Wagamama in Newcastle upon Tyne

The best thing about Wagamama is the consistency. No matter which one you go to, the food is consistently good. Been a while since we have been and I was a bit disappointed that the chilli beef ramen had disappeared off the menu, replaced with a brisket affair. Chicken was overcooked in my ramen but the Tama Squid was superb.

Decidimos darle otra oportunidad a Wagamama después de una experiencia decepcionante en Edimburgo, pero desafortunadamente, esta visita fue aún peor. Éramos un grupo de cuatro y pedimos 4 platos principales, 4 bebidas y 2 entrantes. De inmediato, el servicio fue caótico. Dos principales llegaron primero —antes de los abridores— seguidos por un tercero principal unos cinco minutos después. El cuarto principal tardó más de 10 minutos en llegar, dejando a una persona sentada torpemente mientras el resto de nosotros comenzamos a comer. Servir comidas por separado para un grupo es completamente inaceptable, especialmente para un restaurante de cadena como Wagamama, donde el momento debe ser la práctica estándar. Para empeorar las cosas, pedimos dos platos de bistec soba, y la inconsistencia fue impactante. El primer filete estaba bien cocido, pero el segundo estaba prácticamente crudo e imposible de masticar. La camarera nunca preguntó cómo queríamos que se cocinaran los filetes, así que asumimos que serían consistentes. Cuando señalamos el problema, aceptaron rehacer el plato, pero lo que siguió empeoró mucho la situación. En lugar de asumir la responsabilidad u ofrecer una disculpa adecuada, ella nos echó la culpa a nosotros, haciéndonos sentir como si hubiéramos hecho algo malo simplemente esperando comida adecuadamente cocinada. Su comportamiento defensivo y poco profesional fue completamente inaceptable y nos dejó sintiéndonos incómodos por el resto de la noche. Cuando hablamos de esto con el gerente, no obtuvimos más que un breve “lo siento por eso” antes de que se fuera. No hay disculpas reales, no hay intento de compensar el mal servicio, solo indiferencia. Para colmo, pudimos sentir al personal susurrando sobre nosotros y dándonos miradas laterales durante el resto de la comida, lo que solo hizo la experiencia más desagradable. Como un grupo de cuatro estudiantes, todos con experiencia trabajando en restaurantes, estábamos horrorizados por la falta de profesionalismo y los estándares básicos de servicio. Entre la calidad inconsistente de la comida, los tiempos de servicio escalonados y la actitud de confrontación de la camarera, esta fue una de las peores experiencias gastronómicas que hemos tenido. Wagamama, en serio necesitas capacitar mejor a tu personal y mejorar tus estándares de servicio. Nunca volveremos, y ciertamente no podemos recomendar este lugar a cualquiera que busque una comida decente o un ambiente acogedor.

We came from Edinburgh this evening, being absolutely starving, heard plenty of good things about this restaurant network, but both visits where awfully disappointing. Food is not served as advertised, the staff is rude on both Newcastle and Edinburgh locations. Furthermore, our waitress while not specifying the way that steaks are cooked has brought 2 differently cooked meals, and upon request to remake the dish well-done, we faced an argumentative behaviour that wasn’t necessary, since only thing we wanted was dish to be replaced.

Great food and awesome service. Theo was quick, super attentive, warm and welcoming. He really went the extra mile for us. Thank you!

Ellie era nuestro servidor y ella era encantadora al igual que el resto del personal. Tuvimos una comida encantadora y volveremos de nuevo cuando estemos en Newcastle. Estuvimos allí hace 10 años y ahora es tan bueno como entonces.

White people ramen. Pork belly itself was good, but the rest was very mid. The noodles aren't even ramen noodles, they're like rice vermicelli. And they really push $ tipping here, odd for the UK.

I do love a bit of Wagamamas!! So flipping fresh and tasty 😋 Decided to try their Coconut Kare - "tender vegan chicken" version. The curry itself was absolutely delicious - the slightly spicy, tangy sauce came with broccoli, butternut squash & green beans. Not to be faulted. **BUT** the "tender vegan chicken"? FOUL!! (Pun intended!) Damn, Wagas, that stuff you're using is utterly disgusting!!! Either offer it with tofu, or use the brand "This Isn't". Their chicken is GOOD. Cos they got this stuff RIGHT. Otherwise, everything else was supremely tasty - Bang Bang Cauliflower, Wok Fried Greens, & my partner's chicken Raisukaree 🤌👌

