squash! Other places do a much wider choice of food for me. Please tell your chef there is such a thing as gluten free food, bread, pasta, risotto, burgers, curries, chillies, lovely cakes, they are not difficult to prepare, you are falling woefully behind other places and shouldn’t get complacent.

Went to meet friends at the Tobacco factory. When we arrived it wasn't too busy, staff were standing unoccupied behind the bar. Still, it took a long time before the coffees were served. They were luke-warm. I asked for mine to be reheated, it still wasn't hot when it eventually reappeared. Then the café space turned into a children's play ground . About 10-12 toddles arrived together with their mothers. Great, if you like to be in a nursery not so great if you are not fond of children. I gather the presence of small screechy children is well accepted in this place and a regular occurance.

Terrible servicio. No volverá.

I was very disappointed with the service at the tobacco factory. My boyfriend and I went in this evening to listen to the live jazz, but were turned away when ordering a hot chocolate as my boyfriend did not have his ID on him, despite us both being over 18 because they can’t serve minors after 9pm, despite the time being 8.45pm when we ordered. We then had to walk back in the torrential rain to pick up my boyfriend’s ID, only to return for hot chocolates which were overpriced and tasted of boiled milk. We also missed the live Jazz as they were on an interval when we returned and it took minutes to drink the pitifully small hot chocolates. Furthermore, there were underaged teenagers at the venue after 9, who we recognised, which were not kicked out, which leads us to believe that we were held against a different standard to everyone else. The server looked incredibly smug and made snide remarks to his colleagues. I would not recommend going to this pretentious venue as our evening was ruined and we now have to dry out our sodden clothes.

STAFF ARE SO RUDE - AVOID IF LOOKING FOR A WARM WELCOME! I live locally to The Tabacco Factory Bar/Cafe, North St, Southville, Bristol (just so this review is not written off as for 'the wrong place') and have done for 30+yrs. I have consistently received bad, curt, rude and at times out right hostile service at this place over the past 10years. Due to this I have actively avoided going there as it always gave me a negative vibe and left me feeling angry. I remember this place opening and the service used to be great but the last decade has seen the staff become more and more disinterested, aloof and where even eye contact is an impossibility. After having stayed away for ages I reasoned this must have changed and decided to try it again today, only to find exactly the same behaviours from the bar staff and left once again feeling annoyed. North St now boasts a number of bars and eateries who's staff are warm friendly and engaging and makes the stark contrast with The Tabacco Factory all the more jarring. Mr Furguson please check your staff are OK, suitable for hospitality or re-train your staff! They really are letting your business down

If you want a happy evening I'd strongly advise you NOT to eat here before a show. It was my friends birthday, we had over an hour before the show started, we ordered food and were told it would be half an hour. We explained we were going to the show, would it definitely be ready in time? "Yes" we were assured it would. After 45 minutes we were worried and went to the bar to check and were told "Your food will be another 15 minutes" which would make a total of an hours wait, if their 15 minutes was only 15 minutes and not longer. It was supposed to be a 60th birthday celebration. Food is what they do. Every day. Time scales can be worked out. The inability to quantify wait times on food by a restaurant is highly incompetent. We were most clear about the show start time. They knew. There's a lot of difference between 30 minutes and 60 minutes. If they'd said it would be over an hour we would have gone elsewhere. Instead, they ruined our evening. We had ordered food that came with a drink and, as we had drunk the drink we were only refunded the food money. The manageress repeatedly refused to waive the cost of the two drinks as a token of apology for spoiling our evening. I didn't get a proper explanation of why this long delay had happened. Nor did the staff member who knew we were waiting for food before the show think about letting us know that we weren't going to get it on time. An apology is acceptable if it was an unforseen circumstance or an unusual occurance but I was fobbed off and believe this was a regular occurance for them on busy show nights and it is just what they do to people. If there was a new chef, or a new staff member, a reason, any reason given, I'd have listened, or some assurance that this wouldn't happen again and that they might learn from it but no, no reason given. No future assurances. We had to run up the road and get a bag of crisps from a shop because we were really hungry and the show was about to start. We met two other groups of people at the show who had had the same experience. All people want is an honest wait time. That's not a big ask. Staff should be aware of food order numbers and current wait times, this awareness is standard practice in the food industry, I dont know why they got it so badly wrong. They'd have lost the drink sales if we knew the food was going to be over an hour, I hope that wasn't the reason they took our money. I won't go back, which is a pity as I quite liked the place up to the point of it all going sour. They ruined a special night.

