Wagon & Horses in Lancaster

The Wagon and Horses is a fantastic place for a cosy dinner and a few drinks. With a relaxed and warm vibe inside the restaurant, you can also enjoy a few casual drinks and a few games of pool by the bar. We visited for a meal with family during the Christmas period and dined from the festive menu which was excellent. The food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. We were served by Gio who I have to say is a credit to the team, he was very attentive, making sure everything was okay for us. Alongside this he was extremely polite and gave some great food recommendations. We will definitely be returning to see Gio in the future.

This is our second time for Sunday lunch, they have a choice of meats with traditional trimmings, good quality food and friendly service Highly recommend 5 star meal

Stayed here on a girls weekend break. Great value for money on a bed and breakfast basis. Staff were lovely, really looked after us. The pub is warm and welcoming. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee in room with homemade biscuits. Powerful and hot shower. Breakfast was very good, plenty of options. Great place to stay to discover Lancaster.

Absolutely the best Sunday roast we’ve ever had. Lovely fresh ingredients beautifully presented. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed and the staff are friendly and helpful. The desserts were also amazing, best chocolate mousse ever

We kind of stumbled across Wagon and Horses quite by chance; in our opinion, it’s not the easiest place to find. BUT…we are soooo glad we did. The thing we immediately liked was the cozy interior followed by the lovely welcoming staff. The place has a real nice feeling about it.its a cross between a pub and a restaurant. The decor is lovely (and the loos spotless, and that’s important as it says a lot about a place). I mentioned the staff are welcoming. They are attentive and interested in you. And I don’t believe it’s put on. They genuinely want to offer excellent customer service, and they achieve this. The food was excellent (excellent). My wife is a bit of a lasagne connoisseur and she scored it a 10/10, so that’s says a lot. I had a tomahawk steak with creamy mash and a gorgeous apple sauce and I scored it a 12/10!! 😂 No, the Wagon and horses is really lovely so I encourage you to check it out. We’re looking to forward to going back very soon.

Stopped here on the 18th, arrived very late at night and staff had been very accommodating to this when I'd collected my keys earlier, as there's a side door you can use when the pub is closed. Room was small but not cramped, great water pressure in the shower! Sadly didn't get to try the food this time but I think we will be stopping again soon so hopefully will get the chance next time. Lovely location with a beautiful view but couldn't get close enough via bus so had to use the local taxi service, but not hard to find

Had dinner here last night 6 people in total. Not busy but the welcome was genuine. I shared an arancini starter with Hubby and had the stone bass for main. Other choices were the seafood ravioli and fish and chips. Portions are quite big . This place deserves to do well as we just don’t have many restaurants lie this in Lancaster as the majority cater for students with cheap fast food. I wrote a bad review of the Wagon a few years ago and can confirm that the current owners/tenants are now doing all the right things. The service was excellent.

Nipped in for dinner nice food well presented

This pub was chosen for its close vicinity of the main shopping area and the castle, although it was quiet and overlooked the River Lune. It was recommended to me by family who live locally. I stayed in their B&B accommodation which was very well equipped and spotlessly clean and modern. My room had an en suite with a shower. The bedroom had plenty of pillows, towels, wardrobe room as well as a television and free wi fi throughout. The double bed was very comfortable and the good full length black out curtains ensured a good nights sleep. There was plenty of tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Included in the price (of £60 per night) was breakfast which included a full continental buffet as well as a freshly cooked full English. Without exception, all the staff were very helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble. The whole establishment is very well run in my opinion. The pub served a very good range of alcoholic drinks as well as a comprehensive menu for the evening meal although I didn't use it. I will certainly be using it again and it is highly recommended.

We were just looking for some convenient place to eat some pub grub and found this gem of a place. Now under new management. The seafood linguini was excellent,if not a trifle messy. Two massive king prawns needed peeling,but finger bowls were provided!. Need to come back to sample the rest of the menu. Wednesday night steak night looks a good deal.

Stopped in for breakfast today, my first time eating at the Wagon although I come in just for drinks quite regularly. The food was amazing, as was the service courtesy of Dianne!

Took ages for order to be taken. Antipasta starter too large. Did not come with bread advertised. Squid rings not crispy as stated. Lasagne burnt on top. Tried to cover with large helping of cheeses sauce. Complained and second portion smaller with NO cheese sauce?? Ravioli filled with cheese. Not mentioned on menu. Stated to be crab and ravioli. Prawns in sauce. No sign of crab anywhere. Lemon tart portion miniscule.. Sticky toffee also burnt on top. Largest blunder definitely the fact that during starters waitress came to table and said mains ready and should she bring to table so were delivered fresh. No consideration that people then eating started with mains on table aswell. Absolutely unacceptable behaviour. Shame because few improvements could have made this experience much more enjoyable.