Fantastic Wagamama restaurant! Came here for the first time ever the other week (my first time in a Wagamama) and loved it, so have visited a couple times over the past couple weeks! The Eldon Square branch is just awesome - really friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, and close by lots of shops and the bus stop too! The food is delicious! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for some tasty ramen!!! 😋

100 / 5 ! ! ! Mi compañero tiene un terrible dolor de muelas, no podía comer alimentos sólidos y estaba luchando por encontrar algo que pudiera tener en el menú, aparte de la sopa de miso. Nuestro servidor Bex habló con el chef (Prenele) y juntos se las arreglaron para llegar a uno - fuera de tazón de fideos mezclados para que mi pareja y yo todavía podíamos tener nuestro almuerzo juntos, ella realmente fue más allá y más allá para asegurarse de que pudiéramos encontrar una solución adecuada para que mi pareja pudiera tener una comida llena, cocinada con alma, y fue absolutamente perfecto. Muchas gracias Bex & Prenele por hacer un esfuerzo adicional y ayudar a mi pareja a elegir un plato sabroso sin compromiso! Realmente apreciamos esto.

Went to Wagamama for dinner, food was great, but the service was so slow. We were sat and waited to order, then after 15-20mins we were told we may have to wait longer as the ordering system was down, couldnt order drinks. Eventually got to order and by the time the food came we had sat 40mins. Hopefully change for next time.

Always a go to when in Newcastle. Lovely food and Sree is absolutely lovely, always makes us feel welcome and friendly service. Good vegan options

First time eating at the Asian-Inspired Wagamamas in Newcastle and found the staff to be even sweeter than the Matcha-Strawberry Latte (in all the right ways). I was surprised to learn it was Jose's second shift. She was an absolute delight and whoever gave the go ahead for their hiring can tell a good soul when they see one. Canny little spot.

A group of my family dined recently, including my 6 year old grandson. He had a small bag of sweets which we placed on the table, only to be told by a waitress that we were not allowed to have them on the table....absolutely ridiculous ....the restaurant was rather empty, perhaps a result of a silly attitude by staff?

Hemos visitado este Wagamama un par de veces, sin embargo, este tiempo fue el mejor por mucho... Nos recibieron al instante y nos sentamos con una bonita vista. ¡Nuestra camarera Kate fue fabulosa! Ella era muy atenta y nos hizo reír - mucho! Sin duda volveríamos con la esperanza de experimentar este servicio de nuevo. Mi compañero y yo pedimos pollo raisukaree (podría haber escrito mal) y un buruso Kare - con algunas gyozas de pato en el lado. Mis socios pollo raisukaree estaba reventado de sabores el arroz se hizo a la perfección. Mi buruso Kare era absolutamente delicioso con grandes niveles de especias. Una vez que nos fuimos nos dieron las gracias amablemente que hizo un buen final a la noche No podía volver. Ya estoy planeando mi próxima visita. Cruzar los dedos es tan increíble como este.

Hoy fuimos a Wagamama con mi pareja a cenar. Tan pronto como entramos en el restaurante nos dieron la bienvenida al instante y nos mostraron a nuestra mesa. Conseguí la soba de bistec teriyaki, y mi compañero pidió el curry de coco. La comida era deliciosa y nuestro servidor Josh era muy atento y en general encantador. Sin duda volveremos pronto!

Its the laat time we went there , my partner order tan tan ramen , it was like half bowl and had a little topicing on that , i had mashroom yakisoba , it was dried and some parts on noodle burnt , it was like they made that food 4h ago and warm it up for me , we tried wagamama many times before , but this was totally different, actually we didn’t like the waitress behavior as well , despite the fact food was horrible, no one check about the quality of food and they just asked for tip , even the tax is separately was added on bill ,

Amazing food. Absalutley mint. Staff were perfect and very welcoming. Made sure they were apparent and ready to help but didn't linger around. Just really lovely place

Great food and atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful. It is a laid back dining experience as food sometimes comes at different times and it’s bench seating kind of school cafeteria style rather than separate tables so maybe not everyone’s cup of tea but I love it!

We love to be able to go for lunch in Newcastle Wagamama is one of our favorites. We enjoy the food and service. Ethan looked after us fantastically a true asset to the restaurant. Cheers young man 5/5

I had the kaysu chicken curry tasted OK presentation terrible. My partner had had the pad Thai chicken said it tasted great but again presentation was poor 😢

We visited branch tonight for freinda catch up,ordered new dish as recomended by server jaqie fish coconat kare both of us,and chili squid. And it was lovely tastu dish ,we would try chicken coconat kare ne t time! Service was great attentive and thank you our server jaqie she had good knowledge of dishes,we will visit again soon.

