Good overnight stop for sightseeing in the area. Excellent location on harbour front. Rooms behind the restaurant. We had a twin room on first floor. Very clean and had a full size bath with shower. We ate in the restaurant ( which we had pre booked ) lovely tasty food with plenty of choice and we also had breakfast. ( which was also very good ) We parked in the street but there was parking opposite ( pay and display )

Very average food. Kids ordered pizza from the kids menu and they’ve got a bread baguette cut in two with tomato and melted cheese on top. Not what I’d describe as pizza and they didn’t like it. Our food was ok but nothing special. Service was attentive

Fantastic hotel, in a beautiful setting right by the harbour. Rooms modern and comfortable, with lovely bathroom with bath and shower. The restaurant overlooks the harbour and has an excellent menu, which was very reasonably priced. The food was really tasty, of high quality and presented well. The breakfast menu had lots of choice and was included in the room rate. All of the staff were efficient and really friendly. This is a gem of a hotel and we will definitely return. Had lunch here with a group of friends after looking at Tripadvisor reviews on a number of restaurants in the area. The reviews were very good and no surprise because the restaurant was lovely, as were the staff. The menu is varied with lots of choices for both main courses and desserts - perhaps not so much that we would choose in the starters but that’s just personal choice. The food was piping hot, really tasty and plentiful. The prices were also more reasonable than most of the places we looked at despite the high quality offered. Would definitely recommend.

Just left the restaurant. We have eaten there many times when we are in staying Anstruther and always been very happy. Not this time however. My husband had the fish and chips, well what you can call fish as there was very little of it. The peas were cold. My meal was the ciabatta which wasn’t to good either as the salad was unpleasant. The girls were absolutely smashing and brought my husband another very small portion of fish, but need to get rid of the chef as not doing a very good job. Shame on him. Very unlikely to go back which is sad as we’ve always enjoyed it.

Genuinely, the best service at any restaurant in the past year or more. Sat down outside, which is often a gamble for good service, but the staff were excellent, recognising our two very hungry wee ones. Kids meals fairly priced, and very good portions. Also had a couple of main dishes from the quick bites menu, and everything was hot, fresh, and very tasty. Would give 5 ⭐ plus for the service alone. Why can't more eateries be like this, rather than the usual age long wait for mediocre overpriced garbage? The pavement outside is on a slant, so the tables and chairs are too, but we honestly didn't mind sitting in the rare Scottish summer sun for a great meal. Best wishes to the whole team at The Waterfront, as they have a winning recipe for happy customers.

Takeaway of Fish & Chips on the Waterfront were cleaning up but Josh must have seen how hungry we were and if it was just chips we'd be wanting then he could put a portion in to fry for us. We waited and chatted to him and in no time the chips were ready. Absolutely delish and ended up getting a portion each rather than one to share. The walk back to our AirBB in heaven munching the salty and vinegar chips. Made our night. Thanks very much Josh. xx

Ate lunch here 2 weeks ago. We both ordered the "chick pea curry with wild rice" and were totally disappointed. It was flavourless chick peas in your standard tomato sauce, with not even a hint of curry flavour or any other spice. The rice was regular white rice with the addition of turmeric to add some colour. Perhaps this was the kitchen's interpretation of "wild"? The meal did not live up to it's description on the menu.

After a wee staycation in Anstruther we had to leave our rental property by 9.00 am so decided to look for a local restaurant or bar serving breakfast. With Covid-19 restrictions, some places were only serving breakfast to guests staying in their hotel or inn.The Waterfront Restaurant is right on Shore Street and has a menu offering a range of breakfast options from the Full Scottish to a range of lighter options including Toast & Jam, Filled Rolls, Eggs Benedict or Scrambled Eggs .Service was prompt from taking our order to our food arriving. We opted for the full scottish and food was well cooked and very tasty.Only criticism was that staff weren't wearing face coverings however other aspects of the Covid guidelines for the hospitality industry were observed (track and protect protocols were in place via a Qreader on each table and cleaning down tables when guests left was extremely thorough).Would definitely recommend a visit if you're looking for breakfast.