We do like the Tobacco Factory as it is a great place to meet and we have been very regular customers for over 15 years. However, on the last few occasions the attitude of the staff has been in some cases bordering on rude / ignorant, and customer service has gone out the window. On two occasions we had to chase our coffee order. Several people served up to 15 minutes after us in the queue for coffees being served before us! Also there seems to be a can’t be bothered attitude with no please or thank you. We were lucky to get a grunt of what we ordered as they put the order on the table. There also seems to be allot of chatting between a couple of staff standing around doing nothing before they process orders. This is probably due to some new younger member of staff being hung over or having no pride in their work and just want a laid back easy day but it is really putting us off! Please provide some additional training to tweak an otherwise amazing place and hub of the community! Thanks in advance! PS your cinnamon swirls are excellent and staff after 5pm are very friendly and polite so no complaints there, it’s usually the morning shift.

We had a meal for 16 people on Friday 15th December at the Tobacco Factory and it was brilliant! The service (especially from Abi) was impeccable. I had provided a list of who was coming and what their food choices were a week beforehand as requested, and even though we had some last minute changes, Abi was really accommodating. The food came out promptly and accurately and they even knew who was having what so called the names out for each dish they brought over. Everyone enjoyed their food and had a great time! The only downside was that we didn't realise sauces cost extra, so lots of people at the table ordered sauces and there was a bit added to one of our bills at the end. It just would have been good to know at the time of ordering. Other than that small downside, it was brilliant! I can't thank Abi enough for her patience and professionalism. We will definitely be back, thank you Tobacco Factory!

It is strange when you ask the server for the bread to come with your soup they say that the scrap on the side of your plate is what George Ferguson considers a portion. Add to that the beer was short measured and you can see 'shrinkflation' in practice. It was a great spot that I had never been to before. It was a very trendy set (as my granny would say) All veggy and vegan food, which is a mega bonus for me. The food is great, really tasty and well presented. Arrived quickly as well, and as we ordered. One tiny niggle, well two actually. When you spend £26 for a starter (goats curd and tomatoes with a side of pitta bread, and the Tuesday pitta, chips and pint deal) why do you want to charge 50p for some mayo? It devalued our experience and makes the management seem greedy! Staff need to smile and be a bit more customer focused. You had ran out of the Kombucha on draft (£2.50) so I had a can of Vimto instead, no offer if the difference in value back, which I thought was a bit cheap. I was so disappointed at the menu at this restaurant, that was once quite creative and with a fairly varied menu. Now what was on offer was kinda trying to be creative, but failed somewhat ... and not cheaply either! On the plus side my granddaughter enjoyed her veggie bangers and mash and my daughter loved her pie and mash, while I liked the hallumi fries a lot. My other granddaughter, on the other hand chose the Celeriac schnitzel, because it was low carb, and she is Type 1 diabetic, and this was aone of the few things she could have that was low carb. Sadly it turned out to be tastless, as well as far too thick, and therefore as tough as old boots. It might have helped to steam or grill it first, to soften and flavour it, before breading it? As to my Farmhouse Vegetables.. meh! Chard leaves have pretty tough stems, and are huge... probably best cut off, and at least cut in half, so they're not so large? One idea would be to offer roasted mix veg (peppers, tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes etc.) as well as steamed, dressed greens ( broccoli, - tenderstem and Calabrese - stringless beans, spinach, chard - no stems! - etc.) But what do I know, I am only born and bred Italian and a Veggie for the past 50 years! <:D

Great drinks and a nice spot for the sunshine BUT the food is incredibly overpriced and disappointing. Pictured is a dish described as “sprouting broccoli “. There were 1.5 pieces of broccoli on the first dish we were given which simultaneously managed to be both raw and burnt. Given that we’d paid £8.50 we asked for a replacement or simply a few extra pieces of broccoli. The second picture is the second attempt which was even more limp and disappointing than the first. The beans, which were in fact the bulk of the dish, were bland and uninteresting. We sent them both back uneaten, despite really hating waste. The waitress was hugely apologetic and understanding but there is clearly a big problem in the kitchen here. It’s a shame as the food here used to be great. A South Bristol institution. It was, thanks to the vision of George Ferguson in buying the old tobacco factory building as a punt well before he was mayor, the catalyst for the regeneration of the whole area. It's still the hub of North St, and the place that first made me fall in love with Bristol. Some of the beer is brewed across the road, along with a huge and constantly changing range of guest beers and ciders, and the food is reliable and tasty. Bravely it's all local veggie and vegan, but don't let that put you off, it's really tasty and varied and the kitchen is often still open when others aren't - especially useful on a Monday night. Regular live music and cultural events, along with a farmers' market in the courtyard on the first Sunday of every month. There's a theatre in the same building which is also well worth checking out.