The food is always delicious and made with quality ingredients, the drinks are also spectacular, the blended juices being my favourite thing to order.

Fantastic place to grab food with friends. We had all the starters. I loved the mushrooms, edamame with chilli, veg gyoza and cauluflower. It was a cold day so I got a couple of green teas as well as a katsu curry. We had a great time and the food is alwaus consistently good. Everyone in our group was happy.

Excellent lunch at Wagamama’s Newcastle. Food tasty , not over spiced. Difficult to choose as whole menu looked inviting. Staff were very helpful and courteous despite the restaurant being very busy . GM Jen was very visible on the floor and friendly to customers. Looking forward to my next visit.

Came here for an anniversary meal with my partner, was really looking forward to dining together. However, our meals came 15 minutes apart. We wanted to dine together, not separately! My food was stone cold by the time his came. They also provided no forks with the meal. Extremely disappointed.

One dish came out 15 minutes before the other, the first dish was cold by the time the second arrived. No explanation or apology

Brilliant place to come to. Our food was out within 5 minutes and the food was tasty, fresh and served hot. The atmosphere was great and the decor was amazing with a great selection of drinks

Had dinner yesterday with my husband as it's been a while since we had some ramen, and as usual, it did not disappoint! The wait was not long. We had to queue outside before coming in, and with 2 parties ahead of us, I would say it took roughly 5 mins before we were ushered into our table inside. While in the queue we were also asked if we had any allergies, and I find this quite helpful because my nephew who has allergies likes this place too. Once seated, it wasn't long before we had wait staff to get our orders. Ordering was straightforward and the food came out in a timely manner. We had to wait a little longer for one of our orders, but more than made up for it when we had a taste. We both had the Korean BBQ Beef bun and the Tama Squid (amazing!) and our usual fix of Shirodashi Ramen. Food was good as always! It was a little bit busy as it was a Saturday evening, but our male server was quite attentive and nice. My husband had to ask one of the servers if she could kindly bring us some water - which we never got. Although I was a little annoyed at this, I did consider how busy they were, and just shrugged it off. Otherwise, good experience!

I think this restaurant should source only sustainable wild caught fish. It currently serves farmed salmon which is harming our seas and marine life and pillaging essential fish stocks from other countries.

It's sad to see this place lose what it once had. The staff really let it down including management. Spoken to 3 members of staff who gave 4 different excuses why a very simple request could not be fulfilled. I've came to the conclusion they simply have 0 sense of customer care and much prefer laughing and joking about it, as was apparent in the last few seconds of our phone call. Really disgusting, for the price it's a shame they employ people that bring down their good name. It's not like it's just 1 or 2 bad eggs, it's a toxic culture overall. The sheer amount of contradictions and pathological lies these people spit out is embarassing. The food is also very poor now, no real chef's, bit of a funny stomach after eating. Steer well clear.

We were in Newcastle for the Strictly show! When we spotted Wagamama, both of us agreed to go there. Our server, David, was very helpful when I asked his advice on what to eat based on our preferences. I asked the manager, Jac, to show me how to use the chopsticks, and she patiently answered all my questions about the dishes. The food was delicious, the portions were generous - loved the pink pickle (mooli) served with my food. I chose the Katsu Curry and my son had the Chicken Yaki Soba - both not disappointed with our choices. Will certainly revisit next time we're in town!

Typical Wagamama. Good food and friendly staff although there was one geezer, possibly a supervisor, that worked there who kept staring at me. A bit odd, but I did look great that day so I’m not surprised.

This place is great and I have been coming in quite often for nearly 10 years. Yaki udon is my fave. Food tastes good and is served quickly. I will say though experience today was not great. For first time ever asked for gluten free menu because my bf thinks he may be intolerant. We did say it was only a preference and traces of gluten are fine and there's no need to clean pans especially for us etc. There was a bit of confusion when ordering and manager who served us came across as quite rude and short tempered and a bit hostile. Was made to feel like we are awkward arses and a bit of an inconvenience. This interaction did spoil the vibe of our meal fair bit unfortunately. This place offers Eldon square discount for staff which is great but to be honest didn't really want to ask for this at the end due to the awkward interaction earlier.

Reliably good food, short wait of 15 mins on a busy shopping day but worth it. Very friendly staff. Will return.