A lovely pub set on the river bank down. Great location, friendly staff and good food and drink. Plenty of seating and ideal for a family meal.

Great pub with plenty of space, decent beers and wines and the food is top notch. The staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. Close enough to the city centre to be on your night out rounds.

Food and beer were awesome. Good variety of options including catering for gluten free. The room was small but of good quality and clean. Breakfast was simple but plentiful - the icing on the cake! The pub is a short walk from the town centre. Parking outside could be troublesome, but we found a spot about 5 mins walk along the road outside the student accommodation.

Over rated only got a 1 star because the waiting on staff were spot on the manageress was rude and nasty food wasn't great and overpriced won't be back

We called in here for lunch. The menu is mainly based on Italian favourites. We enjoyed a plentiful and very good value starter of all sorts of antipasti favourites withsome delicious bread. To be fair this could easy do two for a lunch but we pushed on. Hubby had a beef and porcini pie which he loved. I had the mussels which came with a spicy sausage and again some delicious crusty bread which was used to mop up the remaining sauce. The pub has a nice setting near the river and a historic site.

I was in town for a couple of days for a conference. Although I arrived before the check-in time, I was welcomed with a smile and a very warm spirit as soon as I walked in. I was able to leave my bag and go about my day until I returned later to a very tidy and neat room with a nice view. The next morning, the breakfast was so satisfying that it kept me going all day. Throughout my stay, the staff were always friendly and nice. I will be very happy to stay there again.

What a lovely find. The food (steak & porcini pie) was absolutely delicious and in my top 5 best pie 🥧. Lots of meat and loads of flavour. Our room was very quiet, clean with a good bed 🛌 and we had a good night’s sleep. Shower was great with the power of water nice and hot. Breakfast 🍳 was great and lots of choice. Would I stay again? DEFINITELY 💯

Although only a limited menu, food received was very good value. Will certainly return.

Just got back from our little night away all I have to say is amazing Firstly the staff they can't do enough for you so helpful so friendly and welcoming they helped my husband plan a surprise for me a beautiful arrangement of flowers in our room when we got there for our anniversary The food is outstanding we had an evening meal and breakfast so much choice for breakfast and the don't rush you Our room was very comfortable it had everything we needed tea coffee water biscuits the cleanliness of the whole place is outstanding Our stay was extremely enjoyable even more so by the staff that work here we will definitely be back for another stay Once again thank you so much

Had a meal at the wagon and horses. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Food was amazing! The chicken kebab is huge and tastes delicious. The pub decor is modern and elegant. The background music provided a lovely atmosphere. A short walk from the main city centre but 100% worth it. We will definitely be going back.

Following the path down after visiting The Roman Bath House and Wery Wall Remains, we came to the river Lune and nipped in for a drink before we carried on

A lovely little pub with a great feel to it. The little beer courtyard at the back is a really nice space of an evening.

The location is very convenient and close to the city centre but tucked away and quiet, and it was nice waking up to a view of the river. We had to leave before breakfast and the staff member we checked out with insisted we have some toast, cereal fruit and coffee. She was so kind and friendly and quickly popped the coffee on which was much appreciated Only reason for overall 4 star is room was quite small.

We had a big meal out ( next door!) later at 7 so wanted something light. The pub seemed quiet but it was early so we just shared one portion of the beer battered fish and chips. It was very tasty and the lady serving was great and brought an extra plate.

We held a surprise family meal here for our sons 21st. Stuart was great help all week and on the night. All the staff were. Food was lovely, and good value. Can’t thanks them enough.

Breakfast had loads of options too and the lady who was on breakfast duty was even friendlier than all of the other really friendly staff I had encountered. Definitely recommend.

We stayed here for a wedding as a party of 6 in 3 rooms (no kids). Staff were amazingly accommodating - they had a room ready for us before we could officially check in so we had somewhere to get ready for the wedding. The cooked breakfast is arguably one of the best I've ever had - those sausages best be award winning! Would definitely recommend & if we visit lovely Lancaster again, we'd definitely check for availability here first. Thank you everyone at the Wagon & Horses making our trip that much more special. The room was comfortable with a nice view across the River. Plenty of tea and coffee available in the room too. The staff were very accommodating as regards breakfast on my first morning there. I was able to have a light breakfast before the usual time of full breakfast service. Didn’t use the bar or have an evening meal there but the area was comfortable.