You cannot write a review about the waterfront at Anstruther without recognising that it has turned out lovely Dinning experiences over many years; however I think that era has passed. Starting off with insufficient WiFi to even register your details for social distancing and that is Government requirement, to a menu of meals that is now no different to the restaurants of Kirkcaldy or St Andrews to name but two. The artisans of the kitchen have obviously moved on and although cleanliness and presentation of the premises is still high, a clean table doesn't a good meal make. Furthermore I assume the Management just expect the tourists and other dinners to just turn up so why take part in the eat out to help out hospitality scheme. The Waterfront had the opportunity to give local workers the opportunity to have some Government subsidise food in a nice setting; having decided not to I wonder how the establishment will survive in the Winter when there are only local workers. Great in the past but average now.

We're pretty familiar with the Waterfront having eaten there several times over the years but our recent visit was very disappointing. All of our party eat out a fair amount in a wide range of establishments from the toastie shack at Kingsbarns to the tasting menu at Gleneagles. All five of us felt the meal at the Waterfront was not up to standard My starter of Prawn Cocktail used prawns that were hard and tasteless - absolutely unacceptable in a place where at least two local fishermen are delivering fresh. The dish had clearly been sitting in a chiller for ages removing any sense of flavour from the sauce. My sea bass had skin that instead of being crispy had barely been cooked and the soft slimy effect was unpleasant.I won't go through the rest of our choices but the unanimous reaction was the same - poor quality provision which all appeared with suspicious speed. We'll put it down to post-Covid rustiness and give it another go but they really need to watch the quality of their offering.

Delighted with my big breakfast on the (literally) Waterfront yesterday morning. It was a very sunny start to the day and ideal for sitting lazily outside to watch all the activity on the boats in the harbour opposite. Very simple stuff, just like my full Scottish which came with everything you might expect plus a lot more if you wanted it - I declined the eggs, mushrooms and haggis - but I was on my bike and didn’t want to overburden the tires too much. I think they sneaked an extra sausage on the plateful without me asking for it, and it was all cooked to perfection and served on a hot plate to keep it all warm enough, as if scoffing it all was going to take a while! It’s the small, simple things that matter with such a seemingly simple order but the difference is always made by the people involved. I noticed all the waitresses were very cheery with the customers as it began to get busy, and I have to single out Emily as the one who deserves most credit for adding an extra ray of sunshine to my breakfast experience! It doesn’t take much to get things just right, just like it didn’t me long to finish my meal, get back on my bike and away again. In the words of The Terminator, I’ll Be Back!

We visited here with family after a day in St Andrews looking for excellent fish and chips and were not disappointed. After a day of glorious sunshine and temperatures in the mid twenties, the restaurant was packed (within COVID-19 guidelines) but an outside table came free so we sat in the angle of the windows facing the harbour. Our waitress was pleasantly chatty. I ordered the Haggis Bon Bons for a starter, which were slightly most inside with crunchy breadcrumbs outside. Very tasty! Then followed for substantial portions of fish and chips (battered or breadcrumbs?), light and flaky with batter just crispy, and golden fries. A few more peas would have been nice, but otherwise an excellent supper to end a glorious day. No desserts as we needed to sample the local ice cream :-)

Arriving around sunset we chose to sit outside. Our waitress Paige was most helpful and assisted us with our food choice. We chose a chicken and haggis dish with a peppercorn sauce. The food was delicious and the service prompt.

Very decent place for dinner. Anstruther is not well served by restaurants due to its size but The Waterfront is a safe bet. Dinner was good but breakfast was excellent - best cooked breakfast I’ve ever had.

Food quality was incredible. We shared mussels as a starter, both the fish pie and smoked haddock & prawn mains were delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was a perfect end to a wonderful meal. We also had the most expensive bottle of white wine on the menu and the bill still came to only £62

Please avoid this restaurant at all costs unless you enjoy food poisoning. My family of 3 were the ONLY people in the restaurant for the entire dinner which is never a good sign. We ordered some coley fish with potato gratin. You know when you are eating something that is not quite right, it tasted off but we ate it and did not mention anything to the server. Of course within about 7-8 hours after leaving the restaurant my daughter was violently ill, vomiting with fever. I have since contacted the restaurant but this has been a complete waste of time, the manager was non responsive. There are plenty of good options in St Andrews, this is most definitely not one of them.

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.