I am not a Wagamama fan. Went there to try the new addition Roti dish. Roti was not flaky (like the advert) and the curry was bad. Hot pot was nice. Great service and atmosphere, but unfortunately below average food.

The setting is kinda knew to me haven't seen that type of setting it's really big inside but disappointed with the food the special that a had wasn't propationed properly somthings where really chewy but the flavours where good its cozy and nice comfy they serve alcohol it's spaces

We had a lovely time as usual. Unfortunately they ran out of all desserts before we were able to order, and running out of items/ingredients is often an issue here, but don't let that put you off. The menu is wonderful and I was thrilled to now see tteokbokki on the menu. Partner and I can't wait to see what's on offer next time

My first time at Wagamama’s was amazing. Thanks to our server Kate! She was very warm and helpful making sure that we had everything. I would definitely come back again because the beef ramen was superb and full of flavours!. ( although I was a bit upset there was no green tea to try, the good out ways the bad )

To be fair we didn't get to sample the food or anything else on offer. Upon entry we were stuck on the stairs behind a couple. A male employee impatiently asked me "What's going on here?" to which I replied that we were hoping to be seated. Without any politeness or hospitality he promptly told us we'd have to wait outside. As it was a cold December afternoon, waiting outside was not going to happen so we did not, and will not, return.

My first time at Wagamama's and it certainly won't be my last. I ordered the hoisin pulled duck buns as a starter and the chicken + prawn yaki soba for a main with a pint of asahi to wash it down with. Over all great experience the staff were very helpful and friendly also.

Went with boyfriend for food, was bland and tasteless, had to add heaps of chilli oil to the ramen to actually taste anything. Food arrived before drinks approximately 10mins before. Both of our drinks were bottled… No one check back to see how the food was. However, there was staff everywhere. We finished our drinks was sat there for ages trying to get servers attention to get another drink. He goes to every other tables around us, despite trying to get theirs attention multiple times. Then when we did eventually order our drinks, we waited another 15mins for them at which we were told they were not out through. During this time multiple server were coming up to us asking if we want the bill… we were still waiting on the drinks. (Can waiter not communicate with one another?!) Waited almost half and hour for two drinks. One of which they didn’t have. When we went to pay the bill, we were surprised to see that they had added desserts onto our bill, which we neither asked for nor received and had to escalate this to a manger.

Firstly, it took a long time to get served initially. I have dietary requirements which meant we had to wait for a manager so took even longer. I could not believe how rude the manager was because of my dietary requirements. literally said so aggressively ‘what do you want’. My friend saw him making faces at my responses, we both work in hospitality so understand when it’s busy and you’re rushed off your feet but seriously? Every time I’d try to get a servers attention I’d get ignored, asked for a desert menu that never came. And to top it off we were sat behind a ‘celebrity’ who got treated amazingly by the manager. I know you guys were understaffed so I feel bad as Emily our main server was lovely.

First time at this chain, lovely staff and great food. They did warn that the meals would be ready at different times, I was waiting for mine while my partner had finished theirs, which is not a huge deal but not ideal as well so there you go.

Sooo yummy, went with 2 friends & waited outside for ~10 mins before we could go in. We got a really cutesy table at the back corner & could see the whole restaurant which was nice!😁 Staff were lovely & efficient & food arrived quickly. I had miso soup & the vegatsu. So good!!^_^ i wanna go back

Hadn’t been for a good while so thought we would revisit whilst in town. Normally have odon noodles but this time tried firecracker chicken curry. Absolutely astonishing! Mix of flavours was superb and it certainly had a kick (which can be increased on request). As usual service was cheery and prompt. In fairness it wasn’t price prohibitive either. All round good experience. Oh and by the way, the duck bao buns were very moreish.

Great food, such a shame this was spoilt by lackluster service. Staff were more interested in cleaning and getting ready to close with more than 2 hours left of evening service. I had to chase up drinks as none had arrived by the time the food was delivered , ask for dessert menu, then chase up to order. Not wanting to be kept waiting any longer I went to the front desk to pay my bill. No tips earned from me.

First off service wasn’t great but that’s not really the problem cos we all hate service jobs. The food was DREADFUL. It’s cheap crap masquerading as real authentic ramen. The broth wasn’t even hot. The noodles were stodgy pot noodles congealed together. The meat was dry and flavourless and there was hardly any to begin with. Especially with the mountain of cheap noodles the use as filler. The egg was honestly revolting and butchered with a serrated butter knife. I couldn’t believe I was served that and charged £16. I had good ramen today at nudo for half the price and it was actually good. DO NOT EAT HERE.