We've been here quite a few times over the last couple of years, the food is always great & staff are attentive and polite. Look forward to our next visit. Keep up the great work.

Couples Sunday lunch. Great pub. Live music lovely Sunday roast. The mrs has chicken which was delicious. I had beef. Which I asked for pink. It came out grey dry n a bit past its best. We are at 2 pm. Maybe it has been sat on the heat. The Facebook pictures of the roast dinner that enticed us in were fairly accurate bar the awful beef. I know I should have sent it back. But I’m English so I just ate it. They could do with some sharper cutlery. It was a bit blunt. I’d go again but would serve the beef. If I want a beef dinner I’d go next door to qsf now

Very happy with our stay. The rooms and the bar itself are clean and well cared for. The breakfasts are enormous and there are options for all tastes. The staff are lovely and we will certainly stay again. We were well fed and had great nights sleep.

Perfect location for a weekend away in Lancaster. Excellent value for money.

An unscheduled stop in Lancaster as a result of a storm affecting the railways, and I happened across this place via Booking.com. I was warmly welcomed and shown to my room. The room was well appointed with a very comfortable bed - decent bathroom and a wonderfully hot and powerful shower. I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel with such good quantities of tea / coffee / milk and biscuits! Downstairs, I found the very popular public bar with a great pint ( Dizzy Blonde). There was an extensive menu and the food was lovely. There seemed to be plenty of non-residents eating which is always a good sign! After a comfortable nights sleep I went down for breakfast which was lovely. Plentiful in quantity, choice and cooked beautifully. The staff are warm, friendly and welcoming and I'd have absolutely no problem recommending this place to anyone.

Clean rooms with good facilities but could do with a USB for phone charging. Pub has a welcoming atmosphere and occasional entertainment. 10 of us ate here & every one of us loved our food! The Sunday roast was amazing, the curry, the fish & chips & desserts all delicious. Lovely reasonably priced cocktails too. Friendly staff & service good. Only thing I’d change is make it table service & charge service charge. Bit of a pain up & down to bar to order food & drinks etc especially in a large crowd, wouldn’t stop me going here but would def improve it for me.

Had a band on the night we went, which was really good and the staff were lovely.

Food was excellent. The bar staff were friendly. Highly recommended as a venue for a meal. We went on a non event night and the ambience was lovely, not rowdy and noisy, very relaxing and conducive for chatting.

My son and I made an overnight stop at Wagon and Horses. It was very comfortable, had a very helpful staff and provided a delicious breakfast. The interior was also extremely pretty, decorated with lots of fairy lights which gave it a particularly welcoming feel. We will certainly stay there again if we visit Lancaster in the future.

We stayed at The Wagon and Horses for two nights and found it delightful. The staff were deligted to help in any way they could. The room was very comfortable and clean. We asked for a walk in shower if possible and ended up with a wet room. The meals were excellent and so was value for money. We will certainly stay there again when we return to Lancaster.

We've always loved the cosy ambiance in this pub & visited with friends who had never been before. Although we had only intended to call for drinks we stayed for lunch, which was excellent. The only disappointment was the charge of £4.50 for a small bottle of 'no alcohol' lager - the cost of a pint of beer. Always assumed 0% alcohol beers were untaxed, which makes the price seem exorbitant. Next time I'll make sure I'm not driving!

We had dinner on Mother’s Day for 9 of us and the service and food was absolutely faultless. We enjoyed every minute and will be coming back. I recommend the Sunday lunch!

We were visiting my husbands family so decided to come here for food just the 2 of us. We ordered a drink at the bar and then asked about food. Young lad ask if we booked we hadnt he goes to speak to another lad. To then return and say were not taken anymore sittters. Which is fine if your fullu booked was this the case🤷‍♀️. All tables had reserve on them again fine but we sat oitside having are drink we were there for more than 1 hour upon leaving all tables still with reserve signs had absolutely no one sitting on them. Also a gentleman was getting served food at the bar. Very disappointing if your booked then my fault for not booking but why after over 1 hour was there still no one sitting at these tables and it was a good portion of the bar .

The Sunday lunch was excellent. Beautifully cooked meats, a brilliant selection of tasty veggies and a proper Yorkshire pudding. We ordered extra gravy as it as so good. It was a very generous portion but I was determined to finish it!!!