Pleasant enough cafe bar, but I'd like them to accept cash as well as cards. Cashless and QR cards remind me unpleasantly of Lockdown.

Very nice relaxed vibe in the Tobbacco Factory with a great selection of food and beer. Not the best service though.

It's a shame there was no meat option on the menu, opted for a portion of the garlic bread and a sweet potato fries. Recomend adding a locally sourced sausage roll or similar to satisfy the few meat eaters amongst us 👍

Really nice atmosphere, very popular in the evenings and at weekends. If planning on going for dinner then definitely worth reserving ahead of time. Hot chocolate was nice and good vegan marshmallows. Friendly staff and good facilities for tap water refills. Comfortable chairs and a range of different seating types to choose from. Books to read by the front door if you are there for a chill time. Definitely going to be spending more time here in future.

Was really impressed to start with, great range of beer and menu looked interesting. Very few GF options so asked if there was a separate menu? Answer, no. So it's soup or risotto. Come on folks it isn't that hard. So a return visit for 6 of us now won't happen, your loss.

Nice bustling but relaxed atmosphere. Had some small plates which were very tasty. Note that it's vegetarian for the carnivores among you. Very good beer with a good selection and not just the Bristol Beer Factory beers. If you prefer not to drink then Clearhead is on tap which I rate as one of the best low alcohol beers.

Not what it was. Real need to work on some of the staff, not friendly in their welcome, probably not enough. Children running about the place in busy times, not safe for them or people walking about, usual South Bristol parents swigging wine and ignoring them. Veggie food only, passed off at meat prices, (3.95 for fries) but with no comparison easy to get away with that. Good drinks selection, good location and big.

I love the atmosphere of the Tabacco Factory. They host great events, polite staff and quick service. I also enjoy that they display different artists work in mini exhibitions on the walls.

Went here for my 38th birthday with my Stepdad and Mum today. Everything (including the food and coffee) was great. However it got ruined by a dog vs dog fight right behind me when a dog got sadly bitten on the tail by another dog savagely. The dog who bit the dog's tail owner did absolutely nothing to get HER dog of the poor other dog. The other dog was yelping madly! Fair play to the other dog owner for trying to get the attacker off her poor dog (hope he or she is OK?) Shame on the woman whose dog attacked the other dog. You should be ashamed of yourself for not controlling your pet! It sort of ruined my birthday meal. Saw Jayde Adams at Tobacco Factory which made my day x

Sometimes great food, sometimes terrible! I think there must be inconsistencies in your staff? Been here on about a dozen occasions and ordered the same meals more than once - 50% of the time there will be generous portions and wonderfully cooked food, and 50% of the time the portions are child-sized and the food is burnt. Today was the final straw. Sadly, we're not coming for food again. Beer and wine is always good 👍

Hygiene questions prompted by the way the table was cleaned - a dirty looking cloth used to brush crumbs and stuff from the previous diners onto the floor. Food was poor. The soup of the day lacked seasoning and their was hardly a trace of leek or stilton. I didn't want to embarrass my hosts, but I should have sent it back. Of the seven of us, two thought their meal was 'alright' and five of us said we'd not order the dish again. At no point did any waiter asked how our food was. I don't blame them really. They probably know how poor it was.

Abi organized my party with 'no problem' to all my requests. On the day the room was arranged for my 'Do' with a great ambiance. The theatrical posters give colour and charm, background music, was sorted when my son asked for it. All went swimmingly. The water, as is said, was warm. The food was way beyond my expectations, very tasty vegetarian. Drinks were at the ready and the atmosphere relaxed and fun. The food was delivered at just the right times in a friendly manner. Nothing was too much trouble. There was food over so everyone took home a doggy bag.

Absolutely rubbish as a Jamaican this is the worst restaurant I have ever been to , zero flavour! curry goat more like vegetable soup with pieces of mutton , the brown stew chicken taste like horse meat . Send it back for a refund apparently there ‘no chef’ you are having heat up food that been there for day . Don’t waste your time or your stomach ! The staff was polite, only good thing

Paid 10 on Deliveroo for ONE piece of fried chicken. The curry goat is half of the normal portion. Daylight robbery! Ridiculous! This is the portion size of a £22 order! Never again!

I have eaten from here in the past and it has been good. Unfortunately, not enough care is taken to remove the bones from the chicken for the jerk wraps. The mishap resulted in a dental problem for me; a painful tooth from unassumingly biting into the wrap and hitting bone. I would probably have forgone leaving a negative review (things like this can happen) but it has been some weeks since the incident and I am still experiencing pain. Message for the owner: please take more care with the removal of bones.

Great cafe, friendly staff and cheap as chips! Also do a great Sunday roast with apple crumble and custard for £10!
